    I really like that you framed the comparison of Notion vs Obsidian based on intended use cases, from simple (structured vs unstructured) to very specific (languages, engineering etc.). I wish you would have covered the privacy and security topic for both though; Notion not providing end to end encryption for your data and giving Notion employees access to your data 'with permission' from the company, versus Obsidian storing your data locally on your PC and being infinitely more secure.

      True - probably would have been good to cover that, but thanks for writing a good description for me :)

    Obsidian has toggles
    You have to use # heading
    The no. of # determines its hierarchy

    • @dabi_
      @dabi_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ah, true, technically both headings and list items can act like a toggle of sorts, albeit in a different way to Notion. Nicely pointed out.

    You explained it so well and provided the clarity I was looking for! I've been trying to make Notion work for the past year, but all I have is pieces everywhere and its utter chaos to connect them and pull them when I need the info. I heard of Obsidian as a good alternative and so after watching this Im going to give it a try into 2023 to see if it fits me better! Thank you for the vid!!

    1 more to add.
    if you use a lot of images and screenshots,
    in notion you can resize and move the image,
    whereas obsidian .. you can but really not flexible.
    also the markdown of the image sometimes really annoying.
    main reason I use would choose notion for.

    Syncing obsidian is really expensive or a pain in the ass. Notion brings free syncing for basic usage but lacks offline mode. Hard call. Depends on usecase. Both have their strenghts, love the tagging and links of obsidian. Backlinks are great. Databases of Notion are extremely useful if you have information that fits categorys very well. Databases in Obsidian are a bit clunky.

    Can you do a break down for people who are studying engineering and computer science?

    • @dabi_
      @dabi_  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I did?? :O sorry if I didn’t make it too clear.
      I think Obsidian’s maybe a bit better for that specific purpose since the atomic concepts will come up again and again and be linked to each other, but tbh Notion’s not that bad of a choice.
      I guess the other thing is that with Obsidian, you could store the Python notebooks in the same folders as your Obsidian vault, and link to them like that which may be clean. Dunno if there’s a way to open them natively in Obsidian though.
      Lastly, it’d be way easier to e.g. do AI stuff and embed your obsidian files later in semantic search, than I imagine it would be for Notion. So if I was doing hardcore CompSci stuff I’d future proof my notes by doing that.
      That said…I’m a medical doctor rather than an engineer, so there may be other opinions!

      I’ll go ahead and make a video on this :) but the very very short version is, I keep unstructured thoughts, questions, and reflections in Obsidian. Structured projects stay in Notion.

      Oh! So actually, Obsidian for iOS is pretty good now. :) don’t have an Android but would be fine with that. No idea about iPad. But yeah it should be totally fine. “Free” depends on how you sync them, but iCloud would allow you to do it for free.
