"New" names in the future? Yggdrasil is the Tree of life/ the World Tree from Norse mythology. It grew in Asgard (Heaven), but it's roots extended through Midgard (Earth), all the way down through Niflheim (Hell). Sorry, word's not new; it predates Christianity.
Some problems with Robyns description of the show. Shaltear was not reprogrammed, she was under an incomplete mind control. As the mind control was taking hold Shaltear attacked the user stopping the spell. This left her in a constant state of aggression but with no orders so she only attacked what came near her. Also Momonga does have emotional attachments as he displays it when he kills Clementine and when he learns about what happened to Shaltear. Because of his undead stated his emotions are suppressed and he doesn't act on them. But for brief moments he feels even sexual attraction towards Albedo. When he was enraged by what happened to Shaltear his suppression did nothing to stop his rage because it was so great.
Yeah, there are a few details a bit off. The light novel does a better job explaining these, hopefully people google it or stop by the reddit page when they have questions.
You can also add to that, that they were not transported to the game world Yggdrasil. Not sure if it wasn't on the dub, but in the raw, Ainz figured out that they weren't in Yggdrasil at all, but in a new world. I think it was during episode 2, when Sebas confirmed that they were no longer in a swamp land, but an open plain. Then his wariness of another player is due to magic that existed in Yggdrasil that were present in this new world(that's not Yggdrasil).
ncdxero88 Ainz states that he is not in Yggdrasil in the first episode and Sebes confirms it in the second. It get' s repeated afterwords on how this is a different world entirely and the world magic is being shown by using the game as a comparison. Overlord is an Another World anime that starts off in the game. I think alot of the reason I find reviewers to get this wrong or parts wrong is Overlord is very text heavy and abit slowed pace. It requires you pay attention to everything that is being said which for people who review anime probably just don't have the time to get really invested in it. It made a good impression, like the premise, I'll state it on a review. Then to the next anime.
Couple things bugging me with your description. 1. Momonga wasn't transported to Yggdrasil, it was somewhere completely different. Sebas said that the surrounding area was completely different. Most mechanics were different as well. Ex. Sealing crystals were rarer, potions are blue instead of red, magic above sixth tier was unheard of, etc. Only spells and some monsters were the same. 2. He does show compassion for others. The tiara that controlled the legion of dead on the potion master's son was valuable and unique, but he destroys it to save his life. He also cruelly killed Clementine because she tortured the female mage. 3. Shalltear wasn't re-programmed. She was partially brainwashed. It was stated that the black(Maybe) scripture were only half-way done before Shalltear fatally wounded the caster and they couldn't finish her brainwashing. She only had basic react to attack actions.
Julian Skilton what bugged me is heavily implying Yggdrasil was a new word. Seriously? The world tree which predates the English language (and possibly even the modern form of the alphabet it uses)? It boggles my mind that someone who makes money off of entertainment media has never even heard Yggdrasil's name before.
@@23GreyFox I find the show uninteresting. I already know that he is going to win every fight. The only way they could save it, in my opinion, is to give him a flaw like his lack of actually tactical intelligence, but his guardians already make up for that. No one can match him, no one can trick him, no one can do anything against him besides die or submit. If you like that that's fine , but I find powerfantasys like this show to be extremely boring.
because thats not the point, the point of the show it to show how ainz character handle every situation without a brute force alone, but with politics and strategy, doing that because he is wary of other being stronger than him, if you think like that, then you completely miss the point of the show and also i want to point out, the anime didnt do it justice thus honestly speaking i can understand why you thinking like that, LN on the other is another different beast much more detail in term of everything
LupineShadowOmega You Do Know the Viking’s lived in Denmark, Sweden and Iceland as well? Norway isn’t the only place were north mythology can be found. It’s more common there, yes, but it’s not the only place.
This is why you always choose a race that has functioning organs. That way when you inevitably get trapped in a game with your harem (don't judge me), who's prepared now....
In one of the earlier episodes, Momonga says that his libido is extremely muted because of his race stats. So for RP purposes, the game world made him a eunuch.
Why does everyone get this wrong? The world Momonga is transported to is NOT the game world. Some things from the game are in it like items and the magic they use but they were all brought there by other players that came before Momonga.
i'll be your knight Never discussed or brought up, the stuff just happened. It appearently is something that happens once or twice in few 100 years that a player(s) get transported in the "new world" according to Evileye. Fun fact: the so called "humans" in the new world aren't really 100% human and the author mentioned in a interview that actual "homo sapiens (like us)" got extinct a long time ago, they are also inferior to the current "human" race in the new world. This makes me believe that the first "players" in the new world probably mated with the homo sapiens and darwinism did the rest. It also explains why the current "humans" have "lv's" and "magic" is related to the yggdrasil system even if the spells didn't exist in the game. Aside from "wild magic" ofcourse (which seems like a original magic system from the new world that very few individuals can still use).
I think one of the great draws of Momonga is that he's so very desperate most of the time. He's just a Japanese office worker of fairly average intelligence thrust into a situation he doesn't understand. He's so afraid of all the things that could go wrong and not being able to lead the assorted Guardians properly. I guess a fairly big part of that is the context that comes from the extra details in the novels and assorted other material, which I would really encourage everyone to read because without it a lot of actions and motivations of the various characters are either unclear or easy to miss. Also you get to see so-bin's original designs, which are not only gorgeous but different in a number of things than the designs used in the manga/anime. In particular the death knight and Shalltear's true form had designs that I think were much better than what we see in the manga/anime.
Unca Bob I haven't read the novels or mangas so far but he seems of a high intelligence (he memorized a bunch of CPU stats just for the hell of it). He is however very dysfunctional.
He's described as being of average intelligence but very dedicated. In your example Tako he memorized all the major members of the guild and it's functions because he was regularly, as the leader and only member able to maintain regular play late into the game, the person organizing the defense and matching up their "bosses" against raids. They were, after all, a raidable dungeon. He also memorized every single spell effect and casting appearance in the game because he wanted to make sure he was prepared for any and all eventualities in battle. That being said, he's highly strategic and batmanesque in that way as he can win any fight if he's prepared and knows his enemy, despite actually being statistically weaker combat wise compared to most other players, and in fact one of the weaker, in straight combat, of the guild. But as far as general intelligence goes he's not actually that smart, frequently Albedo or Demiurge make suggestions for plans that he hadn't even considered and he just pretends to go along. Hell he doesn't even realize they're taking over the world for a ridiculously long time, despite regular referencing to it by Albedo or Demiurge in front of him. So no, he's not actually that smart, probably above average, but especially compared to the NPC's of Nazarick, who are as smart as their programming says (which is, btw, unparalleled), he's not.
not just desperate, he's terrified the NPC's will turn on him if they realise he's a "worthless human", right in ep1 he is concerned over how loyal they will remain and how they will react to his rule, he can barley win against Shaltear with prep time, if the Guardians all turned on him he would not just be destroyed but probably tortured forever, I would be realy worried in his place.
Robyn didnt know what Yggdrasil was? I'm surprised. Not saying she's dumb for not knowing, just surprised that someone who loves anime/comics/fantasy genre stuff wouldnt have come across it before. /love chibirobyn
Good thing i didn't show my wife this review. It would be another reason for her to dislike Anime America. The first reason was the unrelenting mocking of Vampire Knight. Thinking Yddrasil is a 'new word' would drive her up the wall
I’m not really a fan of the games this tree has appeared in but I am a huge nerd when it comes to Old Norse Mythology (which by the way is the reason why I can’t watch any Thor movie, they just get everything so wrong)
Actually, the game didn't "transform into its own world", Momonga and all Nazarick were transported to the new world and everything in Nazarick was therafter transformed into reality. The reason why the new world seems so much like Yggdrasil is because of how other Yggdrasil players which were transported hundreds of years before Momonga influenced the world into becoming more like Yggdrasil.
