@jakobwest4811 I recommend setting goals that apply to real-life situations and spend your building sessions addressing those goals in little bites at a time. Plus, these are time-lapse videos; I can imagine that when we see a small time-lapse, Phil spent upwards of hours (on cam AND off cam) getting it the way he wants it ❤
I think there is a big opportunity for devs that can get away from the traditional model of balancing housing, industry, and commercial zones. I think people want more realistic and cool looking cities over what we have now.
@@CityPlannerPlays With the highway and road builder, you can make a custom 6 lane highway to preserve capacity and have only one bridge span. One wider bridge span is more realsitic and cheaper than two bridge spans. You can add a median or something in the middle so there is some seperation.

Honestly, I'm surprised the triangular plot to the side of the mall wasn't used for the retention pond - too small for any real development, but ideal for a "water feature" with one of those aerator fountains...
I suggest to add a tram line that goes to this mall area. Would be ideal since this would be bringing in ridership and most of the trackage is already there, with a dedicated right of way so traffic won’t be an issue.
I don't know how feasible it is with CS2 assets but at this scale something that might be added would be a National Guard post or even a small Army base. Placing one in Magnolia County would mean that residents who signed up wouldn't have to relocate and could stay near family during their weekends up. It might be an interesting challenge for you. It could be as big as Fort McCoy or it could just be a small campus with an admin building, vehicle park and parade ground. It could be tucked into the outskirts of an existing town or be out in the rural areas and become a new town all its own. Worth thinking about.
Your skill at taking a game and making it feel like a realistic city continues to amaze me as it has for years now! I'd like to suggest Russet Fields as the name for the residential area behind the SPDS complex - just maybe a way to lure that anchor retailer to the site. Who knows - maybe they did grow potatoes there at one point.
I always enjoy watching your videos, and love the city you're building here. I do wonder, though, at your eagerness to eliminate the old highway right of way and similar things when you put in new infrastructure. In many cases, these old roads would not be wiped away. They'd remain as local roads, or even abandoned properties that become pathways. This sort of pieces of history are a big part of our cities' character.
I think you make a very, very good point here. I think I probably should have saved that bridge as a pedestrian bridge at a minimum. I'll try to be a bit more thoughtful about that in the coming videos, especially since we're going to be diving into redevelopment a lot coming up.
@@CityPlannerPlays We’ve got a couple of them here in Minnesota like in Stillwater where they replaced a car bridge and a road into a pedestrian path or Old cedar Ave that was replaced by the current one that is a Highway and the old bridge became a pedestrian bridge and trail along the Minnesota river
The railroad commission in every state would never allow a double disconnect without having a temporary bridge out in place. They have more power over their rails than most governments do
During city tours maybe having a few shots at night time would be good. You go to the effort of adding lights and yet we don't get to see that. Cool video as always.
I think you should name the new neighborhood of BYOB homes "Granny Flats", for the owner of the land the shopping center is built on. Old lady Flats was one of the first folk to live in the region, and lived into her nineties, known affectionately as "Granny Flats" by all her neighbors. So the area has been known as "Granny Flats" for ages. It's also a nod to the "Granny Flats" in your music. I hope you use it.
I think "Needs Name 2" could be "Hill Valley" and "Needs Name 1" could be "Twin Pines". Besides the reference, I think it would fit by being next to the large nature park hill.
What would be amazing to see is some sort of DOT or public works depot where they keep old or stockpiled vehicles and equipment. This would really help add to the progressive storyline of the full introduction of the DOT and public roadworks system and repairs.
I’m not sure why but those signs/billboards for the shopping mall made that build so much better even though it’s something so small. it really looks like it just came straight out of real life haha
i just want to say the intros you do with the videos adding stories is like watching people play the isle and turn it into a nature documentary and i love it. keep up the work it really build character to the world.

