Thank you Andrew. You might be interested in my comment to Steve .I described my fitting for this G430 HL driver by a conscientious professional who wanted to be sure he recommended the best one. I am sure your clients will also feel that you always do your best. Minor alterations made a big difference. Trackman & similar devices need EXPERT & HONEST INTERPRETATION. Your video gave me the confidence to raid my piggy bank to make the change. RENEWED THANKS.
just got fitted for the G430 HL 5 wood. wonderfullly balanced club, the whole club feels light rather than the head feeling heavy because of the light shaft. A club you really feel you can go at. First club of that loft I've been able to get in the air (18 degree launch)
I'm a good candidate for this test and have a GC3 launch monitor. I'm in the "older adult" category and a bogey golfer with low-to-mid-80s driver swing speed. I have a G425 Driver with an Aldila Quaranta Sapphire 40 shaft in senior flex; the weight is 47 grams. I also acquired a G430 HL driver with the Alta Quick (Fujikura) 35 gram shaft in the senior flex. I really like both drivers, but the Alta Quick shaft felt a bit "whippy" even with my slow swing speed. Here are some numbers. Ping G425 Driver at 12 degrees of loft Swing speed: 85 mph Ball speed: 123 mph Launch: 18.6 Spin: 2,075 Carry: 205 yards Total: 223 yards Ping G430 HL Driver at 12 degrees of loft Swing speed: 85 mph Ball speed: 122 mph Launch: 18.6 Spin: 2,249 Carry: 201 yards Total: 217 yards So, for me, the "High Launch" G430 driver didn't appear to make much of a difference. The Aldila Quaranta Sapphire 40 shaft I have in the G425 is also pretty light. I still like the sound and look of the G430, but not an upgrade from the G425 (for me at least). The G430 HL 4 hybrid appeared to be better in terms of distance. (I don't carry fairway woods because too much frustration.) I felt like I hit the G430 HL 4 hybrid consistently and set the loft at 23.5 degrees. I also have a G425 4 hybrid with the stock Ping shaft and senior flex; the shaft weight is listed on the Ping site is 69.0 grams. The Ping G430 HL 4 hybrid uses the Alta Quick (Fujikura) 45-gram shaft. Maybe the difference in distance is due to the strike, but I felt like the G430 4 hybrid was easy to hit and very consistent. Ping G425 4 hybrid at 23.5 degrees of loft Swing speed: 73 mph Ball speed: 101 mph Launch: 18.0 Spin: 2,500 Carry: 150 yards Total: 169 yards Ping G430 HL 4 hybrid at 23.5 degrees of loft Swing speed: 74 mph Ball speed: 110 mph Launch: 14.7 Spin: 2,300 Carry: 163 yards Total: 181 yards
Thank you for a very interesting comment. You obviously take a keen interest in accurately testing the modern technology. I think it is absolutely vital you need to be fitted by a capable & conscientious golf professional who takes time to get the correct club specification. 30 years ago a so called professional was keen to take my money & NOT give me a correct fitting. Today with modern technology, excellent clubs a good fitter can make your game more rewarding. I make good use of fairway woods & hybrids with my 9 iron being my lowest iron.
@@alangoudie2299 Thanks! I agree about the professional fitting. Right now, I'm not able to make it to a club fitter, but I plan to meet with one very soon. A few years ago, I met with a couple club fitters, and they seemed a bit rushed and quickly grabbed a shaft after watching me hit for 5-10 minutes. They didn't seem to tinker too much after that. I'm a lefty so it's been a bit of a struggle to find a fitter with a decent selection of club heads. I might try Club Champion (in the States) because they appear to have a large selection. I'm happy with the G425 and the current shaft but would like the advice of a fitter too. I'm pretty impressed with the somewhat low spin numbers I registered with both clubs/shafts. I think I'm pretty much maxed out on distance given my swing speed.