You made some mistakes here.. Momonga and co. arent transported into the game world but into a different world alltogether where players from Yggdrasil are basically godlike invaders who have shaped the history of said world with their actions since hundrets of years (time aparantly flows differently) with the inhabitants barely reaching level 30 while momonga and co. are lvl 100. Albedo aka. the leader of the nazarik guardians isnt the most powerfull of the guardians, that would be shalltear. While momonga usually simply uses people around him who are not npcs made by him or his comrades he clearly shows sympathy towards some. In his fight with clementine he even states that hes a big hypocrit because he took it somewhat personal that she murdered those adventurers he had partied with just days before. The incident with shalltear also had nothing to do with anyone reprogramming or kidnapping her that was merely momongas wild guess because hes somewhat of a paranoid worry ward control freak. The adventurer party that shalltear assaulted had a so called "world class item" (from an earlier generation of yggdrasil players that where brought to that world) that has a strong mind control effect. The effect was fired off but at the same time shalltear killed the user of said item, so her personality was simply reset to that of a passive npc that only reacts to being attacked (due to the person that would have been able to control her being dead, so she never received any comands). Otherwise i can only echo your recomendation, both the light novel and the anime series are worth the look
I have to give you guys major props for syncing up It's Terror Time Again to this anime. I'm usually not that big a fan of that part of the video, but I'll admit, I really like this one.
You should check out Log Horizon if you're into "other world" shows. It shares some similarities with Overlord and it was my favourite isekai show until Overlord got an anime adaptation.
SAO didn't suck, it just failed as a story. It gave up on the entire premise it started on halfway through and then devolved into the typical harem anime upon which it spawned the new genre of "Kirito anime".
You forgot to mention that the new world is "Not" Yggdrasil's world but a completely new world, since MC keeps referring to the differences in the 2 worlds, such as in Yggdrasil magic can go to class 9 or so, while in this new world magic higher then class 5 is ether ultra rare or not even known by anyone.
first mention of different world then Yggdrasil is in Ep 2 around the 5:30 timestamp when the buttler is giving his report. Another was in Ep 4 when he fight the guys from the church, and tier 7 was sup the highest tier of magic in this world, yet in Yggdrasil tier 9 is fairly common for max lvl players, also the last few episodes with the vampire girl, she was in a unfinished mind control (she killed the caster just as she finished the spell but didn't get to give any commands) and not a reprogram as this world is a "real" world and not a computer world.
Ravkrat Asgard, realm of the Aesir (war gods) Vanaheim, realm of the Vanir (nature gods) Alfheim, realm of the elves Midgard, the human realm Jotunheim, realm of the giants Nidavellir, realm of the dwarves Niflheim, realm of ice Muspellheim, realm of fire Helheim, realm of the dishonored dead
Well, yeah. SAO had a good soundtrack, and nice action scenes, but sadly had so much of its potential wasted that Log Horizon and Overlord leave it in the dust despite having fewer episodes ATM. I mean, 100 floors to work through, and the first main storyline is over before at least the 30'th episode? So much wasted potential.... And now that Overlord has received another season, as has Attack On Titan, I'm eagerly eyeing Log Horizon and King's Avatar and hoping they get another one, too.
The reason Shalltear was "brainwashed" was because the "old lady" she was trying to kill first was wearing a world item dress that gives complete mind control to a single monster regardless of immunities. That's how such a powerful UNDEAD character got controlled.
I know that. I was just saying thats why robin most likely called him a ''lich elder'' cause Ainz does not bother to correct Clementine when she call him an elder lich
I just wonder, how hard it was to actually google it, before recording and throwing this video out... Kinda feels bad to hear this stuff coming out of someone reviewing on regular basis. Reeks of unprofessionalism and lack of effort put in it.
Honestly I just don’t get all the hate because it’s not like any part of the anime shows that the name was even remotely important. Sure you can argue some parts being important like the fact that Momonga’s guild keep is filled with several levels and that can be a reference to The World tree but honestly I’m sure all these references are so slight and saline it just makes the point of the name Yggdrasil that much less important other than as a cool name
It's one of those things that are so obvious and common that it's really hard to believe that someone _doesn't_ know what that is. Yggdrasil and the norse idea of a world tree is practically everywhere in fiction. If you've read more than a handful of books, or consumed more than a dozen different stories that involve fictional elements, then you're practically guaranteed to have come across these ideas and terms before It's not that "there's a person who doesn't recognize the term _yggdrasil_", it's that "there's a person who spends a lot of time being exposed to stories and mythology, who doesn't recognize one of the most common elements of mythology on the planet". It's incongruous to a ridiculous level, hence the bit of ridicule and disbelief directed at it.
celtic mythology is still better than norse though giving less options for the player to become stronger is has stronger and sexier Goddesses and darker themes to go with the sexier Goddesses the Gods like in most mythologies are lazy or very hard working that they have very little time for interaction with humans
I’m so glad you mention Australian distribution. It makes me feel like a member of this Western anime fan family despite living far away from the US. It can be hard to watch anime legally in Australia because some anime gets licenced by the US but not Australia (ahem, Sasameki Koto), so hearing an anime TH-camr who isn’t Australian mention Animelab makes me so happy.
I guess I never played enough MMO's since I really don't know the word Yggdrasil. Plus Norse legends was not a prioritized topic in central Florida public schools and I don't remember learning it in World History. At least I know now thanks to o guys. Also, aw there really comments spoiling the books/manga in regards to WHY he ended up in this world? Not cool guys. If it wasn't mentioned in season one, then why should I spoil it? #goodolecommentsection
Anime America hey I saw the jar and I have to say, .hack is better and I can't wait for the new game TOMORROW!!! Edit: also thanks for the context for this anime, much appreciated.
Totally agree. Such a great show. I wouldn't say Momonga helps people entirely for his own gain, though that is a large motivating factor for him. He originally starts because he had one guild-mate who was obsessed with justice and Momonga says he wants to live by his friend's example. I guess he figures that even though he is losing his humanity, that doesn't mean he needs to be an absolute monster. He certainly makes the most of his good deeds and puts them to his advantage, but that's also so people won't grow suspicious of him. The towns people in episode 3 for example didn't trust him when he said he helped out of "moral obligation" and only calmed down when he said he expected some kind of compensation for his work. I also don't think his avenging that small party of adventurers that was murdered was entirely for selfish reasons either. I mean he tortured their murderer to death as retribution for her crimes. I doubt he'd go that far if he didn't care at least a little bit.
But he literally says while thinking about his justice obsessed friend "I will try to live by your example." That's when he goes to save the village in episode 3. He acted because he knew it was the right thing to do and because it was what his friend would have done.
Joel Gawne He doesn’t like it. He’s already worship by many. He wants to conquer the world so the Guild name could spread the world. Also make his friends ideas a reality
What are you talking about? Grim clearly shows his love for games in his popular quote "Go play on the highway", The highway in this case referring to the deep-dive system launcher known as the HIGH-way launcher. Did you even read the lore-scripts found in the Billy and Mandy flash game?
Momonga/Ains is not a lich, he is an Overlord, that's his class Also, rewriting Albedo's setting is like a regular day in a programmer's life, you change a single line and now the program behaves in a totally unexpected and annoying way
He is an Elder Lich though, he's got multiple classes, and Elder Lich is one of them. He's also a Skeleton Mage, Necromancer and Ruler of Death. Elder Lich, Skeleton Mage, and Overlord are race classes, while Necromancer and Ruler of Death are job classes.
Well they say it in the marvel movies animations and in the show it self in the first episode and many times has well. So you should get a nice prounciation.
3 Things I loved about this video: 1. The Sword Art Online disses *throws penny in the jar* 2. The fact that you point out momonga's strategic and pragmatic moves and characterization as the centerpiece before the *also amazing* animations and fight choreography/brutality 3. You have a great voice! it is really soothing to hear while I visit the land of anime nostalgia. Great review!
