Abortion being on the ballot has changed things. You have to remember the marriage equality debate during the Bush years to understand why Trump is so popular. Evangelicals believe homosexuality is a special sin in which God will wipe any nation that tolerates it off the face of the planet. When same-sex marriage was legalized, they turned to fascism in response. Everyone acts so baffled Trump is so popular, but the answer to that question is very clear, if you simply look at evangelical rhetoric between 9/11 and June 26, 2015, when marriage equality happened.

My 23 year old daughter and her friends are all on the Kamala train. They're all registered and they're all excited to vote as soon as early voting starts. My 18 year old son will be voting for the first time and he's all in for Harris/Walz. I really believe an energized youth vote may possibly be brewing up a big win.
it is really troubling that so many Americans are prepared to overlook the outrageous indiscretions of Donald Trump and vote for him....have they no selfrespect?
That's been true at least since Reagan. Whatever "issues" they try to scare us with are never anything but a disguise for their real agenda: to make their rich donors even richer at the expense of everybody else.
Cheney had an approval rating below 20% after the Gulf War intel debacle. Chris Christie had an approval rating below 20% after Bridgegate. Maybe people just can't believe that Trump has done the equivalent of 50 Bridgegates, so therefore he's a sympathetic figure who should be left alone by the horrible lion Dems. So Cheney and Christie's problem was that they needed to keep doing those things over and over, so that their usual supporters couldn't believe anything the newscaster said about them. Merchan et al. put off sentencing so it doesn't look political. But to those who reason this way, no sentencing is evidence in their minds that the indictments and convictions are all fake, and very much political. Just as Trump's followers can't believe he could be so awful, so the professionals can't imagine how confused his followers are. He needs to be sentenced for his followers to have an epiphany that the crimes are real.

Biden was up 6% in a national poll the Monday before the last election and barely won. Hillary was up 2% in a national poll the Monday before her election and barely lost. So, it would take a final national poll lead of 10% to provide any comfort. So, polls mean nothing to me. Voting is all that matters.
What do you mean he barely won? He had a historically large EC margin and popular vote margin. If you think that outcome was close, then I think you were just too stressed about the election and j6. (Understandably so)
i don't feel Biden barely won in 2020. close in some states, agreed but that's the state of things these days. he won by 7 million votes and nabbed 306 electoral votes. he got solid results in Michigan and PA and actually made it close in NC. In fact, NC is THE state to watch. win that and it's Over. JMO, naturally.
@@youtubename7819 Buddy, you have not looked at the voter margins in the swing states. Also, the EC margins were not historical, they were just good. Biden won AZ by 10,457, .4%; GA by 11,779, .3%, MI by 154,188, 2.8%, NV by 33,596, 2.4%, PA by 81,660, 1.2%, and WI by 20,682, .6%. So, if Biden lost AZ, GA and WI, which were decided by just 42,918 votes, or 4.3% on average, he is tied with Trump. The election rolls over to a House delegation (not member) vote which was majority Republican, 25-23-2. So, if the 25 delegations which were majority GOP voted Trump, which they would have done, Trump would have won the election. Therefore, the 2020 election was decided by less than 43,000 voters across just 3 states. Yes. I call that close.
@@youtubename7819 Going back just 40 years, only Bush/Kerry was a smaller EC margin of victory percentage. Historical? Not at all. You're not taking this election, the swing states and the math seriously enough. I'm not being mean, I'm being real with you. I'm a politics junkie. I live in Bucks County, PA, and I never cease to be amazed at the support Trump gets. There's one neighborhood that I cut through often, and the number of signs is dispiriting. That said, I do believe Trump supporters tend to feel much more compelled to publicize their views than other voters. I'm still hoping and praying for a Harris-Walz victory in November -- and my family will be doing our part in PA...
Where do you live? I am in the Harrisburg area. I'm looking forward to voting for Janelle Stelson so she can send Scott Perry back to Dillsburg, permanently.
Regarding the thing about "I don't like Trump but I do like his policies:" Some 90% of those people can't actually point to any specific policies of his that they like, probably because he doesn't do policy, he just blurts out whatever the random number generator in his otherwise empty skull puts up.
i could not have said it better. I've read what FIVE books from Trump WH staffers. He wakes up. Watches what people are arguing about on morning TV. Makes phone calls talking to people who are not actually in the government to bounce things off of. Refuses to actually listen to anyone who is advising him - instead turns it into a conversation about himself. He doesnt read anything that is not in the form of a review of how he is doing. He is careless with top secret information all the time. He invites absolutely crazy people into the WH to meet with him. My favorite. He will call the WH communications office to make an announcement about some kind of initiative or proposal that he's never discussed with anyone before - then the part of the govt responsible for that works 24 hrs a day to come up with drafted legislation, a coherent policy to post on the website, a communications strategy for social media, etc. a week later, he denies he said anything like that and throws all those people under the bus.

