@@KimBailey-w2g Dalton was excited about doing a third and final film and was ready to go in 1990 but filming was delayed (a complicated rights issue) and it went on until 1993. By that time, Dalton's original three picture contract had expired so he couldn't do one more. He was told he'd have to sign a new deal for at least three. So that's a few more films over seven or eight years when he was already approaching 50 (he was born in 1946). He walked away precisely because he's a Bond fan and wanted to take as much part in them as he could. He remains the only Bond actor who did most of his own stunts and that would've been impossible for him to do over seven years as he approached 60.

I deeply appreciate the powers of observation that Dalton's Bond displays in both films. Examples include noticing Felix's fallen tuxedo flower in Milton Krest's facility, in LTK. Also in said film: him assessing his situation at lightning speed when realizing that Sanchez unwittingly saved him the night before from the Hong Kong narcotics team. That is not too much on display in modern Bond films.
Dalton feels like the smartest Bond. Connery and Moore had photographic memories and knew everything but it felt forced narratively to demonstrate Bond's knowledge. W/Dalton his smarts more naturally service of the story, and suspenseful in the unpredictability(due to the pace he has to make decisions). Through the performance alone Dalton feels perfectly believable no matter what gun he's holding, when he's gotta fly a plane, even doing wheelies w/A tanker truck. He's always completely believable.
Great reflection of Dalton's Bond portrayal. Agree with your analysis of his expression after the death of Saunders, living in a world of both rage and sadness. The ending quote was spot on!
I was ready for a more serious Bond when Dalton was introduced as the next 007. I loved his two films, I was disappointed that he didn't return. I liked Connery and Moore but those were my Dad's Bonds...at 16, Timothy was my Bond. It's about time he is getting the kudos he deserves.

The first time I saw The Living Daylights I wasn't sure what to make of Timothy Dalton. I grew up watching Roger moore, and missed the wink and a nod of his Bond. Upon the 2nd viewing, however, I fell in love with Dalton's interpretation of James Bond. At that point I got it. This was Ian Fleming's Bond. The, "Real," Bond. License To Kill, for me, was the better movie, with an even more ruthless Bond. A Bond who is burned out, sick of the job, but keeps doing it because there isn't anyone as good as him to take his place and his loyalty to Queen (now King) and Country was greater than his loyalty to himself. The two scenes listed here are among my all time favorites, too. But I'd add another. When Bond fails to kill Kara when she was the sniper in the window, and he tells Saunders, "Stuff my orders," and all of the following dialogue ("If they fire me I'll thank them.") and expressions from Dalton - it's simply brilliant. Those three scenes, to me, made Dalton the all time greatest Bond. The only Bond that really followed what was on the page in Ian Fleming's novels. Dalton was brilliant, and it just kills me that he never got that third Bond movie.

Timothy Dalton has always been my favorite bond, his acting, you could really belive that Dalton is bond, his looks everything about him, probably the biggest let down of all the bond movies is that Dalton only did the two, I really believe that if Dalton did 5 bond movies up to goldeneye, he would have been the best bond ever. TLD and LTK are among the best of all the bond movies, due to Dalton.
Thanks Lee, totally agree. I'm very impressed with the work Dalton did, he only had 2 bites of the cherry but I feel like I got more sense of an appreciation for the character off of him than Brosnan.
OHMSS is a VERY good movie. Do not discredit the solo Bond performance. Dalton is also an incredible Bond. He was not appreciated during his day but most Bond fans today hold his movies in very high regard.

I agree with all that was said in this. My introduction to Bond was via the books before seeing the Connery films, which I thought were okay, but Bond in those was different, it wasn't until I saw Timothy Dalton's Bond I again met the Bond from the books, not the playboy Bond or womaniser Bond of the earlier films, he cared about the women he met and took his job seriously, all that he had experienced weighed heavily upon him.
Yup. Im a Daltonite; and have been since seeing TLD on original release. He was up for doing a third movie, studio and production loved working with him. Ultra professional, accompished actor. Looked the part, was the part. LTK was a relatively violent Bond. Brought out the cold assassinator element. Happy days
I enjoyed what you did in this video. Well done! Delving into the complex and dark character of James Bond with all its nuances is a hard thing to do. Explaining why an actor’s performance of such a dark character is so superb is harder still.
I forgot to mention that I went to see Mr Dalton and Vanessa Redgrave in the Touch of the poet at the young Vic. About 1988 or so. Incredible. I could feel the actor's breath on me. I've been fortunate.

