Anytime I hear Brickhouse I get chills. He was the broadcaster of the Cubs as far as I’m concerned, not the guy from St. Louis that drank too much. I remember not watching the game but being outside with family in the backyard , it was a hot summer night, and hearing my dad say that Holtzman threw a no-hitter because he was listening on the radio.❤
I was ten years old - my uncle Mike had either introduced us to WGN Cubs baseball that summer, or the one before. I don't remember this particular game - but I remember those Cubs. Seeing the real joy in the faces of the likes of Ron Santo! Today's athletes are so "me" oriented and more caring about their contracts and endorsement deals. It was a beautiful time to be alive in America. Baseball was truly America's game. Loyal players and loyal fans.
I have always heard about the unwritten rules in major league baseball which state that a batter should not bunt to break up a no-hitter. In this game the lead off batter, Bradford, in the ninth inning did not follow the unwritten rules.

Hey hey@
Brickhouse’s voice was one of the iconic sounds of my childhood- watched every game I could during the summer ‘76-‘81 or so.
Man I miss that type of baseball, early 60s 70s…. No tattoos, no hot dogging, just plain baseball………..👍🏿🇵🇷🇺🇸
Love these clips of original broadcasts!

R.I.P. Ken Holtzman...
Lee May was part of that big trade with the Astros that Joe Morgan to the Reds. Great video
Big trade for the Reds. I think they got Jack Billingham in that deal to. Real good starter for them.
Awesome. He was q quality lefty.
Nice find!
RIP Ken Holtzman.
Another tough loss for Gary Nolan.
Try to break up a no- hitter in the eighth with a bunt today and you're going get a lot of flack.
I was so pissed when this happened 😂
Those checked swings would be called strikes today
The Reds were coming off their World Series appearance the prior year (1970), though they lost that series.
The intro showed everyone but the White Sox 😢
A time when umpires paid close attention and didn't need replay; In other words, when umpires were Real Umpires!!!
now we can let him go to oakland

Unwritten rules, how about trying to win. Reds only down a run, just saying.

Kenny Holtzman is the most Underrated money/big game pitcher of my lifetime
Kind of a trash move to bunt to break up a no-hitter, if you live by the "unwritten rules of the game." It didn't work for Bradford.
That would have been cool to have nameplates on those roadies.
