girl THANK YOU FOR THIS. i never really thought about being a lifeguard (which i don’t mind, was just a little concerned about not working in the actual parks) but my PI interviewer heavily questioned me on lifeguard! this really got me excited for it and now i will be excited if that’s my role!
Ahh! thank you for this video!!! legit the only dcp lifeguarding video that's informative... I start my program in a week and a half and was wondering if all the resort pools have the same hours?? oh & now lifeguards get their location on their itinerary like everybody else!! can't want to start!! thanks again girl!!!
ahhh this made me so excited!! I leave in about a month for my first program as a lifeguard! I also at home and felt destined for the role haha (: I requested a resort over a water park as well, and I too requested Port Orleans is one of my fav resorts too! thanks for your video (:
I too was a lifeguard at Port Orleans for my program in Fall 2009. However things were a little different then. There was no shallow water or deep water lifeguards, and all of our shifts were 10am-8pm with 3 days off. We also had shifts here and there at Old Key West and Saratoga Springs
You mentioned homework- how many hours of homework did you have to do a day? And, what courses did you take? GREAT resource video by the way- Thank you.
Alaynah Woodhouse so I took one online class from the college and one Disney one, it was called organizational leadership! There wasn't really homework for the Disney class just a weekly online quiz and my homework for my other online class was maybe 1-2 hours a week! The only think I did not like about the Disney one is it was a 3 or 4 hour long class I can't exactly remember and made it harder to go to the parks after!
Hi! Thank you so much for the video! I applied to DCP Spring 2017 and I had my phone interview on September 1st. My second role choice is lifeguarding and your video helped me so much 😄 Good Luck with your change in school and big move!!! Best Wishes ~Gabby
Hey girly! So you don't get to choose, however you could try and hint towards a preference in the interview. I'm trying to remember if she even asked me which I would rather do... either way it is such a fun and rewarding role!
I did tell them during my phone interview, it doesn't really impact your chances because sooooo many people I know had tattoos and as long as they can be covered it is no biggie!
How many hours if a typical shift? And how many days a week do you have off? I'm going to be a lifeguard for Disney next semester. I am nervous but beyond excited!
Hey girl first congrats lifeguarding is so fun, normally an AM shift was from 8:30-4:00 or a PM shift was 3:30-10:30. You should have two days off a week sometimes they'll be in a row other times not and don't be nervous they'll teach you everything you need to know! Have fun!!
First off, Charge On. Second, do you know anything about what a seasonal lifeguarding job looks like. Do seasonal tend to get a ton of hours or not a lot?
"when we got there it was cold..." was this january? I begin January 2018 and want to be prepared for the weather! also, do they provide the swim suit or its our own?
Yes I started in Jan! It was abnormally cold when we had our training. You need to bring your own one piece for the swim test and Ellis class, but after that Disney will provide you with suits!
Hi :) I am heading down in a couple days and was wondering what kind of Fitbit you had (and is it waterproof)? I have the Fitbit Flex but am concerned about being damaged. Thank you!
I had the older FitBit Charge and recently switched to the Alta, which I prefer. It isn't "waterproof" but it is sweat resistant and was never a problem jumping in with it or in rain. I just wouldn't sit there with it submerged and take it off in the shower! I can't remember if the Flex tells the time, but if not I would highly recombined one that does!
At the time they weren't considered Disney Look but locations have gotten much more relaxed on it and people haven't had any issues. Just make sure it is single strap with no toe loop!
So I know you have the swimsuit and then the polo and shorts, what determines if you’re able to just wear the swimsuit or do you have to wear the whole ensemble the whole time?
So I know the waterparks are different then the resorts. At the resorts it is the whole shabang shoes and polo and all at all times. I believe deep guards at waterparks in the wave pool can wear just the suit!
If the role is just recreation that most likely means you will be working in the marina or gates at pools like Yacht and Beach! They are also walking around and sanitizing the pool deck at the moment.
This is super after the fact, but I'm so curious... does Disney provide the red swimsuits for us or do we need to go buy them? And if they do, how many do we get?
This was so helpful thank you so much! I start the Disney College Program in August 2018 and I'm going to be a lifeguard too! I was wondering if your lifeguard swimsuit was provided with your costume or do you need to supply your own? Thank you! :)
Costuming will provide all aspects that are needed, including the suits! Granted someone else has probably already worn it, but sometimes you can get lucky and find new ones with the tags on!
Hours will really depend on your location, I hear waterparks typically will get more than resorts. At my location there were 3 shifts either 8:30-4 1-8 or 3:30-10:30 it just really depends and the hours and schedules are ever changing. I worked mostly between 32-37 hours per week just depending!
I got accepted for lifeguard sa quarterly *april start* 2018 It was my 5th from top position i wanted, but now im really scared ill mess up or something :( idk i guess well see how it goes Thanks for the informated video!
Basically they pre determine randomly who will be assigned to a deep water pool, you could maybe say in your interview that you would be comfortable being a deep guard but nothing is guaranteed!
girl THANK YOU FOR THIS. i never really thought about being a lifeguard (which i don’t mind, was just a little concerned about not working in the actual parks) but my PI interviewer heavily questioned me on lifeguard! this really got me excited for it and now i will be excited if that’s my role!
It really is amazing, sometimes I miss it, but I have a job at Disney that I love even more now!
Thank you for the video! Got me even more excited to be a Lifeguard for Spring Advantage 2017! I got accepted a couple days ago so I'm really hyped!
Congrats!!! You are going to have THE best time!
Me too!! :D
Awesome congrats!!
Ugh so helpful! Nobody seems to make videos about lifeguarding at dcp! Thank you!
You're so welcome! Let me know if you have any question about lifeguarding here or about the program in general, I'm happy to help!

