We were brought up on Club Racing and we thought you might enjoy this
Drive out of the car park and race round the oval. No need for a helmet. Highlights include a convertible Mustang, Barry Lee in a Rolls and a Chevy hitting the fence.
Ipswich Raceway: Production Car Race 1975- British Club Racing
#Ipswich Raceway
Brilliant. Racing a convertible without helmet or a cage. Good stuff.
And it’s a mustang with the handling of canoe 😂
or even a seat belt!.
worse
@@neilvenners3309 A nine year old Mustang, probably wallowing around on OE shocks and 4 wheel drum brakes. The run of the mill street Mustangs were pretty useless but thanks to the performance aftermarket it didn't take much to make them worthy.
❤Men 🎉😊
The fun we had before health and safety was invented

@@zentecgarage The sheer diversity of cars competing back then made racing more exciting than today
Nonsense!!! Plenty of safety precautions…. They have an ice cream van
they do still do spectator racing, search it on here. Not in UK obviously because apparently we need wrapping in cotton wool !!!
Better than a whole season of f1
Much much better
Every corner a first corner in F1. That’s what made oval racing popular! No crying because of the safety car coming out.
What ace footage, thanks for putting it up 👍😎

i know, its good stuff
I can only imagine how shit the tyres were back then too!!
Brilliant driving what a treat to see what are now rare classics chucked around 😎

If this was F1 we would have had 27 Virtual safety cars, 19 Safety cars, and 12 Red Flags
😂😂😂 yeah but this is racing
Rather see this than yellow and red flags.
very much so
Also a dickhead Masi
And after all that...they might have started!
That was fun as hell to watch. That Rolls Royce was a beast compared to the other cars.
It was also only 3 years old!!!

That's made my day.
Being an Ipswich boy born in 1966 I was lucky enough to witness multiple production car races at Foxhall.
This wonderful video has jogged my memory.
Thanks so much.
I also recall they mixed it up one day with a timed reversing lap , some poor bugger stuffed a lovely old MKI Cavalier into the fence.
That red and white fence, back in the day us kids would lean up against it! One time a Ford corsair (banger, mouldy old dough) literally mounted it and came half over, us kids ran off in excitement.
Our parents all laughed. These days....
wow
I had a cortina the same as the pace car! Daytona yellow, loved it👍👍👍
My grandpa had that 1965 chevy.
Crazy expensive today.
Greetings from Finland 🎉
Hi Finland
I remember getting off the Bus, walking to my Dad's house along Foxhall Road and us going to Foxhall Stadium for Bangers and the Demolition Derby. Up the hill past the old "hospital", then through the woods into the Track. Happy days alright.
Nice
Brilliant. I was wondering where it was in ipswich!! Wish was still there doing this

Bashing the living daylights out of cars, some worth a tidy sum today like the blue Escort, and the Celica.
all of them
Simple and Fun long gone are them days 👍
Foxhall Stadium is within walking distance from my Dad's house. Great place to watch even today.
I like the light blue RS2000 Escort on the track in that Vid!. going to Bangers or Demolition Derbys used to be a great treat out on a Saturday night.

What an incredible piece of automotive history! Thanks for putting it up. Brings back memories of my old man taking me as a child to Matcham's Raceway near Ringwood back in the 70's. Superb!!!!
me too
Thanks so much didn’t know we did this! Brilliant! No insurance no safety at all epic!
Absolutly we used to call it, nick it on a Friday, race it on a Saturday
What memories! was there in the early 70's, Banger races, Ipswich Witches with John Louis, I remember "A Walk in the black forest" being played over the loud speakers.
Super cool mate thanks for showing and some more please
More to come!
Brilliant ! Remember watching similar race at Yarmouth stadium with my father . A young lad wrote off his father’s brand new Capri . Good ole days of short circuit racing .
We went to Yarmouth on holiday in the 80s, and went to the banger racing one night. Fantastic time we all had.
It's a perfect cross section of what the majority of the British public were driving back in the mid seventies - Audis, BMWs and Mercedes' are conspicuous by their total absence.

Used to love the enthusiasts in the "Run what you brung" races and timed laps at Cross in Hand raceway. Many a nice car joined the Cross in Hand turnover team. I often wondered how they got home afterwards.

7 years before I was born and the best bit is is these old tracks then are almost exactly the same now apart from floodlights and the advertising differences and occasional stand lifts. Gerat stuff.
That Mustangs like a rolling chicane. Never saw this kind of racing but loved to see the F1 stock cars at Belle Vue.
Great stuff. When britain was free
What a wonderful piece of bonkers 70's nostalgia. The roller! 😂
I absolutely loved going there in the 70's & 80's Barry Lee era

Polley was THE driver.
I saw the Blue RS 2000 doing production car trial regularly at Tonham Raceway, Dave Coyne used to do production car trials there too he was quick and impressive to watch.
fantastic stuff, wonderful classic cars(nowadays of course) and great racing, love how he turned that Celica round!

It certainly was
Fantastic!! I just got more laughs from this than anything I've seen this year. That Mustang was probably a 289 and they're pretty lively; I've driven one myself. Minis just couldn't quite make it past. Awesome!!!! Thanks 😂😂😁

Mad to think most of those cars would have only been a couple of years old at the time. Imagine the comparison today, a five year old Rolls Royce and Mustang racing against 2021 Mini's and RS Focus's around a banger track, it would never happen.
shame

Yes, cars seemed to become ‘bangers’ very much more quickly in those days.
My very first car, aged 19 in 1982, was a 1974 BMW 2002tii. By 1982 at only 8 years old it was already considered a old banger that I bought for £825 !
@@derin111 Yep. Owned a 7 year old Morris Marina that was a complete rust bucket but saying that never let me down in the 6 years I had it. Went to the big highway in the sky via "Whip Street Motors" because of the rust ..... oh and the fact I ran it into the back of a Citroen Visa!
How good is that. Wish stuff like this was still running.
Have been thinking the same

Magic

Swinging safari playing in the background!

Awesome! Try doing this with today's cars... They would throw a wobbley and shut down

Thanks
thanks for the memory the only demotion derby track i ever went to as boy, and we overlooked
from the Hill, either couldn't get in or no money to pay
Done that as well
Jesus christ. No helmets, no rollcages (probably no harnesses) and in a convertable! Insane stuff.
Don't need any of that nonsense when God is your co-driver 😂😂
The Toyota blew it. Fantastic to watch. Thanks for the upload!
Thanks
Many of those cars would be worth a fortune these days!
Great days, In a production car race at Arlington, lurked banger driver Gordon Coul in an Austin Westminster 😁 He accidently took the side out of a red Porsche, later going on to the infield, where some new Skodas were being exhibited and hit one full on in the front, Rumour has it he was set up by other banger drivers as a bet to do it 🤣

Possibly not even a seat belt 🙀
When most men had balls now most of them are confused about what gender they identify as.
Good old days when you could name every car on the track.
Imagine trying that now.
Now they all look the same
Damn risky racing with most of the cars which are racing there were still new on sale and quite on the price. Like the Celica and the Rolls
good days
Ah wind in your hear and flies in your teeth - those were the days. Now were wrapped in airbags and crumple zones.
Check the roller out .. brilliant
👍
Has anyone let Martin Brundle know that his dad is on this video?? 😎
No, good idea though
Remember when F1 was qualify for the grid and you’re in. No restrictions.

well spotted
