It'll likely be slightly faster / more maneuverable than the Hammerhead due to its larger Engine arrangement similar to how the Polaris' engine arrangement gives it its extra speed/maneuverability above that of a Javelin or an Idris. Now this is not me saying it will "Destroy" a Capital Class ship. It wont.. at least not on its own, but i DO see the Perseus being something that is used to 'weaken' a Capital Class ship by damaging turrets, PDS's and Components via pass-through of its ballistic weapons. Just like the Ares Starfighters will be doing, focusing on 'components' of larger ships.
Really cool design from an art perspective, but no engineer for the military would ever place turrets like this. They would place all of the turrets along the spine and belly midline so they have 180+ degree arcs and can bring multiple to bear no matter where the enemy is. No one would ever put them in these weird quadrants.
I think Perseus has a lot unspoken advantages. For one, it has bespoke weapons, so its guns will always be fully upgraded when needed to file insurance claim. Armor also has similar advantage, as it's not a replaceable component like shields. It's crew efficient, meaning that they could just be spammed on an area with relatively little fear of human casualties and they can to some extent cover each other as while one is attacked, another shoots the attackers. Being they're kind of flexible tarpit brawlers, it's probably pretty annoying to deal with a fleet of them without specialized response.
I am certain the Perseus will be hard to deal with and in groups they will be dangerous. Yet one of the biggest discussion topics are its guns, which firepower we dont know.
Lets hope the turrets extend out slightly when in operation. Maybe if they find the guns are not strong enough for what they wanted they can go up a size. But this ships only purpose is to be a fleet escort along with a hammer head. The perseus kills the bigger guys while the hammer kills the little guys. I can see it taking on a polaris quite sucessfully with a good crew but anything that hits harder then it will quickly take it down
Prob not the first to say this. Is the Perseus really a frigate? Frigate class is really idris/kraken level. Polaris is one class smaller at corvette. Perseus is really just a large ship in the same class as HH.
Ive been eagerly waiting almost 3 years for my perseus. I cant wait to finally fly it. I hope the main turret batteries get beefed up a bit and positioned where they can focus fire the same target.
I think they will be able to focus the same targets from all sides except rear and sides of the rear. And most optimal angle seems to be sides where it is likely to have the best angles. I also hope the guns will get upgraded and have some serious firepower.

Okay so. When the Perseus was made (In lore) It was a Frigate. A modern day Frigate 300 years from now would still be called a Frigate. Even if it wasn't up to scratch with the "New" Frigates. A WW2 Destroyer is still a Destroyer. The new role of the Perseus is "Heavy Gunship" But that doesn't take away from the fact that the ship itself is the Perseus Class Frigate. Also you can't use sizes to mean anything. Destroyers are meant to be the smallest warships outside of patrol ships/Corvettes. Yet the Javelin is almost if not more than twice the length of the Frigate in Star Citizen.

Say what you want but this design and this ship was supposed to be from Anvil it would have made a lot of sense given the design and would have added a big ship to the Anvil garage
we saw big turrets in the squadron demo at citizen con, the velocity of the projectiles was so slow. that hitting anything smaller ships than a hammerhead will be a struggle. as you showed the angels are quite limited + i assume the transverse speed will also be aweful. wit the available information it seems the turrets will have a niche role. many targets will be to fast and on the other side targets will be too heavy... it feels like it will good for hunting hammerhead, itself and carracks...
I think this ship might actually be like a fish out of water, when fighting against smaller ships. Because the mini turrets are meant for anti torpedo use and big turrets might not be fast enough.
Which sucks because in lore it took on/out vanduul destroyers which are far larger than it. if its guns are weaker than the Polaris main guns this ship will be DOA. Which sucks because i love this ship so much (and will keep it)
see my problem (well not really a bad problem to have, but..) my problem is I have a Hammerhead in my game package, witch.. I mean when you crew it up is a lot of fun! But its really a single purpose ship, it can only go into a combat zone and burn the wings off those flys, or hornets.. rather. But the Polaris is a BIG ol ship, with far more uses than just simply being a fly swatter in space idk.. would be worth it, just to upgrade at this IAE to the Polaris? I like my game package otherwise so want to keep all the other ships, just dont really use the Hammerhead a whole bunch, although like I said it is a LOT of fun when you do take it out fully crewed. I would consider the Perseus but CIG for some strange reason wont allow us to downgrade our pledge ships.
To be clear I am not sure what would be the best course of action as the Polaris and Hammerhead are different ships in different classes. If you have enough players or crew to fill a Hammerhead, you should also be able to manage Polaris. The Polaris will give you a bit more option in the way of cargo and heavy torpedo's. The problem is we can only speculate its strength and usefulness in real combat scenarios. I want to think it will be a dangerous Destroyer of other capital class ships. Probably will work great in PvE missions.