How many must I comment this about overlord Momonga or ainz was not transported into Yggdrasil but rather his avatar and all his npcs were transported to a fantasy world which was influenced by players who were transported into that worlds history every couple of centuries Lastly it was also not only stated in the LN but also in the anime that Albedo was not the strongest npc but rather Shalltear for that vampire is the most balanced and optimized npc for combat (remember when Ainz questioned albedo that could she defeat Shalltear and was only replied by albedo's silence )
Anime America yes and no it is true that the anime did not said it outright but it was hinted several times that the world ainz were transported were not Yggdrasil like when ainz was fighting those sunlit scripture and when he was fighting clementine and he said that her weapon that there were no weapons like those in Yggdrasil Finally when albedo and ainz was in the treasury when ainz asked if albed that can she defeat shalltear albedo could not answer meaning that she can't Anyway thanks for replying love the videos hope you make more It might come off like. I am obsessed about overlord but one would be if there was a situation were you were stuck in a place with no net for three weeks with only overlord blu ray to keep you entertained
Holow - Of the two of them, Shaltear has more offensive capability. Albedo is built as a tank with defensive and support skills. Shaltear is also, by virtue of being a divine magic caster and having a vampiric weapon (nullifying any benefits of Ainz's summons), able to be a perfect counter to Ainz. It's just that Ainz was the head of the most notorious PVP-focused guild in Yggdrasil, and he knew everything about Shaltear. He's got the experience and the knowledge. He won before the fight started.
Thalanox i know it , those that are stronger than Shalltear are Rubedo-Spinel Albedo's litte sister and Aureole Omega the younger sister of the pléiades ,the seventh Pleiade and the guardian of eighth floor. yeah i know little sisters are too OP
This show was great, i agree with you about the characters being interested, Albedo was my favorite of his staff. Thank you for reviewing this. I love your guys' content
I LOVE YOUR GIFs or whatever the editing past 11:00 are called :3 thank you for making me smile!!!!! May our most stupendous and glorious Ainz Ooal Gown look upon this vid with fervency!!!
It does deserve the dissing but I would like to have a jar to drop a coin in. That way if I do it the other people in the room have to shut up and let me diss that stupid anime. Love Overlord much better
"Apparently they make a lot of new names in the future." The name Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology, is several times older than this country. Just saying.
Yggdrasil (Ig-Drah-Sil) Was the tree that held the nine worlds in Norse mythology with Ratatoskr scurrying among the branches, an unnamed eagle with Veðrfölnir sitting between it's eyes, and the serpent Níðhöggr living at the bottom. (There are 3 more beings living among the tree but this comment would be to long-winded) I hope this helps!
OMG Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and the witches ghost, Nightmare before Christmas, AND Hocus Pocus during the end scenes?!?! YEEESSSS!!! Love you guys so much!!!❤️❤️
I mean, I really like that you understand the whole thing about Ainz switching up Albedo's settings for what at the time was just a harmless joke that ended up becoming real. Nowadays people would've jumped down the animators throats about this trope. So thank you for being understanding.
Yeah, about Albedo being the strongest robyn... She is not the strongest. Most NPC in the 8th floor are seen as stronger in general where-as rubedo is considered by momonga himself ( the skeleton dude that is the boss of albedo ) as strong enough to single-handedly defeat the entirety of nazarick. He even said in the LN that if Rubedo would go rogue, only some of the 8th floor would be able to stand a chance against her when they got World Class Items equipped. Not the floor guardians with world class items, not momonga himself with those items, no only the 8th floor denizens with those items stand a chance. Each World class item is considered as strong as an entire world. So yeah, if not even momongo, who is lvl 100 btw and strong enough to beat each and every floor guardian without a world class item believes not even himself with world class items can beat her, Rubedo is the strongest of them all. Shalltear is considered the strongest floor guardian after all, so stronger then albedo as well.
You are right about Rubedo (Albedo's younger sister) being the most powerful entity in all of Nazarick, however about Shalltear, it's not so clear. Momonga mentioned Albedo is the strongest Floor Guardian, however in the LN they state that her strength is mostly defensive, while Sebas is the strongest melee fighter. At some point he then mentions that Albedo, Sebas and Shalltear are the three most powerful melee fighters in Nazarick.
In the Anime, Momonga did say Shalltear was the strongest floor guardian, however I made a mistake in my previous understanding of the most powerful fighters in Nazarick from the LN, the actual quote is: "In the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick, there were four NPCs who were exponents of melee combat. Cocytus had the strongest attack power when using a weapon, Albedo had an impregnable defense when in her heavy armor, while Sebas in his true form was stronger than either of them in melee combat. And then was one more, who was superior to all of them." so I'd like to assume Shalltear is ranked 5th strongest in Nazarick since I read in a later volume that Demiurges, Mare and Aura were among the weakest guardians.
Eric Langlois looked at their profiles and stats. Apart from gargantua, shaltear has the highest overall stats. I am wondering though, if shaltear and albedo would fight to the death, who would win. Or is that more along the lines of perfect shield versus perfect spear?
9:00 I know Mangacontent and Novelcontent =/= animecontent, but when you Interested Spoiler: Hundreds of Years before Momonga come in the new World, other Players also come in. The 8 Greed Kings and others. Some of thes Players leave Items and Enemyclasses behind. Like the Archangels of the Scripture Organisation. Because one of the Deitys of the Scripture Organisation was a Player of Yggdrasil what also Play a Overlord Charaktertype. The Lizardman Stuff is good but I hope they turn the Ark into a Movie. I want too see Evileye in the Anime.
The best thing about Overlord is that it's a story from the point of view of the villains, as author-san has said, "about the powerful trampling on the weak". That's an interesting and refreshing view. As for Albedo, there was a gross error in the translation of her parameters (at least in the subs). In the Japanese text, the parameter Momonga changes said "Slut" as one of her defining traits. So, by changing "Slut" to "Loves Momonga", he just took all the sexiness Tabula Smaragdina had programed into her and focused it on himself. SPOILERS This is leading her to plan to kill any other Supreme Beings she can find, and perhaps even eliminate the other NPCs as well, so she can have her beloved Momonga all for herself. In the scene in her bedroom, where he hung the banner of Momonga in place of the new Ainz Ool Gown banner, she clearly shows she's dissatisfied with his change of name and interest in anyone else except herself. Having a yandere in love with you is never a good thing...
she doesnt plan to kill the supreme beings its just that she doesnt care about the guild. since no one besides Momonga stayed behind with the npcs. also when someone asked the definition of ビッチ on r/learnjapanese a native speaker said the correct translation would be as bitch more then slut. however it refers more to a sexually active woman then someone being mean.
Took a chance on your video and I was pleasantly surprised. Great review! The one thing I would have added is that Ainz's mind starts changing from human to Demon King which is an interesting idea. I also love they extra stuff you put at the end of the video! Ainz: Many know me as Lord Ainz, but a few long ago knew me by another name... Lord Cooler...
HEY ROBIN! Yggdrasil is not a word they make up in the future, Yggdrasil (or the World Tree) is a mythical tree that connects all of the Nine Realms in Norse Mythology.
while i would love to give a like to this video... i can't even finish it because of the lack of knowledge about the series. While i would have understood it if they were trying not to give spoilers, but that was not the case. Since the plot is what is been primary judged Robins lack of understanding about it just makes me face palm every other sentence. I loved Anime America and i hope you guys come back, but please do a bit more of research about the subject next time
Also Momonga couldnt try anything with Albedo and/or Shaltear even if he wanted to, given his skeletal nature meaning he's lacking something rather important
This is the Video video of yours i have ever watched and solid review for sure... but i did not expect to be laughing at the end with the "AMV Hell" Like Comedy, might just have to watch more reviews and see if both Trends are consistent.
