Dynasty is certainly one the best jazz recordings of all times. S. Getz never played better, a mix of lyricism and sadness, fantastic ! Louiss here, as always, holds the fort, pushing everyone to his limits; playing beautifully built solos. R. Thomas and Lubat are excellent too. The trio was playing together for a long time when Getz discovered them in Paris and decided to "show these men to the rest of the world" (instead of a "slow death before disinterested parisians" (Getz' words)). .Which is really an hommage, isn't it ? On the LP's nearly all the tunes are by E. Louiss with the exception of 2. Getz said to a French journalist : "Eddy Louiss is a genius". Indeed he was. As J De Francesco said , there is one and only one organ player whose style at the organ can't be imitated, and it is E. Louiss. Here we have a concert with a different version of Dum Dum (written by E. Louiss). Thanks for posting ! I wish you should have more videos of this concert. As they are very few radio recordings (AFAIK) of this group. As one French radio host said : "Ce groupe n'a duré qu'un an, mais dieu qu'il était chouette" ! " (something like " this band lasted only one year , but , By God, how great it was", sorry for the rough translation :-)).
Getz, A. Farmer, J. Griffin, etc.
Became aware of Eddie Louiss on a duet he did w/ Michael Petrucciani , Rene Thomas has always been one of those European greats - not too well known to American guitar buffs & Stan Getz _ _ well what can you say. What a great session though !
I've always loved the album "Dynasty" that featured this line-up. Being a guitarist, I bought the album because of Rene Thomas. I always felt like his lyrical tone and introspective style was under-appreciated in the world of jazz guitar (sort of like Ed Bickert.). It was great to get to see him play.
This is great, as a bonus to the music there's the visual beauty with those lights. Too bad not more TV directors had a little artistic vision when capturing live music. But we can't complain, many jazz greats have not even been really filmed (Charlie Parker and countless others) or just not often enough...
I've had the Dynasty album since I was 9, and it still is my all time favorite jazz album. ever. ever. Would any of you here know any other albums/artists to recommend me? It's been years that I've been looking for music in the same style... ... and weather report just ain't cuttin' it. ;)
Just go for "Sweet Rain", Stan's 1967 album with a young, brilliant, accoustic Chick Corea. A quartet at its peak with Stan exploring in the spirit of those psychedelic times (in a jazz context!). Has been my favourite album since buying it in '67. Chris Firmin
Certainly quite a change from the follow-up Communication '72 album recorded in November of the same year, featuring Eddy Louiss on Hammond...Sadly Louiss, Labat and Thomas couldn't get union permission to enter the US...Enter Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Airto Moreira and Tony Williams and the subsequent "Captain Marvel" album recorded in March of 72..Nobody could ever say that Getz wasn't versatile, experimental or creative!!
I'd like to know how Rene' Thomas came to hook up with SG. Word of mouth I guess. RT was great on his solo. I found one of his CD's in the small music dept of a bargain basement type store. Rene Thomas The Real Cat.

Thanks for posting ! Rene Thomas is one of my favorite jazz guitarists. His solo here just sparkles.
Achingly beautiful, the way Stan brings Rene in after Eddy's solo. Work of art.
I Love the Music, very smooth
and so very cool .
Thank You !! !! !! !!
So great. Thomas' tone is fantastic.
Thank you for posting this video...I saw René Thomas in Holland...we all mis him..r.i.p.🎸❤️🎶
This stuff seems to get lost in the Getz library, but I think it's really special stuff. Gotta love Rene Thomas, too.
wow

Le jazz se porte très bien, merci!
Grotesque.
Very cool composition, thanks for posting!

This is stunning. Loved this band for years. So happy to have found video of them!
Became aware of Eddie Louiss on a duet he did w/ Michael Petrucciani , Rene Thomas has always been one of those European greats - not too well known to American guitar buffs & Stan Getz _ _ well what can you say. What a great session though !

great music !
@Dave Lincoln hey man! Great to run into you here. What a killer track/group.
I love Ed Bickert and Rene Thomas as well...
Sweet....fine performance all around. Rare configuration instrumentally for Getz.
Thanx muchly...
QUELS ARTISTES !
By the end I could feel my shoulders totally relax. This is bliss music.
You know this was a good piece of work if SG is smiling.
Thanks for posting this wonderful video. Dynasty has always been on of my favorite albums. I didn't know This video existed. That's amazing. Beautiful
Thanks Niall. A wonderful, albeit short, Renè solo at 5:06. I hope you come across some more great Renè clips like this.

louis and young best organists ever
Wow great music great clip ..anymore?? Thanks for uploading this.

Thank you so much for posting this. Marvellous!
@SOGLIDER Thanks man, much appreciated! :) I'm listening to it as we speak! :))
Thanks man.

Paris 1971
The gibson es150 charlie christian guitar was one of the first electric guitars.RT gets a great sound out of his!
Thanks again! Sympathetically filmed - sounds goes a bit all over the place, but what the hell - wonderful!
Maravilloso.
thanks.
Obrigada.
@eklectric: Suggest Larry Young's "Unity" with Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson & Elvin Jones. Repeated listening gives huge rewards.
There's another Rene's fabulous video that I can't find in youtube anymore in which he's playing with a trio. Does someone have it?
nice

I've only just discovered this album and absolutely love it it has such atmosphere. Have you checked out Snarky Puppy? one of my current faves...
I like the guitar Rene' Thomas is playing. I wonder where it is.
Gibson ES 150
There is nothing more French than the half-diminished chord.
How so? I 'm a drummer who does'nt read music but I like music theory.
I'd like to know how Rene' Thomas came to hook up with SG. Word of mouth I guess. RT was great on his solo. I found one of his CD's in the small music dept of a bargain basement type store. Rene Thomas The Real Cat.

Meraviglia!!!
Would someone who speaks French kindly post the meaning of the title (Dum! Dum!) in English. Thx in advance.
It qualifies a rifle bullet, whose casing is sheared in the shape of a cross, so as to crash into the objective with a large tear. Dum-dum bullet.

What was that quote Getz made at 2:35? It's driving me nuts.
+no 1s here Dark Eyes (traditional Russian)?
+SOGLIDER Maybe, I'm hearing the words "dancing, romancing" etc. I'm thinking Cole Porter.
It is from "Close Your Eyes" jazz standard by Bernice Petkere (1933)
:O
Bernard Lubat souvent critiqué mais jamais INEGALE!!!!!
what year was this ? 63?
1971

@@karlkinono Don't think so. Guys were'nt wearing hair like that in the 40's.
