    Some of the prestige proof sets were poorly produced by the mint. I bought the Mount Rushmore set and the silver coin in haze oxidation around the rim. The plastic eventually came off you able to remove the clear plastic out. The mint did not seal well that the air went inside damaged the silver. I returned it to the seller and fortunately able to have a refund on ebay. Purchase another two coins proof set in better case with Air Tite with no tarnish. Beautiful coins!

    The US Mint, unless you somehow have an in for the ultra rare issues or a bot or you’re really darn lucky, is not the place to invest. It’s good to get coins there but even the coins that go up in value usually can’t keep up with inflation. $57 in 1995 would buy a lot more than $60 today.

    Adjusted for inflation you lost on just about all of them. Lol but nominally your def. Correct. Have a good day Daniel!

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adjusting for inflation is just for fun and not reality. If I bought a $10 coin in 1970 and I sell it now for $30 then I made a good investment. It doesn't matter how much $30 was back in the day.

    • @ROGUESILVER
      @ROGUESILVER 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CoinHELPu so if 10 dollars bought you a tank of gas in 1970 and today that same coin you sold for 30 buys you the same tank of gas did you really gain anything accept a nominal increase? So unless you made enough to buy more than back then you didn't actually make anything. Just because something increases nominally doesn't make it more valuable.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ROGUESILVER if I buy a coin for $10 in 1990 and sell it for $30 in 2020 I gained on my investment. Its how it works, this isn't about what the dollar use to buy or adjusted for inflation, that's comparing two different financial eras that can't be combined. Anytime you buy something and sell for more later you got a return for your investment.

    • @ROGUESILVER
      @ROGUESILVER 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CoinHELPu yes that coin went up and you made a good purchase that increased in nominal value. But $10 in 1990=$30 in 2020(as an example because I'm sure its more) so it increased in nominal value but not actual value because $10 in 1990 has the same purchasing power as $30 in 2020. So unless you made more than the rate of inflation you only made a profit nominally...not actually because of inflation. According to your video only a handful of proof sets even went up in value and adjusted for inflation you actually lost on just about all modern proof sets. Im not arguing it went up in nominal value. Im saying they didn't go up in actual value because 10=30....there is a big difference between a nominal increase and an actual or real increase in value. Its the same as buying a bond with a 1% rate and the stated inflation rate is 2%. Yes it went up in nominal value but its a negative real rate of 1%.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ROGUESILVER all of that doesn't matter. If I buy a coin then later I sell it for a profit then I made a return on my investment, it's that simple. Your paper math and figurative thinking doesn't take away the profit I made on that coin, because the profit I made is real time while your math is paper and not what really happened.

    • @michaelandrews8944
      @michaelandrews8944 ปีที่แล้ว

      Proof mark is the letter that's usually below the date or on the reverse like P D S Or W stands for West point, NY the rest are symbols of what mint they were made from..if you don't know already, happy hunting!!

    I think 2020 with the coin shortage and limited release of the proof and proof silver sets with W nickles will show a good increase in value over time. Sad to say what a bad year it was overall. Also, if W nickels from the mint sets leak out, wow that would be a find since they were supposed to be DESTROYED....😉 😜

    I found a 1776-1976 3 coin Bicentennial Set last night. I've had it for years, just never looked hard at it. It has a Type 1 Ike. Did they all come with Type 1 Ikes? Would it be worth it to crack it out and have graded?

    • @CoinHELPu

    Daniel, you’re comparing Apples to Oranges. Those Premium Sets are always top dollar. Anything above 65 and non silver content is a waste of money unless it can be purchased at face value. Right now, spend a day shopping for 1960-64 US Mint P&D uncirculated silver and 60-64 US Mint Proof sets. If you shop around, you’ll be able to get a proof set for $20 and Uncirculated Sets for $40. But they might not all have the official COA and correct envelope. You might have to buy 10 or more to get them at the prices I’ve listed .... enjoyed this video. I love pre 65 US mint sets. I’ve been buying them all my life.

    What are the chances of finding a sp70 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar in a proof set?

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be PR or PF but you would look up population reports and figure the percentage of PR70 against the mintage total to get a tentative idea on that.

      Unless they're rare or of a very high grade, it usually costs you more to have the coins graded than they're worth, and people aren't going to pay any more for the coin having been graded than they would have otherwise (again unless it's very rare or of a high grade).

      The 1936 set original price was $1.89, adjusted for inflation that would be like $35 today... which considering it now sells for $6500 to $7000 would not have been a bad investment.
