Question, I’m painting over a dark color and trim is already on the walls. Can I use the roller easily or do I have to use a brush? Thank you. First time painter nervous!!!! Kelley
Out of the hundreds of YT videos on how to DIY something fun and creative, he is the only person I watch and have subscribed to. ALWAYS outstanding work with an in-depth "how to" attitude. The Bob Ross of DIY at its finest
@@shrugger1 I redid all 4 bathrooms and kitchen back splash off your one video with the white subway tiles. The kitchen was tricky and first on my list to do. Once I nailed down your method of doing it, the first bathroom was a breeze. # 2,3 and 4 went even quicker and my wife is super pleased and happy.
Look at Stud Pack too. They are an American father & son contractor/videographer. They show all the mistakes too, and how to fix them before moving on. Both channels have given much so much more understanding of how to build, design, and improve my home. ❤️
Since showing my wife your channel, my honey do list is a mile long. Since all your videos are thorough and laid out well, it's helped wonders but she is also now able to give way more constructive criticism!
I've decided this is beyond my skill level--but I do appreciate watching a DIY video that actually offers good, clear instructions--which you've done here----thank you!
I like that...."start from the mid point always because if measurements are off it will look stupid! "Got your message Jeff! Also, I had no idea there was a stop on the extensions of the miter saw stand! Cool! More hacks you keep showing us that one just wouldn't know about if someone like you didn't take the time and care to let us know. Great project as well. Cheers Meg
I also want to let you know we had a room we were attempting to install crown molding in. I was having a hard time getting it to meet up evenly on the ninetys because the ceiling and wall were wavy. It was just impossible so I ordered the foam crown molding you recommended on a previous video. The foam crown is amazing! It's gives enough to follow any imperfections were the ceiling meets the wall . It came out almost perfect! Once I painted it I dare anybody to tell a difference between foam and actual wood crown molding! Thanks!
Your the best man. I'm about to close on my new house and my wife has a list of things ten miles long for me to do. Things like this as well as more advanced things like finishing the basement. I have no Idea what I'm doing but your videos make me feel like I can do anything. So again thank you. Wish me luck.
Truly so glad I found this channel with Jeff. I really enjoy everything he does and he appears to be so down to earth and gives it to you straight showing step by step the info you need to complete your projects. Thank you so much Jeff for all of your hard work and your videos.. I mean that. You have helped me so much with my home renovations.
Thanks so much for all your videos! I lost my dad last year and it’s great seeing you do a personal touch in your daughters new house! I wish we had my dad with us to help us with these personal touches in our soon to be new home!
If you don’t have a saw stop like this, you can screw a length of scrap board to the saws fence to extend the fence along and then nail a block where your desired stop block needs to be. When doing a range of different lengths, cut the longest lengths first and then you don’t need to knock the old stop blocks off as the new ones will move along the fence closer to the saw blade.
Hey Jeff. Recently put 2mm plywood over a texted wall to create a board and batten accent look. After it was painted it is still rough to the touch and visibly rough in the right light. We think we should start again with the finish work by sanding. It was primed with two coats and painted with two matte coats. Your thoughts? Start over on the finishing?
Jeff, thank you so much for mentioning that MDF needs to be acclimated. My husband was considering MDF for casing the windows, he was hesitant because it may shrink. Now we know how to do it properly. 😊 I just turned on this video out of curiosity and learned a very useful piece of information. Perfect! You saved us!
Watched a video of your for legitimate advise for a small project, now I am addicted and just watch for fun you are that entertaining and engaging I watch for entertainment now, thank you!
I've seen videos of this on Pinterest and I always had a million questions! Thank you! I don't wanna ruin my house by doing crappy diys, this actually explains things well!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Did I say thank you 😂? My daughter wanted to do exactly this on one wall. I looked for a video to make sure I'd be doing it right. The 1x6 "template" was a dream come true. She questioned using it but I explained to her how it's better than leveling them one by one, plus they're all at the exact same height. Oddly enough, I bought a DeWalt laser level and we tended to use a regular level more than the laser level. We wondered is the 1x6 was true n width all the way down the board and maybe that's why it was off. Love the channel. Thanks again.
I am still a bit unclear about how to do the math. You kinda went through it quickly, but that is what rewind is for. The tips are so helpful, do the math first, preset the saw, and use a board as a template is great. Thanks Jeff!
I want to do board & batten in my living room, so this was very empowering! Math's not my thing, so I will re-watch to see how you figured out the number of boxes. Thanks for sharing this. I bet your daughter loves it.
Much love from the UK Jeff. Love this project. Perfect timing was looking to do this myself. Your Chanel is wonderful no nonsense, fear free and easy to understand. By the time I’ve finished my bedroom will look a million dollars. I owe you a beer Jeff thank you!
So much to learn . I enjoy watching you plan and execute (stay on task ) . A lot of your twiners, and your cuts in the way you do things by yourself are really helpful to me because I generally do it by myself loving it.
I just recently bought my very first laser after 20 years of being in remodel work, I finally bought myself one and I freaking love it. I use it on everything lol.
Do you suggest putting up a back board to get a flat wall opposed to sanding it ,just to get rid of he orange peel texture. Thank you ,loved the video, only one I've that shows A-Z!!
I can see the lines in the paint Bc I assume it’s metallic and that’s what happened to me as well. Is there a trick to preventing that? It drives me crazy and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
That looks incredible...Imma sucker for elaborate millwork and completely against scandi decor 🤣 I'd do all the walls with same panels and same color including crown molding and baseboard. That's what I've been planning since Farrow and Ball came out with the color Preference Red.
Great videos! I’m learning so much in anticipation of buying my first home. When are you supposed to caulk detail work? Everyone always caulks everything and I guess I don’t understand the purpose behind caulking something’s and not others. I am going to add board and batton to my dining room, and want to know if it is important to caulk everything. Thanks!
Thank you so much to make it so easy. 1 question. What if you do all paint work after putting the wood sticks? Does it not avoid all the patting, filling etc?
Looks Fantastic! So simple too. Is there a reason why you wouldn’t just paint all the coats on the wall prior to attaching the wood on the wall? Am I missing that part of the video?
Superb video, gives me the confidence to tackle something like this anywhere in the home. Two quick ones - 1) what material is typically best for this accenting? Pine, MDF, doesn't matter? and 2) after you sand the painted wall do you need to clean up the dust on the wall at all with a vacuum or TSP?
I have a question about nailing. Should we nail only to studs or can we also nail to the drywall directly? Will nailing between the studs, i.e directly to the drywall cause any issue if it might touch the pipes or any wires unknowingly?
Great vid as always! I have Questions! If you have time… 1- I couldn’t tell if wall was textured - mine has typical bldr orange peel (I think that’s what it’s called) and I have heard it’s best to install a 1/8” hardboard (backer board?) panel first to cover it, so it looks smooth. Do u agree, or just paint it well? 2- curious if it would it look better w pine boards rather than mdf? 3- is it better to use the spackle on trim or wood filler? I see u used spackle for both the wall and trim, checking on that. I am starting in a couple weeks so thanks for your help w my last remaining doubts about best way to do it! Love your channel. Ashlynn

Can you paint your 2 coats before you put everything together then just touch up the holes afterwards ?
Thanks!
“You can fill a dent, you can’t patch a bump.” So many precious nuggets, big and small.

Do you recommend using caulk on the edge of the trim to create a better look?
using the template makes huge sense. I did the same job last year and I wish I used the template, it would have made the job far less complex
