    During the pandemic our hospital gave us lunch which was usually a sandwich chocolate and crisps. My Portuguese colleagues were appalled, as they said why is a health centre giving us stuff that’s unhealthy. My Portuguese colleagues eat well , none obese, none restrict themselves, all natural. I think it points to the answer of the French condundrum.

He drank whiskey almost everyday. Occationally something sweet like cake or pie. Vegtables like greens on a daily basis also.

    I have been travelling to USA since 1987 , from Pakistan 🇵🇰, have noticed some difference in the food we get in my country, what I found odd to start with was the size of vegetables, no seeds in fruits, they look great but have very little taste, and after a full meal, one gets hungry soon , the huge size of chicken maybe because they are fed hormones, same with cows , here this hormone feeding has also started mainly in chicken and I have observed that those people who consume more chicken are putting on weight very fast . The vegetables are much less tampered with and also fruits. They taste much better, these are full of seeds and go bad much sooner than the ones in America and UK. Many people here have 2 meals, like me and don't snack in between and don't feel hungry till dinner. Those living in villages have almost nothing from bakery or other junk food and are healthier . Mostly our meals are home cooked. But as we are trying to follow the western style of growing our crops and poultry and dairy products, the health of the people is being affected. I wish we would leave nature alone , the produce may fall , but whatever is produced is much more nurturing and healthy. What's your opinion ?

For what it's worth, interestingly and in line with Portugal, if you go to a local small grocers in a Spanish village today, I personally find the fruit and veg that I remember as a child.

    My sister provided respite care for kids. Her own 4 drank water not juice or fizzy sweet drinks or iced coffee . The respite kids said water made them feel sick tasted bad etc. The water was rainwater not chlorinated or metallic and eventually they got used to it .
    As a kid our water was often bad in summer and we were allowed to add cordial . There were tricks you could use like letting a jug of tapwater stand for an hour so the silt settled on the bottom! As i got older i drank a lot of tea. But the best thing was moving out of the outback to places with rainwater tanks and good tap water.
    Cheap carbonated drinks are sold in huge quantities to poor people . When i shifted from poor schools to schools in higher socio economic suburbs the kids were slimmer and carried water bottles. The idea that its choice is questionable.

      Sometimes (not always) it's a matter of priorities. I notice quite a few people spending a bundle on cars, tattoos, piercings, high-end coffee, booze, entertainment, tech gizmos, lottery tickets (a tax on the stupid) and then moaning about the cost of decent food. Even if you don't waste your money on unnecessary stuff, maybe think about getting together with other people to take advantage of bulk shopping for grains, pulses, etc. And ultra-processed food isn't always cheaper. Dried beans, lentils, etc. and root veg are reasonably cheap and delicious if you know how to cook.

    6:45 I get his comment is meant towards weight. But the absolute benefits of stopping sodas are that 1. regular soda is full of caffeine which can trigger a multitude of health issues like having anxiety or POTS syndrome and such. Caffeine increases episodes ten fold. And 2. diet soda is horrible. So is zero sugar other drinks because they increase or add Aspartame which is equally horrible if someone is sensitive to anxiety and racing thoughts or ADHD and other issues. The FDA needs to stop all dyes in what we consume, using only natural juices for coloring (beets, carrot, berries, etc.). They need to halt all oils except organic avocoado, organic coconut, organic safflower (in limits), and organic olive. Also not allowing companies to get away w/loop holes for "natural flavoring" or allowed to mislabele something organic that isn't; only if it's truly 100% organic.

    What about Oxalates in many plant-based foods?

    • @Alice_Walker
      @Alice_Walker ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Avoiding them isn't recommended for most people, unless you have specific health problems like recurring kidney stones in which case best to take the advice of your medical professional. Cooking removes almost all the oxalates if that's something you're mildly concerned about.

    • @StrangeQuark-kp6kb
      @StrangeQuark-kp6kb ปีที่แล้ว

      Only green leafy vegetables contain higher amounts of oxalates. You can be plant based without eating a kilo of raw spinach every day... Vegans do not eat only lettuce and kale and spinach.. eat beans, tofu, lentils, cabbage, tomatoes, chickpeas, potatoes, zucchini, onions...and you have nothing to worry about

    • @chrismyers9951

      @ssssjjjhhhh ปีที่แล้ว

      @Alice_Walker how do you think people get kidney stones in the first place ? Clearly from high oxilate foods so your argument is pointless.
      Plants contain heavy amounts of defense chemicals not just oxilates so I'd rather eat my steak and eggs for bio available nutrition!

    They aren’t losing weight because they are more than likely eating more food because they like most people underestimate how much they’re eating.
    This happens all the time with people exercising and dieting. They over estimate how many calories get burned through exercise and under estimate how many calories they consume. If that study just took people’s word that is a problem. Geez guys come on you should know better than this.

So if all you give a shit about is lossing weight eat one Mars bar a day and you will lose weight. SUGAR doesn’t make you fat, excess calories do.
