    Bit of advice I’ve been a mechanic for 27 years if it stops after you have water increases into the engine what ever you do don’t try and start it you will bend your con rods if they aren’t bent already

      Bent con rods, head gaskets popped, cylinder head damage. All possible from water ingress, liquid does NOT compress the same as air, something has got to give. @@glowiever I don't know what is there. The police carry signs and cones in the traffic cars. The normal temporary sign is white letters on a red field measuring about 1m (3 ft).
      But areas that often become impassable can have permanent signs that can be switched on. Some are just signs so could be overlooked, some put a gate across a road.
      The road obviously can't be completely closed because the nearby properties need access. So I suspect the previous junction has a sign saying 'road closed ahead, flood, access only'.

    • @awindup
      @awindup 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When the police car was in the middle of the road I can 100% confirm that they "flipped the road closed signs" (ALL 4 OF THEM) look above the police car in video they are hardly subtle... to say "FLOOD +road closed ahead" instead of "ford" and that they had put out traffic cones across the carriageway a quarter of a mile each side of the Ford blocking the road off to make it safe for the recovery.
      There were at least two cars that went through the Ford, trying to sneak past cops, and maybe a couple more who came up to the Edge and were told to turn around.
      At least one car had to drive round the recovery truck putting emergency workers and police at risk... yep they are that stupid and deserve a fine.

    Pro Tip: Know the wading depth of your vehicle and look at how deep the water is. If it's deeper than your vehicle's wading depth, you're probably going to have a bad time going through a ford.

    • @MickeyFKNMouse
      @MickeyFKNMouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@MickeyFKNMouse True. But if you've watched this stuff for any time, you'll have seen some idiots drive into water so deep their vehicles actually started to float. There was one clown in a Golf expecting to drive through nearly 3ft of water.
      One thing I HAVE noticed, is that modern vehicles are way more prone to conking-out after driving even carefully through a ford than older vehicles. I've been in a vehicle driving through that ford, and had the water come up the windscreen on entry, and through the doors. And apart from taking an age to dry out, the car didn't miss a beat driving through the ford. (1990 petrol Ford Escort).

      @@MrSonicAdvance a 1990 Ford escort, was about the last year of older designed cars, the air filter and intake was on top of the engine, depending on the model the air intake was not ducted to the front grill, so you could go much deeper with out hydro locking the engine. If you look at the 4*4 that race through that Ford, they have snorkels, All that is doing is raising the air intake out of the way of any water.

      My dad had an at fault accident last year where he clipped another vehicle side on (Couldn't see it due to the low sun blinding him). Despite minimal paint scratching and a bit of trim lost, the car decided to deploy the pedestrian protection system which blows the bonnet hinges and lifts the bonnet 6 inches up to create a crumple zone.
      Surprised watching these that the same hasn't happend as some of the damage shown in these videos is far greater than what my dads car got.

    The idiocy of some drivers is amazing. The area I live in used to have floods in low spots in the main route in/out of town, we used to cope with this stuff every winter, often with longer flooded stretches. One thing I learned driving vehicles with drum brakes all round was the importance of drying brakes afterwards, even with disc brakes it's of no less importance to check the brakes after fording the stream, so many don't seem to do that as they drive away 😳

    • @toleth88
      @toleth88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's concidered a major fault on a driving test not to check your brakes after.

    • @TheLiamis
      @TheLiamis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same in my area. Lots of 8inch to 12 inch deep floods. Enough that you need to dry off the brakes.

    • @joelmartin2549
      @joelmartin2549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drying your brakes is not going to help, your brakes warp when they are hot and suddenly get cooled (water). No amount of drying your brakes is going to undo the damage also, the brakes will dry themselves as soon as they get warm again. PS not drying your brakes is not part of the driving test.

      @toleth88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@joelmartin2549 Not checking they work is though....i said nothing about drying?

      @warweezil2802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@joelmartin2549 Who said anything about damage? If I pressure wash my car and jet the calipers and then drive it afterwards the efficiency of the braking is greatly reduced for the first couple of applications, this isn't about damage, its about expelling the water lying between the disc and pads. The DSA and other motoring organisations all give the same advice. Although the discs are rotating, it often doesn't clear the water until the brakes are applied. If you need to stop suddenly after driving through deep water you may well find your stopping distance greatly increased.

      Most are diesel, the engines are high, and they have a snorkel air intake fitted which is set at roof height. So, in theory ( but only in theory) the engine should be OK, BUT they could still aquaplane and lose control going at those speeds I agree. That is not the way the Land Rover handbook tells you how to go through deep water.

    Modern cars are full of electric management systems. Even if they're 'lucky' enough to get through there's still the real risk of water in the various electrical connectors which over time will gradually corrode and then begin to throw up more and more fault codes over the next few years.
