Cairo is super dangerous for Whites, I've been there visiting a local friend 10yrs ago. Everything behind the pyramids is open season for getting robbed, especially carrying camera equipment for several K the rumor will spread like wildfire in the slums.

i was in egypt when i was like 9yo, as me and my brother got off the boat on the nile river we were surrounded by kids and teenagers begging for money, literally surrounded by 20-30 of them pushing and touching us lol. The beggar culture is insane over there

As an Egyptian I can confidently say they only went to the touristy parts of town as well as the lower income areas. There's much better areas where you can get top tier coffees (way better than starbucks etc) for like $2-3 and a steak dinner from a good restaurant for like $8.
Rookie mistake was not to haggle and pulling out wads of cash in public, however if you're feeling generous since those guys working at the tourism spots dont make much you can let it slide since it's not much respective to your local currency.
The people are incredibly friendly in Egypt and its safe for the most part (well depends on the area) however in general it is a God fearing country so less chaotic than modern day America. Its mostly unorganized in Egypt and the driving culture would be a shock to anyone coming from a western country, but its all normalized for the Egyptians. People tend to be more vocal, its a loud culture.
Tourist areas and the restaurants that the tour guides take you too are dominated by scammy individuals, but if you get outside of that bubble, the people are normal just living their lives.
Highly recommend checking out the North Coast, Dahab, Gouna, Sheikh Zayed, October 6, 5th Settlement, Maadi for perspective.
