I feel like the "have a magical day" myth is almost dangerous. I'd hate to have an innocent, well meaning cast member get in trouble because a guest watched a dumb youtube video.
Former cast member myself (5 years as photopass) and great info. Just a few things... 10. "Have a magical day..." There are times that it can mean to buzz off, but not always. It very much depends on the context and if you've been a pain in that cast member's side. I would say it's about 70/30% split between being genuinely wished, and "you're a jerk, I hope you fall into a hole" 9. I've also been in the park before before opening and long after closing when the music has been turned off. It's a combination of really neat and also a bit creepy. And you can tune out the music- only way I survived hearing "Turkey in the Straw" in Toontown over and over and over... :-) 7. I'm pretty sure it's a myth about security enforcing cast members doing their jobs and being where they are supposed to be. They're way to busy watching for problems with guests. 6. The Utilidors are at Magic Kingdom only (except for a much smaller version at Epcot) and you can see them if you take the Keys to the Kingdom tour. They are air conditioned, and have air fresheners. And yes, the break rooms are boring looking, and I used the hair salon as a guy. 5. SALSA sales sadly are a thing of the past. They did them when I worked there in 2006-2011 and were huge parking lot sales over at Epcot. They were awesome to shop at, but sadly they quit doing them a while back. 4. I love all the hysterical stories about cast member parties. So many funny, stupid and utterly ridiculous stories like that. Cast aren't partying like crazy backstage or as soon as they get off work. They're working, or going home because they are tired. Not any different among cast as it is anywhere else. My cast friends were all boring family people. 2. I laugh every time I hear the "no matching first names" story because it's so wrong. We had several days where a number of us had duplicate names working at the same time. And I actually knew 2 real Chris's who were from Orlando. 1. I've heard those terms, but almost all of them are ones that come from Disney fans who think they know a ton and really don't know what they are talking about. Code V or protein spill we used out in the park, but not the others. Great video. Loved you correcting some of the silly myths out there.
We met a Chris from Orlando last time we went to Disney World, and my dad got excited because he's also named Chris and he asked if it was short for Christina, and then she had to tell him that's not actually her name. It turned out, she was from our city though!
Tell that to the cast members when the world suddenly becomes eerily silent, almost seeming to stop, then the buses roll up. From them a hoard spills forth, running, waving flags, chanting. Without warning it has arrived, the Brazilian tour group! Security watches on, powerless against the hoard that they can only monitor from afar for fear of being torn limb from limb. Lines are cut, cast instructions go unheard, drowned out by the constant shouts of those chants. Regular guests can only stand there in confusion and mild terror. Dark days are at Disney when those groups show up.
Also about the Princess age thing: I had a friend who was friends with a. princess (like in shows and parades) until she was 32 and the only reason she stopped was not because of her looks (she looked young, maintained well and was a very prominent friend of a princess until the very end), but I think it’s because they didn’t want to pay her that much. She had to be making like double what a newer character performer was making and we all know Disney loves to save a buck.
"I'm appalled that they just had a photo of backstage." YES! I'm not alone. Never worked for Disney, never could but omg I can't stand when I see that stuff posted. Like, come on have some respect for Disney and other people who want to keep the illusion for themselves, or for their KIDS.
Olivia Simone Lol, there are some, like me, who love Disney in different ways. I love watching videos on the history and mechanics of Disney and Disney Parks. Like the fact that Epcot was originally Walt’s dream of a Utopian city, or how the Haunted Mansion’s omnimover set a new precedent for how to move more guests in and out of rides. We are “Disney nerds”, so this one tiny photo of the tunnels might seem like it ruins some people’s magic (and in this type of video it does), but there’s a huge crowd of people for whom it makes Disney more magical! 💕✨
Alexis Rose There’s no need to be rude or judgmental. Some people have a strong sense of pride and loyalty to their employers, others have a love for something that brings them nostalgia and happiness. Some people don’t want to see what’s behind the curtain and that’s ok. As someone who LOVES the behind-the-scenes, what makes me love it is how perfect it’s presented on the outside.
Oh this hurts! I love the theory about have a magical day and secret words. It really irritates me because like you said other than code v we don't use any of these! I wish they checked their sources and did a fact check! Raging parties are not a thing in any circle I know either! In my department alone there is like 5 of us with the same name and spelling! Also if we forget a name tag; we have a variety of names to pick from 🤣 🤷🏻♀️
Ashley Badiukiewicz the “raging” parties used to be a back-in-the-day sort of thing. Like 90s. And maybe the 2000s before they opened the commons up to everyone. The internationals had like their own sororities/fraternities and went hard. But it’s pretty tame now.
iheartmanythings even then it wasn't a big thing. I've had family that worked for Disney since before I was even born up until 4 years ago when they retired. They said it wasn't a huge thing even then.