I am excited to know that 'extending public transit' is pretty much gonna be a semi-regular segment of many episodes. those are always my favorite episodes, so the prospect of it being a small part of most episodes sounds great!
Honestly never thought I would get into or even start enjoying the visual style of CS2. And then it happened in an episode about strip malls of all things. There is some magic going on here.
I would suggest making bus only lanes for drop off and pick up in the space left in front of the flagship shopping center so that riders would not have to cross the busy arterial road and buses would not have to stop on them causing traffic delays! Awesome building as always!
In the beginning I was quite skeptical how this area would turn out but after the detailing I fell in love with the area. I think “Wakefield Park” would be a nice choice to name area two. I believe it really suits to the area with the soccer field and also points out the flat landscape. 😊
For the district with the Spds Shopping Centre my name suggestions are either: Spud Springs or Yukon Valley from the potato Yukon Gold which could have been farmed here before it was bought by Spds to build their centre
I think it would also make sense to place a round-about at the market entrance. Dense traffic is to be expected so you would want to keep it moving ... i guess ^^. I also love the "editor-forshaddowing", gets me every time
Great stuff as usual. It would be cool to see a sprawling apartment complex near the big box store. It would provide more customers and homes for the Swithcon workers

I think you should consider replacing a couple of the motels with a 4-5 story semi-luxury hotel. I've seen a lot of these near Costcos and these big plazas, usually they are used for business events etc. I feel like it would add a nice charm to the place.
Such a fun build! I didn't have the road builder tool, definitelly downloaded it just now to add some fun. I like how you were mixing the residential types in the neighborhood. Also, your merch store needs a complete range of products labelled "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good" in big letters, and then in small letters, "unlike me..." I need it too!

Hey Phil! I recommend “Golden Knee” for the residential behind the shopping center, both as a callback to potatoes and the fact it kinda looks like a 55+ community. Additionally, at some point maybe an episode around power? Maybe Magnolia gets a grant for a wind farm or whatever, and you could take a look at demand and potential bottlenecks
For the town names - the build hasn't had any French names, though French explorers likely would have been the first through here. I'd suggest naming one of the towns LaSalle, after the explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle; Cavelier could be an alternate as well.
I've been watching your series on Verde Beach for weeks now (while waiting for new MC videos) and I always forget how smoother the terrain tools are in CS2 compared to the first game. It's always a whiplash to see you not struggling with grading for once lmao.
Phil, I think the narrow neighbourhood near the clinic should be named Shady Grove, canonically a reference to the lush trees, but also your description if Paradise River LLC as "shady". Love your videos!
I was legit thinking about this type of build the other day. In CS1 we had the Shopping Malls district style and some other dedicated mall/shopping center/big box store assets...this is great!
For 'Needs Name Two', aka the BYOH district, because it's running next to the water, I'd suggest 'Reed Quarter', with the street running alongside it renamed to 'Reed Street'. I really like the vibe of this district though, despite me not sold on it at first. The football field however, I'm not happy with yet. Assuming there's a football club that plays there, it would need more supporting infrastructure like a training pitch, some kiosks for match day, a canteen, parking places, and a few other things that slip my mind right now. Point being, I don't know if Reed Quarter is the best place for this football field, since it doesn't really have the space for it. What might be a fun idea for later is to give each city and town their own football club, and create an amateur league (so that big stadiums aren't required) - which Sheila Johnson will then inevitably ruin again, but that's life.
you got a big strip mall commercial right in frond of the big factory too, they would probably not be happy with all that new commercial and not be profitable and go out of business, it can be replace with some medium density housing there
Hi, before anything, I'm new to the channel, and from what I've seen, woooow! Congrats on all your videos. Now, at minute 16:08 in the street mod, there are two sound barriers. In Europe, we need to have sound barriers around houses or complexes when they are near a highway, just for the sake of realism ;) I hope to see that in your next videos if possible
the industrial parks around me have put a huge focus on landscaping as well, at the edges they've done berms 10-15 feet tall and then cover them in smaller like pine trees, i think its a mixture of not looking so 'dirty industrial' like you said but also helps keep the noise and light they have associated with them more contained to keep the neighboring areas a little more peaceful. Also hides what an indiustrial complex just typically has sitting about too in their yards, less seeing eyes for theft
Lovely video Phil and great to catch up on the flight home. I love the new shopping centre and housing district. Shame you weren't able to keep the old highway bridge. as it could show what used to run though the area. Making it a pedestrian walkway to a wildlife area on the opposite side. Or future plans for the trams to go to the airport. Know a bridge already built over the river, gives them a good excuse to make an expansion to the airport cheaper than building new. Keep the amazing videos coming.
Nice expansion there CPP! Smooth terrain work... for new bridges... which coincidentally is an area near me's name: Newbridge. Although something like Johnsonville could make the running I guess. You've also got me pondering over an MBTA custom bus... maybe.
There's an excellent mod by Qoushik in Paradox Mods called Single Family Residential that switches the residential zoning type (EU, NA, beachfront, etc) for you and saves time. Might be worth the add for bring your own builder type neighborhoods in the future.
One of the new residential areas could be named after my home town of Kyabram, Australia. Kyabram is an Australian indigenous word for "thick forest" and the way you added trees in around that area makes it feel like that's exactly what it is
I do love having the dog park in the area, but it would probably be best next to the cheap Motels out front. That way those residence have a place to take their pets , and locals can use the big box stores parking to get there.
I think it also makes sense to add a kids play area near the shopping center. Just so if a family comes to shopping with their kids and the kids are bored, they can chill in the play area until their parents finish shopping
Phil, your quick mastery of the game keeps surprising me but in a good way. For Needs Name 1, I suggest Brook Hollow due to its vicinity to water and lack of density. I imagine it's quite the sleepy place to live.
I'm sure it's been mentioned a million times in the comments already, but Plop the Growables Mod has a option (in the options menu) to automatically lock all plopped assets. Very helpful to maintain the look of plopped areas!
Hey CPP! This is just a thought but, when it comes to the residential areas you put in this time. I would make it low-rent housing instead of single family homes because of the proximity to highways and the noise. Maybe row-homes or medium density residential would be more appropriate for this area. 🧐☺️
Paradise River and Privateers Folly would be good names I think. Way back in the day a Privateer's navigation error led him to ground near the bank of the river.
you could turn the intersection you struggled with at 10:20 into a roundabout... and because the one road is 4 lanes, some slip lanes may work as a nice addition
Honestly I'd love to have a 1 min or so segment at the end of the video going over the numbers that changed since the last episode....

