- The Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against John Deere, accusing it of boosting profits by forcing farmers to use authorized dealers for repairs. But the tractor giant called the lawsuit “meritless,” and pointed out it was filed in the final days of the outgoing Biden administration.

John Deere's position on right to repair has already lost them a huge amount of brand equity, far outstripping any profits they would have gotten. It's sad that their leadership is hurting what was once such a great brand.
So sad to see a company like John Deere go downhill so fast.
They did it too them selves. No tears here
ya, i grew up on a farm with my dad fixing our 2 john deeres every time they had an issue....The family members of the company who have integrity likely are no longer part of the company
I hope this lawsuit is successful. It could open the door to many industries like the auto industry that are heading in that same direction.
Deere is all but finished in America, but I feel for farmers that still own them.
This is a rare example of when the government should in fact step in and stop Deere from doing this. It's anti-competitive.
Restricting people's right to repair the products they purchase is a self-defeating proposition. John Deere is rapidly becoming the poster-child for this. As other brands allow owners to repair their own equipment Deere will find itself continually losing market share.
Why would anyone buy a Deere? You can just buy something else, or rebuild your old equipment. Cat is the same way.
F Deere
This issue needs addressed for automobiles.... having to remove a bumper to change a headlamp is unacceptable. It creates a huge safety issue for not being a DIY job.
Exactly. Automobiles are deliberately designed to make it nearly impossible to repair ANYTHING.
Removing a bumper cover takes about 10 minutes, with the right tools, it's not like Audi V8 timing chains.........
If John Deere were to tell their customers upfront that the product can only be serviced by their authorized dealers and only OEM parts could be used, that would be fair. The consumer would go in knowing that the John Deere business model was a closed loop.
If however they didn’t tell the consumer upfront that they would be locked into a closed system, it seems like a dishonest practice.
If a buyer cannot modify/repair "his" tractor, it's NOT REALLY HIS.
Well hopefully Trump will order his people to continue this lawsuit cause it's ridiculous that farmers have to go dealers to repair their equipment all while their crops go bad cause they can't usecthe equipment and some farmers have said they've waited months for dealers to come and repair it on site cause farmers can't get them to the dealer
Is this while under warranty? They don't want to pay for things not under warranty
Most farmers don't have the knowledge to fix a new JD tractor . Could die by touching live transducer.
Good luck farmers and be safe
My mother is 94 years old. She remembers the day when there were "shade tree mechanics". I even remember those days when my dad would repair our cars in his garage. He had all kinds of tools and repair manuals.
I wonder if the CEO of John Deere ever goes out in public? Just wondering.
So...tractors have become like cars; unless it has an ashtray, you can keep it.
Nowadays, to rebel is to be a shade tree mechanic.
I call b.s.! They make billions a year on this! Not political! Follow the money!
These damned bribed politicians need to wake the hell up and back up the farmers on this. Keep up the pressure, VOTE.
I can’t believe what a horrible company John Deere is. How in the world can a company hate their customers to this extent?
It is getting so hard for Farmers just to survive in this environment these days. Lawmakers have absolutely killed the little guy, leave them alone. You keep biting the hand that feeds you and someday that is going to really hurt. Stop helping the corporations and start helping the little guy. It's what America is founded on.
Buy a Ford or Case International will get the job done.
Just like McDonalds Ice Cream Machine
John Deer, hey will let you change the tires….
I'll bet all that diagnostic shit could be built right in to the machine.
They’re following in Apples footsteps.
No more of this in the Trump administration.
They are trying to tie the farmers hands behind their back!
Got a 1025r five years ago, turns out the Bellcrank arm on my brakes is defective and I'm not allowed to replace it myself but it has to go to the dealership for something that I'm quite sure i could change myself! Oh ,by the way, 6 months later and they still haven't received the replacement parts! Never buying a DOE again! 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
So... quit buying them.
Already have
@@HaroldMartin-p3uso what brand do you buy in the same class and age that is not the same situation?
Trump should continue this lawsuit.
I think it sucks John Deere does this
Webber Grills too? What's so hard about fixing one of those?
farmers rights to repair their own equipment vs corporate monopoly vs fair competition
John Deere is evil for this!!!
Right to repair as a whole is a fundamental human right the same as automotive rights to repair which is currently in law
proprietary tools and software??? SO DOES EVERY BRAND out there. Most people don’t know what to do with it anyway. Plenty of options out there for diagnostics. You can even buy the OEM…but it means you have to be willing to spend the money
FJD
I have watched farmers fix their equipment on TH-cam all the time
0:56 "Non-profit"? That excludes salaries and bonuses to top executives, doesn't it?
Buy elsewhere
Wowww
Deere really trying to be a victim
The goverment i usa now is a shame
Louis Rossmann. !!!
Not an American but is there no alternative to JD.? Some other manufacturer who doesn't use this anit repair practices?
Just like a Rolex!
The Trump administration has already gotten rid of Lina Khan, one of the few people fighting against corporate interests.
Do Tesla next
Videos like this are so stupid!. Because john deere service adviser is available for sale.
John deere sucks. Its apparent
Those farmers are not peasants. Land owners with money to burn.
BS.
It’s basically a larger size car.
Making me want to start a tractor company.
The goverment i usa now is a shame
