    I think it's very generous of you to give your viewers not only some helpful tips on auditioning, but you also encourage them to audition. It's great that you want them to succeed and become Disney characters on their own, and it's like you're with them every single step of the way there! It's very odd to be able to know someone who wants others to succeed now-a-days :/.

      Awe, thank you for watching this video and for such a sweet comment. I was just thanking someone in the comments for congratulating one of the girls who commented that she had just been cast in Disneyland Paris! It isn't so common to see someone being happy for someone else's success! I know! I do want to encourage girls who might feel shaky about auditioning! I know not everyone will make it, but hopefully something said in a video can help, if even in the let down of not getting cast. I should probably make a video that helps encourage those not cast, I know I've done a couple, but perhaps there's more to say on that topic. I do want to see other girls succeed. At least as far as the Princess thing at Disney goes, I feel like I'm in a unique position to encourage them because what do I have to lose, honestly? I'm over the hill. lol. But I've been there, I've done that.. and now I feel like I can help someone else. Also, I get so many people who thank me for making videos, but honestly, I feel like it's me who should be thanking everyone else--because of their interest in the topic, it gives me the opportunity to make a TH-cam video. I never would've imagined of having a TH-cam channel in years past, but it's honestly because of you guys, submitting questions, showing interest, and genuinely enjoying/loving Disney. So thank you guys for that and for watching. lol. I wish I could say or do more, hopefully people can take something good away, even if it's something small. xo

      agreed! I was just reading an article about real life Princess Kate Middleton (you know, the English one, haha) and the article wrote: "After making a speech in front of the royals (and being understandably nervous), 15-year-old Hannah got a chance to talk to Middleton one-on-one. "The princess said to me that I should always keep performing and I should never give up on my dreams," Hannah toldPeople. "That is going to stay with me for the rest of my life.""

      Jennifer Oakes Thanks for replying Jennifer! BTW, I'm really looking forward to your skin care channel. I have been dabbling in skin care this year and i would really like to improve my skins current condition! I have sensitive/ acne prone skin and i'm always looking for the next great product to help me. It would be great to get your advice and reviews on products, since you have experience in skin care. Maybe you could eventually help my current state and make it better? Anyways, I'm very excited for it!

    Hi Jennifer!! Thank you so much for all of your princess videos. They are so inspiring. I still look back and kick myself for nit auditioning out of college (I'm 28 now)...and now I'm too old to princess in the parks officially. However, I found a great opportunity 2 years ago through a local party company. The owner worked for Disney, and I have to say that the experience has been amazing. I still get to do both of the things I love - work with kids and be a nurse - and make a reasonable amount of money haha. Anyway, sorry if this was super long, but I love watching you and your videos. Looking forward to your new channel!!

    I'm glad you're realistic about the job. I hear so many girls say that they don't care about the money and only want the job to show the magic of fantasy and the Disney world to little kids.

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lololol.. thank you for thinking so!! I hate to be "realistic" in the sense that maybe I might be "ruining the magic" for people.. but I think it's important to give some sort of realistic expectation, so that people aren't totally devastated when things don't turn out exactly as they'd hoped.. it's not the kind of job where you make a ton of money--it is still only an hourly wage job, after all, but still.. it does pay more than say a janitor or even someone in merchandise or food service (except, I imagine servers who get tips make more, perhaps, depending on the restaurant). xo (thanks for the comment and for watching!)

    I think I met you, Jennifer. My family and I were at the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall for breakfast in June 2007, and you came to our table. You asked us where we were from, and we said, "Chicago." You said, "Oh, the windy city. Aladdin was just flying the magic carpet over the windy city the other day, and it nearly blew him and Abu away."
    Then you told us to stand up, and said, "hands on your hips, girls," and took a picture with us. :)
    Thanks for making that memory for me.

      wow, thank you so much! hugs to you! I don't always feel so pretty, hahaha, actually, funny you ask that question about seeing Aladdins I used to work with because I was actually feeling totally busted recently when I went in for a hair cut and was surprised to see one of my fave Aladdins I used to work with waiting to get his hair cut too! There I was, no makeup, hair in a bun, my skin was breaking out and wearing some frump mom clothing, lol.. a far cry from what he probably remembered me looking like almost ten years ago, lololol.. but he was wonderful and sweet and he is married and was showing me photos of his wife and family while we waited to get our hair cut, so fun. Thanks for asking that question! xo

    what is the oldest age a Disney princess has been? If you still look young, can you be older and still have a chance to get a Disney princess roll?