This afternoon a golf professional who I have known for 25 years spent 1 hour 15 minutes giving me a comprehensive fitting for a Ping G 430 HL Max 12* driver to suit my 72 mph swing speed. He checked my Mavrik Max 12* then tried the Alta Quick 45 & 35 shafts with the HL Max & SFT heads. He altered the lofts & also the draw bias. He wanted to give me the best & most suitable driver. He was keen to ensure the grip was the best size with the right amount of layers of tape. I am 79 years old, previous total distance 150 yards, handicap 20. My swing speed with the new HL Max increased by 10 mph. He gave me a good price for my Mavrik & I left feeling that I had received excellent, patient advice. I am looking forward to collecting my new driver in 7 days.
Thank you very much for a really helpful video. I am sure many golfers with a slow swing speed will be grateful. Constructive, valuable comments about the spec. eg . Shaft 1/4 " longer than normal. I really appreciate you varying your speed which gave some results that club golfers can get. It is easy for a golf pro to repeat their normal speed that took years to achieve. Reducing speed for pros is difficult. Senior golfers like me want to know what the club will be like for them. Watching pros smashing balls over 260 yards does NOT help senior golfers with their decision making about purchasing a club. Obviously a good fitting is essential. If I buy a HL G430 Max I will ask the pro for a 30 minute lesson when I collect it. He will then be able to fine tune it. Golf pros should realise that many seniors have the money to spend if they get a driver that will work for them. I would NOT WANT TO BUY THIS CLUB ONLINE.A PROPER FITTING IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL. RENEWED THANKS FOR A VIDEO THAT WAS NOT EASY TO MAKE.
Nice video Andrew. I would have liked to see you hit it flat out! I have the SFT G430 which goes well, but years ago I had some Ultralite clubs when they were the rage - and they didn't go too badly. Now many years later maybe it is time to revisit.
Wow, the shaft is light - and longer! I wonder if the whole thing is about our ego? High Launch sounds like I'd need to move from my current 9deg driver to 12deg. This whole thing is doing my head in Andrew. Time for another fitting methinks.
I was exactly looking for a review on the Ping G430 HL driver. What really surprised me was the yardages. My swing speed is very comparable in that at 70 years old I average between high 70’s and low 80’s swing speed when tested. I recently purchased a Ping G430 HL 5 wood with Alta Quick 45 shaft. I have it adjusted to the flat lie and -1 degree loft. With that I’m hitting the ball on average 190+ yards on semi-soft fairways. So I guess I was expecting the driver yardage numbers to be more like 220+. Any thoughts as to the yardages of the driver being this side of 200 yards, possible 35 vs. 45 weight shaft? Thanks for your honest objective reviews, I love watching them!
Thanks for the comments. My best suggestion would be to get a fitting with a Ping fitting Pro then you can experiment with different shaft, head options. Looking at what you hitting the 5 wood 220 yards seems a reasonable expectation. Best regards Andrew.
Hi, it's an interesting concept, sure, but is the HL range by Ping really for 'slow' swing speeds? You mentioned about some additional yards potentially when using this driver, but are we not after here a higher ball flight? I can see the potential of HL models for clubs like 3H or 4H, or maybe even FW woods, but not convinced in the driver IMHO..!?
Hi Andrew fitted with the Alta Quick shaft it is very much biased towards creating more club head speed. Fitted with say the standard Alta CB shaft it would be more about promoting a higher launch, ball flight etc.
Many thanks Andrew I didn't realise that PING had added an HL driver to their range, I'm sure that it will be really useful for some of my fellow seniors, though personally I never like to go beyond 45" as I then start living in the heel. PS Is that your new studio? Perhaps a video tour of the new facility is called for?
Something does not make sense. With my current driver, my clubhead speed is around 78mph and my ball speed around 113mph. I carry the ball 185 yards with a smash factor of 1.44. My natural shot shape is a fade. Why are your carry numbers so low with a much faster clubhead speed?
