Hi Marc! I'm a huge fan, and really appreciate all the work you've put into protecting our rights to vote! Big question: what are the chances of getting national/federal protection against these kinds of attacks on voting? Is there any way to standardize voting locations and protection, both physically and legally?

My kid just registered to vote this year and voted for the first time in the primary this year. My kid has lived at our address her whole life. This month, True the Vote started sending letters stating that my kid has to send in a new registration because they think my kid doesnt live at our address. These people are insane!
Your kid got their attention because of her age. My friends who just moved to Georgia registered as Republicans (even though they usually vote for Democrats) because they didn't want to deal with any BS voter registration challenges (so far, so good...but a truly sad state of affairs).

Hooray! I am a Georgia voter and we are going to make Georgia Blue again!! As for the voter rolls not being clean. My mother-in-law died this summer and three weeks later we got official notice that she had been dropped from the voting rolls (as she should be). Georgia is already on top of this, but allowing these frivolous lawsuits to even exist is deeply disturbing.
Kemp and Rafensperger are clearly selective in what kinds of voter suppression they are for and against. Kemp inquired about if he had the legal authority to fire the election denying MAGA election officials who intend to not certify the results of the election in their district. Small miracles can cause big things to happen! 💙
My friend in Ohio was shocked to see he was no longer registered to vote. (Votes democrat but don't know if that's relevant.) He quickly re-registered. Horrible people.
I wonder why he would have been removed from the registry? Does one have to re-register after a certain amount of time, even if they continue to meet all conditions that would otherwise maintain their valid registration? There are other reasons for legitimate registration drops but of course everyone needs to be vigilant about their status as the country hits the homestretch. We know the magaTs have and will continue to scourge the rights of suspected democrats and even statistically probable ones based on their voting metrics (age, region etc...). You raise another interesting point about voting preference. Not being an American, it took some handy googling to finally answered a question I have had for some time now about what it means to register for a party in the US. If I got the right feedback, registration only applies to a person's right to vote in primaries, the series of in-party elections to determine the party leader. So now once a person puts their name and party affiliation onto a database, who has access to that data? And I guess there could be another problem if magaTs have access to the republican registry and from that inductively figure out who are (or probably are) the democrats out there to target! Stay vigilant blue people!
Absolutely not! The Republican Party is the party that tries all the gerrymandering, puts forth all the frivolous law suits regarding voting, making it harder to vote in Georgia and does nothing but lie and promote a demented old man with his desperate attempts to keep his orange self out of jail.
Exactly, I always vote in Georgia on the first or second day of early voting, and check often to ensure I'm still registered and active. HARRIS/WALZ 2024! Our R officials are ALL crooks, and Kemp shouldn't even be in office since he was in charge of the election he got himself "voted" into office with.
Also: if you are told that your name is purged from the voter roll when you show up to vote on Election Day, DEMAND a provisional ballot. BRING YOUR ID. Do NOT leave without voting. You have the right as a citizen to vote for the representatives of YOUR choice! Look up the provisional ballot rules for your state. Thank you!
*Verify your voter registration!* In most states October 7th is the last day to register (or fix a registration issue without the hassle of casting a provisional ballot). One good thing in Georgia is that it’s easy to register and verify your registration online. Search for “Georgia mvp”. MVP = “my voter page.” The same site can be used to find your polling place, request a mailin ballot, and to view a sample ballot prior to going to vote in person. The new Georgia unlimited voter challenge law requires that a reason be provided to challenge a voter’s registration. My GA registration was challenged with a reason that was literally displayed on MVP as “”. So clearly these evil people have found a way to bypass that part of the law. Check your registration regularly, and especially by October 7th.
We need all kinds of FEDERAL laws governing elections, now the states run them and make the rules, even for the presidential race, our ONE TRULY NATIONAL election that we have. It's inefficient and stupid.
@@Valizan Asking from Scotland - why would a vote for a federal role not be a federal concern? Here the central government has control over the electoral registers, by which I mean that laws govrerning who can can vote are passed at the UK level.. To vote at any level, right down to Community Council, you need to be on that register.

