Giving a kid under the age of 10 a COVID test is literally pointless. It does not affect children like it does adults... at all. How has no one learned this over the past several years? Are we still that stupid? Are we going to see Jeff masked up on stream soon?

Understandably most of these comments are about Jeff's child, but the Uncle Steve story and the origin of guard bike is the highlight for me. As well as being introduced to Little Samson, which seems pretty rad.

Jeff talking about his uncle caught me off guard, specially the fake VG reviews he gave him. We're in strange times, where old video games bring us memories back just like old songs did to our previous generation.

I think Batman is a fantastic game, 9/10. The different weapons are strategic for different situations, you just need to know how and when to use them.

    • @sargesmash1
      @sargesmash1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yep. Overall, the Batarang works best of the three, the other two are very situational. It's very much a game that takes time to learn.

This series is why Jeff is a singular talent and voice in video games. Very few guys right now that have the contemporaneous knowledge he does to cover NES games (early PC games, Amiga, C64, arcade, also the stuff from before 2600, 400/800, etc.)
BUT what has made me a supporter and fan since the Gamespot days is the sincerity. This isn't some unneeded historical look at the NES. Jeff's always been Jeff but now in the era of social media there is a stark contrast between him and all these people that are amping up their reactions for views, that are pretending they like everything for the views, or complete opposite. Then you get these personal snippets like Uncle Steve that give a context that no one can. He's a real MFer. Keep on hustlin' brother.

Like Deadly Towers, Super Pitfall took an insane amount of time and patience for me to finish back in the day. I remember the day my cousin came home all excited to tell me she bought a new NES game. She said the guy at the store told her Super Pitfall was a good one, so that's what she bought. I was not happy she didn't consult with me first and I hope she learned her lesson.

My grandmother would always buy me games. I definitely remember picking Astyanax from Toys R Us on the BIG WALL OF GAMESSSSSSSSSS (well they were the little cards you would bring to the desk by the door that in my mind hid every game ever.) But i thought the game looked neat. Had big cool sprites, especially the boss fights. the music was really good, but i remember it being pretty hard. I definitely beat it with the game genie cause i was a bad gamer. But theres a soft spot in my heart for this game. Glad to see you play it and i hope your daughter feels better!

Good stuff man. Household stress. Lady of the house not in the vicinity (at times). Work to do. ...We're all in this together. I'm glad you still pulled off the stream. And the 'gate' on your mic held down the fort. I was using Sony MDR-7506's and I could barely hear your girl. Additionally, she had some pretty excellent contributions! ... Keep on rocking in the free world. "-Doot"

Little Samson! Great game and by the late 90s it was already hard to get a physical copy.
Edit: wow surprised it never crossed your radar before. That along with Zoda’s revenge and Rockin Kats were some of the best for the NES released in that 91-94 range. Little Samson being the best of the bunch of those overlooked titles.

Wooo, finally made it to Episode 6! From one father to another, mad props to your patience with the kiddo. I hope everyone is feeling better and doing well!
I remember finishing Astyanax (pronounced "Uh-stee-an-ax" and apparently means "Lord of the City" in Greek mythology) on an emulator years ago. Batman is great though; one of my all-time favorite NES games. I wish you spent more time with that and Dr. Chaos (which has levels called "warp zones" where you find upgrades and fight bosses), but it is what it is. Still loving the series. Can't wait to watch the rest of them.

I missed it live, but was impressed by Astyanax and Little Samson. As you said by '92 developers were very familiar with the 8-bit systems. The talk of upward falling shots reminds me of CREATURES by Apex Productions whom did cool 'colour mixing tricks' on C64, which of course look bad on modern screens.

I remember the music and character art for the villain cutscenes in Astyanax freaking me out when I was a kid. It doesn't look like much now and the actual story is super basic, but for the time on the NES the cutscene presentation was kind of stand out. It's that and Ninja Gaiden that come to my mind when I think of attempts at cinematic presentation on NES.

The sad part about Super Pitfall on the NES is that it's a less glitchy looking, yet nearly identical version than the Tandy version, which was made by the same person that made Pitfall 2, so unfortunately, this wasn't Activision's best work.

Also if you liked Little Samson you'll most likely like the other late Taito games: Power Blade 1&2, Panic Restaurant, Kiwi Craze.

I am here for the Batman discourse. I will say, it's hard to say just how difficult these games are, as I beat this one and the sequels on nintendo and genesis as rentals over the course of a few days each, but it's challenging to go back to now.
You really gotta punch more and use the batarang for almost all the regular enemies, that spread weapon is only kind of good for that dude you died to at the end and other dudes that switch height in relation to Batman. The game is a lot of the jumping and the precise control. The pistol and spread weapon are really only useful for the bosses here and there. I'd rank it a lot higher but maybe it's just because I was better at games then lol.

not related to any of these games, but i tried bloodstained: curse of the moon out the other day, which is supposed to control pretty much exactly like the nes castlevanias. so, no air control at all, and no jump height control, so it's very possible to jump right over the platform you meant to jump to if you time it wrong, or just jump straight up if you weren't holding down a direction before jumping :o . i'm not old enough to have played those games, but i wonder about how did people felt about that back then
