Would a side slip be useful in a circumstance like this? I know it’s cross-controlling and all that, but it gets you a hell of a lot of drag really easily.
For the biggest descent rate you'd typically want to do it like this. As fast as possible while loading up the plane as much as possible to produce more drag. You can't add a slip in this scenario because you're over your maneuvering speed which prohibits a full control surface deflection.
