i always thought apple jacks cutie mark is 3 apples representing her family values. like she gets it when she returns home from the big city? but her destiny seems much more intertwined with the mane 6 than with her close family, so maybe it's just about close-knit relationships in general. also, applejack is one of the only ponies that hasbro kept the rights over from gen 1, and gen1 applejack has a cutie mark of just apples because she likes apples i think. so it's probably multiple factors of adapting the gen 1 design, representing her family and making her fit in with the other mane 6 _(apart from twiley and rainbow dash but i think theirs are different because the rainboom intertwined their destinies and twilight's arrival to ponyville brought them all together)_

I'm so glad to see someone else talking about this. I only noticed the other day that all the main six's cutie marks (apart from Dash n Twilight) are the same three symbols pattern. Fleur de Lis is highly associated with a lifestyle of french noblety which is represented through said simbol. Why does apple bloom get abilities from acquiring cutie marks the wrong way? Because this world is magical in nature. Every pony is magical in a way, and the cutie marks are an expression of this magic. Remember that tirek takes the magic away and the cutie marks dissapear Which means that Apple bloom is effectively messing with her magic, her biology, and providing herself a cutie mark and all its magical perks. This doesn't work however because it is ultimately magic alien to her. It is a disruption of her true self. I hope this helps.
I think zecora's potion in specific gave imidate skill for doing things related to the cutie mark, cuz when twilight casts starswirl's unfinished spell and swaps her friend's cutie marks, they don't imidiatly get good at those things
That's a really good point but you could make the same argument the opposite way since when Starlight switched Celestia and Luna's cutie marks they got each other's talents.

Also, when cutie marks are first talked about, Twist says “that’s what happens when you find that one thing that makes you super special” but yeah that’s it. Twilight also mentions in the first Trixie episode that every unicorn just has a little magic to match their special talent, and the only reason she’s so skilled is because her special talent IS magic. Rarity has the gem finding spell for example. This shows that Rarity’s cutie mark is JUST a special talent. Her destiny is to be an element of harmony, as with the other mane six, and keep Equestria safe. Twi’s is to become the main ruler of the country and take over after Celestia and Luna. If cutie marks were their destiny all of the princesses would have some sort of crown or symbol of royalty, and the entire mane six would have, idk, the different elements of harmony? Also, think about Celestia and Luna, their cutie marks are a sun and a moon, because if you look into pony history, Celestia is shown to be the first and only unicorn able to raise the sun completely on her own without becoming exhausted or hurting herself. We’re left to assume what Luna’s means, but I think that it’s her talent to enter dreams, since her and Celestia can both raise and lower the moon (later pony history) but only Luna is able to enter a pony’s dreams. Special agent sweetie drops (Bon Bon) has a candy cutie mark, but that’s clearly not what she’s doing with her life. Rainbow dash has a cloud with rainbow lightning, wouldn’t it be a Wonderbolts symbol? Or, like I said earlier, her element of harmony? I think the only time we even come close to seeing a pony refer to cutie marks as “destiny” is when Fluttershy has the wrong cutie mark and Twilight helps her get her memory back, but again, with her specific case animals ARE her destiny, she ends up building a sanctuary for them and puts almost all of her time and energy into it. The butterflies just mean that she can communicate with animals on another level. What she was saying was her destiny was TAKING CARE OF ANIMALS, which is true. Anyway, I can see your side, but these are all the reasons I’m a firm believer of what I stated.
@@EmberAura18 well I guess your right Fluttershy can communicate with other animals that's when Fluttershy got her cutie mark but I'm saying some ponies might say that it's their destiny and some pony would say no they are very special indeed and I'm pretty sure Celestia doesn't even seem exhausted by just raising the sun all on her own she seems fine
I just like to describe cuties marks as just one simple word destiny who you are/will be , what you will do , the role of your skills in your future etc and most importantly, the cutie marks predicting the future princess cadance being the ruler of the crystal empire and litterly her cutie mark being the crystal heart and twilight's cutie mark looking like the tree of harmony (and also predicting her friends and the role they will have in her life ) I would also think that rainbowdash's cutie makr is a representation of the sonic boom he created that day and them all having number 3 in common in there cutie mark looked it up and 3 represents harmony , understanding and wisdom the TREE OF HARMONY
it's more hard to try figure out the meaning of more side caracters' cutiemark beacuse we dk all the things that happened in there life and what they might represent to them
So there is one fan video about how Derpy got her cutiemark. She was delivering a mail, and somepony threw away the bubbles thingy for packaging. She got interested in it, and started to pop bubbles. Aaand that's how she got her cutiemark! It's fanon, but I like to think it's canon. It's cute
they specifically said its not about skill, its more about enjoyment, and finding what you want to do with your life. Its just that something you like to do, is often sometimes you spend a lot of time for, and are thus better at doing, also if you have a natural talent, itll be more likely that you will enjoy it
i always loved to think that if there were to make the cutie mark more detailed,, Fluttershy would have butterfly but you know,, those with eyes pattern ? yeah that !
