Today on our 2016 KIA Soul we're going to be taking a look at, and installing, the Curt T connector wiring harness with four pull flat trailer connector, part number C56222. Here's what it looks like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, on this one we've got it mounted to a four pull bracket and a universal long bracket here just to help make it easy to access when necessary. What this does is allows you to have a location to plug your four fold trailer wiring into so that you can operate the lights on your trailer. It features a module box which helps to ensure that there's no electrical back feed into the vehicles electrical system to help protect the vehicle. Something that's nice about this wiring harness is that it doesn't have a power wire that you have to route all the way to the front and up to the battery as with some of these other trailer wiring harnesses. An issue that some people have run into when installing this wiring harness is having enough green wire to go from the drivers side tail light across to the passenger side tail light, but within the install video to follow we'll show you how we routed it in order to not have to add any wire.
Here we've got everything that comes with the kit. We've got our wiring harness with our module, and out t connectors that go out to the driver and passenger side, a ground wire that comes off our module here, and our four pull wiring. It also comes with this little dust cover for the four pull connector. Then in this bag we've got some zip ties and other hardware that we're going to need to install this. First thing we'll need to do is remove both of our tail lights, and in order to do that they each have four screws that we can remove with a Philips head screwdriver. Once we've got those screws out we can take it and pry gently outward there until we can get a little bit of a lip to pull from behind and slowly work the light out.
Then there's our connector. We'll push down on that tab and unplug it, and then we'll do that exact same thing on the other side. The next thing I'll do on both sides, we've got these little push pin fasteners here, we'll just put a flat head screwdriver under the center of it to pop it up then grab it. Should be able to pull it right out. The reason we're doing that is so that we can get a little bit better access right here in order to feed our connector going to the passenger side. Now what we can do is we can take our connector here and plug it in to the end of the connector that it fits into on the one that has the yellow and red wire.
Now I can take a fish wire and I'll fish it down along the inside of the bumper here in order to pull it out the bottom, and this will help guide the connector that's going to go to the other side down so we can run it inside the rear inaudible 00:03:35 here. Then we'll pull our fish wire out the bottom. Now with our fish wire fished down through there we can take our T connector that comes off the green wire here and begin to feed it down through. You have to pull out just a little bit on our rear fascia here in order to get it to go down there. We'll be able to start feeding it through and then we can pull on our fish wire to help work it down in there. As you can see, it comes out the bottom there and we'll just gently pull the rest of it through.
I'm going to take some rubbing alcohol and I'm going to mount our module box right there. I'll put a little bit on the pad so then I can just whip that off there, because behind the tail light right about here is where we're going to have our most room. I can take some of the double sided sticky tape and I've gone ahead and peeled the paper off there and I can mount it to the back of the module. Then from there I can take it and put it in place. Now I can feed that fish wire down through again in order to pull my four pull wiring through. I've gone ahead and routed the green wire, and in order to do that the first thing I did was remove the push pin fasteners along the bottom of the rear fascia just to give myself some more room to reach up in there and work. I routed it down from where it came from up at the tail light and I sent it right across the top of the bumper there and just tried to keep it up nice and tight and continued to work it across until I got to the passenger side where I can then use a fish wire. We can just gently pull our fish wire up through and then we'll be able to make our connections. Now with that fish wire in place we can take our four pull wiring and send it down through, because on this vehicle we're going to be mounting it to the existing hitch so that I have ea

Awesome video. I'll be installing mine tmro and this just made the job a cake walk. Being a controls guy I'm sure I wouldn't have had a problem but you know we all like it when its easy. Thank you.

The 56620 was similar. It still would have been good to have a couple extra feet of green wire to go from driver to passenger. Still, there was enough to reach, but only after I routed it behind, but on the top side of the back bumper. Didn't need to drop the connector to the ground at all. I mounted the black box inside the left access panel back driver's side... With the LED brake lights, KIA Soul, I needed to run wire from the battery back. The battery on the Soul has a great hinged cover for the positive terminal. There was plenty of black wire, and I ran it through first to the engine compartment by going underneath the driver side and through the large wiring grommet. Then I threaded it back behind the lower door trim, popped the back seat up a smidge and got it to the very back. Not satisfied yet with the wiring in the back, as I failed to snake it behind the black molding yet, but I'll figure it out. I only tow a small uhaul trailer couple times a year so I left the flat wire is inside.

I've got a gripe with the curt trailer wiring I used. I wired my 2016 kia soul trailer brake wiring last evening with the curt wiring kit, the green wire that connects to the passenger side tail light with the t connectors was about 3 inches to short. there was not enough length in green wiring for me to properly place the converter (for brake light housing clearence) on driver side, run the wiring under the rear bumper covering over to the passenger side and back up the bumper cover to connect the t connectors to the passenger side. There was not enough lead green wiring that I couldn't put my brake light in place. I had to butt splice and add additional length wiring in order to mount my passenger tail light housing. I shouldn't had to do this but I did. Thanks Curt manufacturer for the inconvenience.

Is the 56220 similar? I know it has a black wire to go to the battery because of the LED lights?

I believe you're speaking of the # C83DR. If not, let me know.

The green wire gets ran to the passenger side tail light to run the right turn signal on the trailer.
