Can you do a video sometime on your process for taping and masking off a room for when you paint?

  • @FinishCarpentryTV

I found that they make a circle cutting jig that attaches to your jig saw for easy circle cutting. Basically the jig saw blade would be where the pencil is on my little tracing jig that you see in this video. Would have been much easier than tracing the line free handed like I did. But I will be getting that jig if I ever need to cut circles again!

I had to make circular trim for some porthole windows; I just made a circle cutting jig from 1/4" plywood and took the base off of my DeWalt trim router and attached the plywood to the router then just made a couple of passes and Voila' , done perfectly.

A router jig works wonders on cutting circles. But very nicely done with a jigsaw 🤙🤙

You make great content and doing awesome work. I also love that you are always trying to learn. You are always asking how things look and how you can improve. That being said I am not going to talk about the circles being cut. Everyone has already talked about using the router. My thing is that you are leveling the circles. Level is great if you have a perfect set up. If the ceiling is not level you are asking for trouble. Your eye will pick up the difference from level and not level. Same thing with pluming your trim. If your walls are out then your plum board will look out of plumb. Also get an exhaust fan when spraying inside.

I just saw your video about baseboard ideas and loved them and loved your attention to detail with those pocket holes. Then I wanted to see what other great ideas you have that I can steal and started this vid because I want those circle walls. Then u screwed in to make circle measurements perfect and I really fell in love with you! That attention to detail and someone who is as big as a perfectionist as I am is hard to find. And so many little things drive me crazy in my house that I’m sure you would have done perfectly. That being said, where are you located? Could you come do a bathroom and kitchen remodel in Denver for me??

I see many folks are trying to help you grow in skills. That great to have a community as such. Using a circular router jig is the way to go, yes you can make it.
Also, using 20 min Hot Mud (compound) works great as a wood to drywall adhesive. Clean up with damp sponge which leaves a small inside quarter round edge. Ready for primer n paint.
    Best regards. 🙂

Thanks so much for all of your knowledge! - Great ideas and skills!! Do you sand or seal the cut edges of the MDF. If you don't - I was under the impression the cut edges would not be nearly as smooth as the flat edges.

I recently retired after 30 odd years.
I was mostly a remodeler. I excelled at matching old to new and repairing seemingly unrepairable structures.
I always felt a had a good eye and hand towards good finish work also. However next to you I feel I failed by comparison. While my work ( going by what other Carpenters and , most importantly, my customers said ) was good you just have that extra something.
What I like to call The Norm Abrams Quality. Besides have master finish skills you have an eye for design which is something unfortunately I did not

@@athhud as I said my Makita jig saw, as most, has 10 different settings. Put setting to the 1 u can handle and unless u have the shakes u will be surprised how accurate the cut.
There is no way anyone could cut that circle on what I call race car mode. But if I put the jig saw on a slower setting U can write your name in script.

This might be a stupid question; but, wondering if at the joint of 1x2 & circle’s outer edge, you did a concave “joint” or left it as a “straight” edge? Would it make much of a difference if did concave etc....? What cartridges are you using w/ respirator for the stuff you spray?
Could you put that pop up tent you used in this vid, on your Amazon Marketplace Landing Page for us please......been trying to find a good durable & affordable one for a while now.
Thanks for the vid, as always, it’s interesting, fun, & we learned something new. Wall looks great, & been loving the recent accent walls you’ve been installing lately 👍🏻....also know doing circles like this on a wall.....not easy to get right; can be tricky & cause ppl to go crazy when spend to much time measuring etc....🤪😁