the fleur de lis represents purity and nobility lot and I think it means her special talent is in beauty. While applejack means more than apples but her family and how she finds meaning in her applework and helping them out, that’s how she got her cutie mark anyways. and derby’s I think means that her bubblyness is contagious and that’s her real talent / meaning while post office and muffins are her interest.
I think apple-blooms cutie pox was just purely magical because you need to already do something t get a cutie mark in it, she had extreme magic so I think it was just a one case thing.
An interesting thing about cutie marks is that its 100% canon that a cutie mark decides what magic a unicorn can use. I have a theory that this applies to all ponies not just unicorns because for example rainbow dash is the only living pony in existence that can fly fast enough for a sonic rainboom and yet she does this when she is still in flight school! The only thing that sets her apart from every other pegasus is her cutie mark that she got by performing the rainboom. Another example is earth ponies like applejack and maud who have super strength and yet most other earth ponies do not possess super strength, but they can possess other abilities. Just one more example is fluttershy's ability to speak with animals only appearing when she got her cutie mark. You can't convince me fluttershy had never seen an animal before that point even cloudsdale has birds and yet she couldn't speak to them until she got her mark. So basically yeah cutie marks determine a pony's magic no matter what kind of pony they are
in the actual daring do books it says that daring gets a basic understanding of who someone is by looking at their cutie mark meanwhile there was a pony in "fame and misfortune" who had a literal GLASS OF WATER as a cutie mark uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i don't think anyone could guess personality traits from that 😅
Would love to hear more, for me Flim and Flam cutie marks makes no sense at all? maybe in the first ep they appeared in it does, cause its apples and they are working with apples?? but later on its establish that they are talented at conning poines so.... why apples. Obv it's probably because the writers didn't expect to bring them back at first, but still.
What always bothered me is how some ponies have names related to their cutie marks even though they dont have them at first... It doesnt really make sense in-universe. Its like they're predicting the future or something.
BEST OPTION! But I don't know why the Pie family would call give Pinkie that name like, their whole family have been rock farmers so I would assume most children would be named after stones at birth
It’s also weird cus for the main six, their name is basically related to their cutie marks but their names are assigned by birth and the cutie marks are not. Also derpy’s is basically calling her bubbly or clumsy or smth that’s what I think
yeah nearly every character in the show cutie mark matches their name. when the crusaders start searching, they try random skills, why wouldn’t they try something related to their name if it’s blatantly obvious there’s a connection there
The fact that Fleur de Lis cutie mark symbolize that she is speaking French + if we take in account the cutie mark of the cutie pox Apple Bloom got that made her speak French then that means France exist in MLP universe. Now we just need to find it.
@@localbearmascot Yeah but in that case where is it ? Twilight and her friends in the last season explored lands that were beyond Equestria but none of them was France or at least any other country that speaks another language like that. Are the other countries hidden or something ? They don’t want to be discovered by Equestria ? XD
@@localbearmascot But I rewatched MLP in French language and what is interesting is that Apple Bloom doesn’t say she is speaking French. She says she is speaking OLD French. Ancient one. I know it’s very likely to make the kids understand why Apple Bloom is surprised to speak French when she is already speaking French. But maybe French is just the ancient language of Equestria, like Latin or Greek can be for us. And now, only a few ponies are fluent in those ancient languages such as Fleur de Lis and Apple Bloom when she got the mark.
