An anti bounce, delay, and duration of cut timers can help on the strain gauge to position the cut out where it needs to be based on an rpm table at shift point. You can do it with a single timer but it may be easier to not get wrong with individual timers. Creating a datalog to see what's happening to rpm during each shift can be interesting if you can see fine enough resolution to show shift effect details. Fun stuff.
How do you money shift an engine making that much power and do NO damage to the engine??? Gotta give a shoutout to Pete for building this engine as Cleeter proofed as he could because the fact that it went for another run instead of being pushed back to the garage is a true testament of strength imho
I think the strain gauge saved it, he realized what happened before he let go of the knob and started pushing it back out of gear so the spark was completely off the whole time. He's flat shifting so without that ignition cut he would have put full power through it and it would have yeeted a rod before he even knew what happened. It dragged the rpm up but it was just inertia spinning the crank which isn't nearly as hard on it. Not ideal and they should probably pull the heads off and check the push rods but at least the block doesn't have any new ventilation holes 😅
@@Joebobinator The spark isn't completely off! He even showed and explained how it worked at the trailer. Yes, power is reduced when there is pressure on the shifter.

If I recall correctly, it cuts the ignition and takes away the cushion of the mixture igniting. The Leroy engine was built for high rpm, luckily, but I would agree with Cleetus that he might not get away with doing that too many times.

To be honest it took it better than the old 427 could've
HOLY SHIT was that luck.. Jfc lmao. My heart sank for you i can only imagine how you felt lol. Is cleet running the same class as Jim Howe and the other NPK cars that are there since the starlets guys cried him out of the class he won last year? Thats crazy
Typical cry babies hes super outgunned and his only chance of winning is if something happens to the guy next to him it looked like the last guy he raced had bigger tires and wheelie bars hopefully he's not in the same class as them but either way the people he's racing are way lighter and into the 5s it's bullshit to be honest they expect him to race in that class after traveling across the country to literally probably either not even qualify or get sent home immediately
No, those car's are in ProMod Exhibition.
@@michaelwynne4346 i watched qualifying and Jim blew up on his first qualifying run for outlaw vs extreme.. Rankin qualified too. They're competing this year.
@@michaelwynne4346 just watched the rest of Q1.. There's 4 npk cars on the property to compete this year not exhibition hits like last year.. Cleet first hit was 6.35 @ 233 mph without pushing the motor yet. Mullet gonna tickle the 5s this week
@@JayMac I seen that, yesterday when they announced for them to come to the lanes that's what they were calling them, thanks for letting me know.
"when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's BAD." - Harry Hogge
Well going back to the kind of stuff you boys were doing when I discovered you when you got Ruby. You seem to be MOSTLY past that now but your at such a level now it's not another junkyard motor away from being up and running cheap again. You've got lots of backup and like that now so just another bump in the road for you, you'll overcome and be back on top quickly I'm sure👍
I don’t recall Garrett EVER money shifting 🤔…that’s been posted anyway.
Am I wrong?
But surviving that level of money shift is proof Pete’s engines are a BEAST
@@fast97z24 buddy has the money to try stupid things that might work tho 😂
Don't they have lockout trans now so you can't money shift?
I honestly never remember him ever money shifting
I want to see these guys do a land speed record at Bonneville salt flats, with Leroy and a 6 speed transmission, would be insane!
Bonneville cars are built with aerodynamic wind efficiency in mind, Leroy is damn cool but aerodynamic is NOT one of them!
@@KevinHuff23 it has the power 💪😂 but ya your totally right
@@zakbrown7859yeah no it doesn't. The top speed was set by a jet engine with 11,000 hp
@zakbrown7859 110,000hp not 11k. A top fuel dragster would have no chance let alone leroy
@@sethwoodward5515There are different classes, so there's that.
Our boy Cleet may occasionally miss 3rd gear.. but he never misses *third base*
I like that you post all the good stuff that happens, and the bad stuff too. Its all part of racing.
Jackstand is amazingly exciting and funny - he don’t gotta say much but his seriousness saying anything mechanical is funny - “good thing you had it turned down” 😂😂😂😂 everyone is living
Can we see a crawler build ever? 1990s land cruiser with an ls swap would be SIXK
My buddy has had a few of them and built couple himself. The one he built this year is absolutely in sane probably has 150k into and the LS is BUILT. First one he used a Jeep Cherokee frame and body then the other two were custom exo-skeletons.
Pretty common in Nissan patrols but I haven't seen as many cruisers with them.
7:54 Well now Cleet when you say "We'd all better pray it's something we can fix" and it's actually then "Something you can fix. You'd better "PRAISE THE LORD!!".
i couldnt be the only one that cackled laughing at the A10 soundbite 🤣
"I can fork it, get it out" is why I love James
I love how calm cleetus stays even though he just locked up the smx
It’s a almost certainty that some cussing went down off camera about it
A smx isn’t that much money to him. That carbon cub was easily 300,000$
It’s alright ol’son just don’t get ahead of yourself. You boys have what it take to take on any Powersport you choose. Keep
Kicking ass brother!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BABY you are so lucky ,and soon to have another. you two are so blessed ,
Cleat stay safe so we can watch grampa Cleat race the vintage MULLET, LEROY, NEIGHBOR , AND THE CUB BY THEN it will = TO A BI-PLANE ...AND JET/ SPACESHIP, and HELIO THRUSTERCOPTOR
This dude is straight out of Hollywood filming 2 videos seamlessly. Would never have a guessed You have this type of night in the mcflurry video.
I love leroy, mullet, mcflurry and all of them. But that dang blazer is my fav.
Back in the 70's some guys ran a shifter called a vertical gate. Your missed shift would never happen. Now, you may have restrictions that I may not know about. Love you guys.
Thanks for being a real one. Hell yeah brother 🎉
Phew! A little learning, no real damage and yer flying!
A good night of testing!
I kind of didn't want to watch this video with the title. I was like noooo. but in the end at least it wasn't a race lost due to a mistake. You would have been soo hard on yourself for that. Test n tune is the perfect time for those things to happen. Nothing is on the line except your dead line to make sure your ready for the actual races. I was honestly expecting way worse outcomes for those but all is good and you can keep moving. You guys got this!!
When Garrett actually sees his success. The way he looked at mullet. You made it brother
Next car is the t-Rex.
You’re on 2 legs, shredding, 2 baby arms
Leroy sounded like a Nascar! Daaaamn!
Sam calling that the RPM was at 9,700 before the laptop came out is legendary...
Rough day, but test sessions are exactly where you want this stuff to happen. That way you can get it fixed and dialed in time for the big event.
A few scares to remind you that "MONEY" can always brake at some point👍. You are still only human... Let it sink in man....
Good luck. Only let it all hang out if it"s only to win the money. Other than that, let them live for another race👍.
You can do this man !!!!😎
Did you hear them dodging the A10? I head the burrrrr😅😂
