I have experience here.I married a woman with 3 girls when I was 47. I loved the kids and was happy and greatly honored to be considered their second dad. In fact the youngest was 5 and considers me her real father. But this is true: I was always second place to the kids in her eyes- even when I was right and they were wrong. I had little authority or respect.

Best thing I ever did was leave my ex who had two kids from a previous marriage. The amount of money I spent and not so much as a thank you from her or them. All the responsibility, all the expenses, none of the respect. I went from putting serious cash in the bank, to losing my savings. She never paid for half of anything ever. She begged for me to Come back. No way. So much happier and wealthier without her.

Both people have to put their mates as #1, and then as a couple the #1 priority is the kids. It’s amazing how women want to start out dating by telling their dates that they are always gonna be #2. You want a guy that’s going to accept your kids and share responsibility, by telling him that he’s second place. I dated a single mom and found out I was the side guy she had as she was trying to get back together with her ex.
I took the time to get to know her kids, bought them Christmas presents that fit what they liked and spent a butt load on stuff for her... and got nothing out of it. I know of plenty of cases where the man was toxic. And she was completely right to leave him. But that's still somewhat on her for picking such a terrible partner to begin with. That's what often happens with women chasing bad boys. I know of guys who have children with multiple women. Sometimes they marry one. Sometimes they don't. And this still doesn't change anything for the new guy. Why would he want to clean up the aftermath of someone else's terrible relationship? It doesnt matter how good she looks, the fact that she is a single mom is a major red flag that outweights any other possible "green flag". She is a single mother for a reason after all.
Agreed, I was raised by a single mother and my god is it a toxic burden. My mom is now 44, but she's still the same crazy single mother.

@@ThePepper67 She's practically forced to be the mother and father, so it plays on her emotions, as her only son until 10, it does fk with me because she would lose her temper because life was hard for her, and she would vent it on me. I had no one to back me up and tell her to chill, and most people would say, she's a single mother give her a break. I see how much it's fked with me in my relationships now. But it's also not like she didn't have a choice, she chose an obvious bad partner, my biological father was a chad who wanted to do whatever but got all the chicks. While my mom is also very attractive, she likes to date and mess around, bad mix for a relationship.
I haven't committed a crime or I skipped school, I honestly think Im mentally sane from amazing friends and father figures like an uncle, grandpa, teacher, and eventually stepdad.
I don’t know man... I fell deeply in love with a woman and we had seven years of happiness... then three at each other’s throats and miserable.
People grow, people change and after a long relationship, the other person can just feel like a boat anchor pulling you down; away from anything that makes you happy...
We wouldn’t have made it even if we had managed to have kids... there was nothing left as we were very different people at the end.
I can also understand wanting someone to share your life. That said, a lot of single moms are locked in as they are the ones stuck with the burden. Most women have kids by my age and dating in your 40s is the absolute worst...

My ex-wife decided to divorce me. Been over 3 years now we have two boys together and she can't find any decent guys. Only one guy that she had to live with her her for 9 months and didn't have a job. And I was still paying spousal support. She kicked him out when it got threatened though in court. Lol.
