Dear Lizzy, I do agree that you should only do testing basics of items that you personally really like to wear (since it can get very expensive). However, I like the honesty in your videos when you are evaluating the products, which makes this series for me. Please do not stop saying what you dislike about a product even if it is a tiny detail because some people think that it is "negative". Like I said, your honesty and attention to detail in evaluating the products is what makes this series great.
Great points about the height of the boot on the leg and where your pants hit. Would love to see how the Basics can be styled differently I.e can you wear Chelsea boots with skirts? Long-length trousers, etc. PS I’m excited to look out for Church’s brand when I visit London next year. I think a video covering UK based brands would be cool. I love hearing about and supporting home-based brands when I’m both home and traveling. Thanks for the great videos!
Oh, I can’t stop praising Testing Basics and it feels like I never will. In the beginning of the season I rewatched your Ankle boots TB and found out that gorgeous Croc-styled boots from Dune London were on the 40% sale and available in my size. So I ordered them right away and they arrived a couple of days ago. They are just as amazing as you described, I am beyond happy. And I am very sorry if the comments (including mine) under your Trench coat TB made you feel like you’ve disappointed us with the “negativity” of the episode. What I wanted to tell you is that we were sad because those coats made you regret buying them. All we want is for you to be happy while doing all of TB projects. Although, I personally believe that ACNE trench coat looks marvelous if buttoned up (like it is featured on the official website). Maybe you should give it another chance? I hope you read my comment and wising you all the best, xo
Dear Lizzy, a small request to film without the table (the amazing table) in front because I would love to see the full outfit and in this video we could not see the shoes. Other than that, when you are happy it shows in your content. Looking forward for brogues or oxfords.
Stavroula Staikou yup..I couldn’t agree more. I can’t believe she was talking about the boots because i rarely see it. Hoping next time just move the table or make sure nothing in front of the camera so we know what you’re talking about and we can connect. Anyways, thanks for the insights about the boots
I'm always so excited for your testing basics videos, even when I'm not after the item they're about! I personally didn't find the previous video negative, especially since you were honest from the beginning that you generally don't like trench coats that much. I'm looking forward for a testing basics on knitwear this season too!
Thank you so much! Please let me know if there are any specific types of knitwear you would like to see, or just a general mix? So far from what I have tried I have been loving Weekday for knits! xx
Another possibility: V-neck sweaters. It's such a flattering cut, it would be great to learn about some with an ideal shape and depth of cut for us gals with slightly larger girls. Love your show Lizzy!
I have five pairs of church’s and I absolutely LOVE every pair of them! All soooo comfy and classic. I wear my two pairs of Church’s brogue boots to DEATH every winter (have them for a few years now)and they still look so good!
Amanda Wu when you ordered your Church Brouges, did you order them true to size or did you have to size down? I really want a pair but there isn’t a Church’s near me so it’ll have to be solely online.
The nr 1 shoes looked so gorgeous from the get go and I was interested in how comfortable they would be. The high street does some good boots as you showed here.
I love that you are so gracious in dealing with constructive criticism, it's so refreshing to see and one of the things I really like about you and this channel! This was a great testing basics - never thought I'd see the day &other stories came in last place, what a twist haha! I feel like I remember you saying at some point when testing basics first started that you were thinking of doing one on non-leather boots? Is it something you'd consider? Or would you be able to sprinkle in a few amongst leather options in the future? Since becoming a vegetarian I've really struggled to find decent non-leather shoes, and tend to look at your shoe testing basics with quite a bit of envy!!
This was great! As always :) there is my favorite type of footwear and I feel like I can buy them over and over again. Concerning the last testing basics, I really did not mind you not loving the trenches, moreover I admire the fact you actually went out searched for the ones you could feature, wore them, paid for them (even the ACNE one!) just so we can have a look at different styles and shapes and prices. I think it's honest, therefore I would not consider it a "negative" video. And there was useful feedback for us even tho you personally found them not so great overall...