Timothy Dalton is in all his movies and stage roles on of the best actors, embodying a role with micro expression brillance like a chamaleon and never plays like 90% of all other modern actors. his speech and Declamation skills and virtuosity are 100% on point till in breath intonation, pauses and voice color like greatest Operasinger does.
I am so glad i found this video. Timothy Dalton is my favorite too. You are spot on about his facial expressions. Among all the actors who have played Bond, i always get the sense that he does the best 'acting'. I couldn't explain it properly. But now i have a video that does that. You can probably make everything work by pure charm and charisma as James Bond. Say someone like Adam West when he played Bruce Wayne. That's probably why he's unnoticed in the Bond fan community. I love his performance. The fact that both of his films while not perfect are really really good. And you get the vibe that he should have been the villain. While playing the hero he can be so menacing. Thank you for pointing out that his Bond is so good in his job. I didn't really think about this. You pointed out Living Daylights. In Licence to Kill, he infiltrates the villain's organization and creates seeds of suspicion. Making them kill each other. I just love his Bond.
I personally prefer Living Daylights to License to Kill. I like the more complex narrative of Daylights. I like the movies where Bond has to play detective to figure out what's going on and who the bad guy really is. And, yes, the final confrontation in Daylights is meh, the penultimate action set piece with the plane is one of the greatest in Bond history. That's the real finale for me.
We seldom see anymore on screen great classical artists like Dalton who thrilled the audience with their enormous talents, charm, wit, class and sophistication. Nowadays we see nothing but eye candy, muscular six pack abs individuals who lack acting abilities but called themselves artists.
Dalton I think is the only actor out of all of them who already had an established career BEFORE he was bond. Like he had more than one role that he was known before he did bond. The others as good as they were had roles before doing bond but it was bond that was a career defining role for them, that wasn’t the case for dalton. To him bond was just another role to add to his resume
I think Timothy Dalton has a natural menace and presence of cold cruelty and anger, I LOVED him in Hot Fuzz and think he brings an element of Villainy into any role
That close-up? Benson nailed it, I believe, when he wrote that Bond doesn't know if he can trust Kara, did she have a hand in what just happened? He already didn't trust Koskov, but Kara was an unproven quantity who hadn't given him reason not to trust her, until maybe now. And he's just had the Whittaker dot connected to the Koskov dot. Meanwhile, another agent is dead in front of him and all he knows is Koskov is pointing the finger at Pushkin, even although he already has major doubts about Koskov. With all of that going through his head, it's not hard to understand why his primary emotion isn't clear.
Dalton was most excellent in TLD, a vastly superior film to that of GoldenEye. However, I felt Licence to Kill let him down badly with its scaled back production costs and location change from China to Mexico. What I wouldn't have given to see Dalton's Bond jump the Great Wall of China on a motorbike, one of the planned stunts for the original movie.
I agree with Mr. Nolan's high estimation of Timothy Dalton. And one thing that leaps out at the viewer in his portrayal is that--no matter what his egoism or sense of espionage angst tells him--this Bond is always looking around, scanning the scene for hidden dangers more than any of the actors around him, and he can tap into that ability to protect others, as we see in his early scenes with Jeroen Krabbe, or with Maryam D'Abo (when he sees her naively exposed to the enemy at the Russian airbase and yanks her back to safety).
Dalton in TLD is by far the best character study of the Bond character in any of the movies. I find the relationship with Kara to be the only believable one of any Bond film (yes that includes Casino Royale which I personally find quite forced). You can actually see Dalton emotionally changing throughout the film as Kara's kinder nature starts to rub off on him.
I grant you that close-up of Dalton is very powerful and the only one that compares to Craig's in the Casino Royale torture scene, but according to the commentary track, it was second unit director Arthur Wooster that shot that scene. It seems so much different in its framing and moody, yet naturalistic lighting, compared to other scenes in the film, as Glenn tended to shot everything in medium and mastershots. He was never that bold in his directing, but another rare close-up of Dalton is in Licence to Kill when he finds out from Pam, that he's further complicated matters by going on a personal vendetta. The stark realization on his face is so clear, that there was no need to further pad out the scene of Bond making some kind of dramatic, intimate speech... You just feel what he's thinking. Dalton was (and is) such a great internal actor, that it's a shame that Glen didn't take more advantage of how expressive he is.
You can say that you started fall in love with her and the way he looked at her in the way she looked at him. It’s all you need to know, and I think when he met her, he started to really think that he could actually have a life, and he started feeling again more than dead inside Kara gave him purpose, and I think he truly loved her and you got to think about it. She truly loved him It takes a woman with true character and strength to ride into harms way to be with a man that she loves and you can see through the movie that I’m getting to know each other. It was a slow burn but it was there and I think this is what James Bond needed he needed to have help again, and she gave it to him.
Dalton has always been my favorite Bond. Memento is one of my favorite movies. Awesome that Nolan prefers Dalton. Very congruent for me. I could never resonate with Craig's version.
It was such a shame that Timothy Dalton disappeared for years after Bond. Resurfacing beautifully slimely for Hot Fuzz and his brilliant fuming Rasillion in Tennant's Doctor Who, "Gallifrey Rises!!".
excellent video. Dalton has been my favourite Bond ever since I saw Licence to Kill in the cinemas. I was 12 years old at the time. Still remains my favourite Bond-film, with The Living Daylights as a close second.

