Seen Danny play with the Mac at a blues festival in Droitwich in 1969...always remember Peter saying to Danny on stage when a solo was coming...Play boy...and stood back and let him rip...brilliant...we won't see the likes of the original Fleetwood Mac again

I love Danny but there is no equal to the Green God, Peter Green. As good as Danny was he even knew he was no match to being an equal to Peter. This has always been one of my favorite Songs by Danny along with Coming Your Way . Even Jeremy had his own brand of brilliance. I felt that when Peter left that Jeremy carried the Kiln House LP and Danny carried the Bare Trees LP. Danny did disappoint on the notorious Then Play On LP by not delivering any songs that charted or were high points in concert. When Danny joined FM Peter wrote the hits on Then Play In and the singles Albatross which Danny helped make possible, Man Of The World, Oh Well, and the Green Manalishi. As great as Danny was backing Peter he could not fill the role he was brought into the band for, take some of the pressure off Peter to deliver all the hits. Peter remained the straw that stirred the drink. RIP Danny and Peter, best 1-2 punch in music.

Danny Kirwan is forgotten now, by most people, but he WAS Fleetwood Mac after Peter Green left. He carried that band for a number of albums in the late sixties, early seventies, then he had a couple of solo albums. By 1972 he had lost it, really lost it. Gave up on life, it seems. But Danny had a truly superb touch on the guitar, singing and writing. I' really like to talk to him' if it were at all possible.

I had the pleasure of spending a day with Pete green, and during a conversation
I asked him to sign one of my albums “ Then play on “ I bought in 1969, and still
have to this day, as I handed it to him he opened it up and said, “Crikey is that me ? “. (Looking at a photo of himself) I said, it most certainly is Peter.. he couldn’t believe how slim he looked.. anyway as he was signing it I said, I really
like your guitar playing on this album, his reply was.. “Oh that ain’t me that’s all Danny ! “ typical Peter so humble he wouldn’t take anything from anyone..
I often wonder if it was Danny that inspired Peter’s style of playing.. that’s why
    they sounded so alike. !!
As many ppl have said on here, Danny was such an underrated brilliant guitarist
and I agree with all of you !

Danny Kirwan had his own unique take on the blues, which is what we hear with this tune. He was a very creative and clever songwriter capable of bringing pop and rock elements into the Mac without compromising the integrity of the band. Tunes like 'Jigsaw Puzzle Blues', 'Although The Sun is Shining', 'Bare Trees', 'Tell Me All the Things You Do' and 'Jewel Eyed Judy' are brilliant examples of Kirwan-isms that elevated the Mac to new heights. And there were those times when the chords and melodies were just so British...even pastoral on the likes of 'Earl Grey'. Also, until Danny's arrival, the majority of Peter Green's tunes were very derivative (dare I say ripoffs) of old blues tunes...12-bar blues shuffles with altered lyrics. But Danny's writing seemed to spark Green to aspire to better things, which is what we started to hear, most notably on 'Oh Well', an album that could have been the start of something great...had Peter not left. Still, 'Kiln House', 'Bare Trees' and 'Future Games' (with the wonderful 'Woman of a Thousand Years') stand tall as yet another side of the Mac, a band that has always been so much more than most critics and music fans will ever comprehend.

I always thought of the Kirwan-Welch-Christine McVie group and especially "Kiln House" and "Bare Trees," as the finest FM there ever was. And "Mystery to Me" was a real accomplishment, too. I continued to listen to FM through "Tusk" and even Lindsay paid tribute to the old FM in live shows, doing "Station Man" and other classic FM tunes really quite soulfully. My thoughts are with you, Danny Kirwan. You really made a mark in this fellow's life.

Thanx Vanu49 for your efforts and for giving props to Danny. Sometimes in the 2 guitar format or 3 in F M case one of them gets a little overlooked. Elvin Bishop and Dickie Betts come to mind. The other thing not talked about much is rythym guitar. Peter Green was an excellent rythm guy and can blow a mean harp too!! Thanx again Vanu. I think you have the best channel on you Tube..

it was very much later, when I discovered, that all the time I was trying to emulate Danny Kirwan´s playing style and not Peter Green´s. Most people think it all was Peter Green, but they were 3 guitarists!

Well Jeremy was really a slide player and really took over in the later parts of their shows a lot with blues covers. Peter green was definitely the more complete player, don't think there's ever been a player with his control. Jams like the Madge sessions show Peters better grasp of the guitar and just blistering diversity. That being said, Danny is UNBELIEVABLE. Coming your way, child of mine, and especially the live in Boston "Only You" solo are some of my favorites.

One of the great things about Green was that he was anti-ego, and totally supportive of other peoples' talents. How many lead guitarist/singer/songwriters want to share the spotlight with two other frontmen, and name the band they started after the bassist and drummer? Green found Danny, and obviously recognized his talent, and wasted no time bringing him aboard. Danny was a true partner for Green, in ways that Spencer couldn't be. It is unfortunate that his star set so early, but at leave we some great recordings to remember him by.

i think its a myth, many report live shows with green after that (supposed) event and state he was as good as before or better, so...
and come on, as if he previously to that event didnt take stuff, an overdose would have made him much worse, he couldnt not play same level afterwards
i think many are dissapointed that he left and also changed his style etc. too, that plays into it

    • @taffy4442
      @taffy4442 5 ปีที่แล้ว

As you can see from the replies above, there are conflicting reports. Not surprising, considering how many of the band and crew were drugged out of their minds, even if not necessarily on that particular occasion.
Both Danny and Peter showed signs of mental illness even before that night, and the drug use and lack of treatment exacerbated the condition. And when you consider Jeremy's desertion of the band in order to join the Children of God, clearly you had a trio of seriously messed up, though talented, guitar players.
