I love that you have Part 2 that high up. Part 2 was my introduction, not only to the Friday franchise but to Horror movies in general. I will always love it for that. Fun characters, and bag-head Jason is scary. Plus Ginny is the most intelligent of the final girls. That wheelchair kill is outstanding too! I revisit it often too.
My favorite is Part 2 but I cant fault you for placing it where you did. I always had this theory that 1-5 are the only canon movies. The rest (which go more supernatural) are just campfire stories. Getting more ridiculous with every new storyteller. It also explains why the camera follows Jason more in those movies. Being a campfire story, the teller wants to focus on the monster more.
Since Halloween 5 and 6 were horrible I always thought that there were just tales because the cult storyline seems like something someone would pull out of their ass when their bored.
My personal favorite is The Final Chapter. I love the way Jason dies in the movie. Having Jason's own machete plunged into his head and how his head slides down the blade. Absolutely amazing stuff 👌
@Mr B thank you for your input ! it was the first jason i saw and i agree that he's quite iconic. love the contrast between the desocialised, almost overpowered killer and the (more often than not) critised teen characters if that makes sense. it's two worlds meeting in a gruesome way, even though I'd agree that some of these characters are straight up unlikeable.
One major reason I like Part 6: That sequence where he kills Paula is truly unsettling and underrated. Usually we get that camera view of them being stalked and then Jason just appears and kills them quickly. But actually seeing him walk okay from the kids to silently following her and she knows somethings wrong but has NO idea what's waiting for her and then when does get her...I just found that one surprisingly more creepy than had remembered back in the day. And I love his utility belt ensemble lol. It's very tongue and cheek but fun.
Agreed. I remember seeing this back in the 1980s and being truly frightened when Jason is following Paula from just outside the cabin windows. His stalking is a great setup to the attack that happens later. I also like the shot where he steps into the foreground from the side in front of the camper. Then, there is the shot where Jason walks passed the totem pole of signs describing the virtues of camp life. It is a great sense of irony to see him in that way entering into the campsite. I also love the final fight with Jason erupting out of the flaming lake and trying to drag Tommy Jarvis out of the rowboat. I have watched that sequence dozens of times over the years and am still tensed by it, even though I know that Tommy will get out of that alive. Superior direction and cinematography makes this one of the best films in the series and surely higher than it is ranked here.
Bro part 7 Jason was the best did you not see all the rips and tears through the years and how many times he's got beat to death on the face and everything you could see the ax in his head and where he got hit by his own machete and where the girl had that song on the boat and chop the half of his mask off and it has the teeth showing it's so cool
Points in favor of Jason Lives: enter zombie Jason, cinematography, Tommy's as Jason's true Ahab, kids actually present at the camp, OTT storytelling to enhance fun factor, Alice Cooper, and the down time between kills is less boring than most other slashers.
Yeah this was my personal favourite of the movies also. Have watched it many times. It’s also the very first instalment I watch at a kid, was at a friends house and found his dads VHS Horror collection and I was hooked.

@@mlghitler251 Doesn't make sense though as Jason seems surprised when Giny talks to him in his mother's clothes. Once he saw Pamela's head he knew he had been fooled and attacks her. I really do think he was offering people to his mother.
I actually really love the remake, I think it’s a ton of fun and doesn’t drag for a second. It doesn’t get the love I think it deserves. Part 3 and part 4 are my favorites.
I really don't like the remake and trust me i tried, it wasn't fantastical enough and it came off as more of a Texas chain saw movie. Love parts 3 and 4 though
The best part of VIII is the massive late 80s nostalgia triggered by that closing song. I think it's even more 80s than Alice Cooper in Jason Lives. Which is very 80s indeed.
I think Friday did something that not a lot of Horror movies or any other kind of media could get away with so well like they did. Jason becoming the main threat in the sequel and then going from Human to Zombie/Demon/Thing were some pretty huge leaps to have in your series, but I think it honestly works really well. I love human Jason, but I also love Zombie Jason. My favorite part personally is Part 6 because of my love of Thom Mathews as Tommy Jarvis and the first appearance of Zombie Jason. I really hope this series gets out of that lawsuit hell

funny enough, the name of that character was based on Nancy McLoughlin, the directors wife. Tom decided on this based on the child-like nature Nancy (his wife) had. she would often feature in his projects, playing Lizabeth here in Part VI and playing a nurse in the episode of Freddy’s Nightmares that he directed. i see what you mean though, the reference seems apparent.

