We need a Lincoln Project commercial pointing out to young men that having no abortion rights means that they will need to pay to raise every child they sire.
Yes. I wish more people would actually read the Severino portion of Project 2025. What these guys really have in mind is to force people to rely on a rebranded version of the rhythm method.
When I was an undergraduate, I took a course in women's literature. The professor pointed out that back in the 40s and 50s, abortion was a men's issue, for the very reasons you point out. And the social pressure to marry the woman.
There are more females than males in this country. Women vote more often and more consistently than males. Also- we are very PISSED that we are lost our right to healthcare. Trump and shady Vance are burnt toast!! 💙💙💙💙
I keep saying, this is the first presidential election since Dobbs. Everyone is underestimating how motivating that is. The media might have forgotten...we haven't.
@@msmagsmn And the Harris campaign hasn't either. Her new ads are powerful messages about the aftermath of Dobbs. As are the recent ones by Lincoln Project and Meidas Touch.
@@lindalarson1948 instead of passing judgment you should start understanding that most women operate with positive intentions. The kind of belief you have here and others share helped give us the Dobbs decision. We should be having faith in our fellow females. Now the government has taken options away. With 2% of pregnancies ending in miscarriages and 2% being ectopic and another 4% having severe medical complications- that’s a lot of women that cannot get healthcare by way of abortion. The government should be responsible enough to take care of those women. But in the south they said tough shit deal with it. Why would we want to put our fellow citizens through that hardship?? Vote blue and start assuming positive intent. Stop kicking down. No one needs that. No one should be judged.
My very conservative husband has told me he is done with the GOP forever and is on board with Harris. My 93 year old mother is voting for Kamala, and so are my 4 children and their entire families. We are all voting straight blue tickets.
My $.02. Im a white male from east river South Dakota. I'm a lifelong Democrat and definitely voting for Kamala. Anecdotally, I have noticed fewer Trump flags and placards. I sense people are over his b.s. And, I think there is a real possibility of moving Iowa for Kamala. This is a fringe state, solidly red for years, but has made major shifts in favor of dems... support and donate if you can. If the campaign is strategic, we could crush Trump in the popular vote. The electoral will remain a challenge, but we need to send a BIG message to the GOP!
Hello, fellow Iowan here. I really hope you are right about Iowa moving for Kamala. I've been a Democrat voter for the last 4 years, and was only able to vote 8 years ago.
I noticed when the Trump and conservative flags left Sturgis and the bike rallies. For a few years it was a sea of those rag flags. A lot of regulars started camping away from that crew.
As a male from the family that produced the first woman voted to the US Senate I am proud to be voting for the first female US President, Kamala Harris.
LOL..my sister-in-law is hounding my brother to vote for Kamala or a the most - not vote for Trump given, at a minimum, his sexual assault / predator personality.
I have been canvassing every weekend in Wisconsin in a south, eastern rural county. There have been many women who are saying don’t talk to my husband because we are registered Republicans. However, he’s not gonna know when I actually vote for Harris. So there are married women who are hiding their support for Harris because they don’t want to fight with their husbands about it.

People in the US usually can't tell the differences between the people to their left. To a proud boy there is no difference between Mitt Romney, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and a communist. He will say "They all want the same thing, they just move at different speeds." To him they are politically interchangeable. But a communist can look at all the people to their right and tell you the actual differences in the kind of world those folks want to build. It is an education problem for sure.

