Hey Mapo, this is really off topic but i wanted to tell you there is a pretty good looking VR mod for Outer Wilds somewhere online. It would be a great way to re-experience the game and see the true scale of everything. (If you have a VR headset of course)
@@hunmg3769 I just played and finished that game for the first time last night, and ngl was extremely disappointed. Maybe VR would have helped on a first run for me.
Mapo stuffing everything in the moonpool instead of making a proper base gives the same vibe as a student living in his parents' garage. It has some kind of charm to it I gotta say.
My bases were just just moonpools, and a bunch of multipurpose rooms for big alien containments and water filtration machines (and reinforcements for bases not on the surface). I built 4 bases this way.
The writing regarding the enforcement platform is genius. You either arrive early and explore and are plagued with the knowledge that the Sunbeam is doomed and you can't warn them, or you watch them get shot down, and are ridden with guilt thinking maybe you could have saved them only to find out there was never anything you could do to save them.
One of the things I really like about Mapo is how infectious his curiosity is. He makes me go "hmm, yes, now that you mention it, I wonder about that too".
@@LuckbeaSladey Oh, then you actually have a while to go before you encounter almost the exact phrase you commented. The Last Continent. I think it’s somewhere around the late twenties. Yeah, they are very interesting. But uh, you mean a creature other than a Reefback? Those actually fit that description better than the Sea Treaders, which will at least attack if you get in their way.

Where will it all lead? =) I really like the worldbuilding about the larger galaxy you get while exploring the Aurora and also how it justifies the gameplay elements, like the search for the Degasi meaning the Aurora was stocked with stuff for exploring a marine planet. Not to mention the dark humor of the glimpses we get into the corporate hellscape that is Alterra. Your cavalier treatment of your seamoth makes me wonder how long it'll be until you wait too long on repairs and it gets destroyed. Ooh, you thought to try a self-scan! Normally, there's a pda message that pops up fairly early on prompting you to do one (letting you learn you're infected sooner than you did), but either the flagging went wrong and it never happened, or it managed to overlap another message so you missed it. Something MYSTERIOUS happened! I've been waiting for your reaction to that. You stumbled on the sea treaders! One of the most easily-missable neat environmental things in the game. This game is so incredibly atmospheric. Esp loved the last 20min or so when you're hunting for that lifepod (12?). The water was dark and endless above and below, one of the many times in the game where it's like swimming thru a void. Hearing vast rumbling calls of the reefbacks. The bottom, when visible, sloping away to blacker depths beneath. The music. Just incredible. Makes me want to boot up my old save. Absolutely loathe bonesharks. Be wary of them they will attack you relentlessly esp when they're in packs and destroy your seamoth. Getting that defense upgrade is so useful for scaring them off. Great vid as always well done for finding the sea treaders.
Fire extinguisher advice: always aim at the base of the fire, and keep applying the extinguisher until it's absolutely extinguished. This applies to real life just as much as it does to Subnautica.
I hope you expand your base before you fill all the walls of your Moonpool. You won’t be able to attach any corridors if you have things on the walls. I ran into this myself when trying to attach more base parts

You want to permanently delete some items, build the trash can. Anything you put in it will be deleted. I would also suggest you check the ocean bottom and scan things. I have noticed you have passed up a lot of things especially around the ship. Not to mention the entirety of the island with the enforcement platform.
What a great birthday gift, an episode of Mapo playing Subnautica! So glad to see you are enjoying one of my favorite games. Thanks for the awesome content man, love it 😎
Glad you seem to be doing better! You made some really cool discoveries today. It's always fun hearing you theorize about what is going on in this world, great episode as usual!
You know, the butt of the ship is the bottom. I know this because there's a great line in one of the Shakespeare plays, maybe Richard the Third, one of the big war ones anyway, where he talks about them drawing their butts through the water. Only it doesn't exactly seem clear to the modern eye that it's the butts of the ships he's talking about, and might read as if the soldiers are drawing their butts through the water.
