Maybe less obvious to Mat, but what also makes your videos a pleasure to watch for me is the tone of your voice, your banter, British accent and self-deprecating humor. And thank you Ross for the high quality editing! Looking forward to the next 100.
Way to go, Mat and Ross! Mat, you stayed with me and Maggie in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, while on the TransAm ride. It was a blast and I’m glad we were able to play a small part in your adventure. Keep up the great work!
Great to finally see Ross. We just finished watching and enjoyed it. It is obvious I feel extremely lucky that a moment you remember was in our Little Hunting Creek. That was a lucky week, fall crispiness, end in sight and a few days of relaxation. I feel so great knowing we added a bright moment for your already very colorful reportoire. Stay safe. Regards from me and Leslie. Hope to see you on your next US adventure. Ghandi
Fantastic boys🎉 well done on your achievements and hard work, in front and behind the scenes. The enthusiasm almost always shines through😂. All the best for your brand and future fun and games. Keep it up😊
My wife and I enjoy videos that take us to places we'd never see. However there are a ton of travel videos and they all seem the same and have become boring. We found your channel because of cycling but it's less about that now. Truthfully, you have a sense of humor. Having a beer with locals, meeting nice people and eating the most junk food one can consume in the name of bike touring is appreciated. The Trans Am gave me some hope that others will see there are good people in America. We appreciated the fact that you had a good experience in our country. My wife and I considered driving out to meet you but your trail was a bit too out of range for us during that time. In retrospect there were many who did so you had company. Congrats on the milestone. We are looking forward to what's next.
Thanks. I'll take this as a request to keep eating junk food and drinking beer 🤣. Seriously though, America is full of great people and I'm glad it comes across in these videos. Cheers.
10 mins in. All I watch virtually is youtube. As much as your videos are the best and most interesting and Id love more, too many people bow to that pressure and the quality drops. It really shows when you're having a good time and enjoying it. I'd rather wait for your videos and have them be as fun and interesting as these 100. You both do a great job. I believe the channel will grow organically as it must appeal to so many people. Good luck, and thank you. 👍🏻 Jim. Portsmouth.
I loved the European videos, especially the French sections, which were so beautiful. I would love to see you do a London to Istanbul bikepacking tour like @PursuingMountains did. Maybe too much road riding than you'd want to do though.
YES!!! 2 Years of entertaining, varied, well edited content. You come across as authentic Mat and you have interests that are easily relatable. We thoroughly enjoy viewing, be it grinding out the miles uphill, avoiding those pesky drivers on iffty roads, finding a haf decent van parking spot or burning a sausage in the woods! (ooooh errrr). Keep on going, best of luck, thank you both for sharing.
Too funny - my family has a long-standing story about an argument between one of my great aunts and her husband about whether to cut the hot dog rolls vertically or horizontally, which in the telling went on for hours (no idea if it really did) culminating in the realization that the buns were cut already. I'm so happy to find this experience is not 100% unique :-D
Congrats on your great team. Mat in front of the camera with humor and observations, and Ross with the real brains running the show, hahah, just teasing. You're both very talented and create excellent videos. ☮
Loved following your channel for the last 18 or so months. Without you I wouldn't have invested in my Broken Road and Tailfin gear, so I'm 3 grand down now thanks to you! :D. But also sincerely thank you for your emailed help when I was buying the Tailfin rack and the axle choice. Looking forward to all your coming adventures!
Congratulations Matt and Ross. I started watching as you went across America on the TransAmerican route. Since then I have started watching your other videos. Thank you so much for your content.
I watched a video several years ago of a couple who biked through Vietnam, Cambodia , Laos etc. It was very interesting and showed a culture and world that few people get to see and experience. So that's my suggestion.
In reply to your question at the end of the video, whatever you enjoy doing works as the enthusiasm comes across when I watch. Your future potential plans of New Zealand, campervan trip and the hike all sound great. Me and my wife like the idea of a European trip for ourselves so thats something we would enjoy watching. (Still hoping for a group ride one day too😊) Dan, Cornwall
Projects always evolve and change. We start out one way, and we tend to end up completely the opposite. This doesn't mean that we still aren't what we started out to be, precisely; it sinply means that we become more via the journey, which is the timber of existence.
My brother and I watch a lot of touring videos and it's easy to see how social you are and how that tracker aided your trip. Without that tracker active, you very easily could have met only one or two or even no people. It can be a very solitary exercise. You should probably try to get a sponsorship by Garmin. You really showed the possibilities inherent in a tracker. I'd like to see a ride with Simon a bloke in the woods and some discussion on camp food. He really has it sauced. Excellent work all around, very enjoyable viewing. We will be following your exploits in the future. Cheers.