At some point the pundits have to either live it or hang with the people to really get it. The university speak doesn't get it done. Pols do the university speak from afar and never quite get things done in a way that helps those who need it most. Tax breaks for the poor do not help those too poor to have to pay taxes, for example. Yet that is what most pols offer now. I get it. easier on the immediate budget outlay. And we will have to nudge Harris so she doesn't hand the housing money to developers instead of the people so they can pick their own builder and get a home.
As an Ohioan and Korean born American citizen, I can say this is the most shameful thing the Vance's and Jordan's have done😢. My friends and I are heading to Springfield to show support for Haitian businesses.
I’m a Texas resident that lives in a major city so it’s mainly democrat. However, I often drive through rural Texas. The amount of Harris Walz signs I saw in rural Texas was unbelievable…., I was honestly shocked. Very few trump signs. Of course, signs don’t vote but I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years I’ve been in Texas.
Eh, it's complicated. There's defamation, and it's hard to win a defamation case because we value free speech very highly, but it's definitely a thing. I think they are considering prosecuting JD Vance and Trump for their words, btw. But the bigger problem is twofold: 1. There are a lot of republican government officials that control the states and are in the courts that are pro-Trump, and 2. Trump will just call this prosecution "politically motivated" and "election interference", which a lot of times pushes people to vote for him and to donate to him.
OK, a little late for this chat, but I'll put it on another as well ... @@Spearca I really like how you put that. I have great neighbors. We'll trade vegetables from our gardens, they've surprised me with anonymous birthday pizza and shown up on my doorstep with a homemade chicken pot pie. I hear people talk about not wanting to be a target as a result of a yard sign. There's a perspective that the flip side of target is beacon.

Young married guy here. Wanted to address the point JVL made about Kamala turning out low propensity voters. My wife voted in 2008 and 2012. Hasn’t voted since and didn’t plan on voting in November. Ever since the switch, she now wants to vote and will only vote in person. I think this tells us that there could be a surprise turnout for Kamala among low engagement voters, and we may not even see this in the data until Election Day.

I love your podcast so much. I look forward to it every day. It feels like the only place I can go to listen to thoughtful conversations without bringing me to the verge of a stroke or heart attack. Keep it up, everyone. You are a beacon of democracy. 🗽 🇺🇸
I hope all Republican voters realize they are actually voting for JD Vance for President. Trump could have a heart attack or stroke at any time. He’ll be almost 80 by the time he would take office and once he’s pardoned, he’s out of there and going to play golf.
Vance lacks charisma, but not greed and cruelty. Better not to "confuse" voters, since Trump's fans are glued to Trump and we don't want to hand him die-hard Republicans who hate only Trump because they underestimate Vance's shared danger to democracy (a Heritage fave, after all).
That’s the plan. Trump will pull a Nixon & resign as Vance gives him a pardon & several billion from the Tech Bros. Then Thiel will get the country he has always dreamed about.
Everyone I talked to said “they are both bad choices.” Please or my “husband says to vote for the 🍊😱🤡. Then they bitched up a storm when his idiocy became apparent.

