In some RPGs, you meet in a tavern. In other RPGs, you are captured by mind flayers and escape a nautiloid hurtling through the first layer of hell… and that’s the tutorial. Great video again. I learn something new in every one of these-for instance I didn’t realize that the plane the nautiloid flees to before ending up in the Nine Hells was the Shadowfell.
There is a mod too play as the main origin characters in character creation, I'm literally playing as Barbarian Shadowheart and it's amazing, the amount of dialogue she has when you start the game off as her is interesting as most of it is already finished and within the games files.
@@Boofangus This was back when BG3 was still in early access and I was doing some tinkering with mods and discovered lots of finished dialogue with origin characters since you could not start the game as origin characters in early access. Now that the full game has been out for more then year yes, you can not only start the game as origin character's since they each have there own unique dialogue, choice's, opening cut scenes event's and endings, but you can indeed change their class after getting withers into your camp. Or you could use a mod that allows you do that at the character creation screen.
These videos are so cool, man. Having grown up playing D&D and BG1 and 2, IWD 1 and 2, and Neverwinter Nights, this is just straight up comfort lore to consume haha. I love this!! Thanks Wolf!
Shar did create the Shadowfell when she combined the Shadow with the Negative Plane but she does not rule it. That role goes to The Raven Queen who is slowly losing her mind.
I am completely new to DnD and the lore thereof. I’m watching your videos, both in this playlist and others, as a crash course for lore knowledge before playing BG3. Excellent job in presentation and organization of multiple topics; you’re a great presenter and I appreciate your work.
Fun fact about Lolth: She's originally from Arborea (the first "layer" called Arvandor) & was, at one point, a part of the Seldarine pantheon, when she was known as Araushnee. But, she betrayed Corellon (the prime deity of the Seldarine & her lover) during a conflict with Gruumsh (the Orcish God), which nearly led to Corellon's death, but the plot failed & she was revealed as the conspirator. She, along with her children Vhaeraun and Eilistraee, were cast out of Arvandor, with Lolth falling into the Abyss. Just wanted to contribute that. I love Forgotten Realms lore so much 😁
and Eilistraee chose to be exile because she believes dark elfs need a beacon of hope when the time comes, rather than stuck with evilness of other dark Seldarine deities.
Vera T failed to mention that Corellon is also responsible for Gruumsh being the one-eyed orc god (after Sehanine Moonbow fixed Corellon's sword which was not supposed to break during his battle against Gruumsh), and the reason why Vhaeraun and Eilistraee were cast out of Arvandor with their mother was because Vhaeraun conspired with Araushnee on her third attempt to kill Corellon, to have all minor evil aligned deities that hate the elven pantheon to mount a massive assault on Arvandor (Her second attempt after Gruumsh was convincing Malar the Beast Lord to go kill Corellon). During the war, the evil deity known as Ghaunadaur The Lord of Slime got involved and trapped Corellon in slime, leaving him vulnerable to to be attacked by minor evil deities, and Eilistraee tried to save him from atop a tree by firing her arrows, but one of her arrows homed in on Corellon, drawn by the magic energy Araushnee put on the sword's sheath, and before Eilistraee's arrow struck Corellon in the chest, he realized that Araushnee had betrayed him. When the war ended and all the elven pantheon checked on Corellon who was still alive thanks to Eilistraee's arrows being too big to penetrate his ribs (The arrows Eilistraee had were meant to penetrate the lungs of giants), Araushnee announced that she had an elixir to "save" Corellon. The elixir was poisoned by Araushnee, and if the poisoned elixir killed Corellon or made his condition worse, she would use Eilistraee as a scapegoat, and everyone will believe it since everyone knows it was her arrow that hit Corellon's chest, and she is never known to have missed her target. But before Araushnee could make barely consious Corellon drink the poisoned elixir, Sehanine Moonbow, who was