His portrayal in The Living Daylights & License To Kill was a refreshing take on the 80s tough guy action hero trope. Dalton's Bond was always in control, even when he was angry. Moore has always been my favourite Bond but Dalton has always been underated . He's a wonderful and great Actor !I saw other Movies of him .He's one of the Best Bonds with Moore. Never seen the One with Hopkins .
Dalton was a great Bond. A lot of the books, some Connery, a little of Moore. I call him T-Dalt. After a scene in the movie called “I Love You man” a hilarious comedy.

Thx for an excellent video. I knew immediately that Dalton was going to be the best to portray Bond. It had been long overdue to move on from the comic bufoonery of Roger Moore, whose act had worn thin. Just wish the producers had stuck with Dalton, but alas not to be. We have 2 films to treasure the memory of the Bond Ian Fleming envisioned being brought to the big screen.
Had Fleming have lived to see all 6, I'm certain he would have said Timothy was exactly who I wrote in everyway and would have been his favourite actor of them all.

LMAO That's why Craig's Bond fails on ALL COUNTS, it's amazing how LAZY Sam Mendes was in his rip off of the French New Wave and Truffaut, it's ridiculous how the imitation of the supposed love lost sentimental B.S. Mendes tried to infuse into Craig's Bond ended up with Bond dying in the final instalment (yes we know Mendes didn't direct it, but he almost did). Brosnan was just a caricature joke, purely done for box office money, not to represent the novel realism, even Roger Moore started out as intense and in your face, and even that had to be changed because the producers felt that they didn't want anybody using that to represent the British Man in general as a stereotype gruesome animal with no humanity, you see? is why they went the comic comedy way, after all, it was also the time of Monty Python and Peter Sellars when Moore was trying his bit, and Brits wanted to distance itself and its men from the historical brutes of war and Imperialism but rather a jovial gentleman with a sense of humour and decency. How strange the world works, eh?
When I see the waiters mouth move but no dialogue audible it always reminds me of the WorkPrint version of the movie where the waiter says “I’ll get a stretcher” & Bond replies “Better make that two” suggesting that Saunders was cut in half. For the theatrical release they decided to leave it to the imagination & used the “Better make that two” line for the pre title sequence. The WP also shows that they toned down how abrupt Bond was with Saunders during the Koskov defection scene. A couple of words were also changed Bond calls Koskov “General” in the the movie, but calls him “Georgi” in the WP. Also they changed him telling Saunders to meet him at the “bridge” to meet him at the “border” which happens to be on a bridge. I do however wish they had left scene between M & Bond as it was in the WP. After Bond says “it was a split second decision, it was instinct”, M replies “Or accidie?” & Bond says “revulsion with one’s occupation”. It actually sums Bond up pretty well & the extended scene was wonderful, sadly the went for the shorter version which just goes to recalling 008 etc. Dalton has always been my favourite Bond & the greatest shame of the franchise is that he only did the two movies.