I'm in marching band and we marched at Disney World (multiple times) and we had to go backstage and the attendant with us gave the band a strict lecture about how we had to keep our phones away backstage untill we got to our changing area!

I don’t know about the parks but, I worked in the reservation center and I can confirm that they give u a “stage name” no one there answers the phone with their real name.
So SALSA sales were real! They had the BEST prices. Wonder when they stopped them. Also: Code V’s used to be called Protein Spills as well. But besides that, that video was loaded with a lot of nonsense - especially the “Have a magical day!” Thing. I hope guests aren’t going around thinking friendly cast members are making fun of them! I honestly don’t know how a person can make a video like that while being so off base with nearly everything!

As a high school student very close to Disneyland, our marching band has been invited to perform in their parades many times. The no pics backstage rule is very strict. Our directors don’t even let us talk out our phones. Olivia you make great videos!!! I love supporting small youtubers like you!!!
You very rarely hear it but when you do hear it somebody's actually kind of mad at you and it's telling you that in the nicest way possible I'm speaking from experience both having to tell someone that and also being on the receiving end of it
I have heard of the passholes but it is more of a pASSholder, I have a friend that works at Disneyland. Disneyland is still a dry park until Galaxy Edge opens up but you are right about DCA. About the magical day, it all depends on how the cast members say it. There are some that may say it as sarcasm which does mean what it means but most of them are very friendly. Awesome video of course, and have a magical day :)

As a former cast member of magic kingdom- The tunnels are Freezing ...ice cold...and I never was able to get my costume jacket in my size . The cafeteria looks like a fast food restaurant 😂 so true. And god I miss company D. I loved grabbing The cast exclusive pins and lanyards. My pin board was poppin’. The stories from my time working there hahah- wild. Also- keep up the good work, loved the video

That whole "magical day" phrase is kinda true. You even said in your video on mean guest when that lady stormed out when she lost her hat on the ride you said to her "have a magical day". I really thought you meant that as sarcasim or something.
They did have salsa sales! They were so big and cheap. I think they were twice a year but towards the end of my employment they were phasing out. Yes cast members were tired but we went to pi quite often. I was so sad they shut down the clubs in pi.
Jami Lavin yeah cast members in the past blew off steam by going to pleasure island or partying a bit more in the past. Now it seems like if people do anything for fun, it’s just going to the parks. Which is fine and fun but even as a person who wasn’t a major partier, it was still a lot of fun to go to PI.

Today i was looking through my photos of my first time at Disney and remembered a great story: So i was with my cousin and grandma and the park was surprisingly empty. My cousin and i saw Donald Duck and ran over. We said hi and asked if we could have a picture. He nodded his head and we posed, with my grandma a few steps ahead to take the picture. Suddenly Goofy appears out of nowhere and leans his elbow on my Grandma's shoulder. She didn't see him coming and was super surprised 🙃. We all laughed and ended up getting a picture with Donald and Goofy. That had to be the highlight of my Disney experience and we still laugh about it, even though it was several years ago. That's just my Disney experience, thanks for reading 😊

The "have a magical day" one makes sense to me. I worked at chick-fil-a and as many of you know chick-fil-a employees are required to say "my pleasure." If a guest was being rude or difficult we would say "my pleasure" and to us, it meant "f*ck you."