Yay! Best of luck, sending pixie dust your way Gabby! Let me know if you have any questions throughout the process!!
Awe thanks girl! Will do! Again, thank you so much for your helpful video!
~Gabby :)
Hi! SO grateful to have finally found a video! Are we able to choose waterpark over resort??
Hey girly! So you don't get to choose, however you could try and hint towards a preference in the interview. I'm trying to remember if she even asked me which I would rather do... either way it is such a fun and rewarding role!
How much did you make a week? And what kind of discounts do you get for working there?
question! during your phone interview did you tell them you had an ankle tattoo? i also have a tattoo and i wondering if i should say anything
I did tell them during my phone interview, it doesn't really impact your chances because sooooo many people I know had tattoos and as long as they can be covered it is no biggie!
Can you clarify the shoe situation? Are your chacos not allowed?
Hey ! I leave in two weeks however I’m nervous as I’ve never done lifeguarding (did swimming when I was younger though) will I be okay still ?
How many hours if a typical shift? And how many days a week do you have off? I'm going to be a lifeguard for Disney next semester. I am nervous but beyond excited!

heyitmemeg Okay! Thank you very much :)
wtf. why did you get a paper from your Ellis visual audit?!?!
#jealous
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GET OUT OF HERE MORGAN
Did you have to tread water without hands even if you're only a shallow water guard for your test? Great video by the way :)
Thanks! We did have to tread water but it was for a shorter time than deep water I believe!
Just to clarify, you have to wear the polo at all times?
Yes! Unless you are a deep guard at a water park, there are certain stands you can be in just the suit!
So why could you not wear your Chacos? Are they not disney look? I just got accepted for lifeguard SA 2020 and I’m wondering about shoes

Heyy! So got interviewed for recreation ... is that lifeguard ? Or other things ?
If the role is just recreation that most likely means you will be working in the marina or gates at pools like Yacht and Beach! They are also walking around and sanitizing the pool deck at the moment.
What were the hours for lifeguarding?
For your costume can you just wear the breathing suit with out the shorts and shirt?
So that will depend on if you are at water park or not, I know I have seen guards in the wave pool area without shirts on.
This is super after the fact, but I'm so curious... does Disney provide the red swimsuits for us or do we need to go buy them? And if they do, how many do we get?
Disney provides everything you need for your costume including a free pair of shoes! I believe cps and full time get 5 of each item!!
This was so helpful thank you so much! I start the Disney College Program in August 2018 and I'm going to be a lifeguard too! I was wondering if your lifeguard swimsuit was provided with your costume or do you need to supply your own? Thank you! :)

It was my 5th from top position i wanted, but now im really scared ill mess up or something :( idk i guess well see how it goes
Thanks for the informated video!
I would say to just give it a fair shot and if it truly is not a fit you can try and talk to casting but no promises that they can change you!
How can I be a deep water guard?
Basically they pre determine randomly who will be assigned to a deep water pool, you could maybe say in your interview that you would be comfortable being a deep guard but nothing is guaranteed!
I am shortsighted. Can i be a lifeguard ?
So you just have to take an eye sight test there either with or without your glasses and if you don't pass then they will recast you!
Thanks I will fly to Disney on June ^_^
What is the brand name of your shoes ?
Chacos!
Thanks!
Did you get to keep your uniform?
Unfortunately no :(
ugh Chris. don't get in my water. come on! I was way more secret than that!
Lolololol
Your lucky. On my program my leader was a jackass.
This is so weird lol hi Meghan
