Creality K1 Max Review: The 3D Printer of My Dreams Finally Exists

  • The Creality K1 Max is a large format, high speed, reliable CoreXY 3D printer with a bevy of advanced features, such as a remote monitoring webcam, LiDAR sensor for accurate flow rate control, and AI anomaly detection. Printing within a glass enclosure, it maintains temperatures and provides safety from little hands. The overall experience is even more satisfying thanks to the easy-to-use software, which allows you to send print jobs over the network reliably and check in through the webcam.
    The only thing the K1 Max is lacking is dual-color or multi-material printing.

    Bravo! My thoughts are the same. The K1 Max has been flawless and the fact that I can get large prints done in 5 hours whereas my legacy machines would take 18 hours is essential time saving for my business and workflow. Its performance has elevated this machine the tip of the spear of all of my 3D printers-the others don’t get much use unless I need something larger than the 300x300 bed. It is so good that I can see purchasing at least two more in the future and replacing all of my legacy machines with these.

      As someone who owns both the K1 Max and X1 Carbon, each have things that make you go WOW and each has their drawbacks. I will say this the X1 Carbon is slightly more reliable with it's AI and Lidar catching defects, but both are absolutely incredible especially if you plan to venture beyond PLA into ABS and ASA. They just work and they produce incredible quality and ease of use. I would recommend either to absolutely anyone who wants to focus on printing and not focus on fixing the printer.

      @@keepinitreel15 Thanks for the comment, I was literally discussing this comparison with my coworker for the past half hour. I mentioned to him how I've read the K1 has improvements to make with it's AI detection. And him letting me know of the practices from companies such as Creality, makes me want the Bambu more.

    Thanks for the review. I've always been reluctant to buy a Creality machine. They tend to be very expensive for what you get. With the Black Friday prices I bit the bullet and just bought the k1 Max.
    I love the idea of not having to mess with the Z offset. I have been wasting tons of time on the sovol SV07 Plus because of this and the fact that it doesn't seem to save the bed mesh. I have tons of prints that keep failing because of this.
    I'm about to try the Neptune 4 Max
    that I have heard has similar problems.
    I am willing to put up with it for the max because I want the size.
    I was lucky enough to get the bambu carbon X1 and the MMS Just before Christmas of last year and that has been amazing.
    I just received the A1 mini but most of my filament is Sunlu so right now I'm printing adapters. I can't wait to can try out the multi color engine kit that came with the A1 mini.

    Great review, I’ve had my K1 Max for months now and absolutely love it compared to my ender 3. I was just wondering if you could tell me how to turn on the lidar sensor as I haven’t been able to use this part yet. Saying that I’ve never had a bad print on the first layer yet. Many thanks for your answer in advance.

    Hi ! What input shaping does is that it measures vibrations and then while printing it will counter those vibrations with motors, so it should remove ghosting ect. And could make your speeds even faster

    • @MakeUseOf

      Interesting! So if I move it, I'll need to re-test the vibrations I guess.

    • @giovannebeistline2575
      @giovannebeistline2575 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No. Input shaping uses an accelerometer to gather data thqt is used to compensate

    • @benscottbongiben
      @benscottbongiben 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@giovannebeistline2575 well yes something which a sensor can't really move a mechanical part on its own. My point was more than the accelerometer is used to deduce the resonances and klipper firmware then profiles the resonances inherent in the hotend and bed areas of he printer. Additionally linear advance may be being used with the lidar sensor to deal with sharp corners at those high accelerations but the input shaping is a different price of hardware which is why I added the comment to help correct a speculative comment he makes in the video about lidar used for motion compensation

    • @MakeUseOf
      @MakeUseOf  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Printing for a month on this, I haven't had any sign of clogging. I'm afraid I don't know what they're doing wrong, just that it hasn't been my experience at all.

    • @kevinbond1152
      @kevinbond1152 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've heard it's an adjustment of the extruder. Could be bad design by Creality. The direct drive gears are sometimes too far apart causing filament to move slow clogging hotend. At its current price all the features and can be used not as a cloud machine is a big plus.

  • @MrPetersVideo
    @MrPetersVideo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It is not a "Bowden Tube"........ that is when the Extruder is SEPARATE to the Hotend. This is just a "Long PTFE to guide filament from a long distance away, around bends and paths as required". LOL
    But this PTFE idea is a bad design - so THAT is one thing to list as a "CON". You really want to remove it and set up a feed system that comes in from above/middle.... something very easy to do really, but not with their glass top unfortunately (though you could get it modded with a hole put into it!!). You just don't want all the twists and turns, and complexity of the feed path THEY have set it up with. It is likely that this long complex path is why many users have had extruder blockages - and some users have had MANY cases occur on theirs. Which is another "CON" to mention - even if your own did not encounter that, the reports are widespread and MANY - so they are real and happening.
    The long path makes feeding in filament on a change etc, more painful and difficult too. But as I mentioned, it is an easy fix to set it up in a far more sensible and workable manner.....
    Other than that, I am glad your review shows how great it CAN be.....
    Thanks.

    • @MakeUseOf
      @MakeUseOf  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fair points, but I can't list something as a con if I didn't experience it.

    • @MrPetersVideo
      @MrPetersVideo 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Errrrr... you yourself haven't had to bend the PTFE Tube up more vertical to get the filament to even go into the Extruder drive? Or you have not seen how that design makes the PTFE Tube rub along under the glass at times (a fair few areas of printhead moves/positions)? Or you have not seen how the cable chain rests on, and rubs along, the X Axis top rail at times (often) also? Or felt how hard it is to get filament to even get through the PTFE Tube until it even gets to the Printhead/Extruder? These are all blatantly obvious results of a blatantly obvious BAD DESIGN.
      Does it stop the printing? Not really. But how good is it to have a cable chain rub along an X Axis rail, over and over... 1000 times per print? Or how good is it for a cable chain/PTFE Tube combination to rub along on the underside of a glass top.... 1000 times per print? And the difficulty it all adds to getting filament THROUGH the PTFE Tube system, and then into the printhead/extruder drive - every time you need to change filament.
      This is not on ONE printer... it is on EVERY SINGLE K1 Max...... yours included without doubt. Because that is how it is designed, and how it is done on them ALL. And these three things (which all stem from the one design shortfall) are not positives..... quite the opposite....
      Mine is all "fixed" up to not have those issues anymore. But a user should not need to even have to do such things. And in the raw 'As it comes" form, it is a CON. A negative.
      And there are even some more.... that every K1 Max will have also....

  • @TheHaxxsaw
    @TheHaxxsaw 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have the K1 and the K1 Max....For the most part, I like both of them. But they are far from perfect. The tolerance level on prints is really bad. Creality cloud is a joke, and Creality Print is not good enough. There needs to be a lot more customization allowed with prints, especially with supports. And that 600mm speed...does not work well for most prints, even though it is faster than older machines.

      This isn't marketing, and I'm not selling anything. I don't even make affiliate money (our website might, but none of that comes to me). I expect the wooden box was added after shipping issues - I know early models had a lot of breakages and buggy bits, which is why they delayed our review model until that was sorted.