Good idea, Simon a bloke in the woods is great, they would be great to watch in an adventure together! They don’t live a million miles away from each other either 👍
Just found your stuff a week ago but your Great Divide stuff sucked me in . I had mentioned I binged it in a night. Anyhow enjoy your videos. They are honest and to the point ,most of all it’s clear you enjoy it. Well done!
In response to your request for suggestions, I would enjoy a Q&A episode. My question is, why did you choose to begin your GDMBR ride from Banff, and not from Jasper?
@ great, I would love to hear your answer. I have a couple of more questions if you are fielding some more, but this one is probably the most useful to me. Thanks Mat.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions. You can email me at matryder2@gmail.com if you like. I'll answer your question now though. Ot seems weird making you wait. It was simply due to me being a novice. I didn't feel the need to make the trip any longer get than it already was. The GDMBR has it's official start in Banff. Also, it was an easier transfer from the airport. If I went back in time. I'd start from Jasper as that whole area was stunning and I would want to see more.
Believe I've watch pretty much all your vid's Mat. I'm a real fan and can't wait until you've rested up and are filling us in on your next adventure. All the best.
I love your videos. I love the variety over something forced and too structured. You are great at letting us know where you are and keep it entertaining. You make a great team. I look forward to your next big trip. New Zealand is on my bucket list.
I'd like you to come ride in Japan... Maybe a lap of Hokkaido or Shikoku in summer. Japan is an amazing place and so cheap for people visiting nowadays.
Hey Mat, Thank you for posting another outstanding video. ¿Would you please share with everyone the BEST and NOT SO BEST trip across America? Thank you, Dave in Ft Collins, Colorado USA
Hey Matt and Ross! I would love to learn more about your production process; how you film and edit, how you choose content, and the equipment you use. My daughter and I are planning a trans-America trip and would love to use the same great format you two have perfected.😊 Respectfully, Scott
Hi Scott. I was thinking of making a video along these lines but it might not be for a while. In the meantime, I'm happy to discuss these things by email. Here's my address matryder2@gmail.com
Discovered your channel about a month ago. Have totally enjoyed your adventures. I’m a triathlete and cyclist and I see myself taking more bike adventures. Your channel has inspired me to look in this direction.
Congrats on the 100th video. Am looking forward to 2025, and especially a packing / preparation video for your Arizona Trail. Wishing you both a great holiday season as it is upon us. Cheers.
SIMPLY , you guys are awesome so whatever you decide to do will be great. Not much help but maybe it is. Thanks again for another great video. Mark from Maryland 😊
Great to hear that the channel is now funding future trips, thats an awesome achievement!. I’d really appreciate another “ask me anything” type live stream (trans am focused) like you did after the GDMBR trip. Or at least an opportunity to bend your ear as Im doing pretty much your route in reverse next summer. And would appreciate a sounding board.
Hi Mat and Ross, perhaps you could do the Sounds to sounds in NZ whilst you’re there. For a future adventure have a look at the Munda Biddi trail in Western Australia or perhaps the Mawson trail in South Australia. Anyway I’m sure where ever you go it will be great viewing.
Hey Mat, I watched this earlier today, and just wanted to say that it's always fun to see the banter between you and Ross. It's quite entertaining, even without you two even trying. It's good to see other people eating low nutritional value foods, day drinking, whilst riding bikes in the woods. My riding season just wrapped up here in this part of the PNW, so I'll be hiking a bit, and riding the indoor smart trainer for the next few months. Looking forward to seeing a summer bike tour in the Southern Hemisphere to get me through the dank winter months here. Congrats on the milestones!
Daytime drinking.... 😁 Brilliant! - BTW: I have contributed to the watched time indeed. 4 times I have watched your epic GDMBR. 😅 It is just that good. And @Ross Lies. You make Mat look good. 😁 A suggestion --> bikepack the lenght of Norway (coastal roads). Lindesnes to Nordkapp.
Congrats on on the growth of your channel. Well deserved! Started following when you hit the KATY trail and have watched many others in the meantime. Cheers from Indiana, USA!
Matt, that was me who made that comment about the 'relatability' of the TA vs the GDMBR. Again, not a criticism, just a statement (as I loved this series as well). That being said, as a suggestion for some other ideas, why not embrace your channel and your popularity? Maybe do a ride for a couple of weeks (from NYC to Miami, as an example as I have no idea how long that would take), but ONLY try and do it with the support of your amazing subscribers?! Rely on your subscribers to accompany you, buy you lunches and put you up for the night (so it wouldn't cost you anything). I would love that series. Congrats to you and Ross for another amazing series.
Absolutely love your channel - it’s a great mix of travel narrative, humor, and just the right amount of location info. Great to see the number of subscribers increasing - congratulations. Btw- just back from a trip west: came home along WY 26 between Shoshoni and Casper. A lovely 40 mph crosswind reminded me of how hard that section was for you on the BNS. All best wishes for future trips - looking forward to following along. And a huge thank you to Ross for his superb editing (plus a great sense of humor).