As a GA voter I am beyond tired and disgusted that my state keeps ending up in the national news. My international cousins keep asking me what is wrong with the people here. There is no excuse.
@@lynnd. In my opinion, and I don't mean for it to sound snarky or insulting, but the problem with Georgia and many other states is that so many people just don't bother to vote. Look at Texas, for example. Nearly half (HALF!!) of the eligible voters in TX don't bother to vote, and some of their worst, most @busive politicians win their elections by such close margins that just a few percent more people on the left of center going out to vote would lead to the election of completely different people.
@jayogee913 Totally agree. If you don't vote, you can't complain. Sadly, the larger the county it seems the lower the participation. And those are the ones most impacted negatively. My great grandmother was a suffragette and all the women in my family would crawl over broken glass to vote. I always made sure my vote was in on time when I was overseas in the Army. That's what happens when you stop teaching history and civics in schools.

Wanton endangerment is a crime that occurs when someone recklessly disregards the risk of causing serious injury or death to others. It can be charged even if the person didn't intend to cause harm or commit a crime.

Georgia law is made by a Republican supermajority. They’re not going to pass a law that punishes Republicans who challenge Democratic voters. And the current law allows anyone to make *unlimited* challenges to voters in their district. And there’s _no penalty_ for making excessive frivolous, unsubstantiated challenges.
I checked my voter reg and it is all good here in Oregon. Please support Janelle Bynum who is hoping, as a Dem, to win against a very "red" part of the state here as our District 5 Rep. In that part of Oregon, Harney County, I think, in 2000 or so, there was a stand-off with law enforcement over territory. Guns were involved but I do not recall if anyone was hurt. In 1985 the same area was invaded by the Rajaneesh cult. It was a mess near Madras, Oregon until that got resolved. The local ranchers were completly flumoxed! Every vote for Democracy counts! ❤
And check your voter registration again on October 7th. In most states that’s the last day to register and to correct invalid voter purges and challenges.
The fact that anyone can just go online and say someone should be removed from voting is going to far. There is no way that should be allowed..it is the job of the election boards to purge the rolls not the public.
I don't even understand why Americans need to be 'registered to vote' in the first place. If you're a citizen, you're allowed to vote. How hard can it be?
That is so easily remedied, too! We all should be registered automatically thru our Social Security numbers (or some similar number we all receive upon birth or reception of citizenship). And if a card or other such ID is necessary, we must all receive one absolutely free of charge.