The reason Jason Lives is high on most lists is because it is self aware and I think it worked well. Jason Lives is basically a movie that presents the idea of Jason as absurd as it really is.
I might be alone here but the "New blood" was by far my favorite. It's like Carrie vs jason , sooooo good, pluse the kills and cast was good. Jason looks sooo amazing in it too. My second favorite has to be part 4.
You're not alone. I personally LOVE New Blood and I think all the hate it gets is so undeserved. When you think about it, all the Friday the 13th movies are campy (yes, pun intended) and ridiculous but that's part of their charm. Except for Jason Goes to Hell. That movie can go to hell. It's just terrible.

Chris is my favorite final girl in the franchise. She fucked Jason up numerous times like no other final girl ever has. P.S, Tina and her supernatural powers do not count. Chris did it with her wits and her courage alone.
I think it's boring. I can't even remember the final chase and I watched it a few months ago. I respect if you like it the best that no one can tell you you're wrong tho. But I really have tried with that movie, and just don't enjoy it.

The remake and part 4 are definitely my favourites because of the Jason’s and the kills but if part 7 had kept the original versions of the kills then it would definitely be up there they are some the best kills of the franchise

I don't always understand why people put 8 low. I love 6 and all so i have no prob with that. But why hate 8. The only negative is the poor nake up. Because compared to 7 s high quality. It does look alot cheaper. But if you forget that they coupd not afford Manhatten as planned. I do think they shouldn't of marketed the movie like that. I think that if they would of focused more on the cruise and Docking on Manhatten is like a surprise build up to the ending. It is tje last of continuity for me. I mean the Jason Voorhees dying in THE Manhatten sewers in toxic waste. And thf toxic waste sequence was good and the sound effects are great. Friday 4 wins by a landslide. No other entry was as darkly terrifying as that one and revisiting it again recently had only cemented my opinion. Ted White was amazing in the role of Jason, & it’s responsible for some of the best kills in the franchise.
While Jason Lives is one of my favorites, it took a while for me to adjust to it. I didn't like the new humor at first but now I love it. Honestly, I think this is the strongest horror series out of all of them and I have love to each movie.
My main problem with part 6 is the fact that Crystal Lake was renamed. Part 4 takes place in 1984 and Part 6 takes place in 1990, that means in 6 years all of the younger generation has never heard of Jason and the 30+ murders within 5 years in the County. Even Megan, who is the same age as Tommy, thinks Jason is a legend, yet he only killed numerous others 6 years before
Part 3 has my personal favorite final girl. Part 2 has my favorite character over all which would be Vicky the adorable sweetheart whose totally lusting after the dude in the wheelchair.

Jason Lives is the first movie that has some jokes in it, it's the first time Jason is actually a 'zombie' and not just a guy who can take a lot of pain. It was just more Friday the 13th at its stride

I have part 4 as #1. I like the production of the beginning where they find Jason in the barn. The scared black girl paramedic reminds me of the lady in Halloween 4 who gets killed in the ambulance.

I couldn’t agree more with your placement of Jason Lives. I also don’t understand the recent canonizing of this film. To me, it’s the worst of the first six. Almost no gore, the humor is forced and too meta, and I can’t stand the characters. The relationship between Tommy and the end girl is impossible to believe, and Tommy is a major step backward from part 5.
So glad Jason takes Manhattan got points for Kelly Hu. She honestly should've just been the final girl cause she's the only thing I truly remember from the movie
Nope. Terrible Jason. Boring. Slow. Breathes real heavy for no reason. Over-acts when shot. Holds arms out to his side like he's carrying invisible luggage. I don't get why fans have such a hard-on for Hodder. White and Brooker were the best hands down.
I always consider "Freddy vs Jason" more of a Freddy Krueger movie since it focuses more on Freddy trying to return and kill the Elm Street kids. So never made sense why it's part of many Friday the 13th boxset series in recent years, besides the fact it somewhat connects to "Jason Goes to Hell".