I highly recommend reading the light novels! Sadly official ones are only up to the 4th or 5th volume, but fan translations have already finished the new 12th volume and already ready for the 13th! The translators do a very good job and are dedicated to do a good job...besides 1 intermission from the 12th....
about shalltear. (spoiler) i diddent think that she was converted into a "raidboss" the person who used the world item to "control" her, was knocked out mortally wounded. and thus unable to give any commands to her. she was thereby left with the most basic of "mind controlled - orders" Wait till someone challenges her and fight them with all her might. which was why some of the guys in the party she attacked tried to kill her while she was "standing still" only to be instantly slaughtered. the party quickly fled with no solution to handle her at all. so not really a raid boss situation as much as a spell with no vocal after command given due to knocked out caster. if the caster had not been knocked out - they would have gained shalltear as a permanent completely loyal ally. and that would have been serious bad news for momonga
Killaim the holder of the wci eventually died. Also it’s not “basic of mind control”. When the spell failed and partially took effect without any orders, what kick in was her basic floor guardian functions.
First time watching one of your reviews, and holy shit the last few minutes of AMv style had me dying laughing. Love it! Also great review (I've become mildly obsessed with Overlord ever since I saw season 1, read all the current LN, then decided to read the web novel as well, what's translated so far anyways)
I watched Overlord a while ago and instantly liked Momonga with how he carefully explores his situation. He is not overly confident, instead starts by gauging every opponent´s strength as well as the power and effects his own spells and techniques have. When it comes to his subordinates, he treats them very compassionately, as he considers them a living memory of his guild mates. Yet he is not shy of using every tool to his advantage. This makes him sometimes appear cold, but it gets him towards his goal.
Ouch. This hurt to listen to. I'm seriously wondering if this is a paid advertisement, because you got so much wrong that I have pretty strong doubts that you even watched the show. Either that or the dub is incredibly awful. Can't rule that out. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened. So, for starters, *they aren't in Yggdrasil*. I mean, wow. "I don't know where we are" was a pretty major plot point. Second, they weren't in a game world. Yea, it had some gamey mechanics, but they were real people living in a real world. Any SAO comparison is superficial at best, but mostly just erroneous. Shalltear wasn't 'reprogrammed'. She was brainwashed. She also wasn't a raid encounter. I can understand referring to the guild NPC's as NPC's, even if they really aren't NPC's anymore, because that's what they *were*. They are NPC's brought to life. But please, for the love of all that holy, don't refer to the people inhabiting the world as NPC's. That way lies madness. Lastly, the fight with Clementine showed that (at least during the events of the first season, hint hint) Momonga's "Everything I do is for Nazerick" attitude is partially a front, there was still a semi-functional human there. Yea, he talked big about how it was because she got in his way, and that he was just as ruthless as her so it would by hypocritical to reproach her for that, but he basically ended the fight by calling himself very hypocritical. He got attached, she murdered them, and he murdered the shit out of her in a pretty brutal way for it. And on an unrelated side note, Clementine was definitely my favorite character of the first season. I enjoyed hating her for every moment she was on screen.
The anime condenses everything to the max while trying to fit as much information and plotpoints into it as possible. I don't fault her for not being precise without the extensive explainations from the manga/LN. Also ACKCHUALLY: Ainz can still pull up menus in the guild and in special places he uses pop-ups (LN+ maybe manga), hinting that it still might be a game world or at least a dimension fused with it. Shalltear was under mind control of a world class item and was on standby because she got no further orders (Manga+LN). NPC is technically correct for everyone he met until now, as it stands for Non Player Character, and they are not players an any way or form. Also Ainz refers to almost everyone in Nazarick as NPC's when he doesn't call them children or floor guardians. Also he calls guild spawned undead POP NPC's even if they behave like they 'live' (LN+Manga). Probably a typo, but it's Nazarick.
RandominityFTW As for being confused about being trapped in the game, I saw a reactor who adamantly refused to be corrected on the same misunderstanding, saying it didn’t matter because it might as well be the game. When i thought about why it was important i understood that overlord actually goes from an mmo to a dungeons and dragons campaign. Side note, i found out that one of the reasons the author wrote the story was because hes a big dandd player whos friends were all too busy to play with him
Nice thought, but why would he roleplay a character that is stuck in a character in a d&d campaign? Why would there still be game menus in a d&d campaign? I mean yeah, Overlord is heavily influenced by d&d, but the d&d stuff was already in place before the world became 'real', except for the NPC's reacting flexibly and that some rules changed. Also it would have to be a complete homebrew, with mana instead of spellslots, no NAT1/20, and complete imbalanced classes(which would most likely not happen in a campaign that is made by japanese gamers) If you want to go that way, it's more realistic that his brain fried because the server shutting down had a malfunction, and he is trapped in delusions.
Ruok 90 This is just how i feel, Everyone is unbalanced because the guild payed to win, they made heavy use of the real world money shop and exploited game breaking flaws to become nigh unstoppable, The new world feels like a dandd world that has been “polluted” by mmo aspects, there was wild magic people used earlier but was replaced by the tier magic that came from the game, Also i have no idea what you are trying to say in your first question, please tell me
Wild magic was never replaced, as it still exists there, it's just rare because you need to have the draconic bloodline to use it. D&D magic is Tier magic by design i think? I meant that if you think they(he) started to run a D&D campaign, it makes no sense that his character is self aware. Almost all RPG's are based on D&D systems, so it's no wonder that you see similarities, but for me essential D&D characteristics are missing or substituted by modern(computerized) variants, that's why I don't believe in this theory.
If I was overlords universe I would like to beone of his generals that would love to be a lycanthrope Beast master. Because remember in that Universe to be one of his followers to have to be a beast like Warrior or creature you can't be pure human
I’m kind of surprised that Robyn never came across the term “Yggdrasil” in any other anime, JRPG, or even comics considering how much they all love to poach Norse mythology for settings and ideas. Heck, Xenogears has a library computer called Yggdrasil, and tons of other RPGs feature a “World Tree” somewhere.
I'm just surprised considering it's been extensively referenced in other anime and Japanese video games. (trying to remember if Valkyrie Profile referenced it, but I know the recent Kobayashi's Maid Dragon definitely did).
Soooo... TH-cam clip about Overlord: Check! Momonga being awesome: Check! Adams family reference: Check! Alrighty then, consider me subscribed! Now I just have to go through all previous content you guys made!
basic that is not the game turned reall, is another totally diferente world, not conect to the game, however, the protagonist is not the first player to go to that world, and in the past the other player kind that chance that world to look like the game, the teach magic, they creat monster and itens, so is basic some type of cultural contamination, and they are now all dead, but are remember as gods and demons
Yeah, this was the biggest thing I saw in the review that isn't right and it is such a huge part of the story or at least as you said it greatly affected most of the counties in that new world.
the novel says that before Ainz whe have the 6 gods, the 8 kings of greed and 2 or 3 legendary heroes that are players, but they are all dead, the 5 of the 6 gods die from old age, and the last was killed for the 8 kings of greed, 7 of the 8 kings of greed kill each other, and the last was killed for the dragonlords, them you have the 2 or 3 members of the legendary heroes, and they also killed each other, yes will still have legendary heroes alive, but not the ones that are players.
+Elizbeth as far as I know only one of the heroes lived long enough to fight some NPCs left from the previous guild coming to the new world and destroying each other (memebrs of it that is) in the power struggle with NPCs without their masters losing their shit and starting to massacring locals in the eternal grief. The most curios thing is when other guilds\players will come to this world. cause all of them were taken from the same time in outr wourld and thrown into that world by uknown beings or laws in seemingly random manner. Though the first ones truly saved humanity from being eradicated there.
+Elizabeth K Only 2 of the 12 heroes(there were more than 12) were actual former Yggdrasil players, both died though, human race character for both so not old age proof as Ainz and his crew is.
