  • Kayak fishing the Alabama Gulf Coast for Huge Gator Speckled Trout.
    In this episode we head down to Gulf shores in search of 3 slot speckled trout. Little did I know I would end up catching a monster speckled trout that would weigh nearly 9 pounds. This speckled trout absolutely made it worth the trip and made my day! I hope you enjoy the video, a link to the products used in the video are down below.

    I remember catching my pb trout this last February 28.5 same as yours just it was awesome to see the moment he realized he’s got a trout instead of a red pits a smile on my face cause how relatable it was. Great fish man!

    I live at Fowlers Bluff on the Suwannee river. I've been fishing around here for over 60 years. My dad used to take me with him salt water fishing when I was around 5. I remember the days fishing behind Deer Island, Preachers Hole. Giger Creek when it was not uncommon to catch over 100 trout. I got schooled when I was around 16 years old about Mirror Lures. I was anchored on the ledge in the Preachers hole and there was a boy camping on Clark Island He was drifting and casting. Every drift he went by us he would put 4-5 nice trout in his cooler. After about an hour watching him I asked him what he was using. You know what it was. We had one in the TB but by then the tide had flooded in. He must of caught 75-80 keepers. I mostly fish now around the mouth of the Suwannee. I'm old now and it's easier for me to just go after the big boys. Them days of the big schools of trout are a thing of the past. You're lucky to catch a limit most days but you can still catch some of the big boys sometimes. I was so lucky to be raised over here and see this beautiful area and the fish and animals that live here. No better place anywhere. (Rusty)

      I grew up on Mosquito Lagoon here in Florida, A true gator is at least 6lb, not these little 3 to 5+lb fish all of the youtubers are calling gator trout. Some of the old timers, 50 yrs ago would not call a fish under 8lbs a gator trout.
      Keep plugging.

    Way to stay after them on a tough day! Another great video! I was wandering if you could do a video sometime on how you set up your kayak to fish in strong current. I fish in the Jacksonville area and we have huge tides with a lot of moving water as you know. If possible I Would love to see some techniques you use to fish those areas effectively. Thanks!

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man I’m very familiar with the tides in Jacksonville! I can think on something and maybe piece something together. The Mill Cove area is a little bit better with the tides than a lot of the other areas.

    If you're up to sharing some adventure, I'll be down there staying at Island Retreat Rv park April 2nd-9th 2021 and I'll have my kayaks. Planning to fish most every morning. I've never kayak fished down there and have been looking into Little Lagoon a lot.

    That was a nice fish you got. Man It was so cool to see you get so excited. I don't blame you man I would to. That 30 would have made your day. I have a question? I'm looking to upgrade my kayak to a pedal drive kayak. The problem I have is my big self has big wide feet 4 EEEE WITH FAT WIDE TOE. I know Hobie has those straps that go over top of your feet. With my feet being so wide I don't think my feet will fit through the straps. I have a pair of flip-flops and I can barely fit my feet through the straps because my foot are so wide. I noticed your foot was not through the straps is that something new now. I'm all the time kayaking barefooted 👣 to. I even did a weekend kayak trip barefooted because I did not feel like dealing with fighting to put my flip-flops on my feet. It's that bad sometimes. My friends called me ( wide foot Bandit) I really would like to get my pedal drive. I really appreciate this sir. You have a very good Channel sir. You take it easy and be safe out there.

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  4 ปีที่แล้ว