The sniper scene is strange without music & the abrupt “better” when Bond activates Saunders night vision shows his frustration at this guy he doesn’t really want to work with before of course Saunders winning him over just before his death. There is also a very small clip from the Licence to Kill WP where Bond calls Lupe a “lying slut” on the Wavekrest. There is also a wonderful sinister laugh just after the “compliments of Sharky” killing. Both WPs use music from old Bond movies, the LTK one uses mainly AVTAK whereas the LD one uses that plus music from Goldfinger. It would be great if they included the workprints on the 40th anniversary Blu rays in 2027 & 2029 respectively. They sadly won’t of course.

He had it all tall, and that gorgeous head of hair is jet black man and when I watched him in Yellowstone, he still has it in the bag I tell ya and he wears a suit like a second skin and when he does pass from this world and goes to the next it will be the saddest day for us Timothy, Dalton fans and James bond fans, but at least he leaves the legacy of films and TV shows to give us an an awesome James Bond

Yes! I love that Dalton is his favorite! I think he was magnificent and close to the character from the book. I just think that the film he was doing at the time let him down a bit. Imagine if Dalton had done something on the level of Casino Royale, for example.
Dalton was a fantastic Bond. He did most of his own stunts, he brought that inner conflict of not quite being sure about his job and place in the world that's in the novels, and he has a great speaking voice. I wish they'd kept in the scene in LTK where he's just watching Sanchez on TV - planning, drinking, and smoking. It's very Fleming-esque. Both The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill are in my top 10 Bond films. TLD my top 5. I wish he did GoldenEye. It wouldve been great to see him go up against Sean Bean.
The Living Daylights is the first film in which Bond displays insubordination. It is warranted and Bond carries out his disobedience skillully. Everyone else in Bond's outfit wants to take the easiest route and ignore the signs of fraud that Bond is detecting. In the sniper scene Bond makes a decision that turns out to be right, and gets a bucket of dirty water thrown in his face by an envious colleague. After the event Bond has to work hard to get M on his side, and has to keep a stiff upper lip when his colleague Saunders doesn't. In Licence To Kill they turned Bond's independent-mindedness into a joke. Dalton was forced to perform a parody of the character he had created. What is peculiar about the Bond girl in The Living Daylights is that she is not just a pretty thing with lots of money. She does something. She plays a musical instrument. That girl seems to be quite happy in her modest little life in Communist Czechoslovakia until she is drawn into intrigue and deceit, and has no choice but to be rescued by Bond. Bond needs her as an intelligence asset and is ready to use sex as a tool of information gathering, because that is part of his job. Bond could have just used her and tossed her in the gutter. In real life that probably would have happened. Instead, Bond has the adventure with her and then takes her back to where she likes to be, a concert hall. After f*cking her of course.
I must admit, it took me 20 years to like Dalton. I was still in high school when i saw living daylights. I am a Roger Moore fan. I was expecting another Roger Moore but I realized that, generations changed and the character needs to be updated. Every Bond actor brings something different to the role, I don't like any of the Daniel Craigs bond film. Casino Royale was ok , but the others were all crap
Great Dalton study - in particular the coffee snobbery scene - I am also a gourmet snob and can testify to this! (George Lazenby’s final scene is still , for me, the most heartbraking acting in the history of Bond. …”we have all the time in the World…”
Really great, i completly agree that scene was Dalton´s best scene even though License to Kill is a better picture. The relationship with Saunders was not on good terms earlier in teh movie nut in this scene Dalton´s bond thanks Saunders for his efforts and it his suttle expressions that show Saunders that he is very thankful for his work and so when he gets murdered it makes him furious. Great choice of scenes! I saw License to Kill in the theatre(my first Bond on the big screen)and it is a favourite of mine. A shame Dalton did not get to do a third. I truly enjoy watching him and for those who say Dalton isn´t funny watch Hot Fuzz,he is hilarious in that one!! ¨You know how it is, news travels fast!!¨