Phil, I think the narrow neighbourhood near the clinic should be named Shady Grove, canonically a reference to the lush trees, but also your description if Paradise River LLC as "shady". Love your videos!
"Shady" definitely fits some of the local property developers, yeah.
Yesss, big box retail. This is the content that I've been dreaming of. (Well, this and more rural expansion)
I was legit thinking about this type of build the other day. In CS1 we had the Shopping Malls district style and some other dedicated mall/shopping center/big box store assets...this is great!
Just wanna say, I'm absolutely loving the new thumbnail style!
10:05 why’s it feel like there is one of these montages in every single MC video lately 😂😂
Always love watching these videos!
Needs name 1 could be called “Oak bluff”
the industrial parks around me have put a huge focus on landscaping as well, at the edges they've done berms 10-15 feet tall and then cover them in smaller like pine trees, i think its a mixture of not looking so 'dirty industrial' like you said but also helps keep the noise and light they have associated with them more contained to keep the neighboring areas a little more peaceful.
You've also got me pondering over an MBTA custom bus... maybe.
Thank you, Tigon! You know, if I add the name Newbridge, I'm going to have to add a Newbridge.... like one that I should have used in this one 🙃
2:16 *flashbacks to the Magnolia County Forest Fire*
There's an excellent mod by Qoushik in Paradox Mods called Single Family Residential that switches the residential zoning type (EU, NA, beachfront, etc) for you and saves time. Might be worth the add for bring your own builder type neighborhoods in the future.
the intro felt like a work meeting. I even sat up and started to pay close attention lol
Liked for the Respect the Topography hoodie dance, stayed for the excellent storytelling and gameplay
Phil with his extra detailing hat on for this video. Lovin' it ♥
Dude that Strip Mall looks so good
It would definitely be so cool to see a Magnolia city land use map using GIS from the stream. The city keeps getting bigger and better.
Sticking with the theme of "Lakeview" and "Hillview," I believe one of the neighbourhoods should be called Riverview!
I think it also makes sense to add a kids play area near the shopping center. Just so if a family comes to shopping with their kids and the kids are bored, they can chill in the play area until their parents finish shopping
Interestingly enough, I was going to add one, but the Marketplace has one built into it!
Phil, your quick mastery of the game keeps surprising me but in a good way.
For Needs Name 1, I suggest Brook Hollow due to its vicinity to water and lack of density. I imagine it's quite the sleepy place to live.
I love the lore to this city in the beginning
I really like when CPP brings in bits that tie in to real world phenomenon. I probably wouldn't have known about Dark Store lawsuits otherwise.
How effortless you make it always amazes me!
The SuDS pond looks great!
Man i love this! I can picture these big box spots perfectly 😂
The New Master Planned Track also makes me very happy. It’s so groovy! I always wondered, do you produce Master Planned Music yourself?
you could turn the intersection you struggled with at 10:20 into a roundabout... and because the one road is 4 lanes, some slip lanes may work as a nice addition