@@zaktiifrigate is inferior to a destroyer in real life my man.
@@Bir-dy To back up the "It's a frigate" part. When CIG first announced it and talked about the Perseus they said it was a Frigate. Since then they have changed it to "Gunboat" to avoid confusion. But it's original purpose/role was that of a heavy gunboat Frigate. Cause you know. In the 2500's Warships were a lot smaller and the Perseus was considered a Capital back then
Say what you want but this design and this ship was supposed to be from Anvil it would have made a lot of sense given the design and would have added a big ship to the Anvil garage
Considering the style, definitely.
we saw big turrets in the squadron demo at citizen con, the velocity of the projectiles was so slow. that hitting anything smaller ships than a hammerhead will be a struggle. as you showed the angels are quite limited + i assume the transverse speed will also be aweful. wit the available information it seems the turrets will have a niche role. many targets will be to fast and on the other side targets will be too heavy... it feels like it will good for hunting hammerhead, itself and carracks...
Which sucks because i love this ship so much (and will keep it)
@@crimsonskies391
I have the exact same fear and feeling.
@@crimsonskies391 the Polaris only has size 6 guns...
see my problem (well not really a bad problem to have, but..) my problem is I have a Hammerhead in my game package, witch..
Corvet is the smallest "capital ship", a Frigate is bigger than a corvet, but smaller than a Destroyer... how come the Polaris is a Corvet and the Perseus a Frigate?
Skeleton crew of 6 players? That is the MAX crew my man. Min skeleton crew is 3.
For some reason it has been stated as 6. But you could make due with 3. I would guess 6 means the pilot, torpedo operator and 4 gunners.
I thought the torps are pilot controlled?
@@sanctred Not 100 % sure on this as we know rather little. But its got like 20 x size 5 torps so it would take away managing torps and flying the ship. As angles may not be ideal.
@ yeah I looked at the brochure after watch this and there is a torp room on the gunnery deck that I’m thinking will have a panel to remote shoot torps just like the Polaris one. I saw on other content creators video claims that it is pilot controlled. I guess I was hoping it was pilot controlled but now I’m thinking that is not likely.
@@sanctred I did the same :D
Yet it is rather unclear.
In combat scenario, the pilot should try and keep optimal angel for the main guns, so the torps might not be something he can focus with.
Never got why people have this debate about perseus vs polaris. Its not even close. Its like different weight classes in boxing. They are not ment to compete and if they did polaris would win 9/10 times. I think its just insane amounts of cope from perseus owners who want their ship to be more then it actually is😂
It is weird that many players want to compare the 2, I think they just dont realize the class and size difference.
more like a monitor class or a cutter but not a frigate
Maybe ramming other ships is what its meant to do?
Sounds more like hammerheads focus :)
Frigate???? uhm no lol shes light corvette at most.
You are correct good sir
This is why having artists design a war ship is a bad idea. They aren’t practical or well thought out .
I actually think the main focus is for the both guns to shoot not towards the front, but rather to the sides.
Not a fan of copy pasted assets from the Polaris
Aren't some from Idris as well.