Hello! Fellow Iowan here. I'm in Sioux City. I do wish we can flip blue again, but I'm still hesitant about that. Hopefully we at least flip some congress seats.
I live in a tiny, rural town in Indiana. There are six (maybe seven) families of color here. If there were suddenly thirty my neighbors would panic. In a survey more than 60% of the people here have never been more than 100 miles from this town. As someone who has lived in a major metro city and travelled widely it’s hard for me to wrap my head around how insular things are but change is hard and fear is real. It’s wrong but it’s very, very real.
Yeah but I’m 73 and never traveled more than 200 miles from my home in Northern California except for vacations to Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Costa Rica and The Carribean and I’m a lifelong Democrat voter in every election! 🗳️
@@ThanaBrunges-mx7ji I was raised in Northern CA too and lived there until I was 40. It’s VERY different there than here. In CA people are from all kinds of places and the concept of the world being a big, wide place is everywhere. Here the world is feared and foreign. In this town you aren’t from here unless you and your parents were born here, and by “here” I literally mean in this town. If you are from the next town then you “ain’t from around here.” No joke. Folks here are practically crushed by fear. It’s endemic.
Let's be real. These pundits most likely live in a white bread world a lot of the time too. It does take time. I am so used to integration of cultures I feel weird in an all white area. Doesn't seem natural to me.
An excellent episode as a whole, and Sarah's discussion of why an influx of people from another culture can be both a good thing, and also profoundly sad and disorienting, is amazing. Especially as we get older, changes often seem like loss, and in some of these cases there's a tremendous amount of actual loss going on. It's not simple, and people need their leaders to help; to model openness and compassion and welcome, to listen and work on fixing the issues, and to keep reminding them of the benefits. Thank you for an exceptional discussion.
You all, Bulwark, are nailing it! Great analyses, examples, discussion!!! Thank you so much!!! And this one is yet another I'm sharing with family /friends. Thank you!!!❤❤❤
I live in Ohio. I'm a blue dot in a sea of red and the mom of 2 LGBTQ kids, one of whom is trans. I agree with what you all said about Dewine. He does remind me of the old style Republican. I used to be one as well. In fact, 2016 was the first time I didn't vote Republican. Dewine was great during the pandemic and it was the Republicans that fought against him. When he vetoed the anti trans bill, I was literally bawling but it was the Republican supermajority that overturned his veto. I've seen him on TV denouncing the lies against Springfield. He's a good man at heart, but I swear, he would never not vote Republican. He's like my in-laws. Really good people that hate Trump but will never vote Democrat. My in-laws live in a very blue Denver suburb so they decided to stay home because they feel like their vote doesn't matter anyhow. So, instead of doing the right thing and voting Democrat, they are not voting. I hope that they will eventually come around and be on the right side of history for the sake of their 17 year old twin grandchildren who love them. 💔
Hyperbolic, essentialist generalizations of entire people groups for the purpose of de-legitimizing or de-humanizing the "opposition" and falsely propping up your narrative... Not even once... JD Vance admitting that he "creates" lies presumably with the intention to bring issues to light is absolutely outrageous. Bring issues to light telling the truth. You are a senator for your state to the US Senate. In addtion, you are the the VP candidate for one of the two major parties. Be responsible JD Vance.
@@BonnieGovoni that's the point. I heard JD say that he had to make stuff up to have the media talk about it. His lies about Haitians eating pets has caused fear of and hatred towards innocent people. That is disgraceful, using lies for gain, not caring about who is hurt by your lies. And then there was 45 and JD making political use of the accidental death of a boy, blaming it on illegal migrants. The poor father had to speak in public asking them to stop.
Speaking as a guy who is in his mid 50's I registered for the first time since I voted 20 years ago. I generally liok at the electoral college and think, I won't make a dent. I love the Bulwark and watch almost every episode. There are 3 things that I wish they would understand: 1. Getting Democrats off their butts is more important than the semi-mythical Obama-Trump voter. 2. The Republican Party has been shit since the 1965-70's polarity flip between the parties, after the Civil Rights legislation passed. They are the former Confederacy. The cloak is just being pulled back. 3. The impact of Christian Nationalism on the Confederacy is a leading driver for what motivates Trump supporters. .... I'm going to get off my high horse now...Thanks for seeing the light. Keep up the good work.
All of us are afraid to be too optimistic. I just keep praying and hoping that it’s going to go our way. We have to hope that it’s a big win so that the Stop the Steal movement is crippled. And, most importantly, we want Trump to leave the stage and never return.
Although it has taken far too long, DonCon WILL be prosecuted, federal and state, if he loses. The evidence against him is overwhelming in the documents case. Presidential immunity doesn't apply. The evidence in the insurrection case is a little less clearcut, but still powerful. Jack Smith is a master of prosecution and his skills have yet to peak. Conviction is highly likely in that case as well. The Georgia RICO case provides powerful evidence and multiple co-defendants who will sing like canaries to save their own butts. I think DJT will likely be convicted there as well but may not serve time. Insead, he'll be locked up in a max security federal facility, in solitary 24x7x365, under constant video surveillance, _for the rest of his life_. With how important constant validation is for him, I believe he'll probably survive between six and 18 months - at the outside. Maximum of a year is more likely. The odds of his making it to November 2028 are vastly against him.
As much as I love you guys (and you all give me hope), the denim discussion in this broadcast was fabulous. Also, I was shocked to learn my most conservative Republican relatives said that after Jan. 6th they would never vote for him.
I love all three of you so much! I watch a short list of podcasts every day, but the magic chemistry here of deep experience and wisdom, sincerity, concern and the all-important comedic sensibility makes me feel comforted, human, and not alone. Excellent episode I'm totally disgusted with the whole Springfield Ohio thing. Yes Sarah; you're absolutely right about driving through the towns of once vibrant communities and seeing the emptiness of the abandoned homes, businesses, and factories. I have traveled through so many...it made me sad. The worst was in 2018; I spent some time going through and really looking up and down streets with empty houses, for sale signs, and some boarded up; it made me so mad Those were in eastern regions; it was just as bad through the Midwest where farms were abandoned and homes boarded up... commercial farming forcing family farms to close. Thank you all very much 💙💙💙👍👍👍💙💙💙
and when the locals abandoned their own downtown family merchants to shop at walmart costco & home depot to save $2 on socks or nails or eggs .. and then complained about losing businesses .. how to explain that ??
Key words are traveling through. Too few stop to shop and talk. University trained libs are some of the worst regarding that. They may hit the clubs in groups now and then, but that's about it.
Sarah has the point. Organize and rally like you’re behind in the race. Keep foot on the pedal, >50 days until we sweep this scourge back under the rug.
What miffs me about these video makers is they are assuming people aren't doing that. Many are and have been every day. Doing the heavy work while they grin for a camera and bring in the bucks. It's a strange new form of "activism".