Took my almost 2 year old son to the Disney store in our mall today and he got to open the store!! They gave him a key and everything it was amazing...he was soooo happy
The one about security guards radioing ahead is true. One time at Disneyland my dad was dumb enough to bring a knife. He thought it was a good idea to try to hide it in my mom’s sunglasses case. My mom had no idea and when we got to the front of the security someone got mad at her before they even found the knife. It turns out that there is a security guard dressed up like a guest who called ahead. We were all so embarrassed.
To confirm, Back when they had elecTRONica at DCA, (I was barely underage) they had alcoholic drinks with light up ice cubes. The cubes were only sold in alcoholic drinks at the time. Well my mom rinsed off her ice cubes and put them in my non alcoholic drink and a random (what looked like) guest in the park walked up to me and with a very quiet voice, explained that he was security and told me I'm not allowed to share alcoholic drinks with my mom and that we would have to be escorted somewhere to handle the situation. Until we explained that she only gave me the ice cubes, he spoke with someone over radio and confirmed I was telling the truth before letting us go. SO yes, security DOES dress up as guests and walk around and I also believe they are watching the park at all times haha.

Your videos are awesome. I'm a former international cast member - Attractions - Tomorrowland from 2002/03. Here are my comments. ->The pictures this video shows of the tunnels are a joke. lol -> We had parties basically every day. Because we all lived together, it was very easy to party + we had free entrance and transportation to Pleasure Island and all its clubs (currently Disney Springs?) I was shocked you mentioned there are no parties, did this change?! -> I worked attractions, operating the attractions and never heard of a drug test. -> Protein spill was a code for vomit in our area. I love to hear your stories! It brings back so many memories. Working for Disney is a truly unique experience.

Barbara Egan I think people use it a lot online but never in the parks to refer to guests. And if they do, they aren’t a very good cast member if they’re saying it onstage.
8:50 I spotted an undercover agent when I was at Disneyland last time in November. I went with my cousins and aunts and uncle. I spotted the thing on his ear the same thing that is showed in the video. He was walking around the haunted mansion.
When I was in high school marching band, we marched in a couple of Disney parades in Disney World! We were taken backstage to get into our uniforms and hang out. From there, we got into the parade line to march through Magic Kingdom! Unbelievably cool experience. My favorite part was seeing Snow White smoking a cigarette and Maleficant cussing up a storm, back stage xD
If you have ever seen the song along Disney world movie. I think it’s called Disneyland Fun. They start with Mickey, goofy, Minnie, and Donald opening the park and there is no music. Well, I guess they are singing because it’s a sing along, but you get the point.
"Oh, we all have ragers on the weekend". I laughed at that. Also, you should do a video debunking dumb and bottom-of-the-barrel myths about the parks. Especially the one about River Country closing because of the brain-eating amoeba. At the Disney Store you're encouraged and trained to say "Have A Magical Day!". It's just Disney language which is very important to know and understand as a cast member. It's all part of the Disney experience whether a guest walks into the parks or stores
When I was in Disney World, a nice cast member took us backstage so we could get to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for our fastpass because we were having trouble with our photos 😄 I didn’t realize how cool it was at the time!
When I was younger we went to Disney for my birthday and I had Cinderella sign my booklet. A few days later when I went to the Cinderella dinner party I hid the booklet from her under the table so that she wouldn’t sign it again. When she got there she pulled the booklet out and said “Want me to sign this?” I yelled at her and told her no because she signed it the other day. She was like: “Oh.”
The magical day thing definitely varies by person then, because I have a friend who worked at Disney and said she only ever used it when someone was being a jerk.
I used to work at a JC Penney store for 6 yrs and they would play the same songs on a loop for the entire year except for Christmas when they would play other songs. One morning we had just opened and the songs had just started to play. But all of the sudden the so g Whop There It Is starts playing. I have never seen our store manager run so fast to the back to change the song

