As an American and a Texan, I want to say a big thank you to all our friends in Europe who graciously host our troops. Truly, it's difficult for me to find the words to express what it means to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of you. Your enduring kindness and friendship is always on our minds and will never be forgotten.

I was in the USAF from August 1980 to 1985. My first base was at RAF Lakenheath. I had the job of refueling the F111 at that time. We did what was called a hot refuel. The plane would taxi to its pad and when it stopped …motors still running….I would drive up to one side of the plane and start refueling, on the other side of the plane it was being loaded with bombs. Very exciting and dangerous moments.

I always thought the EB111 sparkvark was an exceptionally clever use of it. Those quick turn around jobs must have been nuts in its original bomber function

Bob, you will be pleased to know that they still do hot refueling there on the F-15's. They just shut down one engine and plug the tanker in. Sometimes they can be seen doing this from the public viewing area.

I usually visit once a fortnight and we rarely get a bad day. Some days when they are doing intensive operations and 'hot' refueling we might see 40 plus departures before lunch. Currently there are F-35, F15 and F-16 at Lakenheath, so there is plenty of variety. If you want some heavy stuff, Mildenhall is only 12 minutes away with KC135's, C-130's, Ospreys and RC135's. Its a little be of America in the UK.

F-15E Strike Eagle, easiest "giveaway" is the 2 seats and the extended fuel tanks along the engines, primarily an air to ground med bomber, she still performs the Air superiority roll superbly

Excellent coverage. Tried, Tested, and Trusted. The Mc Donnell Douglas F15 'Eagle', Strike Eagle' , 'Eagle FX'. Loved and respected; Feared and hated. Incomparible within it's own periphery. These on film are but a tiny quantity of them, yet the force they offer is enormous. The U.S 'Birds of Prey'. Always welcome at our British (R.A.F) Air-bases.

Lakenheath is an American base. It might be called ‘RAF Lakenheath’ but it’s not an RAF base. It’s a USAF base. There are no British aircraft based there.

Hi guys , i worked @ Lakenheath for about 5 years to 2005/6 contracted to MOD ,saw various events come and go
Great respect to all there .
I wrote this one lunch time sitting in my works vehicle down on the access road to the flight line
    Distant rumble, sudden roar,
All things shaking, then upward soar,
A hole punched through clouded ceiling,
Twin swirls from wing tips reeling ,
It's grey shape moving so fast,
It's in the present but belongs in the past,
The image is surely one of awe,
But reality is of a possible war,
It's beauty, it's sound, it's just off the ground,
It's scary, it's great, it's a vision some never hate.

Going deep into speculation but I wonder if this could have anything to do with replacing the air power in Poland if those Migs are sent to Ukraine. Any chance this could be mig pilots being trained and checked out on the F-15?
I ask because this looks like one of my earlier lessons while getting my PPL. Take off, fly a circuit, get called off by tower and make a go around, then it was usually a touch and go and then a full stop landing. I think we did an hour or two of that before my solo. My knees were shaking 6 inches aside sitting on the tarmac but once moving all went smooth :). Close to 40 years since I've flown a C-150 but I still do it in my head quite frequently and am sure I could still fly one safely in VFR conditions.

Hey Guys I was stations at Lakenheath back in 67 before deploying to Vietnam There was DOD high school there with dorm students. It was regular practice to conduct scrambles at night - some of the high school students painted the dorm lights RED, Air Police were called and got all students out to clean up at 0200. That was worst threat we had. Don't know if school is still there but watch out for red lights in the wrong places :-)

F16's and F22's are optional dual-role engines of attack. F117's bomb ground targets in night-time strike operations. Then Attack helicopters and attack drone aircraft. They are nice jets, but in a war, all of those nice runways will be pounded into rubble. Better to have the VTOL F-35 instead, using JATO-rocket assist takeoff for full weapon loads on takeoff. Oh wait, they are still working on that system, it's not available just yet.

    • @thorne1239
      @thorne1239 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If the runways are destroyed you have bigger problems, because the only way that happens is if the air force is wiped out. And honestly, it would take aliens to accomplish that.

WHY is Great Britain being protected by old ass F15' and F 16's ? 4th generation 20th century obsolete planes .. where are the F18's ? F 35's , ? during this hotly contested moment in history , where are the F 22's ? where's the B 1 ? the F 117 ? looks like you guys are getting the crap end of the stick here ... I would start complaining ,