Hi Mat, there’s a great book by Mike Carter, One man and his bike. He cycled the coast of Britain, I think that would make an interesting series. Congrats on all the subscribers.
Thanks for all the great content. I have enjoyed it all 👍. I would like to see you ride John O’Groats to Lands End on a high wheel bike - since you asked 🤔😀🤣
Congrats on two years! I think I may be subscriber number 12,401 (a guess). Drinking a beer does help arrest the rapid weight loss on these bike tours. I recall walking from the subway to my hotel in Oakland after a 3,000 mile bike tour. One hand to hold my duffle and the other to keep my shorts from sliding off. I am looking forward to your New Zealand trip. As for me, once I work out some medical issues I may do the Natchez Trace, a highway along an old Indian trail in Mississippi. Alabama, and Tennessee.
Mat, One suggestion I have is a trip South to North on the GDMBR. Very few videos are made going in the reverse direction. It would be interesting to do this ride going North while the GDMBR racers are coming South, catching some at their rest stops along the way, seeing how the racers are doing, perhaps catching some as they drop out of the race.
@@matryderadventures Still watching along, just now your a megastar...... 😉 I didn't think you needed the moral support of lots of comments anymore? Unless of course your narcissistic ego needs massaging and I might start again. 🙊🤣 If you fancy a free motorhome pitch for the night and guided day ride of my local bridleways, the offer still holds. (Just about!) I did spot a new badger sett the other day..... 🤣 Best. E
I'm planning to watch your European videos over the winter. I watched the U.S. ones because I'm xenophobic :-) and all that jazz, but I've only watched a few of the others. But now that we've met and I know more about you, I'll be watching most everything I've missed over the course of the winter. All while keeping up with you in NZ when those videos become available. And of course, your videos are not typical of most long distance riders because you advertise that you're out there, and thanks to technology, it is easy for folks to track you down. That's how I knew for sure it was you when I met you in Montana. You were with Pat and I didn't know that, so when I saw two riders, I sort of thought you must be close behind that pair. But one look at your Garmin feed and I knew I had the right folks. Keep in mind, this day and age, where most of us separated from others by technology, having it be beneficial is a good thing. Not only for you, but for those of us who managed to meet up with you on your trip. It was memorable for me as well.
Hi Bob. I hope you're well. I like your observation about technology in some instances helping to meet up. It's not all bad and it certainly benefited me. Cheers.
Welldone and congratulations for all your hard work guys, turn the gas down a little mind, yes great adventures and the summing up of those trips has given us another enjoyable video, and what would we subscribers like to see, well what about port of Dover to Santiago de Compostela ? or your home to Dover, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland ? Sounds good anyway, great video thanks for sharing Mat 👏👋
Trip Suggestion: I’ve alwaydreamed of doing a long trip on a bicycle without using a map. Years ago while in a camping trip with motorcycles, my friend asked the route I would take home from upstate New York to home in New Jersey? (About a 300km ride) I said “ why don’t we wing it & take back roads?” He thought I was kidding, but we did the whole trip without using the map. A multi day trip would be even more challenging and adventurous!
Top notch content 👌 congratulations to both of you. Future content, how about a 90's sportbike along the silk road?, some rock scrambles or easy roped climbs?, self supported Munro round?. Endless options really, look forward to whatever it turns out to be.
@@matryderreviews they're built for going fast on, think bar my current speed triple I've crashed every one of the bikes I've owned. Not proud of it, but they're just too damn seductive on a WOT!! 😁
@ 7:19 coffee boils!!! for heavens sake don´t boil the coffee like a pot of potatoes:( When it starts to boil, immediately shut off the burner, stir and wait for 10 minutes. The grounds are now at the bottom without adding water and ruining your coffee. Im sorry i had to say this Matt, but you left me no choice.. congrats on your 100th Video!!
@@matryderadventures No, you didnt. I'm asking about the chair in this video. Which ypu mention being in a previous video. But, the intended (I think) link to that video does not feature the chair The Trekology is not as 'similar' as the one you have there
Solo overnight bikepacking trips could be as interesting as the GDMBR. 1 day to film, 3 to 5 hours to edit. More content, consistently uploaded = exponential growth. Ross is a fine editor, when he gets too busy to make all this magic happen ... contact me. I'll help.
Have you ever said who Ross is? Is he your ward, the Robin to your Batman? An adopted son? Mentor, mentee? I listened to that 2 hour podcast you were on, and he never asked! I cant sleep nights wondering who is Ross?