detained by Vhaeraun before the war because she confronted Araushnee about her trying to betray Corellon, broke free, stopped Araushnee from giving the elixir to Corellon and together with Aerdrie Faenya and Halani Celanil they manifested a new goddess named Angharradh who was sometimes considered the personification of three separate elven goddesses and one single goddess, healed Corellon herself, and Corellon, with a heavy, heartbroken heart, decided to banish Araushnee, and Vhaeraun, believing he was a misguided child doing as his mother ordered. He knew Eilistraee was innocent, but Eilistraee VOLUNTEERED to be banished too. She didn't explicitly say why, but she hinted that she has seen future events, she knows that her mother will become the Spider Queen Lolth and manipulate most of the dark elves to be loyal to her during the Crown Wars and live in the Underdark, and she wants to be a beacon of hope for drow that want to escape Lolth's influence. There we go. There's more to the story than most people think. 😁
Thank you so much for this. Currently on the R.A. book Streams of Silver and the Abyss is where Ertu was from. Your breakdowns on lore help so much and I am super excited to see what BG3 does.
7:41 Verily I am, through thy wisdom, transforming into a bona fide scholar ☝💀 *Withers intensifies* All jokes aside, Baldur's Gate 3 has been my first ever D&D experience and I'm having such a blast. Thank you so much for sharing the lore in your videos I'm cruising through them it's truly amazing !
Wishing to feed the algorithm, I'm just going to say that it's the video I'm watching before setting off with learning for the biggest exam of my last academic year today. Keeping my fingers crossed for this series to keep going as well as it already does (and for my hitting the books just as splendidly). Cheers, Wolf, glad you keep covering the classic D&D stuff!
5:03 Love the transition here! Amazing video as always. Your lore videos brought me to your channel years ago and I know they will be paramount for my enjoyment of BG3!
I'd never played any Baldur's Gate games before BG3 and have only had minimal exposure to the larger Forgotten Realms lore, this series has helped me IMMENSELY in trying to keep up with the subtext in a lot of the BG3 quests. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge, it's been very helpful for a lore junkie like myself!
1. Does it mean that the same outer planes are connected to many different crystal spheres meaning that many different settings have the same lawful, good, evil and chaotic gods and lore outside of the material plane? 2. If Feywild and Shadow realm are indirect copies of the material plane does it mean they copy the other parts such as vacuum space and other planets outside of the planet where Toril is located?
Good questions. Not entirely sure but I do recall Dragonlance having a similar plane of existence model. Many of these other settings are not developed enough.
Thanks for doing these videos helps build excitement for the full release. Also who knows how much this background info will help in gameplay or just roll playing
going back and watching this after having played Baldurs gate a thousand times over; I love seeing how welcoming this community has been, especially as a newbie. Id never gotten to play D&D until baldurs gate 3, but being able to catch up on the lore thanks to the community, it feels so nice. ❤
soo much interesting stuff, now when i travel to different plane in bg3 i will understand more. with these lore videos we will become hardcore loremasters of the realm. thx wolf
A great DnD game to play would be Planescape Torment. You get quite a good idea of how the planes work and the majority of the game is in the city called Sigil, also known as the City of Doors. From this city you can basically go anywhere as long as you know where the door is and the key that opens the door. This also can cause some issues as anything can be a door and anything can be a key, you could be whistling your favourite tune while walking through an archway and find yourself in the 9 hells with no way of going back.
Still watching. xD Really enjoying this video! I appreciate the refresher on all of this. It's been many years since I've played Dungeons and Dragons and when I did, games rarely went this far to include other planes of existence. Appreciate this video! :D