Manasa Chintapalli | I think the criticism was more that she couldn’t judge them properly as a trench coat. All agreed that it was great she made the effort.
Hi, Lizzy! I think your videos are fantastic. You take your channel seriously and anyone can tell. I really appreciate the fact that you're honest and that video by video, you always bring in something of quality. I really do learn loads from your videos, not only because of specific brands, but also what to consider when buying. Fits, materials, thoughts. You are one of those who take fashion as art and expression, and I absolutely adore that. So thank you!
Love this Lizzy! I do have to say that I love my Acne Jensen boots. I have two pairs and they are great! I stand on my feet on a concrete floor at work all day and these are the boots that I am always grabbing to put on! I hate that you kept repeating your distaste of these boots. They must have done a number on your feet! I love the Church's boots! Thanks for doing these great videos!
I really liked that you pointed out what makes them specifically a “Chelsea” boot. I would love if you could include something like that in all the testing basics of more iconic items.
Thanks for including a heritage brand over a luxury brand for these boots. Really nice to see actual "expert's" boots when it comes to chelsea boots. nice video!
My favs are R.M Williams! I have had my pair for about two years & wear them way more than I should haha. But they still look brand new, would totally recommend them to any boot lover.
Yeah, mine where a bit tight but they quickly wore in! A lot of friends also have them & they love them as much as me. I have also had the clobber put rubber soles on the bottom which also makes them last longer
Regarding the trench coat video: as others here have already stated, it's good that you were honest about your reactions to the items, but I must say that I'm perhaps a bit worried about you possibly feeling the need to spend so much money on items you don't enjoy just for the sake of public demand. I assume you do learn a lot about your personal style in these videos (I, as a viewer, certainly learn about my own preferences just from watching), but I feel like it's a pretty high price to pay for that. I hope you don't feel obliged to keep the things you don't like or wear in your closet. For instance, if the Acne Jensens are causing you so much pain when trying to wear them, why not sell them and get at least some of your investment back? As for this video, as gorgeous as your coffee table is, I agree with other commenters that the camera angle for shooting the outfits wasn't the best. I am currently on the lookout for a long wool coat myself, so your next video will certainly come in handy. I'm really looking forward to that one.
Your Acne Jensen experience is so funny. I've just bought my second pair in the black pebbled leather and, like my first pair which I wore out over three years, there just isn't even any breaking in, they are comfortable from the get-go. I even have the Acne Jenny, which is a lower Jensen, and those were equally comfortable from the start. I wonder what went wrong with yours?
I'm still lusting after the Kurt Geiger Dalby boots from last year but the shoes are a bit pricey for me and the shipping to US is expensive (especially when you're used to free shipping 95% of the time). I'm trying to sell some old clothes and shoes/boots so if I can get enough back on them I'm going to buy the Kurt Geiger ones cause I've been dying to have them for almost a year now. It's definitely way more fun to see you talk about something that you really like so I'm glad you decided not to test items that you don't love or that aren't your style anymore. We all follow you cause we love your style and want to see items that you would genuinely recommend! Also, those Church's boots are beautiful 😍
So weird, I’ve been looking at Chelsea boots for three days and this pops up on utube tonite…. I’m actually glad whatever the reason because I really want to know more about those Church’s Boots, they look like quality to me. I hope I can find them in the states. I was looking at Steve Madden before……
Thank you for your hardwork, i know you love your coffee table but it would have been nicer if we saw you whole length:) cant see how they look with whole outfit
You should definitely try out R.M. Williams boots Lizzy! They're a really great Australian brand and amazing quality, there's a store in London if you're interested :) Great video as usual!