i think cutie marks are a representation of everything about that pony. but in a way, its up to the pony to decide what it means to them. if a cutie mark is a representation of you, then surely you know it beyond just the surface level idea of special talents. Applejack's cutie mark is 3 apples which on the surface doesnt seem to represent much beyond her being an apple farmer, which doesnt correlate much with how she got her cutie mark being her realizing her strong family values, but on a deeper level that DOES represent exactly that. she's part of the apple family, and puts all of her effort into caring for her family and the farm. and it also represents her love for her friends, because friends are family! apples are her family, her source of income, her life's work, and all of that is what she holds dear and sees as being her place in the world - a family-oriented apple farmer. or maybe im looking too deep into a show for children. but thats how i see it
Honestly i think the only third option for cutiemarks could be them being about something you just enjoy. Ex. Applejack enjoys helping the family and the farm, or even pinkie pie liking to throw parties. Cuz that seems like the logical third explanation since in one episode where the cmc are helping others with their cutie marks, one filly's parents are concerned because her cutiemark is literally a skull. They literally looked like they were assuming the worst until she dug up a dinosaur bone and realized she was just an archeologist. [ Yes i know that a few seconds later they seemed to assume she was gonna be a pirate but, come on we know they were likely also thinking she had a special talent or interest in killing or something. ]
I think I know what the cutie mark means because in so therapy sometimes is a bit clumsy well like actually she is a bit clumsy and I didn’t have that seven bubbles means work or Bad work
think about this as well, I thought the cutie mark represents a talent you discover you’re good at. but when sugar bell from starlights Village does not have her cutie mark, she is not able to bake well anymore, even though she used to be great at it because that’s what her cutie mark is. this means she wasn’t good at baking before she had a cutie mark. if she isn’t naturally good at baking than how is that her cutie mark? from your example it does seem like it instantly makes you good at a skill but that means it could be something you actually aren’t good at, how would you find out without the cutie mark you don’t have that skill?
@@MSDife1 Of course! I'm voice training too, I hope to sound as good as you one day! I know it was just two words but you sounded so natural it made me jealous
i think another thing about the applejack thing is just how connected she is with the farm life that she lives in? whenever starlight takes her cutie mark away, she can't even come up with her "country-isms" and she loses her enhanced strength. ultimately, her cutie mark is just about her home and how she was just made to live a farm life. as for why it's three apples, i guess the world just recognizes her as the definitive apple pony, and three seems to be a pretty common number for cutie mark symbols.
I mean.. what's to be confused about applejack's cutie mark is apples because she's good at bucking apples. perhaps the whole family has happles because they are all good at bucking apples who said only one pony can have the same talent. I don't think it has anything to do with personality. Yes cutie marks are given to people who excel at a topic but also allow them to exceed at that topic which is why applebloom was incredible at any cutie mark she got. You can tell because in the cutie map when the mane 6 lose their marks, they also lose their abilities, fluttershy cant talk to animals and pinkie cant' make anyone laugh. Derpy has a cutie mark in bubbles but she is a mail pony. Perhaps she is working out of her field because she can't find work related to bubbles. many college grads aren't using their dimplomas so its not unheard of. Perhaps that's why shes so bad at being a mail pony- it's not her expertise.
Wait till you know g3/g3.5 cutie marks possibly work like litterly g3.6 Newborn cuties and g3 so soft newborns have cutie mark on diaper and I love it sorry me liking mlp every generation wanted to exceplan this I’ve made a whole headcanon how g3 and g3.5 are the same universe

princess cadance being the ruler of the crystal empire and litterly her cutie mark being the crystal heart
and twilight's cutie mark looking like the tree of harmony (and also predicting her friends and the role they will have in her life )
I would also think that rainbowdash's cutie makr is a representation of the sonic boom he created that day
and them all having number 3 in common in there cutie mark
looked it up and 3 represents harmony , understanding and wisdom
the TREE OF HARMONY
it's more hard to try figure out the meaning of more side caracters' cutiemark beacuse we dk all the things that happened in there life and what they might represent to them
So there is one fan video about how Derpy got her cutiemark. She was delivering a mail, and somepony threw away the bubbles thingy for packaging. She got interested in it, and started to pop bubbles. Aaand that's how she got her cutiemark! It's fanon, but I like to think it's canon. It's cute
I had an idea that cutie Marks come in when an certain important event happens to a pony. I'd say that's canon. Can't not be if it's cute enough
fleur de lis' cutie mark really does make NO sense
Well her talent could be speaking French, as her cutie mark includes a flower that’s on the French-Ontarien flag, as well as the Quebec one
they specifically said its not about skill, its more about enjoyment, and finding what you want to do with your life. Its just that something you like to do, is often sometimes you spend a lot of time for, and are thus better at doing, also if you have a natural talent, itll be more likely that you will enjoy it
That just came out as beautiful
I always thought Derpy's cutie mark meant she was like a bubble..... there's not much going on under the surface 😂 anyways good video
i always loved to think that if there were to make the cutie mark more detailed,, Fluttershy would have butterfly but you know,, those with eyes pattern ? yeah that !
the fleur de lis represents purity and nobility lot and I think it means her special talent is in beauty.
So basically yeah cutie marks determine a pony's magic no matter what kind of pony they are
in the actual daring do books it says that daring gets a basic understanding of who someone is by looking at their cutie mark
meanwhile there was a pony in "fame and misfortune" who had a literal GLASS OF WATER as a cutie mark
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i don't think anyone could guess personality traits from that 😅
Fluttershy being good with animals and knowing a LOT about clothes and sewing
1:33 it’s because she makes people happy. Much like how bubbles make people happy. Not an official explanation but I don’t care it’s my favorite.
