    I think I have solved cutie marks:
    When gained naturally, a cutie mark is merely a reflection of what you are naturally. However, cutie mark-altering magic has to change the personality or talents in order to change cutie marks, and the extent to which this happens varies based on the spell. In Magical Mystery Cure, they were dealing with an ancient magic created by the most powerful sorcerer ever, which is why it was strong enough to alter their destinies. In The Cutie Map, however, Starlight Glimmer is using a modern spell that merely dims personality in order to encourage sameness. In A Royal Problem, Starlight Glimmer seems to be using a similar technique that is altered to justify the switched cutie marks by an alteration of abilities as opposed to personalities.
    In conclusion, cutie marks are naturally gained as a symbol of your personality and abilities, but magic that alters them has to fundamentally change something about the personality or ability of the subject to justify their changed cutie mark.

      "When gained naturally, a cutie mark is merely a reflection of what you are naturally."
      I think G5 alludes to this as well. There it's stated that Cutie marks represent the luminescence or inner light of a pony.

    Sometimes, cutie marks DON'T give the unique skill, as seen in magical mystery cure, the main 6 (minus Twilight) had their cutie marks swapped, and their abilities weren't transferred over

    if only luna is able to raise and set the moon, how did celestia raise and set it the 1000 years luna was banished?

      Twilight could do so with both the sun and moon when she was given a bit of their magic in the amulet
      Maybe the bit of Luna's magic that stuck around after she was banished was used by Celestia for that task?

    [IF you really wanna know...]
    . Cutiemarks are a "Blood Curse" of Fate. It transfers only from mother to foal.
    . All creatures with a cutiemark are descendants from a small group of "earth" pony mares (baseline ponies); this includes all subrace chimeras [like unicorns & pegasi], as well as their non-pony descendants (by reverse_back hybridization); Ex: G5!Dragons & G5!Seaponies.
    . The curse was supposed to suppress identity (in a similar way as the "=" effectively does it in the two-parter FiM_S5 episode) & propagate by lineage to perpetuate a docile, obedient caste of servants [slaves].
    . After the "True Master Race" (the controller caste) went extinct, the spell defaulted to give control to the nearest "valid target" creature (that by an oversight in design of the curse, now it also included the cursed pony themselves); hence giving them "True Control of their Destiny" {at the moment the curse is triggered, or "reset"}.
    -> Examples of a "cutiemark destiny reset" were seen onscreen on FiM:S3E02 [Cadance] & FiM:S5E18 [Diamond Tiara]; others are also implied [Fluttershy in "Bats" (because her transformation removed her ability to speak/comunicate with ~anycreature~), also changed the cutiemark itself to avoid a Paradox].
    . During the Chaos Reign of Discord, many ponies "escaped" his eternal torment by traveling to another worlds (including the one of Equestria Girls), becoming one specific species of primate [the "Diamond Dogs" equivalents are like Cro-Magnon].
    -> Even without magic, cutiemarks still "manifest" on humans as an inevitable degenerative mental condition [endless nightmares]; that is preventable (progression delayed by an indefinite amount of time); by physically creating the "symbols" manually & also wearing them publicly (willingly, on purpose), as a residual effect of the "Blood Curse" aspect still remains [to "MARK" the servants].
    . Cutiemark Magic in G5 is more "advanced" because of careful "reprogramming" & eugenics [this is also why ponies are almost extinct]; as some of the lingering "side effects" of the "Blood Curse" regarding the "slave" & "submissive" parts of pony genetics were successfully removed [giving them the ability to wage war more effectively]-

      Where are you getting this information?

    • @adolfodef
      @adolfodef 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ShokuaK Original Research.
      It fits for the same "Sources" from where the mythological creatures added to the world of Equestria since after Season 2 originated [ back then, a long term "strategical shift" was performed by removing the Original Creator (Faust) & the leader of Story Editors (Renzetti)].
      -> Slight incompatibilities to the existing lore regarding cutiemarks were introduced in Magical Mystery Cure. Those were dealt with NOT in the episode itself, but overtime through seasons 4 to 6.
      . Whatever "Forbidden Research" Starlight Glimmer performed involving cutiemark manipulation, it was within the same "Dominion of Magic" of Mage Meadowbrooke [FATE], as she was deceiving her followers into believe she acquired an ANCIENT ARTIFACT (instead of using her own magic).
      . All of this was "dumbed down" in the S7 Finale by reducing Meadowbrooke´s scope of magic to "Hope" & potions.
      -> Hence, the logical conclusion is that Starlight simply "tapped" into what was "already there" (rather than creating a completely new form of magic).
      The stuff for G5 is much more speculative (& Dark, because of its implications).

    • @adolfodef
      @adolfodef 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Again, the same "Real Life Mythos" from where we get the later magical species of Equestria... all of them lead towards [The Fey].
      -> There is a lot about them (from "pagan cultures" like the Gypsies) that has NEVER EVER being used properly in animation [it is even rare to see it on serialized "magical" dramas]; that is surprising how much got "under the radar" of christian censorship.
      The "real deal" of cutiemarks in G4 could never be properly addressed, as it basically teaches Witchery [not the "bad type" that deals with devils & demons, but "the worse type" that has no obvious "bad reasons" to be banned].

    Cutie marks are unexplainable?
    Skill issue.
    I have a thorough explanation on cutie marks which cover all cases and all cutie mark shenanigans while also explaining what magic essentially is as a bonus, based on information the show gives us.
    That's correct: The show itself gives all information you need to know how cutie marks work.

    If Spike had a cutie mark if he got turned into a pony possibly a Unicorn, Would it be a scroll and feather?

    • @MSDife1
      @MSDife1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I never thought about transformation. I would think he would have a cutie mark because of his age and experience. And a scroll and feather is probably the best guess

      Just like that ponyville mayor??

    • @Birdsflight44
      @Birdsflight44 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's an argument to be made that it would be something to do with a draconic identity:
      The Map Table represents Spike with an icon of his head. A (Finnish) chapter book gives him a magic stone that turns him into a pony, with the conclusion being that he discovers his cutie mark to be that he wants to be a dragon- returning to normal. And in addition to that, Spike seems destined to be a Dragon Lord of some sort. He briefly became the official lord, then became diarch of Equestria. ("Royal advisor," but he's sitting right where Luna was, come on)
      And then he does prove to become the leader of the dragons in G5, for what that's worth. It is expected of him, even though he is a reluctant ruler.