Hi Lizzie, I love your Testing Basics series? Please could you test heeled over the knee boots to compare to the Stuart Weitzman highland / highline boots? I'm so torn as to whether it's worth spending the money on them for this autumn/winter, and I'm sure others are too! 🙈 Xxx
Another great video Lizzy,I could not live without my Chelsea boots a great basic for winter months. You have highlighted some great brands that I will look at when replacing my trusty old ones.x
This was a very very helpful video but the framing of the full OOTD could be improved next time. Not sure standing behind the coffee table was the best angle to show off how the boots looked like with clothes.
Loved this. So helpful for me. I do think I’ll save up a bit and I’ll try to get a pair of Church’s boot next time I’m in London. I didn’t mind the trench coat video. You can’t love every dang thing but it was still helpful for anyone looking for that piece. The only problem with this video is that we couldn’t really see the boot on you bc of the gorgeous coffee table!!
I don’t mind the negative because you give your honest opinion. You thoroughly review the items and give them a try, which is what gives testing basics so real.
I'm one of those who LOVES my Acne Jensens! I actually ordered mine the day before your Ankle Boots Testing Basics came out and I was like oh CRAP haha. But turns out I absolutely love mine. They're so comfy. Just goes to show once again that fashion is so different for everyone, but that's what makes it fun right? :)
can't see the shoes because you are behind the table and so far away but really appreciate you recognizing it yourself and writing it in the caption! you always see your content clearly, I think, which I'm sure can't be easy. It means you genuinely make great stuff -- and get even better all the time. Fave 'tuber!
Such a fan of these series, I love (and am looking to invest in) Chelsea boots, this was perfect timing. Would you be into doing a TB on jewellery in future? I often um-and-ah prices of high end rings and necklaces even though I know they're well made, but I'm curious to see a high street to high end comparison if you're up for it! So looking forward to wool coats x
I too could not wear my Acne Jensen's in! I tried and tried, and it just never happened, it was SO painful. Had to heartbreakingly sell them as I just couldn't keep up with the pain! Everyone recommends and says they soften but after nearly 10 wears plus a tonne of leather softener, it just didn't happen for me!
Just bought the River Island Chelsea Boots :) i didnt find the last video negative, appreciate the honesty as i have tried to get into trench coats and can't either! Love testing basics!
I would have loved to see a short cut-away of a close up of the boots on while you were introducing them like in previous testing basics for shoes! Love the series!! 😊
i love the church's ones! i live in italy and we have it here+ I think they cost less here actually which is weird, but definitely planning on buying them!
Love this, really useful and interesting. I am in love with the Church's boot!!! Would you ever do a test basic black leather handbag? Duno just an idea...
NastyGal does a lot of non-leather shoes and jacket and they are really nice. I'm really loving your videos and your blog since I discovered you, you have such a great content, we can see all the hard work you put into everything you do. Love from France ! (and sorry for my english, might not be the best)
Great review per usual. One thing the table blocked the view of seeing the boots on. Viewing the boots on would help appreciate the length of boot and the fit with the jeans.
I would never think about buying Chelsea boots but I have to agree with you, those Churches ones just have something about them!! I'd love to see a testing basics on light knitwear, I love jumpers like the Bella Freud ones but would like to know whether or not they're worth investing in :) xx
Great video! I was actually on the hunt for a great pair of Chelsea boots so this was really helpful! Lizzy, could you please let us know where the jumper you're wearing when you rank the boots is from? It's gorgeous xx
Great video as always! I have the Jensen Acne studios boots and they are the most comfortable thing in the world! I've noticed that all the people who have bought the smooth leather ones complaint about the same thing as you, mine are in the grained leather and are the best! I love them and wear them every single day! I know they are not cheap but would suggest that you buy the grained leather ones next time :p xx
Hi Lizzie! Love your channel and this series in general. A request for testing basics going forward. Can you list, in the description box, the results in order from most liked to least liked? After I watch the videos, I can never remember which was which, even though you link to the items. Thanks!