Timothy Dalton did a great performance of both movies and his bond was so much closer to what the character really truly was so he did lay down some building blocks Pierce brosnan was fun to watch and I do like Pierce brosnan but everyone has their guy Timothy Dalton came so close if he was offered to do a remake of never say never again I would see that movie in a heartbeat but who really knows at this moment in time Timothy Dalton by far is a great actor but all the actors who have betrayed James Bond they're all good it's a great franchise I was sorry and sad to see that Daniel Craig ended his tenure but hey he's in his fifties I'm in my fifties Timothy Dalton is a great actor. Yes. I immediately liked and approved Dalton as Bond. And i certainly may offend some here, but i never liked Craig as Bond. Yes. great action scenes etc. but he just wasnt Bond to me. He played the part for too long , and couldnt wait for him to leave. But i honestly believe in this pathetic "woke" world , we will never have the same enjoyment and escapism that many of the other films gave us. 15:02

He wasn't dark and brooding. I think he was simply dedicated and committed to playing the part seriously. I think he exuded professionalism.

A Bond who is burned out, sick of the job, but keeps doing it because there isn't anyone as good as him to take his place and his loyalty to Queen (now King) and Country was greater than his loyalty to himself. The two scenes listed here are among my all time favorites, too. But I'd add another. When Bond fails to kill Kara when she was the sniper in the window, and he tells Saunders, "Stuff my orders," and all of the following dialogue ("If they fire me I'll thank them.") and expressions from Dalton - it's simply brilliant. Those three scenes, to me, made Dalton the all time greatest Bond. The only Bond that really followed what was on the page in Ian Fleming's novels. Dalton was brilliant, and it just kills me that he never got that third Bond movie.

Timothy Dalton has always been my favorite bond, his acting, you could really belive that Dalton is bond, his looks everything about him, probably the biggest let down of all the bond movies is that Dalton only did the two, I really believe that if Dalton did 5 bond movies up to goldeneye, he would have been the best bond ever.

OHMSS is a VERY good movie. Do not discredit the solo Bond performance. Dalton is also an incredible Bond. He was not appreciated during his day but most Bond fans today hold his movies in very high regard.

I agree with all that was said in this. My introduction to Bond was via the books before seeing the Connery films, which I thought were okay, but Bond in those was different, it wasn't until I saw Timothy Dalton's Bond I again met the Bond from the books, not the playboy Bond or womaniser Bond of the earlier films, he cared about the women he met and took his job seriously, all that he had experienced weighed heavily upon him.
Yup. Im a Daltonite; and have been since seeing TLD on original release. He was up for doing a third movie, studio and production loved working with him. Ultra professional, accompished actor. Looked the part, was the part.
LTK was a relatively violent Bond. Brought out the cold assassinator element.

I forgot to mention that I went to see Mr Dalton and Vanessa Redgrave in the Touch of the poet at the young Vic. About 1988 or so. Incredible. I could feel the actor's breath on me. I've been fortunate.

roles on of the best actors, embodying a role with micro expression brillance like a chamaleon and never plays like 90% of all other modern actors. his speech and Declamation skills and virtuosity are 100% on point till in breath intonation, pauses and voice color like greatest Operasinger does.

You are spot on about his facial expressions. Among all the actors who have played Bond, i always get the sense that he does the best 'acting'. I couldn't explain it properly. But now i have a video that does that.
You can probably make everything work by pure charm and charisma as James Bond. Say someone like Adam West when he played Bruce Wayne.
That's probably why he's unnoticed in the Bond fan community. I love his performance. The fact that both of his films while not perfect are really really good.
And you get the vibe that he should have been the villain. While playing the hero he can be so menacing.

