If you're like me, you've probably seen the original Scream at least a hundred times. Heck, I usually watch it at least 4 times a month with all the editing I end up doing for these videos. But the wonderful things about this Wes Craven directed/Kevin Williamson written classic, is that there is always something new to discover about it, even 25 years later.
I'm sure most of you diehards have a wikipedic knowledge of the things I list in this video, but this isn't your typical ending explained. For everyone else, prepare to get well-versed in your favorite scary movie when we go over all the hidden Easter eggs there are to be found in Scream when referencing a back catalogue of the horror genre's finest offerings. For example, Psycho and Halloween.
By the time you're finished this video, you will not only be able to list every horror movie mentioned in Scream, but also learn everything there is to know about it too. So expand your appreciation for the Scream franchise and find out everything you didn't know about the original, groundbreaking movie.
Also, if you feel I missed any horror movie references, or made a mistake, please go ahead and leave your feedback. A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

I bet after the original Scream the Beckers moved away from Woodsboro because finding the gutted bodies of their daughter and her boyfriend probably traumatised them for life. Finding out 2 of Casey and Steve's own classmates did it probably made things worse. It's not hard to imagine them thanking Sidney for killing Billy and Stu.

@@Xehanort10 the only motive-related thing that would really make sense in this franchise, is that Casey's parents and especially her mother (and not a brother, a sister, a cousin, a lost uncle or somebody else) would sometime seek personal revenge for their daughter. But no, even though pretty much everyone else in this ongoing franchise seeked revenge at some point. Anyway, i tend to believe that the sinister subtext of 'Scream 1' is all about 'poisoning' the very bondage between mothers & daughters. In the opening scene a mother loses her daughter (i strongly believe it's this tragic layer that makes this scene the most 'iconic' and 'unforgettable' of the whole franchise) and the rest of the movie is all about a girl that has lost her mother. Horribly & brutally in both cases from some more or less random teenagers. The same teenagers. And the film is not about dealing with this trauma, i mean supposedly yes, but not really. In my eyes, this is just an atrocious side-plot of some kind, a cheap 'politically correct' alibi for the installment. The film provides thrilling PLEASURE using the breaking of this mother/daughter bondage as a plot instrument. Majority of viewers & horror fans admire the opening scene as 'iconic' and glorify the skills of the talented mr Craven for constructing it. But, come on, this is not just a good thrill, it has a traumatising purpose in subconscious level. A similar subtext of the 'toxic' nature of mother/dauhghter relationship was on Nightmare on Elm Street too, with Nancy and Marge. Marge has secretly kept and is 'holding' Freddy's glove with razors. This is quite a symbolism, isn't it? Craven obviously had a thing about mothers. Another argument pointing in that direction, is that during Nancy's nightmare in the classroom, the image of her best friend Tina standing in the deathbag is precisely the posture of a catholic statue of Virgin Mary and in the same blue-white colour too.

I’ve kinda been hooked on your Scream videos the last two days.
One reference/coincidence that I can think of off the top of my head is the scene where Sidney is in Dewey’s jeep and locks the doors on Ghostface is almost beat for beat taken from the criminally under rated/forgotten movie The Lady In White (1988) where the main character (Lukas Haas) traps himself inside a car and locks the doors to escape a killer only for his attacker to head to the back hatch to enter.
It’s a big spoiler for the movie as it spoils who the killer is, so if you have time give it a watch and it’s impossible not to notice the similarities.

So excited for you to do the other movies!!!
I'm planning to have a scream themed party for my birthday next month and I'll probably be using some of your videos for ideas c:
I think I'm gonna make a kind of murder party game where everyone rolls dice to see if and how they get killed and the last one left in the 'final girl'. Me and my horror buff housemate are going to be billy and stu and we are thinking of setting up a projector screen to marathon the movies.

The feet under the bathrom stall door isn't a trope specific to horror films. I believe Copycat might actually be the first pure horror film to feature it, but films of other genres have used it all the way back to the 60s.
I can't recall if it was used in Maniac! for its bathroom kill.
But films like Pink Panther Strikes Again and Firefox both featured scenes with feet revealed under the bathroom stall, both from the 70s.

The motive for the killing is a call back to the slasher " happy birthday to me" in both the killer is upset by the infedilty of the lead's parent with the killer's father which caused the mom to leave or die

When Ghostface tries to strangle Sidney inside the police car with one hand looks very similar to when Michael does the same thing to Annie in Halloween, so I'm guessing it's yet another reference to that movie.

  • @ironoverlord3526

Feeling very late for the party, but I think the killer mocking Sid with the car keys is a reference to Pumpkinhead (1989). Specifically where the creature does the same thing with the chain from a motorcycle.

    • @jaernihiltheus7817

@@murraypeat2871 Ray and Bobby primarily used butcher knives to commit their murders while Doofy primarily used the Fish Hooks. There might've been some overlap (Doofy using a knife to make it look like Ray and Bobby or vice versa) but generally speaking Ghostface with a hook = almost definitely Doofy whereas Ghostface with a knife = Ray and/or Bobby probably.

    • @jaernihiltheus7817
      @jaernihiltheus7817 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@murraypeat2871 The killer that killed all of Shorty's friends while being stoned and rapping was Doofy for sure (used the hook, Bobby was busy, Ray was busy killing the girl in the garage), I'm blanking on most of the weapons that were used in the kills but I wanna say Greg was likely killed by Bobby, as Bobby conveniently walked offscreen just before and the killer was using a knife to stab him, despite the scene being a parody of I Know What You Did Last Summer and the killer there using a hook.
Doofy never appeared anywhere onscreen during the Greg kill (even though he'd probably be there considering his sister was one of the contestants, in fact he'd probably be seen as suspicious if he slinked away just before his sister's performance and then only popped back up after his sister's asshole boyfriend everyone hated was seen gutted).
Likewise, we know that Ray was the killer for the garage scene because not only was that in the original movie it's parodying of course, but because the killer used a knife, Bobby was busy, and the killer with the hook (Doofy) was busy getting blitz with Shorty & friends.

A thought just came to mind there when you said about Sidney living on Elm Street, and it ties into what you said about Craven saying the deputy from ANOES was the same character. What if, like Scream with Stab, ANOES was made into a movie within the Scream universe? So it happened in this universe but it was made into a movie and that's what Casey was referring to!? Just a thought.

Yes he may be generalizing but this trope first appeared in a little 1967 gem called 'Wait until Dark' were a blind women is terrorized by a trio of thugs searching for a heroin stuffed doll they believe to be somewhere in her apartment.