Blimey! Those Church's boots are stunning! I dont even have to touch them to see they are beautiful. I love that brogue/oxford styling. Well done Lizzy! :)
Hey! Loved your video as always :) Just wanted to let you know that I have a pair of chelsea boot from Asos own brand and I find that just like their other shoes the soil is just not great for wear and tear. After just a season I had to resoil them because the the heel was so damaged. Even though the leather on top of the shoe is a good quality leather the soil is made out of poor quality material and if you don't want to keep resoiling your timeless chelsea boots every season, i wouldn't recommand them.
Hi Lizzy, love all your videos and look so forward to seeing each one. ❤️ I Live in Canada 🇨🇦 and would love to see how you style the boots with skirts as well. Some of the boots u featured, I can't buy in Canada. 😂 Im looking for similar ones here in black. They are so classic and great asset in a ladies wardrobe. You are such a lovely lady. 😍 Thank you. xx
Can you please purchase a Vince wool coat! And try Everlane for future testing basics :) their whole appeal is their transparent pricing. They tell you the cost of the goods and labor and show you their markup compared to traditional markups! I think you’d get on with the brands aesthetics
I recently got a pair of Jensen dupes from Marc Fisher and while they are kind of a shameless rippoff because they are literally the same, the price was great and they're really comfortable!
With Chelsea boots (as with most things) you get what you pay for--the Church's look better than any of the other brands you tried and are so cool with the wingtip detail.
Thanks for this video Lizzy! I just ordered the River Island boots! They are already sold out on ASOS and I should've bought them as soon as I added them to my bag online; I've ordered them from the River Island website. You are obviously a trusted influencer because of your honest and critical opinions and amazing fashion sense. Keep up the great work, thanks for doing our homework for us. Cheers from Canada.
YAY - ps. i did not think it was negative at all. loved that you went for it anyways, despite not loving the trench. you listen to your subs xx my fav vids from you!
I was staring in the window of Church's a few weeks ago in London and I made a promise to myself that I would buy a pair of their shoes one day. This has convinced me, but I'd definitely try them on first.
i know this would be pretty hard to test in the time frame but would love to know the durability of the boots especially the leather over time and if your opinion would change (i assume maybe the more expensive ones might be more durable?? eg. the and other stories vs the asos?)
I love these videos! Would be really Interesting if you could do a blind testing basics? Not sure how it would work but would be cool to see how you would feel about different items not knowing the exact brand/price, just a thought :) xx
Has anyone got any recommendations for ankle boots that are wide on the actual ankle? I love the look of Chelsea boots but they're always too narrow for my cankles (as in the difference in width between my calves and ankles is very small - I don't even like using that term but it is what it is!)
Hi. Love these videos, but I'm very confused now. Acne jensen came in 2nd place in the test and you said you had broken them in and they were great, but now you're saying they're terrible? I was looking at them after your flat ankle boot video, but now I'm not sure..?
Dear Lizzy, I do agree that you should only do testing basics of items that you personally really like to wear (since it can get very expensive). However, I like the honesty in your videos when you are evaluating the products, which makes this series for me. Please do not stop saying what you dislike about a product even if it is a tiny detail because some people think that it is "negative". Like I said, your honesty and attention to detail in evaluating the products is what makes this series great.
Lizzy, you are so gracious about constructive criticism. It's so easy to be defensive, it makes me enjoy you channel more.
Thanks for the great videos!
runspud if you like UK brands check out www.studiobritish.com all luxury British fashion!!! X
RM Williams Chelsea boots can not be beat!
Oh, I can’t stop praising Testing Basics and it feels like I never will.

I'd love to see a testing basics on turtleneck jumpers for sure! Also one on the more chunky ones would be great if it works for you :)
I did turtlenecks last winter and so far haven't come across any better than the ones I tested - Uniqlo ribbed ones are my faves! x
Oversized knits would be great, or chunky knits!

