Those baseplates are sick! Totally into the weight-saving idea, I ride a bucky flight deck with Indy titaniums and bones swiss ceramics.. so light so fast. If cf baseplates become available I'll be all over them. I love seeing some technical advancement in skateboarding, way overdue.. y'all seen what's going on with longboard decks and trucks? On another level. Thanks Bucky, fkn legend.
Sick idea!!! I have been using titanium hardware and 2" titanium race car seat bolts and nuts and inverting my kingpins for years in my titanium indy 169's. I would love to have a set of these baseplates also, I hope you market these. I love the videos that have you Tony, and kevin in them !!!! So sick seeing Tony pushing again and Kevin killed it on the frontside invert!!!
The underside view was cool and scary to watch at the same time. Thanks for sharing what looked to be a great skate sesh, Bucky. Something tells me those baseplates are on a lot of wish-lists now. 😆
Man, I heard that sitar back there and knew immediately that it was Ray's part... the shit that's etched into your brain.... Great to see Tony pushing! Killer session!!
Funny you said Tracker Ultralights Bucky, Im 48 and still have original Tony Hawk claw board from the 80s that came out in 89 and I have tracker ultralights on it and slimeball Wheels. Of course I can't ride no more I have bad health issues but I always love skating. I had a bunch of skateboards through my years. But never hung onto all of them. My Hawk board still in good condition.
Buck Yeah Lasek !!!! Carbon is next level, and not better person to bring us up to speed, and show us what one of the best skateboarders in history still f'n KILL it at 50. Proof in the pudding, fkd long ass line with the back lip to nollie flip stalefish then mctwist, LEGEND
Density of aluminum is about .1 lbs per cubic inch. And carbon fiber epoxy composite varies from .04 to .08 depending on the amount of resin retained in the matrix, so roughly half the weight of aluminum as a rule of thumb. I'm not sure how much weight can be saved on the bushings and the washers, probably a bit, with some kind of bushing center, similar to what Bones bushings have and a carbon fiber washer, all doable.
With ceramic bearings,hollow titanium king pin and titanium axle and it will turn into a feather weight skateboard! Been using titanium precision trucks for the last 5 years and it was the best upgrade I ever had on my board since I started 30 + years ago
Ha, ha, ha! There is nothing new under the sun! Reminds me of my Bennett plastic based trucks with the lifetime guarantee. I would break them and send them in and they would send me a new base. They kept doing it until I finally got tired of paying for shipping. I think Mr. Bennett just didn't realize how destructive a 12 year old boy can be. 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, this technology is DIY stuff. Not exactly the method used for these baseplates, which use woven cloth, but it can be done with carbon fiber tow (chopped strands). With a silicone mold, the chopped strands are mixed with epoxy resin and stuffed into the mold, which has an outlet for excess resin to escape, and it made so that it can be put under pressure with clamps. Squeeze the excess resin out by clamping. Let it set up, de-mold. trim flash, and polish. After that point the kingpin can be drilled and tapped or whatever. Not too hard. Hangers could also be made, and I'm sure it's been done already. An aluminum capped hanger would allow for some grinding before the truck is wasted. I thought of doing this a while back, along with all kinds of other stuff, but anyone pretty handy can do it. See "Forged Carbon Fiber Composite Molding" ( th-cam.com/video/25PmqM24HEk/w-d-xo.html )
Cool 2 see new innovations, My suggestion would be to let Jaws test them? If it works out it will be Revolutionary! Air 2 Disaster slight hangups will tell the tale..............
I remember running the venture feather lights super tight. My friends would say how do you run your trucks so tight. Good old skateboarding days those were some fun times
HAHA, I ran tight trucks back in the day and Stacy Peralta had me loosen them one turn a week until they were loose enough that the actual truck worked and turned like it was designed to do. 😆 True story…
Those under the board shots were rad as hell! Never seen that point of view before.
Under a legend’s board at
Check out Chocolate skateboard's Hot Chocolate video (2004???)
and to see all of these legends chilling together and shredding is the best thing ever
The look on Kevin’s face when you showed him the baseplates were priceless ! Good stuff Bucky!!
That kickflip boardslide to fakie over the gap was crazy!
yeah, wtf are the kids on these days, insane!
Never seen such a perfect grip tape application in my life, not a single crease or bubble
I’m a pro at it!
I love seeing the sessions. Even better is seeing Kevin and Tony doing well. Cant wait for the progress report on those base plates
Fuck we're getting old... Glad you guys are still kickin' it! Cheers!
Good seeing more vert. I would think ultra light board setups would probably be best for flat ground flip tricks.
I always love it when the boys I grew up watching do a video together. Brings me back LOL
Hi bucky.. staab.. and many more. Thank you guys..
~~~Cool to see the Hawk Man on a sk8 not in pain with a big ol’ smile!!! Ride on y’all~~~
You and Hawk were my favorite characters to pick in the old skate games. Glad you're all still ripping it. Keep up the great work. 👍
Awesome sesh man! Thanks for sharing. Good to see Tony moving so well too
With the Titanium hangers, that looks rad! When I had Trackers on my street and vert boards way back, I could do more, higher. These would be great!
Bro, those base plates are knar. The go-pro under your deck is sick. Big ups to Staab and Hawk.
your respect towards Jimmy is admirable!
Those look amazing, we definitely need a full review on them. Definitely some of the best content on the tube.
The base plates remind me of the very old Tracker Ultralights that had the plastic base plates. You base plates look sick.
Love the set up! Really liking the merge between motorsports and skateboarding. Keep it up Bucky!
Hell yea dude. Skateboard built like a race car!
Always get stoked watching your very session mate, CF just takes it over the top.
I can't wait to see D Way and Colin Mckay skating again.
Glad to see Kevin back on it (frontside? Hell yea!) and good to see Danny in the mix, even though it was a parking lot laundry session :P
More to come!
Good call on the carbon fiber. They're going that way with a lot of vehicles too, looks like it was meant to be. Those look sick 😎🦾
So tight thank you
Only a matter of time until we may see them in the skate shops selling like hot cakes.so stoked on innovation
theyd be very expensive, and for people skating ledges or pool coping i seriously doubt they would hold together very long
Super Righteousness 🤟🏼🧔🏽🤙🏼🙇🏽🪷🪷🪷🙏🏽
Carbon Fiber.... Brilliant!