1:55:00 When I saw the proposed Degasi habitat 1km SW of Aurora, I thought, well, that's convenient, lifepod 7 was exactly at that spot. I see you did not make that connection. LUL
Yeah I don’t understand it either. Like I get it you don’t want to be AT the rear of the ship because reapers, but you can do this funny cheat code where if the stern of the ship is northeast relative to you, that means you are southwest relative the the stern. I would expect this to be basic navigation knowledge but no one seems to realize that
Catching up to this bc life caught up to me, I am so relieved you picked up the Keep Calm kitty poster. Ryley needs the encouragement. You've impressed me with your choices so far. Can't wait to see the rest
Love the playthrough Mapo, hope you are enjoying discovering your way through the game. Thanks for playing it your own way and taking your time to find a way to play that works for yourself even if it's an overwhelming change of pace :)
I've been waiting for this! Exploring the quarantine enforcement platform is one of my favorite sequences in the game, especially the moment when you find out the planet is under quarantine and that you are infected. It's a big "oh shit" moment where the scope of the game expands to be larger than initially thought. From my anecdotal experience of people's reactions to the Degasi story, people tend to favor Marguerit in her feud with Paul and kind of write him off. The way I see it is that both of them are flawed people, and both have strong points when it comes to what they should do (have done). Both of them sitting in their more extreme positions lets us better see Bart and his more measured and reasonable approach. and of course the legendary ham and cheese radio message at the end
1:05:36 Any potential partner being overly aggressive in pursuit might just share more commonalities with the Bleeder than would make for a healthy relationship (parasite?).
:3 this is why subnautica is one of the best of the genre, you are free to mess around but there is an interesting story that you can follow too, compared to something like minecraft that has no real structured story to pull you forward so its more a free builder but that struggles to maintain my interest for a good length of time without friends to mess around with
Sailors use bow and stern for front and back because if you’re told to go to the front of the ship, it’s because they want you to look forwards in the direction of travel. However your ship is not always moving in the direction it is facing thanks to currents etc so “front” means the edge of the ship that is most forward in the direction of travel, which can be either the bow or the stern or sometimes somewhere along the side - bow and stern however are fixed and unchanging. How this would be relevant to a spaceship is unclear!! Maybe “space currents” or something.
well, there are no cardinal directions in space and the way your ship is facing is irrelevant to your direction of travel in a zero gravity vacuum (when the engines are off), so it does make sense
Haha, since Mapo was feeling well enough to upload again, i realy was hoping for a new subnautica episode. Wben i saw it was up, i actualy did physicly yell of joy only to think "uff, thats starving for content." Only a few seconds later x)
Enjoy watching your playthrough, I've been through the game several times but it is fun to revisit it... I won't be a spoiler you're doing fine... The drive to go deeper into the planet only grows worse the deeper you go.. Keep up the good work
It's never bad to have an extra Seamoth Depth module, in case any unforeseen events of the Seamoth being destroyed. I'd definitely keep it if I were you, or just pay more attention to the Seamoth health :P
@@bismarckimperia8781 I didn't even have to get cocky, just careless enough to leave my seamoth in reach of bonesharks that smashed it to pieces while I was swimming around gathering resources. I remember not being able to find it and then seeing that it wasn't there in my Signals list either. Luckily I had saved not too long prior to that.
@@rohitchaoji Mine was gangbanged by Bone Sharks, just like Mapo but i was too busy trying to see Fragments and rare stuff near the sea bed. Then the Warper and Elec Eel came by and sent me back home while my Seamoth shattered during my Death. The Second time was when my Cyclops got sent to the Shadow Realm near the Degasi crevice when i was lowering it by the Reaper and my Seamoth scratched the walls multiple times before exploding to tiny pieces. I was doing my first Deep Dive Cyclops manuever and i really tried to outrun the Reaper and burnt Gas and Hull intergrity resulting to my Cyclops' Death.
Great playthrough, and a good episode - always fun to watch players react to the big reveals in this game :) It's so well made :) I'm also not into survival games per se, but this one is just special.