This was great! As always :) there is my favorite type of footwear and I feel like I can buy them over and over again. Jovana Petrović agree 100%. Also, she spent so much money on something she doesn’t even like and she did it just for us. That is something admirable.
Manasa Chintapalli | I think the criticism was more that she couldn’t judge them properly as a trench coat. All agreed that it was great she made the effort.
This was so interesting and useful! Can you do chunkier lace up styles please?
My eyes got teared up a little when i saw the church's boots. Such a beautiful boot. Cried because so expensive obvi.
What jumper are you wearing in the final recap? It looks great on you!
Oh my goodness *sigh* … I just literally love your testing basics videos so much! Your so articulate and just lovely to watch and listen to.

Thanks for including a heritage brand over a luxury brand for these boots. Really nice to see actual "expert's" boots when it comes to chelsea boots. nice video!
my favorite one is the Mango pair! they look sleek and expensive but not over the top. love!
My favs are R.M Williams! I have had my pair for about two years & wear them way more than I should haha. But they still look brand new, would totally recommend them to any boot lover.
Micaela Elliott hello, i hv bn interested in RM Williams actually. Were yours comfortable from the get go? Thx
Hiii I've got a pair of RMs also - they're super comfortable from the get go, definitely soften over time though, becoming more comfy!
Yeah, mine where a bit tight but they quickly wore in! A lot of friends also have them & they love them as much as me. I have also had the clobber put rubber soles on the bottom which also makes them last longer

Great video!!! I am so glad you did chelsea boots. It's so helpful. Can you please also do over-the-knee boots???

I'm coming to London for Christmas and now plan to check out Church's. This is my fave style boot. Great video!
Hi Lizzie, loved this! Where did you get the black top from the last outfit?
I have the Acne Jensen boots and they are great! I didn't had to break them in, they were comfortable from day one.
You should definitely try out R.M. Williams boots Lizzy! They're a really great Australian brand and amazing quality, there's a store in London if you're interested :) Great video as usual!
does anyone know where the belt and top are from in the last segment? Also, loved the video! (always love the testing basics videos!)
Another amazing video! I can't imagine having to spend money on so many similar items just to test them out. Thank you for doing this for us! X
Hi Lizzie, I love your Testing Basics series? Please could you test heeled over the knee boots to compare to the Stuart Weitzman highland / highline boots? I'm so torn as to whether it's worth spending the money on them for this autumn/winter, and I'm sure others are too! 🙈 Xxx

Loved this vid. Was a bit confused why dc martins where not featured as this is rly them especially with some of the newer styles
This was a very very helpful video but the framing of the full OOTD could be improved next time. Not sure standing behind the coffee table was the best angle to show off how the boots looked like with clothes.
Lizzie, could you do a testing basics on bomber jackets? That DVF bomber is gorgeous.
Loved this. So helpful for me. I do think I’ll save up a bit and I’ll try to get a pair of Church’s boot next time I’m in London. I didn’t mind the trench coat video. Just bought the River Island Chelsea Boots :) i didnt find the last video negative, appreciate the honesty as i have tried to get into trench coats and can't either! Love testing basics!
Massimo Dutti has a few very nice pairs this season! Thanks for the video!
I wear my pair of Chelsea boots all the time in the winter with jeans and dresses especially. Mine are looking a bit rough so this is perfect timing!
The river island ones are just so Gorgeous!
I would have loved to see a short cut-away of a close up of the boots on while you were introducing them like in previous testing basics for shoes! Love the series!! 😊
If you are after some great ankle boots - you should have a look at the RM Williams Adelaide boot, AMAZING quality and super super comfy !!
I was just thinking it was time to replace my super cheap pleather pair of chelsea boots! Great timing. Love this series
i love the church's ones! i live in italy and we have it here+ I think they cost less here actually which is weird, but definitely planning on buying them!