We need a Lincoln Project commercial pointing out to young men that having no abortion rights means that they will need to pay to raise every child they sire.
And methods of birth control that interfere with embryo implantation are on the chopping block.

Eh, it's complicated. There's defamation, and it's hard to win a defamation case because we value free speech very highly, but it's definitely a thing.
Thank you Sarah!! Your outage is where I am.... and your vocalizing it helps me. Now I just have to figure how to channel mine. Thank you!
REAL MEN VOTE BLUE!! ☑
The media needs this election to be a horse race. However, it won't be nearly as close as they'd like. *_HARRIS/WALZ 2024💙💙💙_*
Let's keep it going!
Vote Blue2024!
Keep The Faith!!!

Love you guys; you match my anger and frustration perfectly! WE are the sane ones, not THEM!
I’m a 77 year old woman raised in the DC political culture and for the second half of my life feeling somewhat marooned in the rigid PC culture of California. I live alone in Mexico now, more comfortable with the distance from my troubled country. But I keep up, and I vote. Thank you for all you do!
I can’t believe anyone in Springfield would vote for Trump.
Excellent episode
I'm totally disgusted with the whole Springfield Ohio thing. Yes Sarah; you're absolutely right about driving through the towns of once vibrant communities and seeing the emptiness of the abandoned homes, businesses, and factories. I have traveled through so many...it made me sad. The worst was in 2018; I spent some time going through and really looking up and down streets with empty houses, for sale signs, and some boarded up; it made me so mad
Those were in eastern regions; it was just as bad through the Midwest where farms were abandoned and homes boarded up... commercial farming forcing family farms to close.
Thank you all very much

and when the locals abandoned their own downtown family merchants to shop at walmart costco & home depot to save $2 on socks or nails or eggs .. and then complained about losing businesses .. how to explain that ??
Key words are traveling through. Too few stop to shop and talk. University trained libs are some of the worst regarding that. They may hit the clubs in groups now and then, but that's about it.
Im as angry as she is!
Sarah has the point. Organize and rally like you’re behind in the race. Keep foot on the pedal, >50 days until we sweep this scourge back under the rug.
Run through the tape and keep on running. We have to do it.
What miffs me about these video makers is they are assuming people aren't doing that. Many are and have been every day. Doing the heavy work while they grin for a camera and bring in the bucks. It's a strange new form of "activism".