Chris Nolan is my favorite director and I’ve always liked Timothy Dalton’s performance as Bond the most.. just cool to know we feel the same way.
I personally prefer Living Daylights to License to Kill. I like the more complex narrative of Daylights. I like the movies where Bond has to play detective to figure out what's going on and who the bad guy really is. And, yes, the final confrontation in Daylights is meh, the penultimate action set piece with the plane is one of the greatest in Bond history. That's the real finale for me.
If Dalton did a third film, maybe he could have cemented the role of Bond. Two movies is not really enough.

We seldom see anymore on screen great classical artists like Dalton who thrilled the audience with their enormous talents, charm, wit, class and sophistication. Nowadays we see nothing but eye candy, muscular six pack abs individuals who lack acting abilities but called themselves artists.
This was my favorite Bond film growing up.
I left Bond after Dalton took over. I grew up with Roger Moore and....well. Now I'm a fan of Dalton. Go figure.
Dalton I think is the only actor out of all of them who already had an established career BEFORE he was bond. Like he had more than one role that he was known before he did bond. The others as good as they were had roles before doing bond but it was bond that was a career defining role for them, that wasn’t the case for dalton. To him bond was just another role to add to his resume

I think Timothy Dalton has a natural menace and presence of cold cruelty and anger, I LOVED him in Hot Fuzz and think he brings an element of Villainy into any role
That close-up? Benson nailed it, I believe, when he wrote that Bond doesn't know if he can trust Kara, did she have a hand in what just happened? He already didn't trust Koskov, but Kara was an unproven quantity who hadn't given him reason not to trust her, until maybe now. And he's just had the Whittaker dot connected to the Koskov dot. Meanwhile, another agent is dead in front of him and all he knows is Koskov is pointing the finger at Pushkin, even although he already has major doubts about Koskov.
With all of that going through his head, it's not hard to understand why his primary emotion isn't clear.
Dalton was most excellent in TLD, a vastly superior film to that of GoldenEye. However, I felt Licence to Kill let him down badly with its scaled back production costs and location change from China to Mexico. What I wouldn't have given to see Dalton's Bond jump the Great Wall of China on a motorbike, one of the planned stunts for the original movie.

I've always thought "GoldenEye", too, is average; I myself prefer TLD, it has a better flair and feels much more like classic Bond.

I agree with Mr. Nolan's high estimation of Timothy Dalton. And one thing that leaps out at the viewer in his portrayal is that--no matter what his egoism or sense of espionage angst tells him--this Bond is always looking around, scanning the scene for hidden dangers more than any of the actors around him, and he can tap into that ability to protect others, as we see in his early scenes with Jeroen Krabbe, or with Maryam D'Abo (when he sees her naively exposed to the enemy at the Russian airbase and yanks her back to safety).
Dalton in TLD is by far the best character study of the Bond character in any of the movies. I find the relationship with Kara to be the only believable one of any Bond film (yes that includes Casino Royale which I personally find quite forced). You can actually see Dalton emotionally changing throughout the film as Kara's kinder nature starts to rub off on him.
I remember seeing it properly ages and thinking, this. This is how Bond should have been portrayed after OHMSS
I grant you that close-up of Dalton is very powerful and the only one that compares to Craig's in the Casino Royale torture scene, but according to the commentary track, it was second unit director Arthur Wooster that shot that scene. It seems so much different in its framing and moody, yet naturalistic lighting, compared to other scenes in the film, as Glenn tended to shot everything in medium and mastershots. He was never that bold in his directing, but another rare close-up of Dalton is in Licence to Kill when he finds out from Pam, that he's further complicated matters by going on a personal vendetta. The stark realization on his face is so clear, that there was no need to further pad out the scene of Bond making some kind of dramatic, intimate speech... You just feel what he's thinking. Dalton was (and is) such a great internal actor, that it's a shame that Glen didn't take more advantage of how expressive he is.
I love Timmy D. so much :)))) I play the TLD soundtrack in my car very often, it's beautiful and transports me to the movie.