Trump is not popular at all. People vote on the economy and the economy is not great for many people. Usually, when the economy doesn’t feel good to most people, the incumbent party gets voted out. If the Republicans were running Mitt Romney, they’d be winning comfortably now. The reason why the GOP ain’t winning right now, is because Trump is at the top of the ticket. So no, Trump isn’t popular and is the reason why the race is close when it should not be. The GOP candidate should be winning comfortably

@auntiez4917 we used to be blue with a bit of red state. We have morphed into red with some blue tint. The unpredictable is probably a reflection of changes we are going through. There are countries that we're blue and are now bright red. I think this started in the 80s.. it's sad. I notice a difference in how people are. We used to be a progressive state. IMO, Scott Walker and Republicans did a lot of damage to our state ( they would say they made it better).we have dem governor with Republican house and senate. The legislative branch and Walker took away a lot of governors power prior to Walker being replaced by the governor. People's outlook has changed. The Michigan UP is worse than us.
As a former Cherry Hill resident who moved to the PA Philly suburbs, the very first thing I did was register to vote so that my vote actually made a difference in this election. But don’t be dissing Cherry Hill Tim!
A well-constructed sample size of 3000 has a confidence interval of +-3% for a population of 300 million. They don’t need to poll very many people to have robust predictions. That’s one of the many beauties of statistics!
Thats 1 in every 100,000 people. It is important to note that is for a national number and the polls were quite accurate on a national level in 2020; however at a state level they did worse. To have a similar confidence interval for every state you would need similar sized population, which makes election polling less accurate as we don’t have an election, we have 51 elections that get aggregated.
If you honestly believe that it’s even remotely close then you’re out of your mind because I’m a lifelong Republican and even I know Trump is going to lose and lose bad.
We’re all too traumatized by 2016 to ever say that again. Anything could happen. We all need to be willing to crawl over glass to make sure trump does not get back in the White House.
Are you crazy? Any poll that says Trump is close behind or tied is REALLY saying he is actually leading! Have you forgotten already that Trump was 8 points "behind" Hillary in 2016, and WON?!
Tim, you aren't the only one who's mood is affected by the forecasts and models, I'm right there with you! That's why I keep tuning in to see what you have to say. It's probably related to PTSD that we suffered during the fall of 2016, but as Kamala would say "We are Not Going Back"!!!
You need to update your information - YouGov and Ipsos, 2 reputable pollsters do the majority of their polling online, and I answer their polls regularly through being a member of their survey forums. Still a lot of landlines are called, but it’s a bit of a myth that landlines are the main source of polling
@merricat3025 In West Allis, only 1 out of 6 neighbors put up a Trump sign and - so far- we have gained 4 Harris signs. The bad news is there are 2 Hovde signs and 2 Baldwin. Only one of the Hovde signs also has a Trump sign which means ?

I just think of all the younger people who simply DO NOT answer the phone for unknown numbers. I'm a millennial and I don't pick up either. I'm a regular voter, and I will be voting Harris/Walz, but I've never answered any polls. It makes me tentatively hopeful.
Pollsters who say their surveys are still predictive, even after the pickup rate dropped from one per 10 calls to one per 100 calls, are overselling their product.
My take is that worst case scenario Harris fails to break through in the sun belt and it comes down to Pennsylvania. So the polls have her up three there but underlying that is the ground game. The Trump campaign's goal is 88 paid get out the vote staff, Dems have 375 paid staff and endless volunteers. In a close race that is a critical difference.