Oh, man, the posters have built-in lighting elements now! Now I need to go back and see if mine automatically upgraded, or if I need to take them down and replace them!
If you’re way out somewhere and find something interesting, and you haven’t brought a beacon to mark the location, you can still look at your Lifepod and take a reciprocal bearing and distance, note your depth and find your way back (with a Beacon). 🙏
I don't think I have ever run into that particular tunnel system before! I have been to the deep reefs of course and gone to the Sea Treader's Path, but never found that cave connection.
If someday you wonder about trying another survival game, may I recommend Darkwood? It's a hidden gem with a hell of a plot. Warning tho, it's on the quite spooky side. I find it very intriguing because it is inspired in certain folkloric themes/stories that most people have never even heard of. There are no easily predictable werewolves, vampires, zombie or other classic cryptids/monsters. So it really, really nails the "fear of the unknown" in my checklist, and figuring out what is actually going on at any time always had me embarking in a curious yet shocking journey. Highly recommend it, it's on my personal faves list just alongside Subnautica.
I would really love to see you play The Forest and Sons of the Forest mate. Especially since you're new to the genre - The Forest introduced me to the genre, such a great game. And the sequel is just as good even though it's still in early access. And of course another one is Valheim. Also early access, but so, so good!
4:57 Yeeah, I'm not sure if it's advisable in this game to poke your nose into random walls that seem glitchy... There's a couple spots where you can bump into and accidentally despawn all the water, for example :D
Damn things got nuclear and I'm waking up, to ash and dust. I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust, I'm breathing in; the chemicals. I'm radioactiv- oh its more so fungal? ah I'm fungicidal, fungicial~
Oh no he missed the thing mapo you may want to revisit the prawn bay in another episode and also I hope you build your base abit more but my big tip would be to build all the vehicles
55:05 You can fit all 4 "CarryAll" bags inside a single cargo modification of the Seamoth. | . Once "deployed", each bag can contain 9 single-space items. -> Using a Propulsion Canon, you can move the bag with all if its contents as you walk/swim (slowly). . If you wear the self-recharging fins you do not move slower (because the max speed is already "capped" by using the Propulsor continously), but it does not lose charge either. | The best strategy is to fill each bag inside a cave & move it to the point were a seamoth/prawn can reach, one at a time (leaving them together with a beacon to not lose them). -> Later you can bring a Seamoth with 3 or 4 cargo mods (one of them reserved to house all 4 empty carrybags).
Furthermore: If you have line-of-sight with the surface (sea level); you can place floaters on each of the full carrybags to bring them up (effectively trading 5 spaces for each [bag+floater] into 9 spaces inside the bag).
The ironic thing about rushing home to grab some water and barely avoiding taking damage from total dehydration is, you could have cooked the fish you had in your inventory with the thermal blade (especially ironic since you mentioned doing exactly that earlier). Don't you know cooked fish give you a bit of water instead of taking it away? Not a huge amount, but at least enough to gain more of a safety margin. You can also eat things like gel sacks and creepvine, which are minimally nutritious and hydrating, but will do in an emergency.

Mapo: 1 kilometer south-ish from a random spot where you can see the butt of the ship.
Both of them sitting in their more extreme positions lets us better see Bart and his more measured and reasonable approach.
and of course the legendary ham and cheese radio message at the end
there IS a path in the pool in the Prawn bay that goes further into the ship, but it's just a shortcut, you can go around the long way.
1:05:36 Any potential partner being overly aggressive in pursuit might just share more commonalities with the Bleeder than would make for a healthy relationship (parasite?).
1:05:05 Then its a good thing that the Bleeders are not bugs^^. They are more like leeches.
:3 this is why subnautica is one of the best of the genre, you are free to mess around but there is an interesting story that you can follow too, compared to something like minecraft that has no real structured story to pull you forward so its more a free builder but that struggles to maintain my interest for a good length of time without friends to mess around with
That alien facility was giving me the strongest Mass Effect Andromeda vault vibes, super cool area.
