I'm just amazed with how much you have going on at the chateau every single day. This is better than watching a series on TV because everything is real and it's one of the most beautiful settings and places with so much history!
Ouuuu Stephanie the fabrics are glorious! However the wood is very bad for the textiles. I know that the piles organized in color ways is eye pleasing & exciting but not the greatest way to preserve soft goods. The acid in the wood is what causes age darkening, fold lines, and general deterioration. It would be a better idea to use cotton or linen to line the shelves (I'm sure you have plenty of old plain linen) and wrap back over the piles or the best is clear plastic bins or acid free storage/garment boxes and acid free tissue paper (ask your friends at Christies but most all acid free items are available online). That is why one must always use acid free papers and matt boards. Moth balls or cedar will help with moths and critters. (I have been a vintage & antique textile dealer since the mi '80's from Hershe4y , PA, USA)
I agree. I buy big vacuum bags and store fabric in that. Also, the natural oils from the wood turn fabric yellow overtime and that kind of staining it so difficult to get out. Lastly, I actually have found moths go for anything natural, be it wool, cotton or linen. The bags will protect them from that as well.
Its also not good to wrap fabric around cardboard, which is made from wood pulp and therefore will leech tannens. Best to use an archival, acid free chipboard or davy board, which u can get from bookbinding supply companies
I was thinking the same! I am storing my quilts in a chest that I lined in fabric and others I keep in cotton pillowcases but my fabrics are stored in plastic bins for years but they are all cotton and not silks or wools.
Those wardrobes are no protection from moister either the attic is not sealed area, I suggested instead of wardrobes they use movable metal shelving and big plastic tubs that are totally visible but also sealed from the elements. Also easier to move tubs downstairs when a group of items is needed.
Oh. I love the peacock story. I got 3 peacocks last year after seeing the baby Ians. But this summer they ran away and I was distraught. I was able to get Mimi and Brunehilde back after they made their home on the porch a mile away. It took two nets. Four people and two tries to get them home. Alas Figaro was never found but a few weeks ago Figaro II joined the ladies and they are now all happy. Peacock drama is really!
Regarding the Rose of Lalande, you may want to contact the House of Guillot Père et Fils in Lyon. The first Guillot started the rose nursery in the middle of the 19th century and became very famous creating some beautiful roses. They may have created the Lalande rose. If not, they may be able to trace its origin, it's worth a try.
My husband thought I was watching something inappropriate because he could hear amury making satisfying noises whilst making adjustments to the wardrobe 😅 🤣🤣 i almost spat my tea out!
Same, I think it’s nice for Stephanie to have some family around. Also Amaury is taking on the carpentry jobs that Selmar was doing, so there is plenty of work to be done around the place.
The lost rose of Lalande must have been quite famous in its day. And not just on a regional scale, but on a European scale as well. It was even mentioned in the July of 1899 edition of Country Life: ‚Here is Mme. de Watteville, touched with tenderest pink, there is the glorious Comtesse de Nadaillac from Mr. Prince, a flower so beautiful in colouring that every novice takes its name to try and grow flowers as sumptuous.‘ Apparently, this particular rose was considered to be an exhibition rose, and therefore rather sensitive. Further research might help to unearth quite a botanical treasure trove ?! 🌹🌹🥇
@@FleurOlivia I remember having been to tea and Queen Victoria mentioning this rather fragrant rose being talked about in Country Life. Who would dispute a Queen ?! 😉
So good to see your research brought results. I have read in 1890, Marie Antoinette gathered botanists and horticulturists together to create an exhibition (not known where or when) and also was to be seen in a garden (again not known where) which apparently still exists. The search goes on!
I read that it was bred by Jean-Baptiste André Guillot in 1871. It’s mentioned in the “List des rosiers les plus recommandables” by Friedrich Schneider II
The history of the Rose is so fascinating! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to find it and be able to plant them at your Chateau. Love it. You have got to start sewing to use these tassels! Would love to see what you do with the blue Morano beads. :):)

Abby, I hope everything works out for you in France. I for one am going to live vicariously through you, being the same age and (French) dreams! Following you on TH-cam to see what life has in store for you :)