Love the video but some mistakes were made 1. Yggdrasil is not new Yggdrasil (Ig-Drah-Sil) is the world tree that connects the 9 realms of Norse Mythology 2. Ainz is an Overlord, not an Elder Licht 3. Ainz wasn't traped in Yggdrasil he and Nazeric was transported to another world 4. Shaltear was Brainwashed by a World Item and World Items beat EVERYTHING 5. Ainz does have emotions but they git suppressed by his undead traits
a bit of a miss in spoiler territory - not sure why not mentioned the whole biggest issue with mamonga : is his search for his friends. and the horrible thing about his NPCs, that are written by fanboys of Horror and monsters. These npcs are beyond monsters, and they run on their story and lore they were written in. causing HORRIBLE things to happen that momonga never really thinks about. like how they misunderstand a simple little thing they overheard him saying out loud to himself (but in noway a order) and they just took that for "Lets conquere the world for lord momonga" and his biggest issues is him trying to handle his npcs - constantly fearing they will not support him if he doesent act like a perfect overlord, not knowing they would obay ANY order or statement he says. even if he were to change his methods. Also i Absolutely love how the show manages to convey so much emotion from a still skull - there are so many amazing heartfelt scenes in this where he expresses his emotions (or tries too) a Lich skull made me cry because of this!. its a skull! the acting and story is amazing! the only thing keeping albedo from going full out horrific monster is "she is madly in love with momonga" she is the most detailed of all of the npcs with super detailed horror, violence, psychotic, crazed mastermind, torturer ever written. and completely "to the point of madness" loyal. but most of her energy is at getting his love with that simple little line he added. completely throwing her character out of the loop. but he has to stop her from just instantly slaying humans "just because they are humans" so all her inner demons and lore written. will run their course unless momonga changes it. its funny how Nothing in the world can challenge him, and the only thing even remotely dangerous to him is his npc minions. and his misunderstanding of how they function now that they are selfaware and alive.
As a Nordic citizen im getting tired of the massive reuse of Norse mythos especially in more cliche and even more so in thier stereotypes. *sigh* Goddammit Japan!
3:04 - ...heck your jar, she's right. *If you don't want to read a massive rant written by an Overlord loving fangirl that (barely) compares the two, but (mostly) hypes Overlord up, do not read further.* SAO had a good premise that played into the structure of a typical RPG; grow stronger in your own way until you're strong enough to reach and beat your goal. But then the whole power fantasy, romance drama came in and absolutely whitewashed it. It became your typical, run of the mill harem with an oblivious, inexplicably charismatic protagonist who is also very clearly a blatant gary-stu self insert in a power fantasy. -- Now, I'm not going to try and say that Overlord *isn't* a power fantasy to some degree. Come the hell on, it's roots spawned from D&D for gods' sake, of course it's a power fantasy. There is also hints of a babe magnet protagonist, what with the overlord's (currently three person) harem. But at least it's concept doesn't lead you to believe there will be a steady power climb. No. From *jump* it is presented to us that Momonga is a level 100 sorcerer with such gamer-typical over-prepared tendencies, and highly stacked stats that he is going to pwn anyone he faces with minimal effort; outside of flexing. He is a living power fantasy. However, it's also almost completely and utterly an act. Momonga's whole persona of Ainz or even Momon are purely manufactured. Beneath the facades, he's just a floundering otaku whose feelings are being suppressed. More often than not, he's just riding on the coattails of his subordinates and their blind faith in him; something he ACKNOWLEDGES. He also has *no* actual fighting skills, something that does get pointed out. He's just a guy flailing a pair of swords who happens to be so overpowered that it works anyway; something he also acknowledges. He's no leader either! He just orchestrates what he says or doesn't say so carefully that those around him can't refute him, or they're too scared to even realise he's just maxed out his BLUFF stat. His only real talent is being a LARPing nerd that can and will go over every aspect of every tool in his arsenal and every NPC in his employ who specialised in strategy and tactics. He LARPs well enough to deceive those around him. His encyclopedic knowledge of every aspect and inhabitant of Nazarick means he knows how to keep his guild, all of which are probably much more adept leaders than him, under his thumb. Finally, his role as Ainz Ooal Gown's tactician has given him the skills necessary to orchestrate his battles and actions just so. And in the case of Overlord, his mini harem is played for laughs more than as an actual, important part of the plot. Albedo is rewritten to love him on a lark. Shalltear adores him because he is an insanely powerful undead like herself, as well as absolute ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Aura sees him as her kind, capable leader which he is since he sees her as a child. Evileye is rescued by the cool and powerful Momon. NONE OF WHICH HE PURSUES. Sure, that's pretty typical for most harems, but his reasons aren't just plot-driven obliviousness. Anyone in Nazarick is, in his eyes, the child of his comrades. He too sees them as his children and cares for them appropriately. While he, as Satoru, finds Albedo and Shalltear *quite* attractive? His race being Undead quashes any lustful feelings he may have toward them. Evileye is an experienced adventurer whom hides her face, so he can't get a read on her at face value and assumes her interest in him is suspicion. He is also a real life NERD with no real social skills, so he has trouble realising that the less overt affections of Aura and Evileye are romantic. -- Very clearly, you will like one over the other or the same amount depending on your tastes. Very clearly, my tastes veer toward Overlord. But, I still stand by the fact that Overlord picked a premise and stuck to it whilst SAO veered a little too hard into a self-insert power fantasy that it lost any real substance for me. And so, I bring myself back to my initial statement; *FUCK* your jar, she's right.
Some minor clarifications I’d like to say. Momonga wasn’t simply trapped in the game but rather “transported” to a new world which works with almost all the same mechanics except real. For example-The NPCs were very simple and the text on them about there personality was mostly for flavor text with a lot of there behavior predetermined during creation. Now the “flavor text” is now how they act while also being given autonomy. The other people and countries were not present in the game as Momonga’s lack of knowledge demonstrates. They also are much weaker at least in comparison to the Yggdrasil players with 7th level magic being there strongest which to Momonga was barely phased with minimal damage.Even the magic itself works differently since one demonstration of trying to summon an undead caused a nearby dead body to become that undead whilst in the game it just created it from presumably nothing. There’s probably more, but I just didn’t notice yet
Paper Cat technically, she was created to have an angel as her race. But tabula smaragdina decided to mix her with a demon of dreams. So, technically, she is an angel as her base.
Ramiru Hansamu Its only in the light novel, which I strongly recommend a read if you're a fan. Gargatua is the strongest floor guardian without any world items.
MAN OF CULTURE Volume 4, the lizardmen arc, is when we're first introduced to Victim, guardian of the 8th floor. Unlike the rest of the lvl.100 floor guardians, Victim is a tiny fetus-like lvl.35 angel that unleashes status effects via suicide bombing Intruders & opponents. In his own crazy Enochian (angel-speak) words, "I was born to die!" On a related note, the same volume/ story arc also first shows us Gargantua, the massive golem that sleeps at the bottom of a lake on the 4th floor.
According to the novels, Momonga/Ainz views the NPC’s as children, more specifically the children of his friends.
It's also mentionned in the anime, only once though
@@lagos4312 Yep, it’s the line that indirectly causes Albedo to go into Bill Cosby mode...
Travis H wrong wrong wrong and wrong. Asgard is not heaven. It’s like Olympus. Niflheim isn’t hell. Heck even Hell isnt like Hell

You nailed that point on the head.
Gotta love it when you scroll down and people have already made the points you were thinking of making.
ncdxero88 Ainz states that he is not in Yggdrasil in the first episode and Sebes confirms it in the second.
The shows still shit though
Your taste too.
If you like that that's fine , but I find powerfantasys like this show to be extremely boring.
because thats not the point, the point of the show it to show how ainz character handle every situation without a brute force alone, but with politics and strategy, doing that because he is wary of other being stronger than him, if you think like that, then you completely miss the point of the show
and also i want to point out, the anime didnt do it justice thus honestly speaking i can understand why you thinking like that, LN on the other is another different beast much more detail in term of everything
Yggdrasil is not a new word Robyn, it is the name of the world tree in Norse mythology.