Several millions of voters died since 2020. Most of them, obviously, older folks. Several millions of new voters were added since then, mostly young people. How does this affect this election?.
It's a valid question/point, but the other factor is that it's likely that a far larger portion of the old dead voters actually voted versus those younger voters who replaced them. I think that's why an even greater push to get the younger new voters to actually vote.
@@taiwanisacountry Ah, but a very significant number of those who died, associated with COVID (supposedly) after 2020, were elderly, so there is some change from past elections in this regard. I listen to all this shit, and I scream, "THIS SYSTEM OF VOTING FOR PRESIDENT IS STUPID!!!" If we win this, we have to make sweeping electoral changes. Our election system is indeed broken!
I think this election is being over analyzed to hell, when in reality it's much more simpler. Normies like myself didn't vote for Trump or Hillary in 2016 and also didn't vote for Trump or Biden in 2020. Two big issues have happened since the last election that normies, like myself, have taken note of: the storming of the capital on January 6th and anti-abortion.These are associated with Trump and one of these issues alone would bring out normies to vote against him. Whatever the polls are showing, I can guarantee you that Harris is much higher. I'm the type of normie that candidates either have to be very scared of or very happy. Harris is winning by a landslide.
I'm in rural PA too, I've seen a recent increase in trump signs. BUT that's because the trump campaign opened a headquarters here. They hadn't done that at all in the last two elections. So, does that mean he was worried about losing some votes here?
Bucks County resident here! I’ve noticed the same thing. There are some identical HUGE Trump signs on many major thoroughfares here. My husband believes they were funded and installed by an organization. I suspect Jim Worthington (a Republican bigwig) is the master puppeteer. I’m really hoping we good, level headed people will outnumber them.

Yeah whenever people mention getting rid of the electoral college, someone always chimes in with “but swing state governors and senators would never agree to that!” And I know that person has never lived in a swing state. Swing staters are the first to want to end this madness.
I hate that my vote never matters This is only the second election in my 44 years that I actually intend to vote, and all of the effort is just to know I did it. (The effort being trying to figure out how to get my vote in from Vietnam)

Barely won? He won by 7 million more votes.
Historical? Not at all. Trump had the same percentage in 2016 and claimed it was historical but it was just one of his countless lies.

Regarding the thing about "I don't like Trump but I do like his policies:" Some 90% of those people can't actually point to any specific policies of his that they like, probably because he doesn't do policy, he just blurts out whatever the random number generator in his otherwise empty skull puts up.
It feels like that argument is just used as a justification for people to choose Trump.
They remember they liked the checks that the Democrats passed but Trump held up so he could sign them 🙄
Saying they like his (nonexistent) policies is just their secret language for “I’m not voting for a black woman”. Don’t be fooled.
i could not have said it better.

I just don't understand how Trump can be so popular.
The answer is simple. Same-sex marriage was legalized and the evangelicals can't handle it. They would rather the world burn than accept it.
Don't think it's popularity. Think it's more a case of they'll vote for anyone who has an R by their name. Those are the people who don't really pay attention to what 45 says. He's the R candidate, so that's who they'll vote for!

Thats 1 in every 100,000 people. It is important to note that is for a national number and the polls were quite accurate on a national level in 2020; however at a state level they did worse. Amy Walter... bingo... Kamala isn't making mistakes. Those kind of people are invaluable in an organization.
I love Amy. She makes the most sense of any pollster. So knowledgeable and intelligent. She and Larry Sabato are my favorites.
I live in Asheville and you guys described it to a T! Crystal worshipping, Kombucha drinking, ale brewing, patchouli wearing Democrats! Except me, I don’t do any of that 😂 but I still vote blue.
❌. This is why I can't watch Amy. Everything's always even up with her. Never mind momentum, forget about debates, and the inaccuracies of polling in previous elections. - forgotten. You don't know who's going to get it over the line, Amy? Maybe this will help - 💥🤯 ‼️ DOBBS. 💥‼️🤯
She's being real with us. This is where we are, good vibes don't win elections lots and lots of folks going out to vote do. We gotta fight all the way to the end.
This is such a solid episode. Hope to see more of Amy and Tim breaking down states from now until the election.
My sister lives in deep red Maine and she told me she is seeing more Harris signs than Trump signs
I live in a very red part of New Hampshire. Many more blue signs here now compared to prior elections.
❤ Tim and Amy love listening to you
Penn State is in the middle of absolute nowhere. Way more cows than people. It's Red out there.
Trump’s security detail should be provided by Haitians.🇨🇦