In fairness in the uk though registering for a party doesn’t happen, you just register to vote, you have to re register every election. I don’t see what the problem is with that, if you have moved house ,or become a citizen of another country , or even died of course you shouldn’t be eligible to vote. Uk elections are famously secure
@@dianeshelton9592 the issue is that people who register are being de-registered, and sometimes they are not aware. So they need to keep checking. I am also from the uk originally and didn’t know this was a thing.
Our nephew's wife was removed from the voter roll 3 times, twice in the same election cycle in 2020, previously in 2016. They live in Texas. Her heritage is Mexican but was born in Austin. She has a very common Hispanic name _[first [compound, like e.g. 'Annamaria'/Anna-Maria vs Anna Maria'] and last name... she maintained her maiden name after marrying our nephew 22 years ago]._ In 2016, she hadn't voted for 2 years so got booted then re-registered. In 2020 the first time, they never gave her a logical reason, but the second time she eventually found out that everybody in Texas with her exact common name [might have been up to 50] was purged, just because one woman in San Antonio with the exact[ish]* name tried to register but was not a citizen, was born in Mexico and her parents brought her to the U.S. when she was 2 months old... ... so in the 'grand wisdom' of the Secretary of State, every person in Texas with the same name was also purged. Our nephew's wife was told it was a 'computer glitch'... ya, right... She re-registered. * the exact[sh] thing had to do with her signature, specifically whether or whether or not she used a hyphen in her first name. She has a hyphen, but the faulty pen she used didn't produce ink in her hyphen, making her second half of her first name look like a first middle name [but a test with a pencil eventually produced the imprint of the hyphen]. i.e. not even the 'exact' same name. Total b.s.. And, when they took her off the rolls, they also took our nephew off the rolls, evidently just because he was married to her, even though he has a very Caucasian name. They found out that he was suspected of being a 'Green Card' husband and was 'protecting' an 'illegal alien'. They found out because they were instructed to produce a marriage license and witnesses to prove likewise and she had to produce a birth certificate... ... and our nephew is a Georgia-born 'good ol' boy' who became a Deputy Sheriff in Alameda County, CA Deputy Sheriff who then moved _[because Alameda was too racist and abusive]_ to become a Harris County Deputy _[even turning down a Sheriff nomination]..._ and lifelong registered Republican... as was his wife. After the third round of voter roll b.s., they switched to become registered Democrats in retirement. Our nephew's wife _[yes, we call her our [beloved] niece]_ almost considered adopting her husbands' Caucasian name to avoid the b.s., but even we told her ' Oh Hell No', honor your family and heritage. Now in retirement, they bought a small fleet of buses _[eventually 5, 3 being re-fabed small school buses]_ to deliver remote Texas residents, many Native Americans and small Hispanic/Latino communities, to registration offices, mail ballot boxes and polling locations and offer non-partisan voting seminars to those communities... ...but also provide information about both parties, explain disinformation and propaganda _[from both sides... but one side is definitely far, far more egregious, especially within targeted Spanish-speaking disinformation and propaganda, especially in churches, especially ever-growing Evangelical' churches, since it does not have any credible fact checking and information protection - most clarifying, factual resources - epiphany-inducing 'resources', including personal original film from the 70's-80's [long story] - provided to them by my wife [her c.v. is also a long, but very pertinent story]... also a lifelong registered Republican... since voting for Nixon]_ to those interested. As an aside, my wife [and I] have 'deprgrammed' over 60 MAGA, MAGA-curious and, at the time, 'Tea Party' family [extremely few], friends and friendly acquaintences... and total strangers, usually friends of friends _[who then became friends and friendly acquaintences afterwards]_ over about 15 years using my wife's 'resources', charisma, knowledge, experience and 'skill' _[and mine too, as an unbiased, personable, nice, level-headed Canadian... my wfe of 33 years is Florida-raised with family from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia and Oregon, where we lived and stll have a home in, for 13 years... ...we're retired in Canada now... thanks too my wife; I suggested retiring to Jacksonville FL 11 years ago... one 'soul-shrivelling look' from her _[I think my knees buckled a bit, might have also peed myself a bit too, and I'm a strong, confident man... devastating 'glare' that seemed to last a half-hour]_ made me packing our 'cold weather gear' 10 minutes later... 3 months later we were back to our 20-year formerly owned Canadian home, now moved from to a nice, small town... In the 2022 midterms, their initial 3-bus fleet plus personal vehicles and a 'staff' of 5 logged over 6,600 miles, back-and-forth, helping over 2,500 potential voters. They are literally now on the road getting people checking registration/registering/re-registering, every 'tiny' corner of Texas, now that it's too late to purge [more]. Awesome... and proud of them. We might travel down from Canada to help.
@@dianeshelton9592 I'm a UK voter too. You do have to reregister, but you receive a letter in the post with a form and a prepaid envelope. The form has the names of those who were previously registered at that address, and space to add more names. You are required to cancel any of the names that are no longer at that address and should add the names of new residents. So the reregistering is pretty seamless.

Swing State voters should make an effort to vote early and in person if at all possible, voting by Mail is great but unfortunately they will do everything possible to reject ballots cast by Mail.
I agree, though I admit that I'm not sure how likely any given ballot is to be challenged. During the last presidential election I voted early in person because I was worried about this. I asked a bunch of questions to make sure that it would count as "in person" rather than "absentee." In Wisconsin these are different categories, but you should check with your county clerk in your district to be absolutely sure. I live in a VERY red district, so mine isn't very likely to be challenged, but it's been pretty clear that Republicans are trying to cause as much trouble as possible. Every time I think about skipping a school board election or one that I don't know much about, I remember how much Republicans don't want me to vote. That is enough to to get my a$$ in gear.
The postal service is really failing in Georgia. Don’t count on a mailin ballot getting delivered in time to be counted. And then there’s also the notorious signature match issue, which all too frequently tosses out mailin ballots. I’ll be voting in person.
Their dirty tricks speak volumes as to the kind of people they are, the campaign they are running and the kind of leadership they are offering- dirty. Wise up "R" voters.

