    your channel grew so much. i remember when you had 3k subscribers or so. I remember i commented to a video of yours in Croatia about filipino snacks and you said you were going to Asia next. now I see you re finally in the Philippines. If you haven't done it yet and you want a recommendation go to bantayan Island, cebu. . easter has passed and it s better because bantayan is too packed at easter while it is beautiful and quiet in other periods of the year and now it s perfect. may is the perfect month. Kota beach and sugar beach are the best in santa fe. good luck with everything. at the moment I'm In Italy

      Thank you so much. i spent a month in Cebu but filmed almost the entire time I was there. So I didn't make it to a single beach unfortunately. Hopefully I will get some time as I travel the Philippines to just take a break and relax on a beautiful beach somewhere

      @@PureDetour thanks for the reply. Again , very nice channel ! Lived a total of 3 yrs between stays in the Philippines , my wife is from there and my kid is half Filipino. Last time we were there was the end of September. We stayed 1 month I'm Indonesia(Bali and Gili Air) which we loved and 4 months in the Philippines including 2 Mths in bantayan . Her parents live in the so called middle of nowhere in the province of Mindoro so we experienced living in a semi jungle for 3 weeks. We also cooked a pig there for the 5 th birthday of my son..big village party lol. I also saw your video about the lechon fiesta , very nice

      I own 6 t-shirts. Only 4 that I am willing to wear outside. I do not have the room in a bag to fit anymore. And the ones I have now are all merino wool that I paid an UN-GODLY amount of money for. I will wear these things into they are falling apart😂

    Spring rolls (lumpia) and dynamite's are definitely flavorful and are worth roaming the streets for. Beef nilat-an which was on my Dad's menu, especially during lunch is quite phenomenal. Growing up it was just present on the table a few times a week. It's all about the soup and how one makes it all savory that all the more complements the tenderness of the meat. Chorizo de cebu is fantastic. Dipped on the spiced vinegar it just comes to life as you grub it down. Ube ensaimada and hopia are such tasteful sweet treats. There goes taho (soya infused tofu). It usually is best taken hot and in the early morning sunrise-ish part of the day. Tuslob buwa is too overrated I just don't fancy the craze no apologies -- and same goes to the other goodies that I had not highlighted. These are all local gastronomical treats and thanks to your channel for this wonderful showcase. Why don't I see Angela exploring Cebu though? Still stuck with your lechon reviews and I appreciate you for trying to indulge into the local food fanfare. Godspeed. 🙏 🇵🇭 👊 ♥️ 👏 👋

      @@PureDetour my sincerest apologies, Geoff. I missed out on that one particular video, just got to see it as I was going to write this response for you.
      Man, you owning up to a fault with those deep and heartfelt words is just so selfless of you. I have to give credit where credit is due.
      Not tryna add salt to the wound here but you guys looked great together and just made such a good team together with that chemistry. Just saying.
      Well, what goes around comes around. To each his own. Space is what we all need to search for our own room and growth. There has to be some purpose in this lifetime. I'm just real glad that the level of support and respect you guys have for each other goes way beyond fair.
      I wish you the best on your channel as you journey on. Cheers! 🍺

    Porcupine fish...brave man. It's a type of puffer fish.

    • @EricSon_akuma
      @EricSon_akuma ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was about to post the same comment.
      I did some googling, and found that porcupine fish excretes toxin from their skin. Maybe that's what makes them different from their more (in)famous cousin, the fugu. Maybe the toxins are neutralized by removing the skin.

    the fish soup dish you had in pasil,cebu. is not a porcupine,its a pufferfish. and theres a lot of rare but authentic food in pasil,cebu. which ur guide didnt get u there. she diesnt know whats the real deal food place in cebu.

    • @PureDetour
      @PureDetour  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you are correct it was a puffer fish. To be fair to my guide, even in North America some people call them porcupine fish so I am not holding that against her.
      Maybe I will have to make another trip top Cebu to get you to show me around!😀

  • @keithd1219

    The biggest issue for me and Philippino food isn't the food taste so much as the lack of hygiene with food being out too long before eating or whatever. There has never been a trip to the Philippines that I didn't spend at least 2 days with a stomach virus of some sort. I guage my trips by the intensity of the stomach illnesses.

    • @hunterpanther6360
      @hunterpanther6360 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry about that, but for sure those food is for local people where they are used to eat everytime and there will be no issue nor they will not suffer from stomach ache due to it's "lack of hygiene" because locals are immune with it. Your stomach might be sensitive because if our street food is bad then all foreigners who came to visit and ate street food has the same experienced like you had. So far, most of our street vendors are also aware of cleanliness but if you think that they can't reach your standard then better not to buy. I feel sorry for your experience, we can't change our way of serving food because it is part of our culture

    • @keithd1219
      @keithd1219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hunterpanther6360 seriously, that's one of the nicest replies ever...thank you. I totally understand about the food issue....once I get over the initial stomach issues, it does become easier, probably because I have to get acclimated to the differences in water composition, etc
      Btw. ..I return to the Philippines over and over not for the food but almost exclusively for the wonderful people that are so gracious, friendly and kind.
