Great to see! I used needle nose pliers to enlarge the last coil on the spring so it fits in the tabs all snug. I can actually do the oil change without having to lean it over anymore. Great video as always!
i work at bike shop and own a klx230sm and grease is all i would use to hold that spring in place i have seen alot worse go into engines it will be fine this is the same you would do on any other engine size if a little bit of grease wont even hurt something like a h2 so it would defiantly not effect a little air cooled sohc 230.
I also get why you dont use grease because it doesn't hold that well its a bit finicky and you gotta just have everything ready to go and place it before the spring falls.
I'd change the oil and filter every 5,000 km / 3,100 miles. I'm in Thailand, and it's hot, so I'd use a 15w50 oil. No salt on the road over here. Quarts and ounces mean nothing to me. I've looked up the conversions to litres. Nick
How about a vidieo on suspension and swingarm lube? My 230sm ws DRY as a popcorn Fart! Not any grease at all on suspension links or swingarm pivot! All better now!
Love the 230sm content! Just wondering, when looking at aftermarket bits (aka fender deletes, exhausts, bars, etc) there seems to be a lot targeted to the klx230 and 230r but not so much actually labled to fit the 230sm model. Do you know if the general aftermarket klx230 parts will fit the 230sm model? Thanks in advance
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too, most of the parts will but probably not all will transfer over since the regular 230 and the SM are practically the same except for wheels, tires and suspension
Thanks, yeah I'm guessing atleast basic things like fender deletes and such should fit. I'm picking up a 230sm this week, so I'll find out soon through some trial and error haha. Thanks for the reply! Keep up the good content
I am running a norifumi trex exhaust. And the bike I think needs a gearing change on it to go above that speed cause it feels like a rpm cut. Also since it has efi not a carb any adjustments on that would have to be done through a tuner.
Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a way, the idle is controlled electronically. There has been some talk on forums about people putting a manual idle adjustment screw, but besides doing something like that probably gonna need ecu remap… cause idle is 1800 from factory….

That’s a really good idea and tbh that seems like much safer option than laying the bike on its side lol
@@pitbikemikeoh, I clamped on a vice grip on the other end of the spring so it didn’t go “boing” and fly somewhere I couldn’t find it
love the klx 230. i just got a 2023 klx 300sm. came up to being the same price, but with either bike you simply cant go wrong
keep up the klx content
Amazing video
Thanks!

what did you use to lube it?
Bel Ray saltwater proof grease.
Thank you for this. It helped us
yo Pitbike Mike...will this work on the 2023 KLX 230 enduro? thanks, great vidyo

What carb and intake you running stock
How many miles do you have now? Do you have any issues? Looking at your exact bike for $3.4k one owner
I have about 5500 miles on it now. (Didn’t ride it as much as my other bikes this year) And I haven’t had any issues with mine.
what exhaust is that. If you know the part # as well? much appreciated!
Norifumi from Indonesia
What kind of exhaust you running did it help on top end. Can I adjust carb to not blip out at 74 miles an hour

How do I get my idle down? Idles high from the dealership and when I rev it, takes a minute to go back down to idle

would it be ok to use Delo 15-40 diesel motor oil in my 2023 KLX 230?
I just changed oil and filter on a KLX 230. The spring held in place and never popped out. I guess I got lucky.
Definitely got lucky. When I first did oil change it was bit stressful making sure the spring stayed in place long enough to fit the filter.