Just got the ASOS ones right before this video went up. They are gorgeous and I'm so excited to wear them! Thanks for doing this one :)
if you're after chelsea boots, RM Williams are the BEST, great vid xoxoxo
Yes! This has been my favourite testing basics and you have just confirmed that yes, I do need a pair of Church's boots. :)
Yess! I've been waiting for this one for so looong. I love love love your videos Lizzy! xx
Great video! I was actually on the hunt for a great pair of Chelsea boots so this was really helpful! Lizzy, could you please let us know where the jumper you're wearing when you rank the boots is from? It's gorgeous xx
Testing Basics is my fav fav fav vid series on TH-cam and I appreciate you doing the trench coats even if you aren't a huge fan
I loved last year's topshop chelsea boots but sadly they don't have them this year
you should try rm williams and blundstone boots in chisel toe, they are my favourite chelsea boots.
Great video as always! I have the Jensen Acne studios boots and they are the most comfortable thing in the world! I've noticed that all the people who have bought the smooth leather ones complaint about the same thing as you, mine are in the grained leather and are the best! I love them and wear them every single day! I know they are not cheap but would suggest that you buy the grained leather ones next time :p
xx
Hi, how do you choose where you buy the items you're going to feature?
Hi Lizzie! Love your channel and this series in general. A request for testing basics going forward. Can you list, in the description box, the results in order from most liked to least liked? After I watch the videos, I can never remember which was which, even though you link to the items. Thanks!
Could you specify the design or the specific name of the ASOS ones?
The best series on YT 👌🏽
Absolutely agree with your comment on the church's. Specialized brands are worth so much more than designer brands.
The RM Williams shoes are the absolute best and they have a lifetime guarantee (30 odd years!!)
I recently got a pair of Jensen dupes from Marc Fisher and while they are kind of a shameless rippoff because they are literally the same, the price was great and they're really comfortable!
Love a good pair of Chelsea boots! My favorite is from Bally many years ago!
Loved this!
Do you still recommend the Kurt Geiger Chelsea boots from last year’s ankle boot video?
Love your videos, super informative for when I'm planning to make a purchase! Just a question, can these boots fit thicker socks during winter?
Where did you get the black sweater worn doing the wrap up?
Loved this video, as usual. Will you be doing another boot one this season?
With Chelsea boots (as with most things) you get what you pay for--the Church's look better than any of the other brands you tried and are so cool with the wingtip detail.
Where is your black belt in the last segment from? Love chelsea boots as well, just ordered a pair yesterday xx
Love your video, all info are given, outfits, advice great job
Thanks for this video Lizzy! I just ordered the River Island boots! They are already sold out on ASOS and I should've bought them as soon as I added them to my bag online; I've ordered them from the River Island website. You are obviously a trusted influencer because of your honest and critical opinions and amazing fashion sense. Keep up the great work, thanks for doing our homework for us. Cheers from Canada.
Love your testing basics videos
YAY - ps. i did not think it was negative at all. loved that you went for it anyways, despite not loving the trench. you listen to your subs xx my fav vids from you!
I was staring in the window of Church's a few weeks ago in London and I made a promise to myself that I would buy a pair of their shoes one day. This has convinced me, but I'd definitely try them on first.
I'm obsessed with your bomber jacket. Where is it from?
i know this would be pretty hard to test in the time frame but would love to know the durability of the boots especially the leather over time and if your opinion would change (i assume maybe the more expensive ones might be more durable?? eg. the and other stories vs the asos?)
frillnecklizard | previously, she has done videos looking back on older testing basics videos.
I love these videos! Would be really Interesting if you could do a blind testing basics? Not sure how it would work but would be cool to see how you would feel about different items not knowing the exact brand/price, just a thought :) xx
Loved this video! I really want to purchase the river island ones 😍
What size river island boot did you get ? I’m in between sizes. Thanks so much!!!
where is the top from on day 5? - it's not currently linked. obsessed!
LOVED this testing basics!! Thank you Lizzie xx