Exactly, I always vote in Georgia on the first or second day of early voting, and check often to ensure I'm still registered and active. HARRIS/WALZ 2024! Our R officials are ALL crooks, and Kemp shouldn't even be in office since he was in charge of the election he got himself "voted" into office with.
Also: if you are told that your name is purged from the voter roll when you show up to vote on Election Day, DEMAND a provisional ballot. BRING YOUR ID. Do NOT leave without voting. You have the right as a citizen to vote for the representatives of YOUR choice! Look up the provisional ballot rules for your state. Thank you!
*Verify your voter registration!* In most states October 7th is the last day to register (or fix a registration issue without the hassle of casting a provisional ballot).
One good thing in Georgia is that it’s easy to register and verify your registration online. Search for “Georgia mvp”. MVP = “my voter page.” The same site can be used to find your polling place, request a mailin ballot, and to view a sample ballot prior to going to vote in person.
The new Georgia unlimited voter challenge law requires that a reason be provided to challenge a voter’s registration. My GA registration was challenged with a reason that was literally displayed on MVP as “”. So clearly these evil people have found a way to bypass that part of the law. Check your registration regularly, and especially by October 7th.
I think we need a federal law that says you cannot Purge your voter rolls during a 6-month period before a federal election

Here the central government has control over the electoral registers, by which I mean that laws govrerning who can can vote are passed at the UK level.. To vote at any level, right down to Community Council, you need to be on that register.

I truly hope more people in Georgia vote this year and every year from now on. I can't believe anyone would care so little about their rights being taken away and being blocked from voting that they would skip casting a ballot.
As a GA voter I am beyond tired and disgusted that my state keeps ending up in the national news. My international cousins keep asking me what is wrong with the people here. There is no excuse.
@@lynnd. In my opinion, and I don't mean for it to sound snarky or insulting, but the problem with Georgia and many other states is that so many people just don't bother to vote. Look at Texas, for example. Nearly half (HALF!!) of the eligible voters in TX don't bother to vote, and some of their worst, most @busive politicians win their elections by such close margins that just a few percent more people on the left of center going out to vote would lead to the election of completely different people.
@jayogee913 Totally agree. If you don't vote, you can't complain. Sadly, the larger the county it seems the lower the participation. And those are the ones most impacted negatively. My great grandmother was a suffragette and all the women in my family would crawl over broken glass to vote. I always made sure my vote was in on time when I was overseas in the Army. That's what happens when you stop teaching history and civics in schools.
This harassment is effectively a poll tax.

Please support Janelle Bynum who is hoping, as a Dem, to win against a very "red" part of the state here as our District 5 Rep.
In that part of Oregon, Harney County, I think, in 2000 or so, there was a stand-off with law enforcement over territory. Guns were involved but I do not recall if anyone was hurt.
In 1985 the same area was invaded by the Rajaneesh cult. It was a mess near Madras, Oregon until that got resolved. The local ranchers were completly flumoxed!

The fact that anyone can just go online and say someone should be removed from voting is going to far. There is no way that should be allowed..it is the job of the election boards to purge the rolls not the public.
I don't even understand why Americans need to be 'registered to vote' in the first place. If you're a citizen, you're allowed to vote. How hard can it be?
That is so easily remedied, too! We all should be registered automatically thru our Social Security numbers (or some similar number we all receive upon birth or reception of citizenship).
And if a card or other such ID is necessary, we must all receive one absolutely free of charge.

In fairness in the uk though registering for a party doesn’t happen, you just register to vote, you have to re register every election. I don’t see what the problem is with that, if you have moved house ,or become a citizen of another country , or even died of course you shouldn’t be eligible to vote.