You've convinced me. Bubbles are a natural joy bringer in society, even cats love bubbles
Would love to see more content surrounding cutiemarks 🦄
Would love to hear more, for me Flim and Flam cutie marks makes no sense at all? maybe in the first ep they appeared in it does, cause its apples and they are working with apples?? but later on its establish that they are talented at conning poines so.... why apples. Obv it's probably because the writers didn't expect to bring them back at first, but still.
and even in that episode they were still just pretending when they actually knew nothing about apples! so how could their cutie mark the apples??
The cutie mark crusaders trying to make sense of other people cutie marks, so not even they know how they truly works
What always bothered me is how some ponies have names related to their cutie marks even though they dont have them at first... It doesnt really make sense in-universe. Its like they're predicting the future or something.
Yeh... there's no hope of figuring that out, lol. Literally not a clue of how names work
@@MSDife1 maybe they get a name change at some point lol
BEST OPTION! But I don't know why the Pie family would call give Pinkie that name like, their whole family have been rock farmers so I would assume most children would be named after stones at birth
@MSDife1 I have no idea... This has been bothering me for so long and there is no logical answer for it...
I agree, the cutiemarks are more complex than just 'skill'
not a confusing as G5 cutie marks
Gonna find it it Legends Z
I mean, Equestria is a country right? If we assume that Equestria is MLP Universe's version of USA then there might be a MLP version of France
Applejack's cutie mark is 3 apples which on the surface doesnt seem to represent much beyond her being an apple farmer, which doesnt correlate much with how she got her cutie mark being her realizing her strong family values, but on a deeper level that DOES represent exactly that. she's part of the apple family, and puts all of her effort into caring for her family and the farm. and it also represents her love for her friends, because friends are family! apples are her family, her source of income, her life's work, and all of that is what she holds dear and sees as being her place in the world - a family-oriented apple farmer.
or maybe im looking too deep into a show for children. but thats how i see it
Mlp started as a kids show and lot of stuff dont make sense specially in early seasons
yeah a lot of magic in mlp is weird
I think the reason ditzy Doo/muffins has bubbles 4 a cutie mark is that it’s the closest thing to airhead.
I haven't thought about that one actually
With zecora’s potion, could you give a earth pony unicorn powers
Yeah! And I assume if the potion doesn't stop, you eventually ascend past godhood
I just discovered your channel.
Yes I would like to hear your thoughts on CMs!
I've always wondered why tf does Double Diamond have THREE diamond FLOWERS as his cutie mark-
I think I know what the cutie mark means because in so therapy sometimes is a bit clumsy well like actually she is a bit clumsy and I didn’t have that seven bubbles means work or Bad work
I would love to see a more in depth video on this!
think about this as well, I thought the cutie mark represents a talent you discover you’re good at. but when sugar bell from starlights Village does not have her cutie mark, she is not able to bake well anymore, even though she used to be great at it because that’s what her cutie mark is. this means she wasn’t good at baking before she had a cutie mark. if she isn’t naturally good at baking than how is that her cutie mark? from your example it does seem like it instantly makes you good at a skill but that means it could be something you actually aren’t good at, how would you find out without the cutie mark you don’t have that skill?
Apple jack is apples because that’s what she’s passionate about. That’s what i think though
I just subscribed because I want to see that Cutie mark theory video!
This would be a good theory vid about the cutie marks so yeah I would like to see a theory about this
im interested!
Do this as a full video please
IM INTERESTED
Media literacy is dead
woah was that you at the end? Are you voice training to become Starlight?
Not Starlight, just wanted to do a voice. Thank you btw! made me very happy
@@MSDife1 Of course! I'm voice training too, I hope to sound as good as you one day! I know it was just two words but you sounded so natural it made me jealous
@@arko3709 cool! You probably sound better than you think 😁 I know I just hear myself slightly differently
i think another thing about the applejack thing is just how connected she is with the farm life that she lives in? whenever starlight takes her cutie mark away, she can't even come up with her "country-isms" and she loses her enhanced strength. ultimately, her cutie mark is just about her home and how she was just made to live a farm life. as for why it's three apples, i guess the world just recognizes her as the definitive apple pony, and three seems to be a pretty common number for cutie mark symbols.
I mean.. what's to be confused about applejack's cutie mark is apples because she's good at bucking apples. perhaps the whole family has happles because they are all good at bucking apples who said only one pony can have the same talent.