Definitely will continue watching you, dude. These videos won me over.
Fantastic ending to this episode.
“Whenever the music hits I feel like it needs to be louder” ah yes, the dragon age effect 😂😂
10:50 I love how Mapo thinks.
1:42:49 THAT WAS FUCKING SCARY 😮
38:15 I love how you point out repairing under water.
How about drinking water while under water :D
This. I cried when my Seamoth died, twice with full upgrades just because i became cocky.
Mapo..Perimeter defense system for the Lady Moth.
21:25 lmao. That thalassophobia finally kicking in.
If you can hear it, the reaper can see you. Oh ya, wizard fish, Hunting/analyzing....😂
Great playthrough, and a good episode - always fun to watch players react to the big reveals in this game :) It's so well made :)
I'm also not into survival games per se, but this one is just special.
Oh, man, the posters have built-in lighting elements now! Now I need to go back and see if mine automatically upgraded, or if I need to take them down and replace them!
1:03:42 I thought you were going to miss this area. I'm glad you went back.
Been waiting days for this! Finally!
You can feed a bone shark a peeper. He will still bite. But it's cool to do. Also, a stalker he will be friends for a short while.
This was the funniest/best video I've ever seen from you. Really well done! Lol
If you’re way out somewhere and find something interesting, and you haven’t brought a beacon to mark the location, you can still look at your Lifepod and take a reciprocal bearing and distance, note your depth and find your way back (with a Beacon). 🙏
The music is not buggy you are playing with paused while in PDA :D
Wonderful seeing you explore more!
I think you can use the strider's alien poop for fuel somehow lol, for power reasons
I don't think I have ever run into that particular tunnel system before! I have been to the deep reefs of course and gone to the Sea Treader's Path, but never found that cave connection.
I love the term wizard fish makes them seem cooler somehow
4:55 man literally teleported into halo CE hahahaha.
Was watching your Ancient Gods part 2 episode just now and once I finished I went back to my feed and saw this popped up 1 minute ago, good timing :p
When extinguishing fires, if you don't fully remove them they flare up again.
You get so amazed that the aliens are hunting you. Just you wait.
Stargate mentioned, I'm a happy man 🥲
LOL that seamoth collision at 1:31:00
I would really love to see you play The Forest and Sons of the Forest mate. Especially since you're new to the genre - The Forest introduced me to the genre, such a great game. And the sequel is just as good even though it's still in early access. And of course another one is Valheim. Also early access, but so, so good!
'Oh its just the sun. I was like what is this light source' - me after finishing subnautica
4:57 Yeeah, I'm not sure if it's advisable in this game to poke your nose into random walls that seem glitchy... There's a couple spots where you can bump into and accidentally despawn all the water, for example :D
"I hate bugs more than anything in this world"
Well now that you've popped your survival game cherry, BOY do I have the game for you.
Is it grounded by any chance? 😂
19:07 "I don't know why I did that"
*Immediately does it again*
21:30 "Robert, it goes DOWN"
Damn things got nuclear and I'm waking up, to ash and dust. I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust, I'm breathing in; the chemicals. I'm radioactiv- oh its more so fungal? ah I'm fungicidal, fungicial~
There's more on that island to discover. What are those lights? That's all I gonna say.
As always, wishing you health and wellbeing! I’m so grateful for you and your videos, feels like hanging out with the coolest big brother ever 💜
Today on subnautica, mapo explores tge B.F.G 10000
1:04:58 "i hate bugs more than anything in this world"
(c) mapo, after playing the entirety of hollow knight
Oh no he missed the thing mapo you may want to revisit the prawn bay in another episode and also I hope you build your base abit more but my big tip would be to build all the vehicles
2:12:16 Great Video Mapo! I loved it. That last lifepod is kinda hard to find, but I felt you were close to it a few times.
stern, port, starboard, bow is pretty common knowledge
|
|
Or he could've eaten the bulb bush sample which IIRC was right there in his Seamoth's storage cubby.
Relatively early game access to an alien poo farm is always handy...
😜