When it comes to the original films, I always liked the theory that Jason was the protagonist of the films. That the majority of his victims were guilty of sin. (As well as whatever was considered sin at the time.) This putting Jason as an Anti-Villain (Anti-Hero?) Of sorts.
protagonist doesn't mean good guy. If that theory was true (I personally think its dumb) Jason would still be the antagonist sense hes literally trying to kill the main characters.
Finally some love for part 7 Thank you it's my Favorite Sequel of the Franchise But part 2 and part 4 seems to be everyone Favorite fans have a hard time picking between those two

It was actually Rob's machete. Jason never had possession of it in Final Chapter. I think it's the only movie where he doesn't use a machete.

One major reason I like Part 6: That sequence where he kills Paula is truly unsettling and underrated. Usually we get that camera view of them being stalked and then Jason just appears and kills them quickly. But actually seeing him walk okay from the kids to silently following her and she knows somethings wrong but has NO idea what's waiting for her and then when does get her...I just found that one surprisingly more creepy than had remembered back in the day. And I love his utility belt ensemble lol. It's very tongue and cheek but fun.
Agreed. I remember seeing this back in the 1980s and being truly frightened when Jason is following Paula from just outside the cabin windows. His stalking is a great setup to the attack that happens later. I also like the shot where he steps into the foreground from the side in front of the camper. Then, there is the shot where Jason walks passed the totem pole of signs describing the virtues of camp life. It is a great sense of irony to see him in that way entering into the campsite. I also love the final fight with Jason erupting out of the flaming lake and trying to drag Tommy Jarvis out of the rowboat. I have watched that sequence dozens of times over the years and am still tensed by it, even though I know that Tommy will get out of that alive. Superior direction and cinematography makes this one of the best films in the series and surely higher than it is ranked here.

Points in favor of Jason Lives: enter zombie Jason, cinematography, Tommy's as Jason's true Ahab, kids actually present at the camp, OTT storytelling to enhance fun factor, Alice Cooper, and the down time between kills is less boring than most other slashers.

Yeah this was my personal favourite of the movies also. Have watched it many times. It’s also the very first instalment I watch at a kid, was at a friends house and found his dads VHS Horror collection and I was hooked.
It has kids at the camp, but then it can't even bother to pretend those kids might actually be in danger.

I think Friday did something that not a lot of Horror movies or any other kind of media could get away with so well like they did. Jason becoming the main threat in the sequel and then going from Human to Zombie/Demon/Thing were some pretty huge leaps to have in your series, but I think it honestly works really well. I love human Jason, but I also love Zombie Jason. My favorite part personally is Part 6 because of my love of Thom Mathews as Tommy Jarvis and the first appearance of Zombie Jason. I really hope this series gets out of that lawsuit hell

funny enough, the name of that character was based on Nancy McLoughlin, the directors wife. Tom decided on this based on the child-like nature Nancy (his wife) had. she would often feature in his projects, playing Lizabeth here in Part VI and playing a nurse in the episode of Freddy’s Nightmares that he directed.

The reason Jason Lives is high on most lists is because it is self aware and I think it worked well. Jason Lives is basically a movie that presents the idea of Jason as absurd as it really is.

You're not alone. I personally LOVE New Blood and I think all the hate it gets is so undeserved. When you think about it, all the Friday the 13th movies are campy (yes, pun intended) and ridiculous but that's part of their charm. Except for Jason Goes to Hell. That movie can go to hell. My biggest problem with Pt 7 is the neutered kills, which is no fault of the creators & I don’t love Hodder’s Jason, never have.
If the kills hadn’t been so watered down it could’ve been pretty great, but with them being so heavily cut it’s almost unwatchable.

I don't always understand why people put 8 low. I love 6 and all so i have no prob with that. But why hate 8. The only negative is the poor nake up. Because compared to 7 s high quality. It does look alot cheaper. But if you forget that they coupd not afford Manhatten as planned. I do think they shouldn't of marketed the movie like that. I think that if they would of focused more on the cruise and Docking on Manhatten is like a surprise build up to the ending. It is tje last of continuity for me. I mean the Jason Voorhees dying in THE Manhatten sewers in toxic waste. And thf toxic waste sequence was good and the sound effects are great. Friday 4 wins by a landslide. No other entry was as darkly terrifying as that one and revisiting it again recently had only cemented my opinion. Ted White was amazing in the role of Jason, & it’s responsible for some of the best kills in the franchise.
While Jason Lives is one of my favorites, it took a while for me to adjust to it. I didn't like the new humor at first but now I love it. Honestly, I think this is the strongest horror series out of all of them and I have love to each movie.

