14:14 You cannot fuck up base building in Subnautica - if you don't like something you can simply deconstruct it and get 100 % of the ressources refunded.
Not sure why your Lifepod gets damaged. It can get damaged by creatures; swimming in gas clouds from gasopods for example, but usually that doesn't happen.
I strongly recommend to build multipurpose rooms - those are the real base rooms. Much of the essential base stuff (like reactors, water filtration machines and the like) cannot be built in the Moonpool.

It's one of the things I wish they'd change or add. A hardcore mode where the dangerous animals and warpers are actually dangerous and deadly. Now there's not one creature that can actually kill you in one go, and the so called "hunter seekers" are the most lethargic hunter creatures I've ever seen in a game. I've never actually felt threatened by them in the slightest after my very first encounter with them and noticing you can just outswim them. I wish there was a game mode where the warpers are actually fast and kill you in one swoop, then you'd actually have to fear them and avoid them.

The thermal plant doesn't necessarily have to be placed next to a thermal vent, it just operates based on water temperature. It provides 1.33 units of power per degree celsius above 25C, capping out at 100C, the main benefit being that it doesn't need any fuel and operates continuously. There's a thermometer in your vehicles.
I'd recommend using bio reactors with a growth bed next to them for your regular energy needs though --in that regard, things have an "energy density". feeding it fish is most efficient (the grav trap is great for that) but for plants you're gonna wanna use Speckled Rattlers (you found those on the first island) or the Gel Sacks you already have. Cut a plant with the knife to get plantable seeds from it. Plants grow within one day (it varies depending on size) and a full bed of Speckled Rattlers should last you several weeks at a time. Solar panels won't be useful once you get a water filter/scanner room and nuclear is just overkill unless you're making a "creative" base lol

Excellent to see someone appreciate the potential of the Seamoth Solar Charger Module! It’s a very powerful module and can eliminate the need for a Power Cell charger at all.

I was so happy when I saw that. It's one of the things I make as soon as I can. That and the Swim Charge Fins.
You never need to get any kind of charger for your base, if you don't want to. You just grab your seaglide, put an empty battery in it and swim around charging it, and you just shove empty powercells into your seamoth and ride around fairly near the surface for a while.
They're the most important upgrades in any playthrough, for me.

It's funny, at 1:07:16 you can see the stalker go for the metal salvage, _just_ as you turn away to surface for oxygen, so you miss seeing it by a couple of seconds. And then, when you come down, you can even see that the salvage is gone, and, but it's so far away and tiny that you didn't notice.
    1:46:21 - *“Why is it saying…? **__** Whuuhhhh!”*
The reaper is the _friendliest_ of all the leviathans. It just wants to give you a big ol' _hug_ and show you its great, big smile, real close and personal…
1:53:08 - *“I need ‘special equipment’, though. And I don't have that. Prawn suit drill arm fragment.”*
Talk about perfect timing. The _moment_ you talk about the required mining equipment for large deposits, you run across the first fragment you need for it.
1:58:51 - *“I love that I'm like, ‘Alright, we're gonna just pick a direction and just see what happens’ - Enters, like, fuggin' **_Fish Hell._** Okay. So that's Fish Hell over there."*

Eventually I had enough courage to just swim all the way home to my base..

Huh, I've never seen the lifepod get damaged before.
Ahh, the confusion of first starting base building. It's so fun watching that early total lack of understanding fade away as players progress through the game.
One thing you will quickly come to realize: you will ALWAYS need more titanium.
Watching you swim around manually everywhere, yet the poor air bladder remains completely unused even when you're surfacing for oxygen makes me sad =(
Finally some sort of proper storage! Not only is it good for storage space, but I feel like the ability to organize your rsources is even more useful.
Yeah, the game isn't super-clear on how to get stalker teeth. Bart's log is indeed giving a hint, but as you learned, it's easy to misunderstand/misinterpret what actually needs to be done.
Well, I've got to say this is my first time seeing someone set up a moonpool as the main room of their base. It actually works out surprisingly nicely, with all the space along the walls.
And now for the part everyone has been waiting for since the moment you started the game. Leviathan time! I almost wish you hadn't used that as the video thumbnail, so it would have come as more of a surprise.

Hey Mapo, I loved this episode! Some of the comments seem a little mean but you're seriously doing great compared to most playthroughs! I especially like how much you read the scanned stuff, most people don't bother and 1. never learn important information, and 2. lose out on the really cool lore and explanations for creatures that come with the scans. I'm taking Environmental Science right now so I'm particularly having fun reading their descriptions of the food web. Also, your first encounter with those Leviathans is probably my favorite I've seen (yours was refreshingly calm but still very cool), the notification about your seamoth so you go up to check and see it swimming away, and then your attempts to scan it was all so cool, and encountering the Warpers so soon and seeing them kind of fighting the Leviathan was amazing too. Overall, love the series, you're doing great!

  • @fllthdcrb
    @fllthdcrb ปีที่แล้ว

Gotta say, I don't see a lot of people _start_ a base with a moonpool. Probably because its blueprint is not readily available. Much more common to start with one of the hallway modules, which are pretty cramped, but can still accommodate a handful of lockers and other stuff. That said, the moonpool is a pretty decent starting point, considering the space it gives you in spite of most of its footprint being dedicated to... well, the pool.
To answer your question about how the thermal plant feeds its power to the base: It's common to think power sources have to be placed directly on the base, as you did with the solar panel. In fact, this is not the case. If a source is not attached to a base, it transmits its power wirelessly, using a laser. However, the range of power sources is very short (something like 20 meters). The geyser is, of course, a good place for a thermal plant, but if you get it as close as you'd want it to maximize its power, it may be too far from the base. There is a way to extend the range, but you don't have it yet.
The nice thing about the thermal plant is, it's the one source you can pretty much "set and forget", being both consistent and maintenance-free. All the others are either inconsistent (solar panels only charge in sunlight, of course) or require some actions to keep operating (the bioreactor must be refueled, for instance).
Oh wow. That strategy with the big sea monster (I know you've seen the name, but maybe you haven't actually looked at it yet??). I don't think that was very smart. It came close to destroying your Seamoth. It does let go on its own, but there's no guarantee the Seamoth will survive until then, if it's already damaged, nor that it won't somehow take more damage before you can get back in.
1:56:52 The scanning progress is per individual, which means you have to completely scan a single individual of a species. I think the problem with the Warpers was, you were scanning several of them.
