I am 25 y/o. Born 1983 but I am very appreciative of such antique or old items. We don't discriminate or criticize your hilig sa new bands, personalities, lifestyle, etc. so I hope you do the same... :)
Thanks for uploading this video. Manila was such a glamorous city back in the 1920's and 30's. It looked more like a tropical Paris than the filthy city it has become. I am so happy they are renovating some of the existing pre war structures in the old Manila district specifically Luneta Hotel. Manila will become beautiful again hopefully.
This video is GREAT. I agree with comitern, this makes you want to cry. Actual it did. I dont mean to be sentimental or anything but its nice to know how beautiful is manila before and thinking what we could do to revive it today.
Hay...
@Batulao83 me too, i grew up in manila, and i badly miss those childhood days were i tend to still to feel late afternoon breeze everytime i walk home from school together with my grandma, i miss those old houses were our neighboors used to sprawl into (but now they were demolished), there used to be an abundance of trees in some schools, establishments and parks that i visited,...but now, they didn't survived because of progress
I miss the acacia tress on both sides of Taft Avenue and the big front yard and the fountain inside PGH. I used to walk home under those trees from school to my home in Herran , now Pedro Gil.
This is a wonderful visual record of the beauty of Manila prior to the war. Manila is still such a beautiful city even today with all its history. Too bad its city leaders don't give a rats.I miss being in Maynila, especially Intramuros.
kamakailan lang ay nsa SM Megamall me to visit my favorite collectibles shop w/c is Old Manila & World Treasures. I bought some antique items like postcards, coins, etc. When I went home, a buddy of one of my cuz noticed my items & said to me "ang baduy mo! ang hilig m pla sa mga ganyan! msyado k namang mka lolo!". This is a sad scenario since msyado mka "BAGO" ang majority ng mga tao ngayon to the point that they don't appreciate such things... :(
Ang ganda ganda naman ng Manila noon! Sana ganyan pa rin ngayon...with the trams and all! Anu po title nung second song after the soundtrack ng "Fallout" game?
mas maganda yata ang Manila noon kaysa ngayon. mas malinis yung pasig river. sana mapagtuunan ng mga young Architects today ang physical planning and environment.design buildings and communities with trees and greeneries in mind. kasi pansin ko na wala ng puno sa maynila ngayon.setbacks from street to structure should be wide enough for trees & shrubs to grow.
And manila looked very decent then. It's like you're in the states. Manila looks very rich unlike now, where you see the face of poverty everywhere in manila. There had been a drastic change on how Manila is then and now.
May kasabihan na "we get the government we deserve".
Maganda talaga yung Manila noon, parang San Francisco.
i wish you were born during that era, but somehow it would be quite risky because it be would possible that i would be killed as an infant because of the japanese at war,...but somehow i am thankful that i have appreciated a good manila eventhough it have been nineties since i first saw it!, manila today is filthy!, back then it still has that charm because of the old houses and trees are rampant in our area...kaya presko talaga mamasyal lalo na pag hapon
While I was watching this video I felt pitty for Manila and my country. We were once a great country I asked myself what happened? Our capital went through tremendous neglect. I can't blame just our government but mainly it's one of the causes of such destruction to Manila. But our citizen and our industrialist as well who focus more on profit just to enrich themselves thats why the gap between the rich and the poor are widening.
@nicky2069 Acutally the National Economic Development Authority NEDA planned developmental centers in Davao Cebu and I think Negros so that the people would not be enticed to go to Manila. Urban sprawl was planned that is why we had these regional centers. The problem is as in any other cities in the world, people like to go to the exciting cities. Did you notice that international flights can go directly to Cebu, Davao and there are flights now to Puerto Princesa and Negros.
I love old ' Manila. Looks very orderly and clean. Today's Manila is very dirty and ugly to look at. Other cities in Asia became progressive as years pass by like Singapore, Hongkong, etc. But the exact opposite happened to our beloved Manila. From being called the "Pearl of the Orient", it is now one of the ugliest, if not the ugliest, no thanks to our politicians who are not doing anything to save Manila. .
im just wondering,...where have all those once residents rest in peace?,..i mean don't you think, our cemeteries are now jammed pack and crowded just into thinking about the fact that, died centuries ago and many more just die as years go by?,.. have they incarcerated some corpses in order to replace new ones?,..senxia na kung medyo morbid a pero iniisip lang
manila long time ago was considered the paris of the east too but we dont need those titles because METRO MANILA as a whole is the 14th best skyline in the world be optimistic and at least we all want to gain back the glory to be now not just one of asia's best but one of the world's best by the use of GMA and for all of you to know marcos has the most projects a president did after GMA but he is the smartest of all and greatest!?

im so impress in this video.... malaki na ang ipinagbago ng manila ngayon....
ganda ng pinas...pati intramuros notalgic and dating wish i could i live that time...malinis...mapayapa...not overpopulated...

I wish I had lived in those times to experience the glory of Manila.
I miss the acacia tress on both sides of Taft Avenue and the big front yard and the fountain inside PGH. I used to walk home under those trees from school to my home in Herran , now Pedro Gil.

Manila was a beautiful and safe place with lots of employment during the US commonwealth period. I would love to have lived there then.
i wish i was born during this era; when manila is still healthy to live in.
This is a wonderful visual record of the beauty of Manila prior to the war. Manila is still such a beautiful city even today with all its history. Too bad its city leaders don't give a rats.I miss being in Maynila, especially Intramuros.

WOOOW!!!!!
Judging by the car models, this must be circa 1930
I want to go back in the past BUT.... i want my computer with me....
May kasabihan na "we get the government we deserve". hmmm. manila used to be very beautiful, i know that even though i wasn't even born yet. because my grand parents told me a lot about manila before.
I agree, there will be no corrupt politicians if there are no corrupt people
@niffleheim1998

What's the title po nung ginamit nyo na background music?
i wish you were born during that era, but somehow it would be quite risky because it be would possible that i would be killed as an infant because of the japanese at war,...but somehow i am thankful that i have appreciated a good manila eventhough it have been nineties since i first saw it!, manila today is filthy!, back then it still has that charm because of the old houses and trees are rampant in our area...kaya presko talaga mamasyal lalo na pag hapon