THANK YOU!!!
It's the Norse World Tree. MMOs love Norse mythology.
I love how that word is actually from thousands of years ago and she thought it was from the future.
Chunky the Clown Yeah it is kinda funny
LupineShadowOmega JRPGs in general love Norse Mythology.
LupineShadowOmega You Do Know the Viking’s lived in Denmark, Sweden and Iceland as well? Norway isn’t the only place were north mythology can be found. It’s more common there, yes, but it’s not the only place.
Pariston Hill Norse doesn't mean Norwegian. It has its root in an old word for North. Norse mythology means northern(ers) mythology.
This is why you always choose a race that has functioning organs. That way when you inevitably get trapped in a game with your harem (don't judge me), who's prepared now....
you make a good point
you make a very good point
though how do we know (it) doesn't work?
In one of the earlier episodes, Momonga says that his libido is extremely muted because of his race stats. So for RP purposes, the game world made him a eunuch.
yes it's muted but not gone so I say it still works at least to some degree
Also, he's pure skeleton. He doesn't have a penis. Though I suppose he could "bone" her in other ways...
The House Always Wins don't underestimate the power of magic.
1:56 Yggdrasil, the norse mythological tree of the world. first written into the eda at year 800, yeah that's future sci-fi for ya
Why does everyone get this wrong? The world Momonga is transported to is NOT the game world. Some things from the game are in it like items and the magic they use but they were all brought there by other players that came before Momonga.
i'll be your knight
Never discussed or brought up, the stuff just happened.
It's similar 2 his game world but is not the game is the new world or other world
@MasterStryfe if you don't have anything practical to say then shut the fuck up. Have a nice day. 😁
Humans are stupid.
Christopher Stewart well said , well said . The books are light years better than the anime
/love chibirobyn
i know right? she not dumb but that is a bit of norse mythology that is referenced alot

I don't think SAO sucked, but it was pretty "Meh.".
SAO didn't suck, it just failed as a story. It gave up on the entire premise it started on halfway through and then devolved into the typical harem anime upon which it spawned the new genre of "Kirito anime".
It sucked alot like alot

You forgot to mention that the new world is "Not" Yggdrasil's world but a completely new world, since MC keeps referring to the differences in the 2 worlds, such as in Yggdrasil magic can go to class 9 or so, while in this new world magic higher then class 5 is ether ultra rare or not even known by anyone.
Was that even mentioned in the anime or just the books? I never read the manga or books.
it's mentioned in the very first 2 episoled, the only part of Yggdrasil that's in this new world is the guys home base
first mention of different world then Yggdrasil is in Ep 2 around the 5:30 timestamp when the buttler is giving his report.
Anime America you can tell it by the way none of NPCs know where the hell they are.
Several times in the anime. He keeps saying "this item didn't exist in Yggdrasil" and things like that.

Niflheim, realm of ice
Muspellheim, realm of fire
Helheim, realm of the dishonored dead

true
to me is SAO so dame boring i only could watch 4 episodes then i say fuck it
Awesome Randomguy it is very popular in japan.
That doesn't make it good
And now that Overlord has received another season, as has Attack On Titan, I'm eagerly eyeing Log Horizon and King's Avatar and hoping they get another one, too.
nightmare09 how was that even debatable
The reason Shalltear was "brainwashed" was because the "old lady" she was trying to kill first was wearing a world item dress that gives complete mind control to a single monster regardless of immunities. That's how such a powerful UNDEAD character got controlled.
Momonga is not an Lich Elder. he's an overlord (it's a type of undead). please read the novel!!
Eduardo Uchoa thats how the people in the new world see him
antiheartless45 they don’t even know what they dealing with. Ainz will soon make them know
Well clementine does mistake him for an elder lich to which Ainz simply answer ''Close enough''
not close enough he is an overlord. Even the weakest overlord has to be lv 80 above.
I know that. I was just saying thats why robin most likely called him a ''lich elder'' cause Ainz does not bother to correct Clementine when she call him an elder lich
Yggdrasil, the world tree, it's mythology not something made for the anime
If you've read more than a handful of books, or consumed more than a dozen different stories that involve fictional elements, then you're practically guaranteed to have come across these ideas and terms before
It's not that "there's a person who doesn't recognize the term _yggdrasil_", it's that "there's a person who spends a lot of time being exposed to stories and mythology, who doesn't recognize one of the most common elements of mythology on the planet". It's incongruous to a ridiculous level, hence the bit of ridicule and disbelief directed at it.
celtic mythology is still better than norse though giving less options for the player to become stronger is has stronger and sexier Goddesses and darker themes to go with the sexier Goddesses the Gods like in most mythologies are lazy or very hard working that they have very little time for interaction with humans
while celtic mythology is better than norse, mesopotamian mythology is even better
Damnit Robyn why did you hire SAO fans?! Now we can’t have fun anymore.
*k e k*
I’m so glad you mention Australian distribution. It makes me feel like a member of this Western anime fan family despite living far away from the US. It can be hard to watch anime legally in Australia because some anime gets licenced by the US but not Australia (ahem, Sasameki Koto), so hearing an anime TH-camr who isn’t Australian mention Animelab makes me so happy.
Mamunga is just a badass version of papyrus
To be fair that word did looked intimidating as hell to pronounce
I was going to say that this was a common Norse name for RPGs in general to use.
ALOT of great references
You forgot ah my goddess? They used yggdrasil for their OS power
He is a king he thinks for his people
DevilHunter1994 Or maybe he is seeking true godhood, maybe he wants to be worshiped as well as feared.
He indirectly stated he cared starting with saying it would hypocritical for him care then stateing at the end he was a hypocrite
I didn't know Grim from Billy and Mandy play fantasy games?
What are you talking about? Grim clearly shows his love for games in his popular quote "Go play on the highway", The highway in this case referring to the deep-dive system launcher known as the HIGH-way launcher. Did you even read the lore-scripts found in the Billy and Mandy flash game?
Anyone else besides me thinks it should be "Lord Eyez All Gone" lol
Momonga/Ains is not a lich, he is an Overlord, that's his class
Also, rewriting Albedo's setting is like a regular day in a programmer's life, you change a single line and now the program behaves in a totally unexpected and annoying way
He is an Elder Lich though, he's got multiple classes, and Elder Lich is one of them. He's also a Skeleton Mage, Necromancer and Ruler of Death. Elder Lich, Skeleton Mage, and Overlord are race classes, while Necromancer and Ruler of Death are job classes.
I love those "insanimania" bits at the end of your reviews. I and my daughter laugh our butts off at them! Keep it up!
Yggdrasil...is actually an old word. Like, Norse Mythology old. Doesn't help with its pronunciation though. ^_^
No Mingyu well Germans and the true Viking descendants won't have much of an issue pronouncing it...
Old words coming back into style!
Well they say it in the marvel movies animations and in the show it self in the first episode and many times has well. So you should get a nice prounciation.
Overlord is a great and amazing anime and review.
Keep dissing Sword Art Online.
3 Things I loved about this video:
1. The Sword Art Online disses *throws penny in the jar*
2. The fact that you point out momonga's strategic and pragmatic moves and characterization as the centerpiece before the *also amazing* animations and fight choreography/brutality
3. You have a great voice! it is really soothing to hear while I visit the land of anime nostalgia.
Great review!
How many must I comment this about overlord
Momonga or ainz was not transported into Yggdrasil but rather his avatar and all his npcs were transported to a fantasy world which was influenced by players who were transported into that worlds history every couple of centuries
Lastly it was also not only stated in the LN but also in the anime that Albedo was not the strongest npc but rather Shalltear for that vampire is the most balanced and optimized npc for combat (remember when Ainz questioned albedo that could she defeat Shalltear and was only replied by albedo's silence )
The Garden of E sim 117 Sounds like you read the books because none of this was mentioned in the anime. I've only seen the anime.