    • @dynasty0019
      @dynasty0019 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In short, the age limit is the discretion of management. There are ladies who are in their 30's at Disney still not disapproved from princess roles.

      only on facebook :'( I do run into him at the parks from time to time but life has us in different places, he sees me juggling my kids walking with my husband and I'll see him walking with his friends (he's in his 30's & single & I'm married with kids, haha) we are in totally different places, but we wave and say hey and just, hit like on facebook posts, haha)

    Have you got any advice on auditions like what specific features to work on like acting, facial expressions etc? I'm from the UK so could I still be a character performer in the USA if possible? also I'm only 16 at the moment so I'm trying to prepare myself over the next few years so I don't mess the auditions up too much haha

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could still perform in the USA, I would say I would work most on looking happy, hahaha, because that's the facial expression they'll want most from you (assuming you're not a villain) .. I used to smile so hard my cheeks would hurt! Do you take acting classes now?! Most girls in the UK audition for Disneyland Paris.. best wishes!

    Had you stopped being Pocahontas a long time before the day you finished working at Disney? I am surprised you haven't been contacted and asked to model or act etc especially since starting TH-cam because you are so naturally beautiful! :)
    As an adult I find when I go to Disney I get carried away with the magic and I feel like these characters I am meeting are real. Did that stop for you once you worked there? I guess what I am asking is, did working there take away the magic of Disney world for you in any way? :)

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I did stop being Pocahontas at Disney awhile before stopping working at Disney, it was around the time I went seasonal and started working at the spa, actually. Thanks for the sweet modeling comment! that made my day! hahaha, I'm not tall enough to model and I've been having kids the past couple of years so my body has been going through all sorts of changes! :D As for your other question, I'd really, really like to make a video on this topic because it's a question I get asked frequently! Do you mind waiting for a video?! hahaha, hopefully not! this will be my next video topic! hahahaha.. I get so many questions and I want to answer them all! :D thanks so much for watching!

    Did you ever consider becoming a character trainer? Was that path open to you, or was some additional education and outside Disney experience required?

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OOOOOOoOoooo.. great question.. you know.. I don't think that I ever wanted to train at Disney.. As far as working in the entertainment department, I only ever wanted to perform and nothing else really, lol... I'm sure if I would've wanted that and taken the right steps to getting there, the door would've been open, as it would be for all entertainment cast members in good standing with the company. At the time, being in my early 20s, when I looked at the character trainers, they all looked older and tired and kind of over it. lol. So I think subconsciously, I wanted to avoid that lol, not realizing that life in general has that effect on people. LOL There are all those songs that sing "we ain't never gettin older" or something to that effect, lol, until you actually do get older and you're like, "oh snap.." lol... and especially after having 2 kids, you're for sure tired. LOL anyway, no additional education or outside Disney experience required, honestly.. I saw many, many, many characters take that type of path or move into Disney entertainment management and Disney was awesome in that they often, from what I witnessed & recall, promoted from within the company, which is great.. and if that meant you needed a college Degree, then Disney aimed to make sure you got that education.. have you read anything about the Disney University? Before I left to go work at the Disney Grand Floridian Spa, I had strongly considered working in Public relations at Disney because I would've LOVED to give tours around Magic Kingdom but ultimately the spa seemed more alluring to me. But I often wonder, "what if..." :D

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey! Alice?! OH to be honest, I'm not sure.. I don't know that I've ever met one so petite before, but anything is possible!! Snow White on the other hand, seems like a bit of a stretch to me, but only because of the costumes and the sizes--I think the length of the skirt could be an issue.. the costumes are already made, so it's more about finding the girls who can fit into them .. I hope so though! they're always coming out w/new characters. If those characters don't work out for you, I hope you'll consider a different part in Disney Entertainment! They always need dancers/performers for various things. xo

    I have to comment on that "too old" part. I've never seen you in person, but I honestly don't see that you're past princess age from your videos.
    I've seen "26" mentioned before, but it seems only from WDW character performers. It sure seems different in Disneyland. I'm not sure how old Jasmine is, but she's certainly not 12, as Alice is. She has (and had) friends at Disneyland who are years past 26 and still marvelously portraying that most curious girl.