In California Disneyland Company D was exactly what the video said it was. My sister used to work at Disneyland so Company D was all the cast exclusives but majority of the store is stuff that didn’t sell out and seasonal stuff for SUPER cheap. It’s really awesome
Hey, loved the video! Just wanted to say that over here at Disneyland we have one Company D which sounds like a mix between your Company D and Cast Connections. Our company D sells both cast merchandise although it just a corner of the building with like two or three racks of cast merchandise and old merchandise that didn’t sell, however not with merchandise from other parks like you said. Lastly, there is another building just next door that is Property Control where you can go and purchase Disney objects, like chairs and desks from hotel room even little pieces of stuff from stores or attractions,for instance I saw a Buzz Lightyear figurine that looks like it was hung on a wall or on a shelf.
Disneyland has an off site Company D with the team center and do have shopping passes for family members to come shop too! at Christmas time you can save up 95% with half price item and combined CM discount.
i’m not a disney crew cast member and have never been actually i am 12 and soon my school will have a field trip to disney land. we are going to be performing on the stage and part of this experience is that we are going to be official disney cast crew members for the day. they said that while we’re backstages can’t use our phones or else they will be taken away. people even say that you never get your phone back ever again which i find weird about disneyland but idk
Gonna date myself here but...when I was like 12 or 13 in 1985-1986 range we were in Disney World. My brother and I got stuck in the It's a Small Word ride for a VERY extended amount of time, the constant singing of the dolls ahead was driving me nuts and we got out of the little boat thing and ran out of the emergency exit nearby. To this day I can see themn damn dolls dancing above us and that song playing over and over. Side note, my great grandma grew up with Walt Disney in Kansas.
A good point to add, like on topic can’t pick what character want to be also can also be said for other positions I experienced. I initially spoke over phone interviews culinary as needed externship for Le Cordon Bleu. When got to Orlando wanted to place me as ride operator, then again spoke with them reminding them I was only looking for culinary for externship so they did end accommodating. I think much like car salesman won’t show a car cause lot needs to clear another. Just my thoughts.
Ok so I saw a video a while ago of a Disney cast member in Disneyland Paris and it talked about "White powder" and it is not about throwing someone's ashes, it is about a literal white powder which supposedly is VERY dangerous and they have to shot off the ride and call security and all that
Maybe it has changed since I was doing my CP, but I did entertainment costuming during mine. I worked for 3-4 months in the shop for the performers in the Magic Kingdom park and then 3-4 months on ELP(when it was still there). Since I was working with those costumes first-hand, I know it was true that no dress went past size 10. Like I said, this was 7 years ago, so there has hopefully been some kind of change, but it was true at least while I was there.

Raging parties are not a thing in any circle I know either! In my department alone there is like 5 of us with the same name and spelling! Also if we forget a name tag; we have a variety of names to pick from 🤣 🤷🏻♀️
Ashley Badiukiewicz the “raging” parties used to be a back-in-the-day sort of thing. Like 90s. And maybe the 2000s before they opened the commons up to everyone. The internationals had like their own sororities/fraternities and went hard. But it’s pretty tame now.
iheartmanythings even then it wasn't a big thing. I've had family that worked for Disney since before I was even born up until 4 years ago when they retired. They said it wasn't a huge thing even then.

I'm in marching band and we marched at Disney World (multiple times) and we had to go backstage and the attendant with us gave the band a strict lecture about how we had to keep our phones away backstage untill we got to our changing area!

As a high school student very close to Disneyland, our marching band has been invited to perform in their parades many times. The no pics backstage rule is very strict. Our directors don’t even let us talk out our phones. Olivia you make great videos!!! I love supporting small youtubers like you!!!

