  • Medium-density fiberboard MDF is generally cheaper than plywood, but it is not as hard and can sag under heavyweight. MDF doesn't handle moisture very well, so it is more suited for indoor use, such as in furniture.

Best comparison. Both have their plus and minus. MDF is cost efficient. Gives pleasant look for interiors. Plywood for strength and long durability....

MDF is not softer than Plywood. It is actually substantially harder than ordinary Plywood on the Janka scale. With the single exception of modulus of rupture it is also stronger than ordinary Plywood and much more stable. Like Plywood, it can be purchased in water resistant varieties (Like Medex, for example) that are made with exterior grade glue.

I have decided to use plywood for the base of the loft I'm planning and MDF for postforming shutters to cover it. Plywood won't sag under weight and MDF doors even if it gets damaged in course of time can be changed... They give a good smooth look which is important in interior works...

Sister MDF Board attack by terrmite or no problem please reply.

MDF itself is not particularly attractive to termites. This is because it lacks the cellulose (sugars) that termites find appealing in natural wood.

The strength of 18mm ply is equal to 25mm thick MDF board but MDF is cheaper than plywood, if you use MDF it turns out to be 30%-35% cheaper than plywood.
