I got such a burn out last year, that I realized getting that 50K isn't the most important thing. ALL my creative energy was sucked out of me in all my artistic hobbies. So one of the biggest things I learned was not to care as much. If I get there, I get there. Its not worth the giant break I needed afterwards. But still a lovely experience and I'm doing it this year too! Its exciting.
You are so on target about "the slump". I was so excited and was writing more than 1667 a day, now in the last 3 days, I've written less than 200! I am two days behind and it's depressing.
I luckily had a great start this year, and I built up a buffer on my word count, so the last few days, I've only written between 100 and 500 words per day. A lot of schoolwork came up, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it: My region is having a competition on Saturday to see which one of the Nordic countries can write the most in a day, and I'm really excited about it.
I'm writing or typing up poems for NaNo (also wrote a short story.) Basically I'm just not pushing myself this year, just having fun with it this time. Also made my goal for 25,000 words and not 50,000. 50,000 is a bit to much for me at this point. My playlist consist of rock music from the 70s (Queen!) And 80s (Bon Jovi!) . Maybe not one's idea music for writing, but it works for me lol. My reward is watching Queen's Live Aid performance or just a music video in general. When writing I only let myself listen, not look at, the music videos :)
Glad to see you're feeling and doing better. I always hit the first. 7 hard cause I lose momentunm cause my anniversary is the 8th (18 years.. omg). I did well enough in those 7 days by skipping yesterday I only need 100 extra words to get back on target. I am alo taking the 4 days off around Thanksgiving. So I will have 10 days without the day job and due to covid no travel or family for thanksgiving so I am stoked to only focus on writing for those days.
I have 16k words right now bc I cheated and already had a couple chapters written but now I really don’t want to write these next chapters, I just want to skip to the climax. Need to stay focused on what’s happening in the story now and not later. First year doing NaNoWriMo though! Loving it!
First nanowrimo this year. I am in a slump! Tough but fun. I enjoy all the vids everyone post, and also enjoying your workbook! Thank you for making despite not participating!
I'm currently doing live write ins on my twitch Monday-Thursday starting at 1 PM EST. Same name. And these tips are great. Thanks for the help. And good luck with everything, hun. Wishing you all the best. 😀💜
Agree so much that it’s all about the camaraderie. Sometimes the livestreams are a little overwhelming for my introverted ass, but nothing gets me writing quite like they do!
My 4th year of NaNoWriMo! Yay! I will probably have a livestream Wednesday at 3pm Mountain time... Things are pretty crazy right now. :) I move on Friday! :D
Don't blame you for bowing out of Nano. I can't do it this year either. Struggling with edits for Obsidian Gate and starting Project Neon, which is being fun. Between overtime, bills, my car going up in flames, etc. I am just done. Lol. Hope you're doing better.
I am struggling this year because I decided to be a NaNo rebel. I wrote half of a first draft last year for NaNo and I barely touched it this year. I really want to finish it, so I decided to make the second half of the story my NaNo project. The problem is I reworked my outline and I need to add/remove/rewrite some scenes from the first half in order for it all to make sense. This is proving to be difficult and really annoying. I'm spending hours writing and barely getting any additional words because I'm deleting almost as much as I'm rewriting/adding. I can't wait to get to the second half where I am drafting completely from scratch. I will never be a NaNo rebel again lol
Sara D I totally feel you, I decided to go the rebel route this year too, and boy, it’s a mess. I’m finishing my last year’s NaNo project, got a little under half the story to go and while I technically know what’s supposed to happen, I just cant seem to find the momentum.
@@vesperstudio Ugh I now see why they do not recommend being a rebel. It definitely sucks. I'm rooting for you! Maybe find some music that puts you in the mood to write this book? I really like Ambient Worlds channel. I also like Pinterest to search for inspiration pictures of characters/settings. Good luck :)
If you'll allow me to make a suggetion. Don't rewrite the first half yet. Start the most logical place in your outline that hasnt been written yet. Write that. Just push forward, finish the story per your outline. Then save rewriting the first half to revisions. You will make youself crazy having to start and stop in the first half. Just write what you havent written youll gain momentum and you'll fall in love with your new direciton and going back will be much easier. Good Luck.
@@ryanmedina5090 I have seriously considered doing this because I am feeling so discouraged and have zero motivation to write. I think I will take your advice. Thank you ❤️
I stream live every Tuesday and Thursday at 8 PM and Friday at 10 PM. My sprints go as long as I have someone there so they sometimes run 6 hours or more. The average is 4 hours.
You always have such good tips. Two topics I'm hoping you can cover are author webpages and Newsletters. I just published my first book. I've started a webpage, but it isn't live yet. I'm also interested in what kind of content you put in your newsletters. One more thing, what do you do to get more email addresses for your newsletter and to send out updates to fans? Thank you again for the tips.

All of week one for me was really rough. I just hope that means I'm about to hit my stride.
Thanks for the pep talk. I live-stream Monday nights 10pm EST and Wednesday nights 9 pm EST. Come get some words done!

I'M LIVESTREAMING during the weekdays at 9AM CST. They're short, maybe 40 minutes and get everyone ready for the day ahead.
Why did I absolutely need this video? XD
Live writing sprints with "the write mama" Mondays 5.30am EST ☺️
I still have a few weeks to go this year actually probably just one week I’m halfway through I feel like I’m losing traction really fast

it's not in your books section, I missed something didn't I?
Sometimes I forget to use my playlist
Sorry I forgot my streams are EST.
