      @kidicarus2215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      How have they failed to identify a root cause after 12+ hours? They have billions in resources, thousands of employees, diagnostic tools, and tech at their disposal. You'd think that they'd beef up any troubleshooting/diagnostics since the last time it happened. It's either incompetence, negligence, or obfuscation at this point.
      As far as providing an ETA, it's not irresponsible to provide a rough outline of where you'd like to be in a given amount of time. By leaving it nebulous you're only increasing the distrust and lack of certainty in your customer base. It's far more irresponsible to say we have no answers and we have no idea when things will be restored.

Rogers must be the most incompetent company in Canada; they offer vital services to millions of people/businesses and they should have multiple redundancies built into their systems to avoid any outage, let alone an outage that lasted 16 hours, at least in my case! I work in IT and this level of incompetence is unheard of, and utterly unacceptable, especially for a behemoth like Rogers. I came out of this situation very lucky. Tried to buy food at grocery store and was surprised when credit card didn't work. Oops I forgot to make the minimum payment last month and was cut off even though full payment was made last night through online banking. So what to do when one has been careless and no longer has access to credit, and the debit doesn't work? It's not like I go into another store buy something and get cash back. As I drove away from the store I remembered the emergency cash in my purse, it's meant to be forgotten, otherwise it wouldn't be there when needed. So I went back and bought what I needed that day, as I said I was lucky. What about the others who don't have some cash tucked away? A lesson learned today about having cash on hand and being more responsible so that credit and such is always available. Because today.. this may just be the beginning.

      I work in IT and I can tell you that this can and has happened . For example, if an update is pushed without adequate testing and there is a problem with that update, it can cause a whole system to screech to a halt. Think of Facebook/Meta a few months ago when employees couldn’t even get on the campus with their ID cards to address the Facebook outage. That’s how far reaching and catastrophic a commonplace occurrence like an update can be.
      That said, ignoring updates is generally not recommended as they are rolled out for good reason.