To the lovely woman/volunteer who is looking for a home in France - I hope you find what is right for you! Your dear sweet husband’s spirit is always with you. I appreciate your courage and lust for life! Many good wishes.
I have contacted some rosarians I know and two rose society’s to enquire about the rose. Hopefully it can be located and eventually planted at LaLande.
@ChateauDiaries I found info about the Rose: Comtesse de Nadaillac' rose Description- Bred by Jean-Baptiste André (fils) Guillot (1827-1893) (France, 1871). Introduced in Australia by C. F. Newman and Sons - Adelaide in 1894 as 'Comtesse de Nadaillac'. Peach - pink, apricot shading, yellow undertones. Large, full (26-40 petals), globular, high-centered bloom form. I read Anthony Ridge's: For love of a rose, following it being sent to Stephanie. This story of the 'Peace' rose was so charming. It will be wonderful to see how the Lalande rose story unfolds.
Stephanie 🌞 The 'lost rose' looks charming and it's very reminiscent of one that I had years ago ... it's the delectable 'French Perfume', a luscious hybrid tea rose that's undoubtedly an French heirloom with the same DNA as your lovely 'Rose of LaLande', the very same. It occurred to me that you might look all around the nearby countryside of LaLande for your rose ...you know, people are always taking cuttings and propagating, and you might just find the original of your rose lingering in someone's local estate or even an ancient cottage garden.... 💛🍀💛
As an after thought, there are hundreds & hundreds of hybrid roses that have been born through the last couple of centuries ... perhaps the new LaLande famille could engage a master to create an altogether unique & emblematic nouveau 'Rose of LaLande'? 🌠
Love the video and I want to echo what Laura said about wood and textiles. The acid in the wood will discolor your fabric. There is an easy solution though. You can line the shelves with acid free paper several layers or acid free mat board.

I just bought my 1850's dream house and I am turning 42 this year!! Never stop dreaming at any age!! 😍😍😍 You should line the planks for the fabric. So the fabric doesn't touch the wood.
Wow, Mary did a wonderful job organizing all the fabrics by colors 👌🏻 Your cousin Amaury is amazing as usual 🧑🔧 Enjoying your daily vlog, pretty Stephanie 💃
Hi Stephanie (and Nati), Cloves (just a few at the back of each shelf) in the cupboards will stop any silverfish being too attracted to the beautifully arranged fabrics. Lovely to see all in the attic becoming beautifully ordered!
I dont know if this is the rose of lalande but thought I'd share. There's a rose introduced into Australia by C.F Newman and sons in Adelaide in 1894. Its called Comtesse de Nadaillac. It was created by Jean-Baptiste-Andre in 1871...I think 🤣. It is tea scented 🤣🤣🤣. And if I remember rightly my grandmother use to have that rose and the old English rose in her garden and I think another family member may have taken a cutting.....I'm not quite sure. I hope this helps 🥰😍😁❤
And it is possible that it was created in honor of Cecile Delesser (comtesse de Nadaillac) although Cecile was quite senior in 1871. She was the “dame d’honneur” to “imperatrice Eugenie”.
@@Mindy-s-channel i know right! My grandmother use to call it Nadie 🤣 and she'd always yell at us whenever we went near it saying "you hurt my nadie tea rose and ill clip your damn ears" 🤣🤣. I remember it smelling divine! And it was just so gorgeous against the deep red of the English rose. I will get a hold of my aunty to see if she still has it. I'm seriously unsure it was such a delicate rose, fingers crossed that it survived. If it hasn't there maybe an even better chance that the botanical gardens in Australia may have it or the ones here in New Zealand. 💖💖💖
I was in the rose garden in the Adelaide parklands not long ago and there were definitely some roses that looked similar! I'm sure there are many that meet that description, but it still makes me want to go back to read the tags and enjoy them again!

We have many here that look very similar too but they don't smell 😑. A rose without its scent is like dishing out an apple pie without apple. Its just sad.
Stephanie, in regards to wardrobe storage of fabric or clothing, these items can be protected from moths by using French Lavender. French lavender is a specific type which has the strongest fragrance to ward off moths. Using lavender for protection is worth your efforts in creating this wonderful storage area in the attic. The smell of lavender on fabrics can be washed away opposed to the smell of cedar balls which penetrates a long lasting smell which never goes away. French Lavender can be ordered on line. Note: After you get started w the online product, just start growing it in the garden & utilize your own lavender !
What a gang!! What a team!! Loving this groups dynamic, you all work together so well. I adore Stephanie's morning outfit, blue and white dress with the sunny yellow bed shawl, I would wear that, plus, the dress coordinates with the kitchen decor. I hope you find your rose. 😊💕