Our nephew's wife was removed from the voter roll 3 times, twice in the same election cycle in 2020, previously in 2016.
They live in Texas. Her heritage is Mexican but was born in Austin. She has a very common Hispanic name _[first [compound, like e.g. 'Annamaria'/Anna-Maria vs Anna Maria'] and last name... she maintained her maiden name after marrying our nephew 22 years ago]._ In 2016, she hadn't voted for 2 years so got booted then re-registered. In 2020 the first time, they never gave her a logical reason, but the second time she eventually found out that everybody in Texas with her exact common name [might have been up to 50] was purged, just because one woman in San Antonio with the exact[ish]* name tried to register but was not a citizen, was born in Mexico and her parents brought her to the U.S. when she was 2 months old...
... so in the 'grand wisdom' of the Secretary of State, every person in Texas with the same name was also purged. Our nephew's wife was told it was a 'computer glitch'... ya, right... She re-registered.
* the exact[sh] thing had to do with her signature, specifically whether or whether or not she used a hyphen in her first name. She has a hyphen, but the faulty pen she used didn't produce ink in her hyphen, making her second half of her first name look like a first middle name [but a test with a pencil eventually produced the imprint of the hyphen]. i.e. not even the 'exact' same name. Total b.s..
And, when they took her off the rolls, they also took our nephew off the rolls, evidently just because he was married to her, even though he has a very Caucasian name. They found out that he was suspected of being a 'Green Card' husband and was 'protecting' an 'illegal alien'. They found out because they were instructed to produce a marriage license and witnesses to prove likewise and she had to produce a birth certificate...
... and our nephew is a Georgia-born 'good ol' boy' who became a Deputy Sheriff in Alameda County, CA Deputy Sheriff who then moved _[because Alameda was too racist and abusive]_ to become a Harris County Deputy _[even turning down a Sheriff nomination]..._ and lifelong registered Republican... as was his wife.
After the third round of voter roll b.s., they switched to become registered Democrats in retirement. Our nephew's wife _[yes, we call her our [beloved] niece]_ almost considered adopting her husbands' Caucasian name to avoid the b.s., but even we told her ' Oh Hell No', honor your family and heritage.
Now in retirement, they bought a small fleet of buses _[eventually 5, 3 being re-fabed small school buses]_ to deliver remote Texas residents, many Native Americans and small Hispanic/Latino communities, to registration offices, mail ballot boxes and polling locations and offer non-partisan voting seminars to those communities...
...but also provide information about both parties, explain disinformation and propaganda _[from both sides... but one side is definitely far, far more egregious, especially within targeted Spanish-speaking disinformation and propaganda, especially in churches, especially ever-growing Evangelical' churches, since it does not have any credible fact checking and information protection - most clarifying, factual resources - epiphany-inducing 'resources', including personal original film from the 70's-80's [long story] - provided to them by my wife [her c.v. is also a long, but very pertinent story]... also a lifelong registered Republican... since voting for Nixon]_ to those interested.
As an aside, my wife [and I] have 'deprgrammed' over 60 MAGA, MAGA-curious and, at the time, 'Tea Party' family [extremely few], friends and friendly acquaintences... and total strangers, usually friends of friends _[who then became friends and friendly acquaintences afterwards]_ over about 15 years using my wife's 'resources', charisma, knowledge, experience and 'skill' _[and mine too, as an unbiased, personable, nice, level-headed Canadian... my wfe of 33 years is Florida-raised with family from Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia and Oregon, where we lived and stll have a home in, for 13 years...
...we're retired in Canada now... thanks too my wife; I suggested retiring to Jacksonville FL 11 years ago... one 'soul-shrivelling look' from her _[I think my knees buckled a bit, might have also peed myself a bit too, and I'm a strong, confident man... devastating 'glare' that seemed to last a half-hour]_ made me packing our 'cold weather gear' 10 minutes later... 3 months later we were back to our 20-year formerly owned Canadian home, now moved from to a nice, small town...
In the 2022 midterms, their initial 3-bus fleet plus personal vehicles and a 'staff' of 5 logged over 6,600 miles, back-and-forth, helping over 2,500 potential voters. They are literally now on the road getting people checking registration/registering/re-registering, every 'tiny' corner of Texas, now that it's too late to purge [more].
Awesome... and proud of them. We might travel down from Canada to help.
@@dianeshelton9592 I'm a UK voter too. You do have to reregister, but you receive a letter in the post with a form and a prepaid envelope. The form has the names of those who were previously registered at that address, and space to add more names. You are required to cancel any of the names that are no longer at that address and should add the names of new residents. So the reregistering is pretty seamless.

Swing State voters should make an effort to vote early and in person if at all possible, voting by Mail is great but unfortunately they will do everything possible to reject ballots cast by Mail.
I agree, though I admit that I'm not sure how likely any given ballot is to be challenged. During the last presidential election I voted early in person because I was worried about this. I asked a bunch of questions to make sure that it would count as "in person" rather than "absentee." In Wisconsin these are different categories, but you should check with your county clerk in your district to be absolutely sure. I live in a VERY red district, so mine isn't very likely to be challenged, but it's been pretty clear that Republicans are trying to cause as much trouble as possible. Every time I think about skipping a school board election or one that I don't know much about, I remember how much Republicans don't want me to vote. That is enough to to get my a$$ in gear.
The postal service is really failing in Georgia. Don’t count on a mailin ballot getting delivered in time to be counted. And then there’s also the notorious signature match issue, which all too frequently tosses out mailin ballots. I’ll be voting in person.