Considering the Nolan Batman movies borrow scenes from Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, this is not a surprise
A bond with blood and flesh, true feelings, yet handsome. Love Timothy and Maryam’s act
You can say that you started fall in love with her and the way he looked at her in the way she looked at him. It’s all you need to know, and I think when he met her, he started to really think that he could actually have a life, and he started feeling again more than dead inside Kara gave him purpose, and I think he truly loved her and you got to think about it. She truly loved him It takes a woman with true character and strength to ride into harms way to be with a man that she loves and you can see through the movie that I’m getting to know each other. It was a slow burn but it was there and I think this is what James Bond needed he needed to have help again, and she gave it to him.
And that is hope
Quality of old Bond scripts is not comparable with scripts of today's.

It was such a shame that Timothy Dalton disappeared for years after Bond. Resurfacing beautifully slimely for Hot Fuzz and his brilliant fuming Rasillion in Tennant's Doctor Who, "Gallifrey Rises!!".

Moore has always been my favourite Bond but Dalton has always been underated .

Thx for an excellent video. I knew immediately that Dalton was going to be the best to portray Bond. It had been long overdue to move on from the comic bufoonery of Roger Moore, whose act had worn thin. Just wish the producers had stuck with Dalton, but alas not to be. We have 2 films to treasure the memory of the Bond Ian Fleming envisioned being brought to the big screen.

People just didn't get it, is why they prefer the Brosnan's and the Craig's versions, both of which are all made for the stupid people of the world who don't understand, who prefer to munch on popcorn while they waste 2 hours being "entertained" rather than be informed or have to be force to think! People don't want to think, they want Bond to represent themselves, clueless and bungling but gets all the fun and all the action and women who throw themselves at him, supposedly. LMAO That's why Craig's Bond fails on ALL COUNTS, it's amazing how LAZY Sam Mendes was in his rip off of the French New Wave and Truffaut, it's ridiculous how the imitation of the supposed love lost sentimental B.S. Mendes tried to infuse into Craig's Bond ended up with Bond dying in the final instalment (yes we know Mendes didn't direct it, but he almost did).
Brosnan was just a caricature joke, purely done for box office money, not to represent the novel realism, even Roger Moore started out as intense and in your face, and even that had to be changed because the producers felt that they didn't want anybody using that to represent the British Man in general as a stereotype gruesome animal with no humanity, you see? is why they went the comic comedy way, after all, it was also the time of Monty Python and Peter Sellars when Moore was trying his bit, and Brits wanted to distance itself and its men from the historical brutes of war and Imperialism but rather a jovial gentleman with a sense of humour and decency.

When I see the waiters mouth move but no dialogue audible it always reminds me of the WorkPrint version of the movie where the waiter says “I’ll get a stretcher” & Bond replies “Better make that two” suggesting that Saunders was cut in half. For the theatrical release they decided to leave it to the imagination & used the “Better make that two” line for the pre title sequence. The WP also shows that they toned down how abrupt Bond was with Saunders during the Koskov defection scene. A couple of words were also changed Bond calls Koskov “General” in the the movie, but calls him “Georgi” in the WP. Also they changed him telling Saunders to meet him at the “bridge” to meet him at the “border” which happens to be on a bridge. I do however wish they had left scene between M & Bond as it was in the WP. After Bond says “it was a split second decision, it was instinct”, M replies “Or accidie?” & Bond says “revulsion with one’s occupation”. It actually sums Bond up pretty well & the extended scene was wonderful, sadly the went for the shorter version which just goes to recalling 008 etc.
Dalton has always been my favourite Bond & the greatest shame of the franchise is that he only did the two movies.

The sniper scene is strange without music & the abrupt “better” when Bond activates Saunders night vision shows his frustration at this guy he doesn’t really want to work with before of course Saunders winning him over just before his death.
There is also a very small clip from the Licence to Kill WP where Bond calls Lupe a “lying slut” on the Wavekrest. There is also a wonderful sinister laugh just after the “compliments of Sharky” killing.
Both WPs use music from old Bond movies, the LTK one uses mainly AVTAK whereas the LD one uses that plus music from Goldfinger. It would be great if they included the workprints on the 40th anniversary Blu rays in 2027 & 2029 respectively. They sadly won’t of course.
Where does one get to view these work print versions? The sound very illuminating into the creative development of their respective films.