Anime America yes and no it is true that the anime did not said it outright but it was hinted several times that the world ainz were transported were not Yggdrasil like when ainz was fighting those sunlit scripture and when he was fighting clementine and he said that her weapon that there were no weapons like those in Yggdrasil
Finally when albedo and ainz was in the treasury when ainz asked if albed that can she defeat shalltear albedo could not answer meaning that she can't
Anyway thanks for replying love the videos hope you make more
It might come off like. I am obsessed about overlord but one would be if there was a situation were you were stuck in a place with no net for three weeks with only overlord blu ray to keep you entertained
The Garden of E sim 117 Shalltear is not the stronger
I love your guys' content
yeah that's what i meant and i see
6:54 too bad he is missing the one bone that counts
andrew gifford bow~chicka~bow~bow
andrew gifford too funny that humans are the only apes and one of the few mammals that don't have a bone in their boner...
I LOVE YOUR GIFs or whatever the editing past 11:00 are called :3 thank you for making me smile!!!!! May our most stupendous and glorious Ainz Ooal Gown look upon this vid with fervency!!!
I don't know if she would be excited to see Enri The Bloody Goblin Queen General. LOL
ooo I'm early..hi
the Dissing Sword Art Online Money Jar..heheheh XD
by new years 2017/2018 there will be about 1million usd in that jar lol (and that's putting $0.01 in it every time).
The Theory Channel We gun fill that jar gud.
I mean, to be fair... SAO does deserve all the dissing. :3
I think that's reference to Big Lebowski jar from Nostalgia Critic and his review of Ghost Rider. Check it out it's hilarious.
It does deserve the dissing but I would like to have a jar to drop a coin in. That way if I do it the other people in the room have to shut up and let me diss that stupid anime. Love Overlord much better
Man I loved the Adam's Family reference, I almost claped my fingers
DID THEY JUST PULL A CINEMA SINS XD
"Apparently they make a lot of new names in the future."
The name Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology, is several times older than this country. Just saying.
i like what you did with the ending more than the actual video. thumbs UP!!! specially that snickers
*puts ALOT money in diss SAO jar* this is 100% better than SAO definitely
100% implies that it's only twice as good, Overlord and Skull Daddy-sama are way better than Kirito-SAMA-SENPAi-KUN
Why fund SAO when you can fund for OVERLORD?
*does not have the budget to fill the jar for every time he has and will diss SAO*
I created a black hole by stuffing all the diss SAO coins I had to give into that little jar.
there isn't enough jars for the diss I have for Sao
Yggdrasil (Ig-Drah-Sil) Was the tree that held the nine worlds in Norse mythology with Ratatoskr scurrying among the branches, an unnamed eagle with Veðrfölnir sitting between it's eyes, and the serpent Níðhöggr living at the bottom. (There are 3 more beings living among the tree but this comment would be to long-winded) I hope this helps!
OMG Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island and the witches ghost, Nightmare before Christmas, AND Hocus Pocus during the end scenes?!?! YEEESSSS!!! Love you guys so much!!!❤️❤️
And the grim adventures of billy and mandy🤣
Ok so the meme/abridging at the end of the video was legit amazing. That alone earned a sub haha gg well played
Eric Langlois didn't the anime or ln say that shaltear was the strongest floor guardian offense wise?
Or is that more along the lines of perfect shield versus perfect spear?
wasn't momonga level 95 as non human races had a level handicap of 5?
9:00 I know Mangacontent and Novelcontent =/= animecontent, but when you Interested Spoiler:
Hundreds of Years before Momonga come in the new World, other Players also come in.
SPOILERS
This is leading her to plan to kill any other Supreme Beings she can find, and perhaps even eliminate the other NPCs as well, so she can have her beloved Momonga all for herself. In the scene in her bedroom, where he hung the banner of Momonga in place of the new Ainz Ool Gown banner, she clearly shows she's dissatisfied with his change of name and interest in anyone else except herself. Having a yandere in love with you is never a good thing...
Alexandre Martins then y do I have a boner rn? :P
she doesnt plan to kill the supreme beings its just that she doesnt care about the guild. since no one besides Momonga stayed behind with the npcs.
also when someone asked the definition of ビッチ on r/learnjapanese a native speaker said the correct translation would be as bitch more then slut.
however it refers more to a sexually active woman then someone being mean.
Alexandre Martins wasnt that all debunked lol
A great review for a great anime. Loved the crack vine at the end, to! Keep up the great work, AA!
I loved Anime America and i hope you guys come back, but please do a bit more of research about the subject next time
Not even research, just paying attention to what happens.
Also Momonga couldnt try anything with Albedo and/or Shaltear even if he wanted to, given his skeletal nature meaning he's lacking something rather important
Your edits give me new life after I die from laughter
This is the Video video of yours i have ever watched and solid review for sure... but i did not expect to be laughing at the end with the "AMV Hell" Like Comedy, might just have to watch more reviews and see if both Trends are consistent.
I highly recommend reading the light novels! Sadly official ones are only up to the 4th or 5th volume, but fan translations have already finished the new 12th volume and already ready for the 13th! The translators do a very good job and are dedicated to do a good job...besides 1 intermission from the 12th....
Jon Pino well, he did most of the translations. One joke should be fine.
Oh hell yeah. Probably my favorite anime, or tied with maybe one other. I await season two.
All hail LORD AINZ
Nice Review, thought it was over, then you pulled in all those mashups and I nearly died laughing! XD
just stumbled upon this video and i gotta say its really fun and well done. i really liked the clips :D
All the anime cracks make perfect sense, though the thriller one was kinda a repeat.
about shalltear. (spoiler)
i diddent think that she was converted into a "raidboss"
the person who used the world item to "control" her, was knocked out mortally wounded. and thus unable to give any commands to her.
she was thereby left with the most basic of "mind controlled - orders"
Wait till someone challenges her and fight them with all her might.
which was why some of the guys in the party she attacked tried to kill her while she was "standing still" only to be instantly slaughtered.
the party quickly fled with no solution to handle her at all.
so not really a raid boss situation as much as a spell with no vocal after command given due to knocked out caster.
if the caster had not been knocked out - they would have gained shalltear as a permanent completely loyal ally. and that would have been serious bad news for momonga
Killaim the holder of the wci eventually died. Also it’s not “basic of mind control”. When the spell failed and partially took effect without any orders, what kick in was her basic floor guardian functions.
Rip I will be dead when this game comes out...
But luck next life :D
UltimateRayquaza idk if your currently a teen we have a good chance of living into the realstic looking VR
Also ACKCHUALLY:
Ainz can still pull up menus in the guild and in special places he uses pop-ups (LN+ maybe manga), hinting that it still might be a game world or at least a dimension fused with it.
RandominityFTW
As for being confused about being trapped in the game,
I saw a reactor who adamantly refused to be corrected on the same misunderstanding, saying it didn’t matter because it might as well be the game.
Also it would have to be a complete homebrew, with mana instead of spellslots, no NAT1/20, and complete imbalanced classes(which would most likely not happen in a campaign that is made by japanese gamers)
If you want to go that way, it's more realistic that his brain fried because the server shutting down had a malfunction, and he is trapped in delusions.
Ruok 90
This is just how i feel,
Everyone is unbalanced because the guild payed to win, they made heavy use of the real world money shop and exploited game breaking flaws to become nigh unstoppable,
The new world feels like a dandd world that has been “polluted” by mmo aspects, there was wild magic people used earlier but was replaced by the tier magic that came from the game,
Also i have no idea what you are trying to say in your first question, please tell me
Wild magic was never replaced, as it still exists there, it's just rare because you need to have the draconic bloodline to use it. D&D magic is Tier magic by design i think?