      Hey thanks Leah!!! thanks for watching the video.. I can't remember if I mentioned it or not! lol. My parents were born in Colombia, South America. My mom is actually from the same city as Shakira & Sofia Vergara (Barranquilla). I do speak a lot of Spanish, but I'd be a liar to say I was fluent, but I understand and speak a good deal and can watch a show on tv and follow it pretty well, the news, reading, etc. As a kid I lived in Germany and was just about fluent, but coming back to the USA, I lost it by freshman year of high school since I had nobody to practice it with and there was basically no German anything here, hahaha.. but every so often I encounter some German (like at the German pavilion) and I get nostalgic about it. I loved living there, as the years pass, the more I seem to forget of the language. So sad! Would love to pick it up again, but it's kind of like, "for what?!" so who knows.. I should just work on improving my Spanish I guess, :D xo

      Thanks so much for responding! Can you give us a taste of your Spanish/German in your next video. I myself am trying to learn Italian. It's so hard if you don't practice everyday (which I'm trying so hard to do lol) Have a great day!

      +Justin Torres Santana very popular question, I'm actually going to ask one of the Aladdins that I used to work with if he'd make a guest appearance, but no promises!! I have a feeling they're not into TH-cam. ❤

      Not true, you can perform until you quit or until you're disapproved from your character. There are ladies who are friends with princesses into their 30's.

    Do you think a 19 year old has the maturity, casting is a joke there and your better off getting out of there, all this long hours, faking a false identity and lying to kids, being forced to wear a ugly wig because they can't style actual hair, you are better off out of that place

    Just saying, it would have been less annoying to watch this video if you had scheduled it when your baby wasn't requiring your attention. You're beautiful, the baby is adorable, but I kept hoping you'd stop and tend to her needs.

      +Annie McDougal I wish parenting were more simple. Who knows what that week looked like, it was all a blur. I had tend to set goals to get videos up.. sometimes I get them up, sometimes I don't. Kids don't always nap as long as you want. Sometimes they do. I'm betting it was one of those weeks where if I didn't film it that day, that afternoon, it wasn't going to get done. I keep busy during the week, playdates, outings, etc. There's usually one day in the week to film, and if the kids aren't cooperating, if I don't have a babysitter, that's it. I wish kids understood the concept of 20 minutes, but they don't. The kids are getting bigger, a change of 6 months is huge..I feel every 6 months, we reach another milestone and whatever issue we had before, gets resolved. I'm thankful to say lately I've reached a milestone where I'm able to film kid free and focused more so than before. As a mom of 2 toddlers, you're never focused. I didn't understand that before I had kids, but now I do. Do you have kids? Moms made no sense to me. I was a know it all. Lol. Having them opened my eyes. I see better and understand how and why things go down how they do.. lack of sleep, etc. Many moms I know stop at one child, and I see how and why they would. I love having 2, but 18 months apart is crazy.

      +Annie McDougal also, I'm kind of glad you feel the way you do after watching this video. Glad you wanted me to stop and tend to her. I so often feel like my viewers could care less about my kids, sadly, based on some of the messages I read from people...they seem to forget I have kids that need me 24-7. Literally. They think I get breaks or something. Both kids are finally asleep tonight and I'm messaging you and ironing. Lol I don't just get to kick it replying to everyone.

    • @anniemcdougal1953
      @anniemcdougal1953 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laughing at the messaging and ironing...My one and only daughter is 38. I raised her alone. Back in the day, I couldn't even afford a house phone, TV, or car. Cell phones or "electronics" were not invented yet. Yep, NO internet. All the attention was focused on our kids, unless you were able to sneak in a quick nap. I still think you're beautiful, kids are adorable, and your videos are great.

    • @OakesPrincess
      @OakesPrincess  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Annie McDougal I love that you raised her without all the electronics. I can't imagine raising a child alone but I imagine it makes you stronger. I keep thinking what it must've been like not having an electronic device to help in crucial moments.. just before having my 2nd child, I never wanted the tv on, but I recall that last trimester, the pain being so intense in my pelvis, it felt brittle...and I was so thankful to turn the TV on.. I hated moving anywhere. walking seemed to give me no relief. For the most part, I like to think I attend to my kids. also, I think a part of me wanted to convey my struggle. It's one of the most challenging parts about parenting...my friends with no kids can't understand why I can't talk on the phone or do the things I used to do. TH-cam has called me on 2 occasions asking me to upload and film more, but I tell them no...I can't. People ask me to vlog, but I tell them no. I try to write as many people as I can back, but ultimately, I can't keep up with it all. I see these youtube girls, what feels like mostly single girls with no kids who can focus on their channel. I also see moms with kids and I often wonder how they do it, except that often they have a spouse who is helping out with editing or just supporting them with youtube, whereas my husband has no interest in youtube, editing, etc. He works a lot. but I feel like too.. this video is something I can't point at, when some of these girls ask, "why don't you write me back..why don't you vlog, why aren't you filming longer videos and uploading more often.." it's because my kids need me so much. and time flies..and all too soon, they'll be gone..