It’s a deep like a baritone voice. He had it all tall, and that gorgeous head of hair is jet black man and when I watched him in Yellowstone, he still has it in the bag I tell ya and he wears a suit like a second skin and when he does pass from this world and goes to the next it will be the saddest day for us Timothy, Dalton fans and James bond fans, but at least he leaves the legacy of films and TV shows to give us an an awesome James Bond

Yes! I love that Dalton is his favorite! I think he was magnificent and close to the character from the book. I just think that the film he was doing at the time let him down a bit. Imagine if Dalton had done something on the level of Casino Royale, for example.
Dalton was a fantastic Bond. He did most of his own stunts, he brought that inner conflict of not quite being sure about his job and place in the world that's in the novels, and he has a great speaking voice. I wish they'd kept in the scene in LTK where he's just watching Sanchez on TV - planning, drinking, and smoking. It's very Fleming-esque.
Both The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill are in my top 10 Bond films. TLD my top 5. I wish he did GoldenEye. It wouldve been great to see him go up against Sean Bean.
The Living Daylights is the first film in which Bond displays insubordination. It is warranted and Bond carries out his disobedience skillully. Everyone else in Bond's outfit wants to take the easiest route and ignore the signs of fraud that Bond is detecting. In the sniper scene Bond makes a decision that turns out to be right, and gets a bucket of dirty water thrown in his face by an envious colleague. After the event Bond has to work hard to get M on his side, and has to keep a stiff upper lip when his colleague Saunders doesn't.
In Licence To Kill they turned Bond's independent-mindedness into a joke. Dalton was forced to perform a parody of the character he had created.
What is peculiar about the Bond girl in The Living Daylights is that she is not just a pretty thing with lots of money. She does something. She plays a musical instrument. That girl seems to be quite happy in her modest little life in Communist Czechoslovakia until she is drawn into intrigue and deceit, and has no choice but to be rescued by Bond. Bond needs her as an intelligence asset and is ready to use sex as a tool of information gathering, because that is part of his job. Bond could have just used her and tossed her in the gutter. In real life that probably would have happened. Instead, Bond has the adventure with her and then takes her back to where she likes to be, a concert hall. After f*cking her of course.

I must admit, it took me 20 years to like Dalton. I was still in high school when i saw living daylights. I am a Roger Moore fan. I was expecting another Roger Moore but I realized that, generations changed and the character needs to be updated. Every Bond actor brings something different to the role, I don't like any of the Daniel Craigs bond film. Casino Royale was ok , but the others were all crap

The relationship with Saunders was not on good terms earlier in teh movie nut in this scene Dalton´s bond thanks Saunders for his efforts and it his suttle expressions that show Saunders that he is very thankful for his work and so when he gets murdered it makes him furious. Great choice of scenes! I saw License to Kill in the theatre(my first Bond on the big screen)and it is a favourite of mine.
A shame Dalton did not get to do a third.

Timothy Dalton did a great performance of both movies and his bond was so much closer to what the character really truly was so he did lay down some building blocks Pierce brosnan was fun to watch and I do like Pierce brosnan but everyone has their guy Timothy Dalton came so close if he was offered to do a remake of never say never again I would see that movie in a heartbeat but who really knows at this moment in time Timothy Dalton by far is a great actor but all the actors who have betrayed James Bond they're all good it's a great franchise I was sorry and sad to see that Daniel Craig ended his tenure but hey he's in his fifties I'm in my fifties Timothy Dalton is a great actor. Yes. I immediately liked and approved Dalton as Bond. And i certainly may offend some here, but i never liked Craig as Bond. Yes. great action scenes etc. but he just wasnt Bond to me. He played the part for too long , and couldnt wait for him to leave. But i honestly believe in this pathetic "woke" world , we will never have the same enjoyment and escapism that many of the other films gave us. 15:02