I have heard of the passholes but it is more of a pASSholder, I have a friend that works at Disneyland. Disneyland is still a dry park until Galaxy Edge opens up but you are right about DCA. About the magical day, it all depends on how the cast members say it. There are some that may say it as sarcasm which does mean what it means but most of them are very friendly. Awesome video of course, and have a magical day :)

As a former cast member of magic kingdom- The tunnels are Freezing ...ice cold...and I never was able to get my costume jacket in my size . The cafeteria looks like a fast food restaurant 😂 so true.
And god I miss company D. I loved grabbing The cast exclusive pins and lanyards. My pin board was poppin’. The stories from my time working there hahah- wild. Also- keep up the good work, loved the video

That whole "magical day" phrase is kinda true. You even said in your video on mean guest when that lady stormed out when she lost her hat on the ride you said to her "have a magical day". I really thought you meant that as sarcasim or something.
They did have salsa sales! They were so big and cheap. I think they were twice a year but towards the end of my employment they were phasing out. Yes cast members were tired but we went to pi quite often. I was so sad they shut down the clubs in pi.
Jami Lavin yeah cast members in the past blew off steam by going to pleasure island or partying a bit more in the past. Now it seems like if people do anything for fun, it’s just going to the parks. Which is fine and fun but even as a person who wasn’t a major partier, it was still a lot of fun to go to PI.

Today i was looking through my photos of my first time at Disney and remembered a great story:
So i was with my cousin and grandma and the park was surprisingly empty. My cousin and i saw Donald Duck and ran over. We said hi and asked if we could have a picture. He nodded his head and we posed, with my grandma a few steps ahead to take the picture. Suddenly Goofy appears out of nowhere and leans his elbow on my Grandma's shoulder. She didn't see him coming and was super surprised 🙃. We all laughed and ended up getting a picture with Donald and Goofy. That had to be the highlight of my Disney experience and we still laugh about it, even though it was several years ago. That's just my Disney experience, thanks for reading 😊

The "have a magical day" one makes sense to me. I worked at chick-fil-a and as many of you know chick-fil-a employees are required to say "my pleasure." If a guest was being rude or difficult we would say "my pleasure" and to us, it meant "f*ck you."

The one about security guards radioing ahead is true. One time at Disneyland my dad was dumb enough to bring a knife. He thought it was a good idea to try to hide it in my mom’s sunglasses case. My mom had no idea and when we got to the front of the security someone got mad at her before they even found the knife. It turns out that there is a security guard dressed up like a guest who called ahead. We were all so embarrassed.

To confirm, Back when they had elecTRONica at DCA, (I was barely underage) they had alcoholic drinks with light up ice cubes. The cubes were only sold in alcoholic drinks at the time. Well my mom rinsed off her ice cubes and put them in my non alcoholic drink and a random (what looked like) guest in the park walked up to me and with a very quiet voice, explained that he was security and told me I'm not allowed to share alcoholic drinks with my mom and that we would have to be escorted somewhere to handle the situation. Until we explained that she only gave me the ice cubes, he spoke with someone over radio and confirmed I was telling the truth before letting us go. SO yes, security DOES dress up as guests and walk around and I also believe they are watching the park at all times haha.

Your videos are awesome. I'm a former international cast member - Attractions - Tomorrowland from 2002/03. Here are my comments. ->The pictures this video shows of the tunnels are a joke. lol -> We had parties basically every day. Because we all lived together, it was very easy to party + we had free entrance and transportation to Pleasure Island and all its clubs (currently Disney Springs?) I was shocked you mentioned there are no parties, did this change?! -> I worked attractions, operating the attractions and never heard of a drug test. -> Protein spill was a code for vomit in our area.

Barbara Egan I think people use it a lot online but never in the parks to refer to guests. And if they do, they aren’t a very good cast member if they’re saying it onstage.
8:50 I spotted an undercover agent when I was at Disneyland last time in November. I went with my cousins and aunts and uncle. I spotted the thing on his ear the same thing that is showed in the video. He was walking around the haunted mansion.

