This is a great review and i didn't see it until after I ordered one yesterday! I'm really excited about it. It's my first sxs. I've always been an atv guy but I'm not getting any younger and I think this is the way to go.
Brian your reviews are always solid and thorough. You mention the little things that most UTV owners (or soon to be owners) are really wondering about the given machine. Not just the "features and benefits" but the practicality for the layman SxS owner. I watched your video on the RMAX4 at least 3-4 times before buying my RMAX4 XTR and it was a huge help. Keep up the good work!
@srovansek, thank you very much for your feedback. You’re spot on with what we try to deliver in every review. Not so much about the specs, you can easily look them up. It’s about real world use and how it’s going to be used along with the pros & cons. Thanks again and take care my friend!
I fell for it test driving it on black top. I'm 6'2" and the cockpit is just what I wanted. We have rode almost all of the hmt trails and it was time to step it up. It fits in our enclosed trailer, even better.
Great review! I've had my X2 1000 for almost 3 months now and I have to agree with everything you said. Except i prefer trail mode for my every day driving.
Thanks for your videos. After watching quite a few videos on all makes and models. I have purchased the Rmax1000. Nice to see videos from people that actually use the product. Thanks again.
Thanks Brian. Love the review. I will be in the market for a new side by side later this year. The Wolverine X2 1000 is top of my list. I love the Yamaha quality, ride, handling, performance and fit & finish. Appreciate the review.
Yes sir, thank you for watching and for your feedback my friend! Hit me up with any questions you have when you’re looking, there’s some great machines out there. 👍🏼
Have an Rmax LE, and wish it was a tad quieter, and better turning ratio too, joke with my buddies when I take 2 swipes coming down switch backs. Also, that rear bumper, don't hit anything, I'll twist the bed due to how it bolts on, found out the hard way. Lastly, if it's allowed on here, but PRP makes a really nice pad that fits over the shoulder bolsters. I'll have mine for years, great machine, as always, thanks for the video, ride on!!!
Yes sir, I would like for my RMAX4 LE to be a little quieter as well. It ride like a Cadillac with the iqs suspension for sure. I’ll check out the PRP pad. Thank you for watching and for your feedback.
Have been enjoying your videos and learning from you for many years. You may have already done this but can you provide us with a list of options you added to the Yamaha or point us to the video that shows them? Your experience and expertise sure helps us beginners from wasting money and making mistakes. Thanks so much for all the efforts.
Overall I like my 850 except the suspension and it is louder than I would like. I end up taking my atvs more than the sxs because I don't want to listen to the drone all day. Who makes the quietest sxs that still has decent suspension?
Your reviews are great and make my choices difficult. I've been looking at the Commander 1000 and then see Kawasaki has now come out with the Ridge. I will wait to see more real world information about the Ridge. Right now we have a RZR 900, it has been very reliable but the suspension beats you up after a full day. Mostly we ride the blues/greens at HM.
The Commander 1000 is a great machine as well. I can tell you the X2 1000 or the Commander would both give you a better ride. I don’t know much about the Ridge yet. Which Ridge model were you looking at?
I don't remember the particulars, likely the base model or one right above that. There is not a lot of information out there yet, including pricing. The reason we went with a 50 inch unit was at the time we bought it, PA only allowed 50 inch machines on state trails. There are a lot of good choices out there, but it will be a little while until we upgrade, having two kids in college limits what my wife and I can do right now. @@FishersOffRoad
How is the cab noise comparable to your Rmax. Really like the size of the X2 1000, but the Rmax interior noise and constant drone is really bad. Thanks for a great review
Great review as always. I've had an Rmax 4 for about 18 months now, and I think it is probably the best all around sxs ever made. I've had 2 rzr 800s, 2 Teryx 4's, mule pro mx, and now a ranger 500 sp northstar crew (hard cab heat only). With all of my ownership and riding experience, i believe I'm a pretty good judge of what's what. We have a riding group of 6 couples and now all but 1 couple has switched to the Rmax. Are the Yamahas perfect, absolutely not. But I don't think anyone matches the quality and toughness. If you ever get an opportunity, please do a review on the Polaris 570 sp northstar. Thanks again and hope you and your family have a safe and prosperous 2024.
That’s awesome Kevin, glad to hear it. You definitely have some experience when it comes to machines. As you said, there is no such thing as a perfect machine, but I do feel the Yamaha’s are well built, and the longevity of them is very impressive.
Does yamaha have a full cab enclosure for the X2, with heat and AC ? I've noticed a lot of videos on TH-cam. Seems like cab enclosures are getting more popular. I've always liked the X2, but there are some machines coming out with full cab enclosures from the factory, with heat and AC like the new Kawasaki Ridge, that look really nice.
They have all of that as an accessory add on, and it’s definitely top quality perfect fit and looks great. Go to their accessory link and put in the unit and accessory you’re looking for. yamaha-motor.com/shop/side-by-side

A-Arm Guards: yamaha-motor.com/p/Wolverine-X2-1000-AArm-Guards Rock Sliders: yamaha-motor.com/p/wolverine-rmax2-1000-rock-sliders The A-Arms are X2 1000 specific, so you'll need the one that fit that exact machine. I would buy one but there's not enough leg room, I'm 6'4 with both knees being replaced twice i just can't bend them enough to work the gas and brake. I wish they would make one with about 4 inches more leg room 😫
Great review Brian! Couple of questions. Is the windshield easily removable for the hot summer? On the engine noise. Is it quieter than my RZR 900S (stock exhaust). I would guess it’s cooler in the cab than my 900. Mine is quite warm in the summer. Lastly, at 17:00, the silver hoop on the driver front right above the axle, is that a brake line?
The glass windshield that I have installed is not very easy to remove. It is definitely not as hot as the RZR 900 S, we ran the RZRs for two years in our rental fleet, and they were definitely hot and loud. That is a brake line. 👍🏼
I was wondering about the heat, just got one delivered today, just in the process of breaking it in, seems like quite a bit of heat coming from the driver’s floorboard around the gas and brake pedal, some people say that’s normal, somebody also said it’s the train cooler lines that run right around there Kind of seems like when the fan kicks on it really blows a lot hotter air on the driver side not very much on the passenger side. Just wondering your thoughts. 0:08
I don’t really have the heat issue like you’re describing. What part of the country do you live in? I live in the Nashville, TN area and run with the full glass windshield in most of the time and don’t have the heat issue you’re describing. I’ll do some heat gun tests in mine and see what we’re getting as far as temps. Stay tuned for more info.
Live in Nebraska, yesterday was about 75° or so, just seems very warm down around the feet of the driver, but nothing on the passenger side not sure why or what this would be caused from

Thank you do you for the reply I will also be installing the side soft doors look like I should had waited I like the new ones for 2025 I wonder if they will make it to the X2?
How big are you? I’m only 5’6” so there’s plenty of room for me. I have some friends in the 6’ + range that say they have plenty of room. The seat does slide back as well.
@rockcreekrockcreek6644 you’re asking the wrong person that question. We have a side-by-side rental business that runs 40 units, you would be amazed what we’ve done on the trail. Probably for someone that doesn’t work on their own machines it would be too much. 👍🏼

Realistic review. This X2 would be great here in Maine where we have a 65 inch width limit on all trails. My one gripe is no turf mode for rear diff.

My biggest gripe with the them is that they went from 59 inches wide to over 62. People say it's not that big of a difference but it is to me.