I'll add this question to our list for the next Q&A video if that's OK. You'll have to watch it to find out. You won't believe the amazing truth (clickbait)
all the people meeting changes the subject of the videos from bikepacking to socializing, making them less interesting and less relatable (at least to me)
Maybe less obvious to Mat, but what also makes your videos a pleasure to watch for me is the tone of your voice, your banter, British accent and self-deprecating humor. And thank you Ross for the high quality editing! Looking forward to the next 100.

I like this idea. I can definitely see myself riding the Divide again and this would make it a distinct experience. Cheers.
Snare-ring badgers! Classic Bert. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 Ernie!!! Where have you been?
@@matryderadventures Still watching along, just now your a megastar...... 😉
I didn't think you needed the moral support of lots of comments anymore?
Unless of course your narcissistic ego needs massaging and I might start again. 🙊🤣
If you fancy a free motorhome pitch for the night and guided day ride of my local bridleways, the offer still holds.
(Just about!)
I did spot a new badger sett the other day..... 🤣
Best. E
I need the comments. My ego will never be big enough. Maybe we can work something out in the summer next year, once I'm back from NZ. Cheers B
love you videos!!
Thanks. Great suggestions. I will definitley be exploring more of Europe once the NZ trip is done. Cheers.
They are called "no data rides." Very popular amongst cyclists in the know.
Interesting.
Great idea. I'll take note and try this at some point. Maybe with only a compass.
Top notch content 👌 congratulations to both of you.
Future content, how about a 90's sportbike along the silk road?, some rock scrambles or easy roped climbs?, self supported Munro round?. Endless options really, look forward to whatever it turns out to be.
Great suggestions. The 90's sportbike especially.
@matryderadventures maybe an rgv 250 if you really wanna suffer, or a cbr if you want to survive it 😂😂
@@steviecoles1532 I'd love and RGV250. I had a 350LC when I was younger. Smashed it to pieces.
@@matryderreviews they're built for going fast on, think bar my current speed triple I've crashed every one of the bikes I've owned. Not proud of it, but they're just too damn seductive on a WOT!! 😁
Great team! ❤
Happy 100th video 🎂🎈🎈
🙏🏻
👍
Based upon your love of a brew or two, maybe you could do a review called 'Beers of the Planet' or something similar as you travel the world 🤔
I like it...slippery slope, here I come.
Are you going to do the ragbrai in iowa sometime?
Maybe one day. It looks like a crazy experience.
10Jan next best day off the week after new bike day, its my new knee operation day .
We both have cause to celebrate that day. Good luck with it all.
Mat. Did you carry a laptop or some other device to upload your videos? If so what case do you use to protect it? Thanks.
Hi. I uploaded everything via my phone so can't help you there sorry.
Thanks
What was the brand of chair you guys used. I know you compared it to the Helinox in the ‘cheap’ gear video but can’t see a name check or link. Thanks
Mine are not branded. There are loads of them on Amazon, all with different names. I know Trekology make one..
@ thank you!!
@ 7:19 coffee boils!!! for heavens sake don´t boil the coffee like a pot of potatoes:(
When it starts to boil, immediately shut off the burner, stir and wait for 10 minutes. The grounds are now at the bottom without adding water and ruining your coffee. Im sorry i had to say this Matt, but you left me no choice.. congrats on your 100th Video!!
I am always happy to be educated about making coffee 👍👍. I'll do as you say next time.
The budget video linked to has a stool and not the helinox copy. What make if the copy featured in here?
I can't remember the make. It was on Amazon. I know Trekology make one. If you search lightweight camping chair you'll find loads.
I misunderstood. The stool.is from a company called Alpkit.
@@matryderadventures No, you didnt. I'm asking about the chair in this video. Which ypu mention being in a previous video. But, the intended (I think) link to that video does not feature the chair
The Trekology is not as 'similar' as the one you have there
Solo overnight bikepacking trips could be as interesting as the GDMBR.
@@matryderadventures I will be all pins and needles as I wait for the answer.
just discovered your channel. How old are you? Are you retired?
I'm 51 and not retired. I'm working part time for a while so I can hopefully grow this channel.
You have just ruined my dinner. I've got fish but I want your sausage baps now.
Was the fish good?
You’re not an alcoholic Mat. Alcoholics go to meetings.
Ross apparently likes riding as well. Why does he not go on some of the longer rides with you? If it's personal don't bother replying.
Bikes sound like rattle traps. ..lol
Hot Dogs - The hot dogs you're cooking look nothing like American hot dogs.
Brilliant love your videos Matt but the two of you together is so funny! Carry on the good work can’t wait till the next one! 😄👏
Don't you british guys call those "bangers"?
We do. I don't know why though. It's an odd name.
all the people meeting changes the subject of the videos from bikepacking to socializing, making them less interesting and less relatable (at least to me)