I've watched a TON of F13 ranking videos because it's my favorite horror franchise and I must say of all of them I agree with your ranking the most.
My main problem with part 6 is the fact that Crystal Lake was renamed. Part 4 takes place in 1984 and Part 6 takes place in 1990, that means in 6 years all of the younger generation has never heard of Jason and the 30+ murders within 5 years in the County. Even Megan, who is the same age as Tommy, thinks Jason is a legend, yet he only killed numerous others 6 years before
Part 3 has my personal favorite final girl. Part 2 has my favorite character over all which would be Vicky the adorable sweetheart whose totally lusting after the dude in the wheelchair.

(This movie is criminally underrated and alot of people in the fanbase don't appreciated. Jason gets his mask,Almost every character was great, the atmosphere was great hands down, this movie included more than one villain unlike the other movies{The bikers also no the psychiatrist from New Blood was just a bitch not a villain}, it had great kills, the best 3rd act in the entire franchise and it had easily the best final girl don't even try to refuse it and she actually had a backstory with Jason so that connected her more with Jason. Ok to be fair the "O my god o my god" was bad and when the eye pops in the screen. But nothing is perfect also i know that it didn't tried almost anything new but it did what it did better than the 2 previous movies and Jason's smile at end was.... Creepy)

Jason Lives is the first movie that has some jokes in it, it's the first time Jason is actually a 'zombie' and not just a guy who can take a lot of pain. It was just more Friday the 13th at its stride

I have part 4 as #1. I like the production of the beginning where they find Jason in the barn. The scared black girl paramedic reminds me of the lady in Halloween 4 who gets killed in the ambulance.

How are none of the Jason X characters memorable? There's Brodski, who does the best kill on Jason in the whole series
I wouldn't say the best, but the most dramatic one. Especially for the fact that he sacrifices himself to do so

At the end when he says something about someone updating something, scream is right there shaking his head.

Always thought parts 2, 4 and 6 were my favourites.
But also thought parts 5, 7 and the remake were underrated, getting too much hate.
My least favourites were 3 and 9. And, in my mind, Freddy vs Jason barely qualifies as a Friday movie.

Part 6 is easily my fav. It feels most like a horror movie and I like the way Jason looks.
In my opinion, part VII Jason and Part IV Jason look more scary.

I never realized there were this many Friday the 13th movies. Definitely going to watch the ones I haven’t seen.
I couldn’t agree more with your placement of Jason Lives. I also don’t understand the recent canonizing of this film. To me, it’s the worst of the first six. Almost no gore, the humor is forced and too meta, and I can’t stand the characters. The relationship between Tommy and the end girl is impossible to believe, and Tommy is a major step backward from part 5.
So glad Jason takes Manhattan got points for Kelly Hu. She honestly should've just been the final girl cause she's the only thing I truly remember from the movie
Imma say it: Kane Hodder should of been in Freddy vs Jason.
Nope. Terrible Jason. Boring. Slow. Breathes real heavy for no reason. Over-acts when shot. Holds arms out to his side like he's carrying invisible luggage. I don't get why fans have such a hard-on for Hodder. White and Brooker were the best hands down.
I always consider "Freddy vs Jason" more of a Freddy Krueger movie since it focuses more on Freddy trying to return and kill the Elm Street kids. So never made sense why it's part of many Friday the 13th boxset series in recent years, besides the fact it somewhat connects to "Jason Goes to Hell".

When it comes to the original films, I always liked the theory that Jason was the protagonist of the films. That the majority of his victims were guilty of sin. (As well as whatever was considered sin at the time.) This putting Jason as an Anti-Villain (Anti-Hero?) Of sorts.

Finally some love for part 7 Thank you it's my Favorite Sequel of the Franchise But part 2 and part 4 seems to be everyone Favorite fans have a hard time picking between those two

I'm shocked to see Freddy vs Jason so low on the list! I mean its a whole lot of fun! I personally love the remake, 4, and 6. Decided to review the first one as well for the day that's in it, but the original wouldn't be high on my list at all.