7:56 just commenting cause you said to. lol But seriously tho, you’re the first person I’ve seen mention Dragonlance as another universe in any D&D setting. I mean, randomly/casually citing Dragonlance when talking about Forgotten Realms anyhow
Ah! Thank you for the lorevideo. Next to watch all plane of shadow videos! xD Gonna love playing my Rogue monk paladin of Shar character! Hope we get multiclassing.
Thank you for the video! I do not remember if this was mentioned before. In opening cinematics the dragon roars in anger then the ship teleports to Avernus because lore wise neither dragons nor gythianki can't enter Baator (the Nine Hells). Will not post details here in case that may be spoilers.
For reference, while each layer of the Nine Hells has its own name, the plane as a whole is called Baator. The Devils that reside there are also called Baatezu. The best D&D computer game that explores the different planes of existence is Planescape: Torment.

This is a great explanation video Wolf! I'll probably use this when trying to explain D&D's planar system to new players.
Awesome! Happy to help
So glad I found this channel and am hyped to catch up on DnD lore. Please make longer videos.
I've been playing D&D since the early 70's and this video both reminded me and taught me a few new things. Something all D&D players should watch.

😂😂
I love the lore series. Keep them coming!! Great video, so detailed and understandable!!! Amazing work wolf well done
You got it Dimitris
Amazing vid so far, learning about this lore gets me even more excited to play the game. What fascinates me is how this science reflects reality.
Great to hear. Thanks

I had to rewind my research several times as well. Totally understandable :-D Thanks Jazz
Excellent lore video!!!
I still have some of the older books from 2nd Edition and 3rd.
Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you.

This was rather helpful, because it's not the easiest thing to grasp when you read bits here and there. Great summary!
Thanks Baraz
Love this video Wolf! Reminds me of the hours I spent pouring over D&D books as a kid!
Crazy how much there is to it. I feel like DnD lore could be offered at Universities as a 4 year bachelor program.
You explain things really well and using analogies for our reality really helps too. Thank you for making these lore videos.
Thanks for watching
Great vid Wolf, got the Faerun planes map as my desktop background now to further immerse myself!
niceeee
Love these lore videos, keep up the good work! 🧁🧁
Will do thanks
So I am a history buff and now a proud schoolar, I would name the school Wolf of learning hehe. ❤😂
Loving these weekly lore vids. Keep up the good work

Thanks for watching!!
I was looking forward to this and you never disappoint! Thanks man

Awesome video, im very deep into Pathfinder Kingmaker right now and alot of this info seems to apply.
Love the lore videos! Keep up the amazing work Wolf! ❤
I'm super new to Forgotten realms, so these videos are awesome AND extremely good quality. Nicely done, wolf.
Great to hear. Thanks for watching
Well done. Easy to follow. Much appreciated. Until next Sunday, thanks Wolf.
Thanks Ron.
Thank you! I have been confused about this for so long!
Good video, helped me understand that wheel I’ve seen many times before
I'm so glad I played baldurs gate 3 and fell in love with the lore and world
Another awesome lore video as always 👏thanks Wolf!
Thanks Jamkas
Thanks for a great video wolf!
Thank you for another great video! Please keep them going!

I have been playing DnD for over 30 years. Thank you for making these great videos
Thanks for watching
I love this series! :D Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching
These videos are a great refresh a week out from release.
Please please do a in depth video for each plane! You are amazing!
Thanks you. I’ll definitely do at least a few of them. The ones that appear to be important in relation to BG3
Great Video... good explanation of the planes.
Thanks Dragon!
Wolfheart's Words of Wisdom.....Time to Publish it Wolf!! ;) When are you Plane BG3? lol
I see what you did there.. nice :-D
These tutorials are very helpful. I've been playing DnD for years and not understood the planes. Now I have a much better idea of them.
Love the way you broke these down! Thank you sir! You're doing God's work! All of them!
Appreciate that!
Once again, you nailed it! I can't wait for more!!
Thanks Keith! Good to be back at some lore like the good ole days.
For reference, while each layer of the Nine Hells has its own name, the plane as a whole is called Baator. The Devils that reside there are also called Baatezu.
Also, another plane not mentioned in this video is the plane of Sigil, which is essentially center of the Multiverse in the middle of the Outer Planes, a hub plane for interplanar travel, and home to the Lady of Pain.
I have to do some more research on Sigil. I’m not sure why it doesn’t show up on the Great Wheel.
Amazing as always, Brother!
Hope all is well with you and your family!
You as well. Thanks!
Sweet sweet lore. Getting myself a new PC so that I can play on max settings on full release.
Hell yeah!
Great idea, i did exactly that already.
Loved it! Reminded me of the time I read Drizzt stories as a kid
Such a great series & believe it or not, RA Salvatore keeps releasing more books to this day.
@@WolfheartFPS Not gonna lie, I thought of pulling them off my shelf to re-read. Maybe I'll give some of his newer stuff a go.
Seen this on jorphdan's and mr rhexx's channels and now ill happily watch it on wolfhearts channel
BTW, another awesome Lore Video, Wolfheart, please keep them coming 🙂
Thanks Marcus. Plenty more to come
Thanks for doing these lore videos. It'll make BG3 more fun 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great video and btw I love the lore series. But I wanted to ask about Positive Plane and Negative Plane that I can read on The Wheel? What are they?
Ya know I should have briefly touched upon them, but there's not really much to talk about. The positive plane is said to be an infinite blinding firestorm of light. The negative plane is an airless infinite void of black.
I could easily watch an hour of this breakdown, haha. Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching. Many more to come
You Rock Wolf!
🍻
Appreciate the videos sir! Good day!!
Appreciate you too Wolf
We appreciate you too, Wolf.