When I was in high school marching band, we marched in a couple of Disney parades in Disney World! We were taken backstage to get into our uniforms and hang out. From there, we got into the parade line to march through Magic Kingdom! Unbelievably cool experience. My favorite part was seeing Snow White smoking a cigarette and Maleficant cussing up a storm, back stage xD

At the Disney Store you're encouraged and trained to say "Have A Magical Day!". It's just Disney language which is very important to know and understand as a cast member. It's all part of the Disney experience whether a guest walks into the parks or stores

When I was younger we went to Disney for my birthday and I had Cinderella sign my booklet. A few days later when I went to the Cinderella dinner party I hid the booklet from her under the table so that she wouldn’t sign it again. When she got there she pulled the booklet out and said “Want me to sign this?” I yelled at her and told her no because she signed it the other day. She was like: “Oh.”

The magical day thing definitely varies by person then, because I have a friend who worked at Disney and said she only ever used it when someone was being a jerk.
I used to work at a JC Penney store for 6 yrs and they would play the same songs on a loop for the entire year except for Christmas when they would play other songs. One morning we had just opened and the songs had just started to play. But all of the sudden the so g Whop There It Is starts playing. I have never seen our store manager run so fast to the back to change the song

In California Disneyland Company D was exactly what the video said it was. My sister used to work at Disneyland so Company D was all the cast exclusives but majority of the store is stuff that didn’t sell out and seasonal stuff for SUPER cheap. It’s really awesome

Hey, loved the video! Just wanted to say that over here at Disneyland we have one Company D which sounds like a mix between your Company D and Cast Connections. Our company D sells both cast merchandise although it just a corner of the building with like two or three racks of cast merchandise and old merchandise that didn’t sell, however not with merchandise from other parks like you said. Lastly, there is another building just next door that is Property Control where you can go and purchase Disney objects, like chairs and desks from hotel room even little pieces of stuff from stores or attractions,for instance I saw a Buzz Lightyear figurine that looks like it was hung on a wall or on a shelf.

Disneyland has an off site Company D with the team center and do have shopping passes for family members to come shop too! at Christmas time you can save up 95% with half price item and combined CM discount.

i’m not a disney crew cast member and have never been actually i am 12 and soon my school will have a field trip to disney land. we are going to be performing on the stage and part of this experience is that we are going to be official disney cast crew members for the day. they said that while we’re backstages can’t use our phones or else they will be taken away. people even say that you never get your phone back ever again which i find weird about disneyland but idk
Gonna date myself here but...when I was like 12 or 13 in 1985-1986 range we were in Disney World. My brother and I got stuck in the It's a Small Word ride for a VERY extended amount of time, the constant singing of the dolls ahead was driving me nuts and we got out of the little boat thing and ran out of the emergency exit nearby. To this day I can see themn damn dolls dancing above us and that song playing over and over. Side note, my great grandma grew up with Walt Disney in Kansas.

A good point to add, like on topic can’t pick what character want to be also can also be said for other positions I experienced. I initially spoke over phone interviews culinary as needed externship for Le Cordon Bleu. When got to Orlando wanted to place me as ride operator, then again spoke with them reminding them I was only looking for culinary for externship so they did end accommodating. I think much like car salesman won’t show a car cause lot needs to clear another. Just my thoughts.

Ok so I saw a video a while ago of a Disney cast member in Disneyland Paris and it talked about "White powder" and it is not about throwing someone's ashes, it is about a literal white powder which supposedly is VERY dangerous and they have to shot off the ride and call security and all that
That may be the case as well, but people do spread ashes constantly at Disney world
Maybe it has changed since I was doing my CP, but I did entertainment costuming during mine. I worked for 3-4 months in the shop for the performers in the Magic Kingdom park and then 3-4 months on ELP(when it was still there). Since I was working with those costumes first-hand, I know it was true that no dress went past size 10. Like I said, this was 7 years ago, so there has hopefully been some kind of change, but it was true at least while I was there.