I meant that if you think they(he) started to run a D&D campaign, it makes no sense that his character is self aware.
Almost all RPG's are based on D&D systems, so it's no wonder that you see similarities, but for me essential D&D characteristics are missing or substituted by modern(computerized) variants, that's why I don't believe in this theory.
yggdrasil is acctually the name of the world-tree in norse mythology-.-
Lok'tar! To a former WoW player!
Also, the scene with Momoja (or however it is spelled) squeezing Camilla on your list for one of the worst ways to die?
Lok’tar ogar!
I really enjoy this review!!! XD
When will you review season 2 & 3?
good review. I love it also. if you made a video that was pure remixes that you put in here, it'd end up on most of my youtube playlists.
If I was overlords universe I would like to beone of his generals that would love to be a lycanthrope Beast master.
Because remember in that Universe to be one of his followers to have to be a beast like Warrior or creature you can't be pure human
Also those rules are just for the players who join the guild. The NPCs they make can be anything.
The House Always Wins npcs follow that rule too.
Naxiro Dark The novel divides the races up as humanoid, demi-human, and heteromorph. Lycanthropic creatures I believe fall into the heteromorths.
Naxiro Dark, one of the Pleiades is a werewolf if I remember correctly, so beastmen shouldn't be a problem.
Aureole is human
Yggdrasil... the norse world tree.... future words... Well someone did not pay attention in history class/religion.
Mr. Crab well the norse traditions and religions are not usually taught
History classes in Florida don't cover Norse Mythology. That's a minor you can study in college, but not in High Schook.
I'm just surprised considering it's been extensively referenced in other anime and Japanese video games. (trying to remember if Valkyrie Profile referenced it, but I know the recent Kobayashi's Maid Dragon definitely did).
You won't find many schools in America that teach Norse mythology in history class.
6:38 - 7:14 she wants to get BONED
😎Nice
She got really close in early Season 3. Great shot from Ainz's POV of Albedo flying straight at him too.
Soooo...
TH-cam clip about Overlord: Check!
Momonga being awesome: Check!
Adams family reference: Check!
Alrighty then, consider me subscribed!
Now I just have to go through all previous content you guys made!
Hello Robyn! The Overlord review was outsight. I too am a fan of the anime. Keep up the great work and God bless.
Please review Supernatural the anime based off the live action series
Overlord is like SAO, but not generic and way better.
Ozone Strike
Overlord is like SAO, but good, so nothing at all like SAO.
Put $ in the Diss Jar
basic that is not the game turned reall, is another totally diferente world, not conect to the game, however, the protagonist is not the first player to go to that world, and in the past the other player kind that chance that world to look like the game, the teach magic, they creat monster and itens, so is basic some type of cultural contamination, and they are now all dead, but are remember as gods and demons
Yeah, this was the biggest thing I saw in the review that isn't right and it is such a huge part of the story or at least as you said it greatly affected most of the counties in that new world.
Spoiler *they're not all dead dead at least two of the six "heros" are still alive*
the novel says that before Ainz whe have the 6 gods, the 8 kings of greed and 2 or 3 legendary heroes that are players, but they are all dead, the 5 of the 6 gods die from old age, and the last was killed for the 8 kings of greed, 7 of the 8 kings of greed kill each other, and the last was killed for the dragonlords, them you have the 2 or 3 members of the legendary heroes, and they also killed each other, yes will still have legendary heroes alive, but not the ones that are players.
Love the video but some mistakes were made
1. Yggdrasil is not new Yggdrasil (Ig-Drah-Sil) is the world tree that connects the 9 realms of Norse Mythology
2. Ainz is an Overlord, not an Elder Licht
3. Ainz wasn't traped in Yggdrasil he and Nazeric was transported to another world
4. Shaltear was Brainwashed by a World Item and World Items beat EVERYTHING
5. Ainz does have emotions but they git suppressed by his undead traits
Super late but JUST finished all 3 seasons in 2019. I was so sure the VA was Keith David for the "gaming voice." Chris does a good job.
a bit of a miss in spoiler territory - not sure why not mentioned
the whole biggest issue with mamonga : is his search for his friends.
and the horrible thing about his NPCs, that are written by fanboys of Horror and monsters.
These npcs are beyond monsters, and they run on their story and lore they were written in. causing HORRIBLE things to happen that momonga never really thinks about.
like how they misunderstand a simple little thing they overheard him saying out loud to himself
(but in noway a order)
and they just took that for "Lets conquere the world for lord momonga" and his biggest issues is him trying to handle his npcs - constantly fearing they will not support him if he doesent act like a perfect overlord, not knowing they would obay ANY order or statement he says. even if he were to change his methods.
Also i Absolutely love how the show manages to convey so much emotion from a still skull - there are so many amazing heartfelt scenes in this where he expresses his emotions (or tries too)
a Lich skull made me cry because of this!. its a skull! the acting and story is amazing!
the only thing keeping albedo from going full out horrific monster is "she is madly in love with momonga" she is the most detailed of all of the npcs with super detailed horror, violence, psychotic, crazed mastermind, torturer ever written. and completely "to the point of madness" loyal.
but most of her energy is at getting his love with that simple little line he added. completely throwing her character out of the loop.
but he has to stop her from just instantly slaying humans "just because they are humans" so all her inner demons and lore written. will run their course unless momonga changes it.
its funny how Nothing in the world can challenge him, and the only thing even remotely dangerous to him is his npc minions.
and his misunderstanding of how they function now that they are selfaware and alive.
As a Nordic citizen im getting tired of the massive reuse of Norse mythos especially in more cliche and even more so in thier stereotypes. *sigh*
Goddammit Japan!
Daniel Vedberg Sekulic i dont hear people complaining of us using roman, greek, egyptian mythology in all our fantasy. 😂
I’d be happy if someone from outside our country would use Indonesian Mythology or at least, it’s urban legends.
I miss Billy and Mandy
3:04 - ...heck your jar, she's right.
*If you don't want to read a massive rant written by an Overlord loving fangirl that (barely) compares the two, but (mostly) hypes Overlord up, do not read further.*
SAO had a good premise that played into the structure of a typical RPG; grow stronger in your own way until you're strong enough to reach and beat your goal. But then the whole power fantasy, romance drama came in and absolutely whitewashed it.
It became your typical, run of the mill harem with an oblivious, inexplicably charismatic protagonist who is also very clearly a blatant gary-stu self insert in a power fantasy.

Now, I'm not going to try and say that Overlord *isn't* a power fantasy to some degree.

Very clearly, you will like one over the other or the same amount depending on your tastes.
I love the angel girl that's in love with Momonga she's hot af omg.
venus Draws she’s a demon
Don't care still hot
venus you can look up rule34 of her Albedo
Paper Cat technically, she was created to have an angel as her race. But tabula smaragdina decided to mix her with a demon of dreams. So, technically, she is an angel as her base.
Albedo's younger sister Rubedo is the strongest NPC not her. Spoiler.
Ramiru Hansamu Its only in the light novel, which I strongly recommend a read if you're a fan. Gargatua is the strongest floor guardian without any world items.
Moreal I wonder when will the novel reveal the beings that dwells in the 8th floor of nazarick.
MAN OF CULTURE
Volume 4, the lizardmen arc, is when we're first introduced to Victim, guardian of the 8th floor. Unlike the rest of the lvl.100 floor guardians, Victim is a tiny fetus-like lvl.35 angel that unleashes status effects via suicide bombing Intruders & opponents. In his own crazy Enochian (angel-speak) words, "I was born to die!"
On a related note, the same volume/ story arc also first shows us Gargantua, the massive golem that sleeps at the bottom of a lake on the 4th floor.
Thank you so much for making this . love Overlord and cant wait for season 2 Although i have already ordered the light nov 6. cant wait .
