  • Back in 1995 there was a Sunday evening loaded ballast working sometimes going up the Lickey sometimes running round at the foot of the Lickey and heading back south. Before the year ended class 31s were taken off this working and replaced by pairs of 37s, so with just a couple of weeks to go 31102 and 31455 thrash over the top of the Lickey with the loaded return for Bescot the location is Blackwell summit.

That looks hard work. Excellent bit of nostalgia. 1995, seem to remember it was a long hot summer. Happy days.

Class 31 thrashing on a vacuum braked ballast train, so many memories of my spotting days back in the 80s.

Helllfire !!! I live right by here, up on the embankment to the left of the shot as they head away towards Barnt Green. 😁

31s have a reputation for being sluggish. At least they do it noisily and provide excellent entertainment.