I was thinking exactly the same as Laura Almond about the storage of fabrics on wood. Such precious fabrics. You are all precious ;-) thanks for sharing XXXXXXX
I'm sure I've seen that rose here years ago, in New Zealand, in a rose garden in Auckland. It took my eye because it was such a pretty yellow and had a perfume. A lot of early settlers brought rose cuttings with them to New Zealand and Australia, so it's quite possible that Comtesse de Nadaillac was brought and planted around both countries! Fascinating stuff!
Yay Steph- l do hope you find something about the rose in your research 💕 good luck. The wonderful thing about the lalande community is someone may know something. 😊
🌹Another exciting episode! Can't seem to get Stephanie mimicking mummy's voice out of my head! 😉My dad was the opposite. He only complimented me when 🧐he actually liked how I looked which was quite infrequent🤣. He disliked my ultra 🎀girly-girl romantic, prep school/ 📚"librarianish" &/or casual sporty style that carried over from dance🩰. 🥰 My beloved mom always leaned toward feminine💫glamour. 👠She lived in dresses & heels. 😖She didn't like my athletic gear, but she supported my other fashion quirks👍.🤗Like Nati, I pooh-poohed her effusive praises. Figured she tried too hard to ⚖️off-set dad's stubborn silence🤐. 🥳Mary did fabulous batching all the fabric by color & size! Also great that Rebecca started to tackle the trim! I don’t know what Amaury’s fixing, but I think mine’s broken.
Classic!
Hysterical 🤣🤣
You win comment of the month, maybe the year! Congratulations! Here’s your digital award.🥇 🏆
Somebody put that on a mug
Please quake safe those cupboards and attach them to the wall. "Better safe than sorry."
I was thinking exactly the same as Laura Almond about the storage of fabrics on wood. Such precious fabrics. You are all precious ;-) thanks for sharing XXXXXXX
It’s nice to watch a man at work! 😃💪🛠
I enjoy watching you all whether at work or play... Long to visit Lalande...💗💗💗
You should line the fabric shelves!
Lovely fabric stash! I recommend using comic book boards to wrap your fabrics and alligator clips (also called shirt clips) to keep them all neat.
Stephanie should get into real estate with the number of people hunting for French properties coming through LaLande
He disliked my ultra
🎀girly-girl romantic, prep school/ 📚"librarianish" &/or casual sporty style that carried over from dance🩰.
(Looks like she'll give Philip a run in the 💎brooch stakes too.) 💪Amaury was brilliant getting the armoires in order.
🖌️Abby's artwork of the chateau was sensational. 🙏 Hope she finds the ⚜️home of her dreams. Admire her commitment & courage to the move📦! Lovely to see the lady who adopted the peacocks🦚. 🤔And, hear about the Countess Nadiallac Yellow Rose from the American branch of LaLandes.
🎁They gave you such a beautiful botanical print of it!

In live with the Blue Murano Beads. (I am a beader myself) All the gorgeous fabrics and colours. Can not wait to see what you use them for !😊❤
Such a lovely dinner and company, while I ate my lunch. Felling inspired to create now.
Stephanie, are you keeping a journal of your renovations with lovely swatches of wallpaper & fabric, touches of paint, sweet little thrift store & antique market receipts. Another TH-camr mentioned a journal & I thought it could become a beautiful heirloom
That was an impressive assortment of desserts!!!! What I’m dying for is that beautiful serving of chips!!!!!
What a wonderful blog. Wishing Abby all the best in pursuing her dream. Loved the peacock story and I hope your research into the Rose of LaLande is successful. I agree with the others that the shelves should be lined to protect the fabrics. Maybe you will get some for XMAS? Thanks for sharing 😍😘
clove oil gets rid of spots and can stop you getting them if it looks like one is coming , tell dan too please
why is amaury keeping his t shirt on ? roflmao
The rose is stunning!
Love the story of the Peacocks told with such passion and joy, oh that fabric and trim and here am I sitting sorting buttons into colours in separate jars, oh how I love buttons, Deborah, Melbourne, Aus
Me too. I have my grandmother & mother's buttons. Don't do much with them anymore but they will be with me until the day I part this earth. 🌸🌺🌷
@@barbibutton9619 I add a spray of buttons to coat/jacket collars and to cover holes in clothes similar to what Stephanie does with the iron on bees. i was mending a hole in the front of a nightie when watching this video and made a little pink flower with a green stem.
It would be amazing to find the rose and plant it at the chateau! The fabric wardrobes look great!
Love you all!! That rose is gorgeous!!!
